"Why didn't V get cyberpsychosis?"
Players : "This is so funny, driving a tiny car through a crowd of people. I wonder how much cyberware I need to survive against Maxtac?"

Some NPC's were immune to the car and other died
As for max

Plus V literally has a chip that is rewriting his brain so I doubt Cyberpsychosis could really take hold, or it would take hold after Johnny takes over V's body with all that chrome
There's also that!
I really like this explanation as well lol
I agree
I agree with this one more, v basically got 2 brains to share the load of the cyberware too
V is also basicly dead , Johnny takes over the body after the heist but V "soul" is still in there......V also doesn't go nearly full brog like David did and V might build up a resistance like smasher did over time
V’s cyberpsychosis manifests itself whenever the player decides to mow down a crowd of civilians and fight MaxTac.
I really like that explanation
Cant agree more
Most realistic game mechanic happens inside the the player's head - they literally succumbed to the key symptom of cyberpsychosis, the inability to see the civilians and police as human.
This is exactly the way I saw it.
Makes sense actually…the player controlling him IS the cyberpsychosis
It's actually confirmed that Johnny Silverhand sharing your head is why V doesn't go psycho. His presence ironically stabilizes V's mental state, even though it's slowly killing V.
Check the new update lol

Ripperdocs won't let V equip certain implants in 2077 if V doesn't meet the attribute requirements. It could be argued V is both a more experienced person who handles trauma better, and that they don't take on any implants they can't handle.
Mike Pondsmith also mentioned that Johnny's chip in V's head also acts as a buffer for any psychological hits V took.
David however was "Built Different" in his own eyes so he went full chrome due to A. Probably an addiction for it + B. Trying to make everyones dreams reality by bearing all the pressure...
No wonder david went cyberpsycho really.
Yeah this makes sense I think. Taking more implants slowly once you've gotten used to the ones you already have instead of just getting a new one every other week sounds better
Also, doesn't time affect that? V goes through a huge transformations of Chrome in mere weeks at most. Davie and Maine had been chromed for very long, which I assume takes its toll. It took Maine a long time to snap, which I assume would happen to V after multiple years
@@michaelcavalry8379 yeah that's always the reason I thought, like lore wise the part of V's story we play takes place over the course of weeks, while David had his for longer
@@michaelcavalry8379 V's story is a few weeks, David's story is about a year or 6 months. Also V has that chip in him/her. A big hole where the brain used to be, then it got re-written too. It's possible they died by the end of it all so cyberpsychosis is the least of their worries.
They guy who made the table top went on record to say that Johnny helps V bear the traumatic load of cybernetics. David just had a really high humanity stat but starts losing it (literally) after suffering multiple traumas so close to each other. I think it’s a beautiful metaphor for real life. Money and power can never replace safety and love.
I like this theory. It lines up when Dee keeps losing it at the thought of losing his love life, also when the big guy (forgot his name) loses his girl before maxtac arrives which makes him go completely ballistic.

@@KaneMeadowsGaming cannon. That's literally what the fuck is going on in the game. From the moment thee comes back to life he's experiencing cyberpsychosis.
I thought it was because V is really dead on the edge of being a reanimated life.
Also a reasonable explanation
V is very different case, he was the first person to sucesfully transform from 1 person to another... basically, there was a third party in his brain which was overriding V's own emotions, mood and thoughts, which is exactly what causes cyberpsychosis. Thats how i explaint it for myself
I think with the last update, V still got some but since he is adult and know when to stop, That is why. He never go overboard about “I am special, I can do this!”. Instead, He know he’s going to die and willing to do anything to survive which including try not to go nuts. Not to mentioned dude got more experience when being mercs more than David did so lore-wise, He might not need to spam Sandy that much beside in combat.
I'd like to think because V just like Adam Smasher, is a badass
the “it” factor going for em
I don't think that Adam Smasher is even human anymore, just a contained cyberpsycho
Well Adam Smasher has a much more tame version of cyberpsychpsis, a disgust for organic bodies.. so V is better than him.
The reason Adam Smasher is able to Borg out isn't because he's cool and shit. It's because the guy was a psychopath before getting blown to bits by an RPG.
Yeah, Adam Smasher is a psycho, just a different kind.
Better explanation is that it’s how David responded to those trauma and emotional stressors. He’s given very little time to cope and come to terms with the tragedies in his life which leads him to internalize them in unhealthy ways (such as excessive augmentation and obsession with being the best in NC). Comparatively, V is not only able to cope better with their circumstances but they also have a better support system through their friends and Johnny. David didn’t loose it because of cybernetics, he lost it because he lost sight of himself.
This exactly. David's story is about someone who isn't living for themselves in the slightest, but instead taking on the dreams of those around him and living for them. He never had a dream, just had hopes pinned on him and that made him lose sight of what he really wanted and who he really was and was becoming.
V literally have a best buddy exist in their heads at all time. Being there holding conversations and either support or dissect V's decisions.
V is much more resilient, being someone who's actually had time to adjust to the augments, and isn't just being downright reckless.
There is probably many reasons, like the degeneration of V’s neural network, the chip, Johnny’s conscience, lets not forget the tarot that V see’s, it has the same blurriness, and also the monk, that Johnny cant see.
V has a double consiousness with Johnny, sharing the cyber load between the two of them. Thus reducing/halving the mental stress of cyberpsychosis
True and David also had way more mods than V I think that’s worth mentioning.
That theory doesnt make much sense because if u get the legend at NC ending (the one u go to space) V doesnt show any cyberpsycosis symptoms neither his cyberware capacity is reduced and jhonny is far gone by then , but Thats just my opinion
i personally think that, like how D thought he was "special" because he was able to handle the sandy, V is ACTUALLY special, seeing as you're able to deck yourself out with cyberware way before getting Johnny in your head
Agreed
David is special to a point cause he was able to use it immediately 10 times with no meds and 2 should have been his limit but he's not as special as V I think he could have killed smasher too the fight wasn't really fair smasher has no emotion and he just watched his ride or die well die then smasher with previous knowledge of the weakness of the full body cybernetics he was just forced into instantly destroys the obvious weak point
@@Voltaic01 David had no chance against smasher. Smasher had already seen everything David's chrome can dole out. He knows the weaknesses and Adams chrome is most likely chrome specifically built for him specifically designed to be a one man army and designed to completely smash other clanks. David's chrome was older than what Adam has which I would say is quite a few years ahead of everyone else. Perhaps Adam struck a deal with Arasaka to give him their best shit they can make and he gets the preemo shit that don't hit the Markey fot a long time.
V soloed the tower of Arasaka and Adam Smasher alone in one night. V was something else. A one in a billion to have played Night City's game and came out on top inspite of their declining condition.

personally i like to think that despite the fact that silver hand is slowly killing V, having someone with him constantly to talk to and keep him focused would help stop psychosis symptoms
I like to think the entire game is V having cyber psychosis episode
I always attributed it to V being incredibly focused, defiant and determined- always onto the next job or the next mission, and never indulging in the kind of thoughts or urges that could act as a gateway to Cyberpsychosis. Also, unlike Smasher or David, V doesn't alter their appearance to robotic extremes- when they look in the mirror, they still look relatively human, and I think that is a great comfort to someone like V... that, despite everything, they still *look* like themselves.
That depends on every player’s decision because V can be just as you mentioned or the complete opposite because V is a reflex of your own personality, obviously if you take the decisions according with your honest opinion of the situation
I'm pretty sure this is actually precisely the kind of behaviour that can worsen the onset of Cyberpsychosis. Succumbing to it isn't a case of running out of willpower or anything like that, you become a Cyberpsycho when you stop seeing other people as being real, when you lose empathy for them. While keeping your appearance mostly the same would help, being entirely focused on work and not connecting with other people, not exercising your ability to empathise is how you lose it.
It's how Adam Smasher behaves, and Mike Pondsmith recently confirmed that Smasher is a Cyberpsycho, just that he's more high-functioning than most. Presumably, this is because his day job is turning fleshy humans into paste for Arasaka, so he can get away with what would usually be considered behaviour that gets you put down by Maxtac
I mean V and Johnny share a conciousness... it's basically two minds processing all this trauma vs just one.
More like the engram chip is suppressing the CP because of the rewriting
V spent about 2-3 weeks with Johnny, during which he chipped most of the chrome near the end. Kinda wasn't enough time to develop any symptoms. Also didn't help that half V's brain was scrambled by Dex and another half was constantly rawdogged by Johnny's engram. Cyberpsychosis couldn't even find a place to squeeze into.
David spent at least half a year chroming up as if he was trying to be the best Maelstorm member in the world and polished it off by literally becoming a 150% borg.
No one can have 100% borged not even adam , they still have flesh brain.
@@mailsibul no shit just like you can’t be 150% it’s obviously a over exaggeration
I think V's resistance to Cyberpsychosis comes from a kind of shared burden. Think like Pacific Rim, sharing the load of the cyberware between two conciousnesses.
His mods went a lot deeper than V’s can in game . Have you seen the scene where he’s at the ripper doc post time skip ? You could convince me he was just a human colored robot at that point . Even his skull was metal at the end .
Eng game v is the same. The only thing organic by the end of the game is the brain and even then. An argument could be made that that's not even organic all that much due it's process of being rewritten through out the game.
@@TallicaMan1986 well technically you don't have to get V chipped at all if you don't want to, so there goes that argument, and even if you do u can't get all the types of implants in the game at once you simply don't have enough slots for that, for example, you can't have mantis blades and projectile hands at the same time so my theory is that what V can get is pretty much the standard normal limit to what a ripperdoc is willing to put in u + all the cyberware V gets are already on the market tested and safe if u take your meds and stuff. David clearly went overboard, experimental sandy, Maine's projectile hand wich was probably a faulty device and so on.
@@Nought.27 what the player does is irrelevant. We take the absolute potential of V when we're talking about V. Not what a pacifist player does or doesn't do. We know V can be 95% chromed out. We know V can kill Adam Smasher, We know V soloed Night City etc. Other wise your argument can basically be boiled down to "this player didn't even beat the game, V is weak."
Mantis blades and projectile hands aren't necessary and definatly not indicative of someone's skill. They're cool, but a Shotgun will do.
@@TallicaMan1986 "what the player does is irrelevant" true u can kill anyone in NC or almost nobody, so if you take into account both extremes, the game needs to be the one to acknowledge if V is psycho or not and well it does not. even if you start killing civilians and you survive max tac you can move on like nothing happened. My argument was that a maxed-out V is still in a functioning state, 95% of the normal limit for a human, David clearly went over the edge because otherwise, it would mean that the last 5% would be the difference between V and Smasher full borg 100% and on a full borg you can practically put all the implant types in the game and more because you don`t have a human body for them to fit in anyway.
@@Nought.27

David was a regular everyday student who basically watched his own mother die. He watched his new friends die one by one too. Pilor, Maine, Rebecca. He was only 18 when he himself died.
V is 22-25 and was either raised as a streetkid to be an edgerunner, lived the high life as a corpo, or on the wild side as a nomad. They have a more lived experience of the world than David did. It is entirely possible, as V, to beat the game with almost no chrome.
David just dove in and was on the edge of just borging himself. V can't even wear all the chrome. You can only take chrome that your body can handle. David ignored that and installed them anyway. He ignored the requirements, basically.

@@nenadmilovanovic5271 very true, there was no “time skip” for V. Everything happened in the span of 2 weeks (give or take) maximum
Can i have the link to the tweet?
Let's not forget David probably saw most of his friends deaths in slow motion
V is, by definition, a demigod. Its unreal the feats s/he pulls in the game.
V is a cybernetic revenant, literally a ghost in the shell. Of course the normal rules don't apply - you can't traumatize a computer.
I don’t think you know what the word definition means
Or demigod for that matter
@@sekiro_the_one-armed_wolf 🤓
@@waldened you’re still wrong regardless
V's brain is essentially half dead and being constantly altered by the relic. No way any psychosis could take hold when you got 2 personalities keeping eachother in check.
I think V is special just like David. David was able to fight off his cyberpsychosis longer than a lot of people and for V, it doesn't even affect them much at all. There really are special people that either can stall out cyberpsychosis for long periods of time or it doesn't affect them at all.
V might be his dad
@@papafoundry5537 V can't be David's dad. V is only 10 years older than David. David is 17 and V is 27. That means V would have had him at age 10...🤢
@@etherealdreamerart I know it's obvious V is not the parent of David, but to add on, V also has the possibility of just not having a penis altogether, and you know after edgeeunners there's a mission and they very much don't know who David is so...
@@etherealdreamerart well its night city so who knows.🤣
@@doctorkrieger4404 I doubt it. V doesn't seem like the type to be a deadbeat dad. Plus how old was Gloria when she had David?
I would assume V is immune to cyberpsychosis because the nanites from the chip are constantly repairing his brain and rewriting his personality.
V is older than David so maybe he’s more mature in a way that he can handle his own trauma better or smth
brains more formed also due to age so it can handle different wear and tear david being younger cant
Plus V is actually knowledgeable about Cyberware and doesnt use old implants with back alley software. Unlike David who's using a Sandevistan from a cyberpsycho, and Maines arm launcher which he also went c-psycho. Plus David young and chipped his whole body way to fast
V states multiple times to people that chipping old implants increases your chance of cyberpsychosis.
Plus, let's face it, V has Viktor who is one of the best rippers in NC.
If David was seeing Viktor instead of his guy I'm sure he would've had a different outcome.
V is talking to keanu Reeves in his head he got it lool
I'd argue V's story is literally about cyberpsychosis. Especially considering just how... unhinged Johnny seems to be in flashbacks. The cyberpsychosis probably rises to the surface whenever he let's Johnny take control for whatever reason he chooses. It's just a different kind of cyberpsychosis, one that is intended to be deliberate by Arasaka.
Also the possibility that V having Johny in his brain may have helped a lot
I feel like Johny was actually V's cyberpsychosis
V’s brain is literally being rewritten to handle the absolute most human, human that ever existed so I don’t find it a surprise that he can handle all that cyberware
Exactly.
She got her immunity to cyber-psychosis at the cost of literally suffering brain hemorrhages every other day and her mind/soul being erased alive.
Her life-span got cut down to about few weeks/a month.
That is more that “fair price” for such limited gift.
V does have cyberpychosis.
We are the cyberpychosis
I'm glad I found it short I was wondering the same thing after watching Edge runners thank you for giving an explanation to this
V doesn't get to live long enough to see himself become a cyber psycho
V doesn’t die tho
That’s because he never got laid.

"Probably wasn't the wisest idea"
At least somebody said it, David could've had it all and taken Lucy to the moon like he promised, instead he choose to keep destroying himself and being a toxic boyfriend wanting Lucy to be an Edgerunners again before she got capture. The situation could've been handled differently and possibly much better, but David was held back by his trauma and hooked on the thrill of being an Edgerunner.
David was way more of a complex character. He had a ton of developement im such a short 10 episodes. I thought the way you did but after going back in my head i saw that i couldnt be more wrong. Dont get me wrong he wasnt a typical "good guy" but he lived true to his ideals and faced danger everyday trying to make it big even if he was scared.
What do you mean force? Lucy was using Maine's death as an excuse to not join the gang because she was actively trying to keep Arasaka out of David's tail. She jumps into the cyber world to snuff out all evidence but caught in the end out of her own carelessness. If she could have told this to David, he could have helped her. She didnt do that and eventually it lead to David putting on that military grade exoskeleton and finally nailing the coffin on him as a cyber psycho.
They were both toxic. Don't blame all of that solely on David. Even tho he had a self-martyr complex, it wasn't all his fault.
I like the idea that normally V wouldn't be able to handle so much cyberware, but because Johnny gets thrown into the fray there are now two mental states combatting the potential for cyberpsychosis.
That theory doesnt make much sense because if u get the legend at NC ending (the one u go to space) V doesnt show any cyberpsycosis symptoms neither his cyberware capacity is reduced and jhonny is far gone by then , but Thats just my opinion
So basically: "deep and interesting lore explanation" or "It just works like this, take it or leave it"
I wish we had an ending where v and Johnny got turned into one engram.
Fr tho, where they both had semi control or personality merge
@@-_EmperorCGod I wish
Who said V don't have Cyberpsychosis you just haven't seen me play.
Omfg yall have me dead 😭💀
V gets most of his cybernetics in a short period of time so the cyberpsychosis didn’t have enough time to effect him. I bet over time it would start tearing his brain apart.
You're forgetting about the chip in V's that keeps his body from dying. He's technically already dealing with a form of cyberpsychosis with Johnny controlling his body instead of him, while V is barely aware of what is going on
I think the Bichip worked as another part of the brain, helping V manage the side effects of the implants on his brain.
That theory doesnt make much sense because if u get the legend at NC ending (the one u go to space) V doesnt show any cyberpsycosis symptoms neither his cyberware capacity is reduced and jhonny is far gone by then , but Thats just my opinion
A lil secret, they already had the cure to cyberpsychosis
Like my Storyteller said to us once "I would make you roll for degeneration, but you're degenerating yourselves on your own". That's why the game doesn't have cyberpsychosis mechaninc, we are the cyberpsychosis
If you take in mind that V is basically to minds in one body, he can "endure" Cyberpshycosis a little bit better
One could argue that dealing with Johnny's consciousness existing alongside their own is a form of cyberpsychosis...
My headcanon is that any time you get bored and give up on a playthrough, that’s V succumbing to cyberpsychosis.
Trauma makes you get chromed up VS chrom makes you traumatized
I’ve always gone with the fact that V is either immune due to the chip literally altering his brain constantly or that he already has Cyberpsychosis in the form of Johnny Silverhand.
In an interview the devs said V is immune to Cyberpsychosis because they didn't want the mechanic to interfer with the casual players experience.
So the actual reason is V has omega plot armour that David didn't have.
Also V has had longer exposure to Cyberware than David, allowing his/ her body to become more adept.
David gave himself to many cybernetics, too quickly. While v got all of his op cyberware over time doing jobs.
I love that there is a real in-universe explanation for me deciding to just mow people down as V.
Humanity. David was surrounded by friends that kept him good and grounded. Loosing his loved ones was a reflection of him loosing humanity. Vi can handle it cause he's always got a friend in his head now.
They confirmed that Johnny being there hells with the burden of cyber psychosis
That theory doesnt make much sense because if u get the legend at NC ending (the one u go to space) V doesnt show any cyberpsycosis symptoms neither his cyberware capacity is reduced and jhonny is far gone by then , but Thats just my opinion
Ayyy a neonarcade short! Let's goooo!
V's already a cyber psycho
David fked up with that exoskeleton if he only lightly chromed up he'd still be here
there was an interview in the Friends Per Second podcast recently where creator Rafal Jaki talked about how giving the player cybersychosis would hinder the player's power fantasy, so they avoided it
This is the real answer, the game just wouldn't be fun to the casual players if they had to handle a "Witcher 3" toxicity level mechanic.
If David never saw that video from that one dude I feel like he could have been coolin
V arguably was going through early stages of Cyberpsychosis. V probably didn't live long enough to be fully diagnosed
V not dead tho
@@gundyr7462 depends on your ending. V lives 6 months after Alt separates Johnny from V if V chooses to return to the world in their own body.
I like to imagine Keanu acted like an assistant, he keeps everything in line while you do your thing. A symbiotic relationship if you will
My personal theory is that V can handle the strain because Johnny is like a second brain or personality that helps him handle it better or something along those lines.
Except we know the actual answer, we've been given a reason. V is immune to Cyberpsychosis because the Devs didn't want the mechanic to interfer with the casual players power experience.
Is there a possibility that Johnny made V more resistant when they merged?
V was also unfortunate
V absolutely has cyberpsychosis.
He doesnt
he does it's us the players (It's canon It's in the LORE) @@vectro51
The player is the cyberpsychosis.
Because all the players are goddamn psychos (speaking from firsthand experience)
V also had 2 minds to handle the burden
i also think that part of it is that v is much older than David and we know that age does affect someone's cyberware capacity, with it increasing throughout childhood
I think cyberpsychosis is about to added to the next big update overhaul
