I had a bad motorcycle accident years ago. The trooper noked at the door to tell my wife, and my wife broke down. I am oke now and every night i hold here tight, I just lay there awake in the midle of the night................. Thank you Bruce

5 weeks ago I was in a motorcycle crash the required a road closure and a MediVac unit. So thankful to them, the Aultman Hospital trauma team and the kindness of strangers to stay with me and dig the mud from my mouth so I could breathe.

I was on my way to Ontario Airport from LAX on a cold drizzly day to catch a flight to visit my family. There was a wreck on the freeway, a man was lying on the ground, he was in bad shape. His toddler son was screaming jumping up and down in the truck. I stopped and ripped the sheepskin seat covers off my seat and covered that man, and prayed for God to heal his injuries and I prayed for him not to have brain damage. I always wondered if he was ok. You are the only 1 who has had my heart&soul

A perfect ending to an incredible album. I always imagined the dying man was the hero to one of the other songs on the album like Drive all Night, Stoln Car or Ramrod. It was kind of the end of Bruce exploring romanticiing youth and fast cars. Those characters end up on the side of the road, or laying up in bed dwelling on their mortality.

I wrote this before, my sister died in a wreck on the side of a street and this song describes the cops knocking on my parents door at 2:00 am and telling them that their baby died on the side of the road and every time I listen to it I cry but I feel good that Bruce described it this way and I can get some peace from it.

I'm glad for that. Listen to this version by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. It's more in line with the old time country musician who wrote it, Dorsey Dixon , (hard scrapple life for sure) and other old times people who do it.

@@georgetteconstant9050going to have to listen to that version, thanks for the suggestion. When I first heard Bruce singing this my mind immediately went to another song that I hadn't listened to in a few years now, along the same idea...when you get a minute check out Don't Tell Mama, the recording I like best is of Ty Herndon ...think you would probably like it as well.

AT 4K ON THE NEXT tour the working man's hero is charging 4K per ticket and that's not even front row so unfortunately our brother from another mother got eaten by the Dragon that is the machine and no one at the record company nor his management team will comment on the ticket prices! I saw him in 1982 in Denver Colorado at McNichols Arena and it cost me I believe at the time $12? And the truth of the matter is he sold his catalog and can take care of his family for generations to come but the Working Man just got bit in the jail by the truth and the reality of what the business is! A terrifying situation that unfortunately I've been a part of for 35 plus years of my life and I feel horrified by the situation! There are many RUclips videos you can look into about this issue and no doubt a wonderful songwriter and performer during three and four hours shows! But that being said what about the man who's putting your roof on is he supposed to give up a few months of salary to go hear his hero? My heart goes out to his long time fans who are the guys that work their butts off and put their Hammers and nails to work and how can they pay a couple of months rent just like going to see a New York Yankee game anymore because they can't afford the $50 to park the car! Do you have our working man's hero and I'm not blaming him I'm just stating the absolute truth for what have read and what I don't understand.

"Wreck On The Highway" reminds me of too many friends who lost their lives on the crazy highways where I grew up, as well as the time I was t-boned by a drunk driver and came very close to losing my own life.

This is my favorite song on The River. How anyone can write a song that so profoundly helps you confront your own mortality is a mystery. He's either very lucky, or a genius.
He wrote, and continues to write, music on a plane a couple of levels above any other songwriter of the of my lifetime. I'm just in awe at how good he is.
IThis song is an example of why he's Bruce Springsteen, and everyone else is not.

Such powerful, thoughtful lyrics, just had to post:
Last night I was out driving
Coming home at the end of the working day
I was riding alone through the drizzling rain
On a deserted stretch of a county two-lane
When I came upon a wreck on the highway
Now there was blood and glass all over
And there was nobody there but me
As the rain tumbled down hard and cold
I seen a young man lying by the side of the road
He cried Mister, won't you help me please
An ambulance finally came and took him to Riverside
I watched as they drove him away
And I thought of a girlfriend or a young wife
And a state trooper knocking in the middle of the night
To say your baby died in a wreck on the highway
Sometimes I sit up in the darkness
And I watch my baby as she sleeps
Then I climb in bed and I hold her tight
I just lay there awake in the middle of the night
Thinking 'bout the wreck on the highway

This song is my boss's favorite one.
Depuis 30 ans cette chanson me bouleverse !
    Long live The Boss !
