The sauce you made with the Salisbury steak is almost exactly what I did for a crockpot Yankee roast beef I made. My roommate is very allergic to wheat flour, so I had to figure out how to do a gluten free brown gravy using rice flour. I normally use 2 pkgs onion mushroom soup mix & 2 cans cream of mushroom soup, but they both have flour in them. So I did a brown gravy with beef broth, used fresh mushrooms & onions, rice flour, & Worcestershire sauce, heavy cream & pepper. Lol, because I was using a powdered beef bouillon for the broth, it was salty enough. It was the best pot roast I've ever made!!

My simple gravy is 2 pkg brown gravy mix 1 can of cream of mushrooms soup and a can of beef broth all mixed together and pouted on top of the meat after flipping and bake for 25 more minutes. Works great everytime

I made this recipe, and I would rate it as excellent. My only experience with Salisbury steak, similar to probably the most of you, comes from my youth with the frozen TV dinner variety. I recently made my first homemade salisbury steak, using a different but similar recipe, and was pleased with the results. My interest was peaked with this Thatdudecancook recipe, because of the baking process. The previous recipe I tried, like all others I've seen on RUclips, fried the patties. I think that's probably the most popular method, because it keeps the meet very tender. However, I wanted a firmer meat, more consistent with the TV dinner type. The baking process definitely resulted in a firmer product, although it certainly didn't replicate the somewhat rubbery texture of the TV dinner meat. Of the two recipes, I preferred this one. I had no regular breadcrumbs, and instead used panko. I suspect that regular breadcrumbs would have resulted in a still denser product. The only other modification I made was to add some good quality dark soy sauce (about two tsps). Without it, I felt the color of the gravy to be too light.

This has always been one of my favorite meals. I don't use a lot of bread crumbs or ketchup (add a bit of tomato powder) in it. I'm a diabetic and it's a trade off for some mashed potatoes (dang carbs). It's a great freezer meal, that allows me to buy in larger quantities, fix it, into a 1lb aluminum container from Amazon, into the freezer. If I'm leaving the house, I'll pull one, set it into the instant pot covered in foil, add a cup of water, delay start it to be ready when I get home. Perfect! Works just setting it into the crockpot also.

One of my favorite meals. Yours looks delicious! Sometimes I don't have time to cook for myself and the Hungry Man has to stand duty. I've found that cooking them in a conventional oven per the instructions ( 350 for 45 minutes) is way better. Cut slits in the tops of meat and veggies, remove plastic from the nasty brownie and throw away, then when done, butter and season the beans and mashed potatoes.

I made this. It's awesome. My sauce could have been a little better. That's on me and not you. The flavor was excellent. Thanks for your videos. I'm going to be making more of your stuff. Great videos, great attitude, great humor, great food! I have one question. Why do you beat on that refrigerator?

The way y'all described the hungry man stuff is spot on imo.
I'm still traumatized by being forced to eat those on rare occasions. That was over 45 years ago.
Yours looks & sounds amazing though 😋

I make homemade Salisbury steak at least once a month. I just grill up a quality 80/20 burger patty with salt, pepper, onion powder. My gravy I make with corn starch vs flour and finish with a splash of sherry as the gravy is finishing up. Nothing like homemade if you like Salisbury steak.

One thing I do to add a punch of flavor to homemade burgers and Salisbury steaks is add powdered beef bullion (not cubes) to the meat mixture. It adds more flavor and help retain the moisture.

Salisbury Steak - This was the name given to this dish during World War "I" along with Hot Dogs getting their name. Otherwise this was a "Hamburg Steak Dinner" and hot dogs were "Frankfurter Sausages." Very similar to what was tried with "Freedom Fries" during the Gulf War.
A note on tasting raw mince mixtures for seasoning before cooking them off. You can microwave a scant teaspoon of the mixture for 20-30 seconds and taste for seasoning. I recently learned this trick from my reading about East Asian dumpling making and it's come in handy a number of times.

This is a reinvention of the Salisbury steak. The actual Salisbury steak as recommended by Dr. Salisbury is a bit different. Although he didn't call it such, he used it as an elimination diet considering it as a way to repair one's digestion. His version was cubed beef cleaned of all connective tissue and extraneous fats packed together just enough to stay together while cooked.
His book, "The Relation of Alimentation and Diseases" is a fascinating read.

Wrong. Hotdogs were invented in 1936 by Larry Hotdogs, when he accidentally dropped a bag of prize-winning pig buttholes into his Dick Shaper Machine.

People may shame me for this but dont knock it till you try it! I use impossible meat with panko breading! I drizzle a little olive oil with fresh herbs and garlic and that allows you to form your patties! It taste way better than red meat in my opinion and its a healthy and delicious meal! Now you have create that mushroom onion gravy of course 😋

I never thought I missed Salisbury steak dinners (can't remember the last time I had one) until I made this recipe. I used a combo of ribeye and sirloin steak for the ground beef, so it's really not even a fair competition!

The way to safely taste the raw meat for seasoning is to cook a small dab in the microwave or a frying pan. Also, I might try to brown the patties slowly on low/med heat so I could incorporate a fond into the sauce. If it starts to burn, you can abort...
