Crawl for 5 minutes a day or just work your way up to it! Get down on all fours. It may end up surprising you. Don't get discouraged. Try it for a minute a day, two minutes a day, etc. Just get down on the ground and switch up how you move your body every day. AND it's pretty badass looking. A lot of people ask me how to start with primal or animal-type movements. This is how.

@sf2explus I have been trying to lose 13kg.. and so far more than 5kg have gone.. and apparently, believe it or not, walking on a treadmill removes more weight quickly than weight training. When I do weight training, my weight would just stuck there. But when I walk, just for 1km or 20 minutes, after dinner, in the morning I would lose 3-5 Dutch ons (1 ons = 10 grams).. I am not sure how it works like that.. what I am thinking is, perhaps if I do weight training, my muscles grow, and so even though more fat is burned, more muscle masses are built and so the weight stays the same... or perhaps I should do more intensive weight training?

    • @jacklabonte6839

Mix it up. Do regular crawls, bear crawls, kings, crab walks....etc. it's literally a full body weight workout. Deceptively demanding on the lungs, and forces all your muscles to work together.

*In Parkour we call this ground QM* and its a foundational movement for everything else.
(Quadripedal Movement - as a broad definition, theres different kinds, but the basic forward and backward QM is like you did, keeping your back straight and level and you never touch your knees to the ground)
Its great because it teaches you to use your whole body to move, control opposite limbs in unison, and be comfortable and strong on the ground.
And it is some seriously great conditioning.

Increases in protein synthesis, metabolic rate, cardiac health, and muscle mass are the benefits I'm seeking from exercise and what most peoples results are from. Most folks these days wouldnt physically be capable of burning the surplus of calories they consume in the amount of time they set aside for exercise even if they had the motivation to do so and itd take some time for them to get to that point. Better to just not consume a surplus in the first place unless youre doing it for a reason imo.

It always depends on personal prerequisites. Going from 15% body fat to 7% body fat is a completly other job, than going from 30% to 20%. Cause with 15% you already have muscles, burning the fat. With 30% you have no muscles, you have to build them. So there is no one thing fits all.

Based on how your body’s biomechanics, and physics work it’s obvious this is a good workout. When you walk upright your weight is all distributed pretty evenly, because we’re well balanced that way. However on all fours our weight is distributed onto mainly the limbs, mostly upper body in this position. Also when your spine is horizontal you’re forced to stabilize your core, and when your core is tucked and you’re bringing your knees up toward your chest you contract your abdominals. I mean look at chimps, they’re jacked af because they walk this way.

I saw an adult woman on a swing in a kids' park swinging back and forth like crazy for about 30 minutes and she was lean like a toothpick. Certain body movements can shape you real well. Look at gymnasts. They have incredibly proportionate bodies and they don't need to weightlift in the gym. Their own body weight is enough.

@@InfamousAustinT0 same here. Happens to me when trying parkour (just the basic stuff) or martial arts. Just the fact that I'm by myself jumping around or kicking the air makes me self-conscious.
Having music helps to ignore the people around you. Also wear sport clothes and people will be less judgy even if they don't understand what it is exactly that you're doing.
That being said tho, the feeling is mostly in our heads. Most people either don't care or are just curious, with no jugdement against you at all. The ones that think you're weird or crazy will just keep it to themselves, and the ones who approach you will do so to encourage you or to ask out of genuine curiosity. So it's good to do whatever training you want to do despite the awkardness; it's a great mental exercise in will and focus.
Plus, rings are very cool man, everyone knows it takes a lot of strength so if they stare, they're just admiring you (which feels akward too, but way more tolerable). But yeah, with this crawling exercise it's gonna feel weird, nothing we can do about it except overcoming the feeling haha

Khm....Well its probably not the best advice BUT......do 2-3 shots of I dont know....vodka or something and then go crawling in the park. The effects will be twofold. Nr. 1 You wont mind people looking at you, Nr.2 It will add an extra coordination chalenge due to your motor skills being obstructed due to alcohol.

@@Yarblocosifilitico crawling is more push-based locomotion, where as climbing is more pulling-based (with some pushing). I would recommend ground locomotion together with climbing, same way most exercise programs generally tend not to completely discard pushing or pulling movements. Both are needed if you want to be versatile athlete. If you only want to specialize in climbing, then maybe in that you should not focus too much time on different pushing skills.

Any locomotion exercise other than walking/running would give you that feeling after five minutes doing it straight. For the simple fact that the human body is not efficient at doing it like other beings on the planet. Any quadrupedal locomotion exercise will tire you immensely if you never tried it before. However, it can also be trained and developed to the point where it becomes efficient and you don't get tired anymore. This should be the goal of any training in locomotion, the search for efficiency. Cover as much ground as possible using as little energy as possible.

    • @jamesr2936

Great comment but slight correction, the human body is highly capable at swimming, unlike other primates. We can both hold our breath for long periods and cover far distances without rest in the water.
Swimming is the fundamental form of locomotion, as the first animals emerged in the oceans hundreds of millions of years ago. We also begin as a fetus submerged in fluid.

Being capable of move ourselves in many patterns is not equal to being "excelent" in it. We are just good swimmers compared to fishes... For example.
We are just good movers in general, but not excelent in one thing specific.

Many animals are better than us at one of those things, but not both. We can also hike mountains at extreme altitudes like Everest, yet survive in deep diving in the ocean. We aren't amazing at one specific thing, but that's what makes the human body even more incredible.

For a lot of people five minutes of continuous bear crawl would be enough to break down some muscle tissue.
Inflammation (caused by exercise) burns calories in order to raise the local temperature.
Calories are consumed by phagocytotic cells in breaking down tissues.
Calories are needed to attach amino acids to transfer RNA so they can be added to growing chains in new protein.
It takes calories for the cytoskeleton to move proteins into place.
The concentration of calcium is higher in damaged tissue and it takes energy to move the calcium back into the sarcoplasmic reticulum against a concentration gradient.
It takes energy to move other ions into or out of the damaged cell to re-establish normal resting conditions.
Enough to induce hypertrophy? Probably not if you’re well trained, but the sheer number of muscles working through recovery process mean most of the burn will come in the following 48 hours, not actually during the five minutes of activity.
