It is actually the most interesting plane in Delta's fleet history. They had their first run with the 747 buying five and launching in 1970, getting rid of them by 1977 because they were "too big" for their network. Meanwhile their competitors kept flying them. Then in 2008 with the Northwest merger, they got 26 more of them, split between cargo and passenger. Yet Delta again got tired of them and thought they were too big, as the 777 carried nearly as many passengers on two engines. So after just 9 years they retired all of them again, not wanting the operating costs. Of the US airlines, Delta had the 747s for less time than the other majors overall and really never liked them all that much.
To think I saw that plane in 1969 when I was young. It still looks amazing. The much later designed A-380 has nothing on this plane. They had decades to build on the 747.
0:24 once you hear that sound you know you have to bow... *LONG LIFE THE QUEEN!* Great work, I felt my skin like it were nails of ice. We will stop seeing these beauty beasts very soon.
Very cool! I used to live 5 mins from that airport and it's pretty rare to get a 747 taking off from there. I still remembered when the Concorde came in for the last time. Great video!!
Newer 747s have nearly all jet noise both bypass and core exhaust. Older 747s along with other older planes like the DC-10 had more buzzsaw noise as the fan rotated faster on those planes than today because many modern day jet engines operate the fan on a separate low pressure compressor driven turbine which makes it rotate slower than fans that were linked to a single compressor rather than the multistage compressors found in modern engines.
Me, too. Unfortunately, both Delta and United are retiring all their 747's one-by-one right now. In fact, Delta just recently retired a 747-400 that will be parked permanently at the Delta Air Museum in Atlanta. Go check it out when you have the chance. Lufthansa is currently operating the new 747-800....a gorgeous aircraft. I wish carriers would order more of these. However, airlines around the world are slowly getting rid of nearly all their four-engine aircraft in favor of the two-engine counterparts. So sad.....I've seen the birth and demise of the 707's, DC-8's, DC-10's, L-1011's, MD-11's, 727's, DC-9's and now.....MD-80's, and the fabled 747. Just sad.
sandiegotrojandawg It truly is sad. We're doing our best to document the 100% real sound of these birds, but we probably won't get the chance to film 707s, DC-8s, L-1011s, etc...
Love these Queens. The A380 will never reach the status of the 747. I lived in Korea from 1990-1994 and flew Northwest's new (then) 747-400's across the Pacific many many times. Wonderful aircraft. It's size and power never ceased to amaze me. Hate that they are in their "sunset" years.
Yeah, as another Delta frequent flier, I'd love to see Delta order the 747-8, but I doubt it's going to happen. They've got enough A350s and A330s on order to cover their wide-body needs for quite a while when combined with their existing 777s, A330s, and 767s. Delta One Suites upstairs on a 747-8 sure would be awesome, though. The upstairs seats on the 744 were my favorite seats in all of Delta's fleet.
Thank you very much!! Any 747 is extremely rare at Ft. Lauderdale, since Miami is the main airport for heavies in South Florida. If a 747 comes to Lauderdale, swarms of spotters come out to see it! This Delta charter made the rare occurrence even more special!
I always visit Florida and Fort Lauderdale each year, and usually we stay at a hotel near the beach and the harbour. Its nice to see all the planes takeoff over the ocean. My favourites are the Boeing 757-300s, 767s, and especially the MD-80s that always leaves a smoke trail behind, I also have memories of Thomas Cook A330 and the loud Fedex Dc-10s. But I havent seen a 747 yet takeoff from Fort Lauderdale. I can only imagine what it would look like. And during afternoon I also see the 777s A330s and A380s descending into Miami.
Headphones, speakers, whatever you prefer! As long as you don't adjust the volume during the video you'll still experience our authentic and non-leveled sound! Thanks for watching and commenting! :D
Mark you should check out all the major airlines world wide before making stupid statements. They are buying far more Airbuses than Boeing. What a tool you are
Awesome catch. As many times as I've gone to FLL to watch planes I've never seen a 747, since they mostly land at MIA. How did you know it would land there?
Saturday 27 June "17 at 4 PM I was traveling to FLL south on US1 at the big Mercedes dealer when a blast of shiny white passed almost in front of me I tried to grab my binocs and steer straight, it was either a DC8 or707 painted with either a NASA or NOAA logo on the fusilage.I pulled off and punched up Flightradar24 on my I phone and it indicated itwas in fact a DC8 from NASA Rarely see any 4 engine planes @FLL.When watching Norwegian Air landing in early eves the 787 doesn't look at all like a large aircraft
Amazing sound, that's the way it suppose to sound with strong bass and natural. I see so many videos on you tube in which the video quality is high, but the sound of the engines is pathetic and not realistic like it is on your video!
Thank you for the kind words!! Nobody else has anything like our TrueSound™ technology! (it's not actually trademarked but we can pretend :D) Hope you check out some of our other videos!
Sadly, they are being retired. That's what made this catch even more special! FLL is not a huge airport, so seeing a massive 747 is a truly rare occurrence!
Disappointing that Delta and United are retiring their 747 fleets. There should be some economic measures to keep them flying such as more fuel efficient engines, or something. Where is the gratitude for them saving Boeing after their 2707 debacle.?
Delta and United's 747-400s were at the end of their service life. Delta had the first 747-400s off the line (inherited from Northwest,) nearing 30 years old now. As much as I loved flying on them, there wasn't really any viable way to keep those flying. Unfortunately, Boeing wasn't able to get 787 production slots quickly enough for Delta's needs, so Delta went with the A330 and A350 for their fleet replacement. If/when Boeing gets the NMA/MOM out the door, I expect Delta will be ordering them for 757/767 replacement.
B747-8 is EXTREMELY expensive to purchase, US carriers preferred to use twin Widebody aircrafts which are still more profitable than the 747-8i and the A380. Take offs and landing fees are EXTREMELY expensive per head count as it is.

Delta's last domestic was sold out, so this was a good alternative!

It's pretty interesting how they never seemed to fit well in the fleet. Nonetheless, we're glad they kept these -400s flying for as long as they did!
Like i said, 747-400, The real queen of the skies, and it shall not be replaced, my favorite.
The 747 really cannot be replaced! Thank you for commenting!
This airplane is no longer in service with Delta. It was retired 2 years ago

Indeed!! The last Delta 747 has already retired... We have a few more years for the remaining 744's, and many more years for the new 748's.
Very cool! I used to live 5 mins from that airport and it's pretty rare to get a 747 taking off from there. I still remembered when the Concorde came in for the last time. Great video!!
Thanks!! Cool, that must have been amazing to see!
American Engineering at it's best...will always love that bird.
She's a beauty! And she'll certainly be missed.
Massive like! Absolutely stunning close up of this Queen, I rate this 11/10! Really my favourite plane, and you guys captured it so well!!!!! :D
Massive thanks!! We really appreciate it!! ^-^
The return of the delta 747
We sorely miss these birds!
@@ilikerio We should go to the museum

Nothing Like it! Flown them many times enjoyed every time. That's power!
It's sad to think these 747's will be gone in just a few short months... They'll be missed!
Amazing Video! Thank You!

Liked a lot! Really nice you got the landing and take-off. ATC was a bonus! Have a good day.
Thank you so much! Have a FANTASTIC day buddy!
Nice take off

Delta and United are the only US flagships still using 747's in passenger service. Those queens are beautiful
They truly are! Hope the airlines keep them for just a while longer.

Indeed it is sad, so sad I teared up the night before and it's not even worth going on those carriers EVER AGAIN!

The 747 is the best. As a Delta frequent flyer I hope that Delta gets with Boeing sales team to reinvest in future 747-8s.
Always the Queen! Sure would be awesome if they got 748's.

Awesome catch mate! Delta B747 is very rare here in AMS! Liked a lot! :)

You should listen to it through Bose speakers it sounds like an absolutely monstrous beast. Yes I know subwoofers are better you'll say.

What a great aircraft. My airline will have them someday.
Awesome catch mate! Liked and subscribed :)
Thank you! Subbed back!
Great video

I saw it at SFO fall of 2010. Giants chartered it for the World Series. Owner must have deep pockets!

It's funny how airbus still hasn't and never will figure out how to design something that pretty.
It's sad but true... The beauty of classic designs like these will never be replaced. Same goes for the amazing trijets.
VH-OEI my number 1 spot goes to MD-11
It’s all about the $$$. Sadly Boeing is not as fuel Efficient as the airbus. That’s why airbus is selling more than Boeing.
FabioPanucci airbus is more fuel efficient because of its design. That’s why a lot of the major airlines are going to airbus.
Mark you should check out all the major airlines world wide before making stupid statements. They are buying far more Airbuses than Boeing. What a tool you are
amazing ! its real sound !
Thank you! We do our best to offer great audio!
I just subscribed to this amazing channel😊
Thank you so much!!
It's clean and beautiful smells good
How do you know it smells good!?
That's just too good to be true! I am NOT looking forward to the retirement of the beauty...
It was unbelievable to see this beauty at little FLL! Such a shame they will be retired though.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
they ought to retire them all and scrap them all in the desert
bballtwirler
And replace them with what?
Horizon Productions SFL A350

From a financial standpoint it works... But it's still sad to see the beautiful Queens face retirement.
I was surprised to see a 747 at FLL, you would think they would plan for MIA instead since it's only 29 miles away.
Some say it's much cheaper to fly to FLL. It's always amazing to see a 747 at FLL!
B747-100s used to take off and land in FLL in the 1970s when National Airlines operated them

Thank you!

+Horizon Productions SFL Awesome thanks. Can you actually notify me in the future when the next 747 lands there if possible?
Do you have Facebook? I can invite you into the aviation news group.
No sorry bro lol. This is the best way to reach me through here xD.

Oh yes, the elusive NASA DC-8 will be featured in our next video! The 787 is quite a beauty although it isn't too large.
Why was it there?

Gone but not forgotten. Thanks for watching and reliving history with us!
Sad really cause I do fly with delta now operates 777 s which ok but I m still sad sad , which I m now heading to BA which still operates 747s
It's sad to see the Queen disappear...
Is this USAF charter flight? Do you know this Delta B747-400 destinations from Fort Lauderdale?
This was a charter flight! It is extremely rare to see a 747 at Fort Lauderdale!
WOW
This was something special to see at FLL! Thanks for watching and commenting!
pretty sure this is one of the biggest planes
PYROTIC PYRO 20 second biggest passenger plane I think. The a380 in my opinion is the best. It is the world's biggest passenger plane
Amazing sound, that's the way it suppose to sound with strong bass and natural. I see so many videos on you tube in which the video quality is high, but the sound of the engines is pathetic and not realistic like it is on your video!

Where was the 747 going since it was a military charter?
We put a lot of effort into making detailed video descriptions. You'll find the answer in the description! ;D
Oops!, I found it! I didn't see it since it was all the way at the bottom; Thanks! Awesome video, btw!
You're welcome! Don't worry, it happens a lot. Thanks for the kind words!
Anytime, pal! It's a pleasure! You too!
I thought the B-747s were being phased out of the airlines...
Sadly, they are being retired. That's what made this catch even more special! FLL is not a huge airport, so seeing a massive 747 is a truly rare occurrence!
2 more years
Why was dynamic airways there
Probably parked temporarily between flights.
Was she in for a maintenance or was this passenger service?
This was a military charter! Sorry, forgot to put that in the description. Very rare to see a 747 here at FLL.
Nice!!
Ikr they,re rare
Disappointing that Delta and United are retiring their 747 fleets. There should be some economic measures to keep them flying such as more fuel efficient engines, or something. Where is the gratitude for them saving Boeing after their 2707 debacle.?
A lot of airlines refuse to purchase the new 747-8. It's a shame.
Delta and United's 747-400s were at the end of their service life. Delta had the first 747-400s off the line (inherited from Northwest,) nearing 30 years old now. As much as I loved flying on them, there wasn't really any viable way to keep those flying.

I want a stronger commitment of USA-based airlines to Boeing jets and to the Boeing 747-8 in particular. That would be more coherent.
Most of them have mixed fleets now. Southwest is one of the few all-Boeing airlines.
RIP 😔
Delta has dropped from 16 to 9 Whales remaining. The rest will phase out in 2017 when the 350's begin arriving.
9 *Queens* actually, but cool! ("Whale" is the A380's nickname) So sad to see them go.
Um, to those of us that work on them at Delta, they are whales. This whale, 6305, was the first to receive the Delta paint.
Oh, never knew that! Enthusiasts refer to A380s as Whales, cool how everyone uses different nicknames. Thanks for the info too!
Horizon, The 747 was known as the whale long before people started calling the A380 that. The A380 does resemble a deformed whale, though.
Neither the 787, A350, and 777 will level up like the 747 has done in 50 years
Aviation will never be the same!
b747-400 is outdated now , they should get the new B747-8
It's a shame none of the American carriers purchased the 748.
B 747 did it time , glory days are gone . twin engines airplanes are more popular now
B747-8 is EXTREMELY expensive to purchase, US carriers preferred to use twin Widebody aircrafts which are still more profitable than the 747-8i and the A380. Take offs and landing fees are EXTREMELY expensive per head count as it is.
cargo plane ?
Delta Air Lines is a passenger airline.
isnt it 747-500???
Good one!
The 747 will truly be missed! What was it in Ft. Lauderdale for?
Definitely! This was a charter, as described in the video description.
It was there as a temporary replacement for a 757 that broke down on a ATL - FLL route. It then got re-routed to ATL - Tokyo before retiring.
I video bombed twice 😂
Haha!
People disliked this lmao
Sadly, people always love to dislike videos.
I was hoping the pilot would st. maarten the cars on I-95. lol
Haha that would have been awesome!
getting stuck on a 747 for 10 hours SUCKS!
Why?
744's still in the Delta fleet? What's the destination for this flight?
Thanks for reading the video description that we put so much effort into.
