      I felt the same way; while they might be a couple pounds heavier on a scale there is no comparison with the Austrian bikes, Beta's are more agile, more stable, have more usable power, and their handling is confidence inspiring. I found that tough trail sections on the KTM were made easy on a Beta. Specifically, I liked the 250rr race edition and the 390rr race edition. If you adjust the power valve on the 250 or 300 2t they are more powerful than the KTM 250 or 300xc. Lastly, the 390 is amazing. With KTM, the latest 4 strokes (250xcf & 350xc-f) just feel big, as in - not agile, the motors feel like they are mapped too lean and flame out easily on tough trails. Frankly the new xc-f's feel like moto bikes with an 18" rear wheel and I would much rather ride a YZ250 or a YZ250fx than another orange bike. I am saving now for a Beta, hoping to find a low hours 2018+ 250rr 2T.

      Hey Aleksi. 2016 390RR rider... found it interesting you thought it too heavy for enduro, isn't the 390 the same weight as the 350? Just getting started with the enduro stuff, loving your channel for a bit of motivation!

    "I struggled to stop in the corners". Itsure looked to me that you were carrying a lot more speed on the 390, I think that's why.
    I love my 300RR. I'm up 3 clicks front and back on low speed compression to keep from bottoming and that's all I've done. The power from the engine is fantastic, with gobs of low, low end grunt and will wail pretty good when you wind it up.

    What scares me away from Italian bikes (older ones) is the exact same bunch of reasons about Ferrari, Fiat, Lamborghini etc: parts are a nightmare, fixing is a nightmare, odd short lasting fidgety parts and noises and prices/dealers and availability. If at least the first few issues have been solved, reliability then I could be persuaded over another wr450, MAAAAAAYBE. Yamaha wr450...Australia's BEST selling bike and for a long long time. Anyone own a Beta for more than 2 years?? Your feedback would be very welcomed

    • @brycegreen8900
      @brycegreen8900 5 лет назад

      Beta does not have these issues (neither does the new gasgas, overall fit and finish being better on the gasser though). Parts and availability are not an issue. Lots of parts cross over from different brands as well, usually you can find a list online somewhere. These bikes are higher quality out of the box than most other brands. Wouldn't bother buying anything other than a gasgas or a beta to ride offroad .

      I have owned 3 Betas, a 2014 300 EVO which I sold because it had a lot of small issues with components, a 2016 300rr and a 2016 430rr. The 300 has been mostly good except for poor electrical wiring, bad wiring connections, poor wiring loom routing through the frame and poor quality of wire. I have had to re wire and fix issues from, headlight and instrument power failures, to charging issues, all stemming from poor wiring. Now I am re-anodizing the forks do to wear on the insides of the tubes. This is another common problem that Beat and Sachs know about and it is still happening on the 2020 MY bikes. My 430 had a connecting rod bearing failure which resulted in a seized engine at 50 hours, Because of its relative low hours I have no idea if the forks are going to be a problem or not, same with the electrical but I imagine there will be problems. Here in Canada the distributor charges a lot for parts and has poor inventory so you are forced to wait for seemingly minor things. While I have always enjoyed riding the bikes and how they handle quality control, poor component quality (wiring and forks) and spotty spare parts supply sully what would otherwise be a really good bike. I will not buy another.

    Had 2015 Beta 250 2T.
    It was sharp. That was said by everyone who rode it. Husqvarna 300, and even KTM TPI 250, Beta 300's etc were not even close to that punch my beta had. But that suspension was awful... Sachs suspension bottomed out all the time and was harsh on bumps. In the snow it was hard to keep straight line when new Husqvarna TPI was smooth like cuting a butter. Front 13T and rear +1 rear sprocket(I bought 50T) and Suzuki needle NEDW with jetting that Beta OEM needle uses during winter. So only had to change needle during summer and winter. That engine with KTM/Husqvarna forks would be a dream. It ran really great.

    I've got a 2018 250rr. It had no low end torque until I adjusted the power valve to be even with the case. Then the low end torque came alive. I've ridden the KTM 300 TPI and compared it to my 250. They feel similar as far as torque curve. The KTM does have a bit more down low.. but, I wouldn't say it's night and day difference. I often think about converting my 250 to a 300. I'll have 200 hours on it by winter.. so maybe a christmas present for me. Sometimes I do wish for a bit more grunt at the very bottom of the rpm range.

    Owned a 2013 RS520 The good: The bike was a great dual sport machine. I’m not a racer but a fifty year off roader who rides SoCal and Utah trails and fire roads. Power was linear and climbed all the way to the top end smoothly. It was stable and went where you pointed it. Was fast enough to keep up with everything except the Big Red Pig XR650R. Had great trail manners for its size and lugged well at low Revs. Was fast enough to scare you on forest roads and slid predictably. Quality parts and nice finish. The Bad: Plastic oil pump gear gave up around 3000 miles which cashed in the head. Replaced it with an after market steel gear along with a new cam and head. Sometime later around 5000 miles the seal on the water pump shaft failed and I ended up with cross contamination in the oil and coolant. A relatively inexpensive repair but could have been worse had I not caught it early. Sold it to buy a Honda Crf450L. We’ll see how it works out, so far so good.

    Thanks Aleksi, nice review. I bought the 2018 300 RR and love it. Runs strong and clean here in Colorado. Re jetted it for altitude and the tail pipe is almost always clean. A little bit of a concern when I see other 2 strokes always having a greasy tail pipe, but it keeps using the oil in the reservoir consistently. Tried the 200 rr at the demo days here in Colorado and bought one. It's very light and nimble, but even after re jetting it gets really only and uses quite a bit of gas. Was told Beta's seem to have there floats high in the carbs and I haven't adjusted that yet. They come with a 15-48 sprocket combo which is too high so I went to a 13 front. Waiting to get the 52 rear but it definitely woke it up.
    I'm a larger guy also but it seems to have good power which will improve once the carb and gearing is set better.
    It still has a couple of turns to go on the power valve and then there's always a lighter spring. May look into the Lectron carb in the future. Now I'm waiting for someone to come out with a 250-270 big bore kit for the 200, now that would be sweet. If you can ever make it to Colorado we can show you some incredible country!!
