昔、硝子瓶工場に勤めていたこともあり、硝子製品作りには興味がある。灼熱のるつぼから様々な色の硝子が生まれ、長く引き伸ばされ硝子棒に。それが再び熱せられ、見るも涼しげで美しいとんぼ玉や可愛らしいマスコットなどになっていく工程。見ていて、チャンスがあれば是非体験したいと思った。

I love watching glass making! Every time I go on holiday to Exmoor in the West Country, UK, I always visit a little town called Torrington, and the glass making factory there, Dartington Glass. Quite apart from the fact you can get some lovely glass objects from their factory shop, I love just standing and watching the teams of glass blowers make various objects. If it wasn't for the heat and the fact I have to stand all the time ( my leg joints seize up if kept in one position too long) I'd spend all day there just watching, going back and forth along the observation galleries!
