      If your average moving speed is 25-40kph a 250 4 stroke is a dream machine.
      You have to have the ego to watch the big bores fly by on the gravel roads.

      my mate and i got a 250 exc and 250 excf 2017 at the same time. both ride very similar. the f revs out very hard like the two stroke. slight difference in engine breaking as expected otherwise its just the noise it makes. the excf is very under rated especially in aus where plenty of people opt for a 450. very light easy bike. not the same torque as a 450 but rides a lot like the exc.

    Hello fellow riders. I have bought new a 2017 TE300, a 2019 TE 300i, a 2016 501, and a 2017 FE 250, and ridden them for thousands of miles, mostly mountain singletrack. They are all great bikes. I just traded the 250 4T for the 2019 300i. I carefully modded all the bikes for local conditions. The 300’s: the 2017 carbed bike is noticeably lighter. Both make the same power but the TPI bike runs great all the time. The carbed bike is sensitive to elevation and temperature changes and requires rejetting for changing conditions. It also loads up, needs to be revved to “clean it out” to get max power, and stalls on steep downhills. Yes, I know how to jet..the front fork works better on the 2019 bike too: a little stiffer valving and better stability and bottoming resistance. The TPI makes the throttle response much more consistent at partial throttle conditions, like trying to find traction in 2nd gear in the rain..now the 2T bikes fueling is perfect all the time, just like the 4 T bikes. The extra weight is the cost. I loved my FE 250 4T bike and found it smoother and better handling than the more popular 350. But even geared way down to 12/52 it lacked the power and torque needed in 1st and 2nd gear hard enduro situations: boulder fields, steep climbs, super tight switchbacks, etc. On flatter terrain like this video it was great, but the 300’s are lighter and much more powerful: perfect for flying the front end anywhere, anytime, without needing to slip the clutch. Hope this helps.

      Do you think it's risky to get a 300 for a beginner? I'm torn between the 250 2t and the 300 2t.

    • @chrispotter2948

      I got a 250xc over a 300 really only because I was able to find a new 2019 for $1500 less. Everyone wants the 300, and once they all sell out the dealers reduce the 250s as the new model year becomes available. I love my 250. Stock gearing has plenty of power and I'm not a small guy. Then again I got the last of the carb bikes.

    Very good comparison. You are lucky to have had the opportunity top try out all bikes on the same track.
    Had I had that opportunity, I may have ended up with the 300 2 stroke. But I ended up buying the 500 4 stroke.
    I can say that I was glad in a recent desert trip for that "insane" power. But on the twisty stuff, I always suffer despite its low weight.
    Good video, thanks

    I ride a 2016 450 xcw for two years and it is great. I ride in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in single track that is actually narrow tight trails, these trails in this video are what my riding buddies call wide open quad tracks, tight trails you bang your bars off trees constantly.

    I really liked the 250 tpi when I had a demo model. I thought the power delivery was great and the bike ran perfect through the whole range of throttle. Still felt like a 2 stroke to me, just a little crisper.

    I may have to try the 250 F. I always rode 2 strokes but they were all motocross versions and they can get away from you very easy in the woods. I purchased a used WR250 F and I loved how easy it was to ride but it was really under powered. I then purchased a used KX250F and fell instantly in love with it. Suspension was easy to adjust to my riding within a few rides. It handled everything in the woods and hill climbs with ease. Then when it came to purchasing a new bike my friends convinced me to go back to 2 stroke. I am a small guy and only weigh 125 lbs so I watched some reviews on the KTM 150 XCW. Did not like it at first but after a few months of riding it, as well as putting the high compression head, and the thinest cylinder base gasket to increase torque I really fell in love with this bike. However I am always on the pipe and that makes it a bit dangerous compared to all my friends that ride the KTM 300. It's a lot more work. Changing gears, up and down, although if you stay on the pipe I can ride 3rd almost all day, but it makes it a more dangerous. All that being said, I really need to get on a KTM 250 4 stroker. I find you can be lazy on a 4 stroke, be in the wrong gear, and just more usable power and not spinning my back wheel as much.

    One thing I noticed having owned two 500cc four stroke bikes and then going to a 300cc 2 stroke is that the four stroke push through rocky sections without deflecting too much and the weight helps it and so does the rotational forces of motor. The two stroke was much more enjoyable to ride and in technical sections the light weight was amazing and I would love to get a chance to ride one of these new injected bikes.

    Very good demo, and safe advice, thanks. I used to ride a 450EXCF, for leisure off road, very torquy but heavier at end of the day. I now ride a 250WRF, lighter but missing low rev torque. I should try adifferent mapping and Akrapovic exhaust , or ... Go for the 250EXCF.

I have to say that i'm a two stroke guy and my next bike should have to be a 4Stroke but after that, i will took a 2s again.

    I had the chance to ride a 2018 300tpi model on an enduro tour and i was really impressed how it handles techincal sections like uphill over ruts or uphill streambeds with woods.
    It really seems that the relative soft suspension was setted up for this kind of riding, i really had the feeling that i had much grip, with the clutch i had a good feeling and the motor pulls from very low without stalling. I have never driven a 4stroke ktm enduro but if they have the same behaviour like other 4strokes on very low rpm, on very technical sections you have big disadvantages. I really like 4strokes and their linear powerband and i can see that you like this 250 4stroke on that track. Greets from Austria

    I tried Husqvarna 2019 FE350 and FE450. These things are so damn powerful! I ride easily japanese 450 motocrossers but this time it was like learning to ride again. The track was sandy and they were just digging in. I didn't like the suspension on the 450. It was just like you said in this video. I just haven't uploaded my video yet that you could see by yourself ;)

    I don't blame you for choosing the 250 4 stroke... They're so much fun to ride. Feel super lightweight so they don't smash your body up and you can actually ride them hard when most others on the bigger bikes have to baby their motors for fear of launching into space.
    I'm a bigger guy and yet it's the 250f's for me.

    Good vid, man Im tore I like 2 strokers, but I have been riding 4 strokes the last few years Im not into the tight shit I live in Alberta Canada with lots of room to ride lots of good hills which I love to ride I could spend all day riding a steep hillside, well most of the day anyway. The 2 stroke 300 xc-w right now is a great deal [2018] just not sure Im nearly 6 ft tall and weigh 210 pounds love 4 stroke power for the hills but these 450's take their toll on the old body at the end of the day, thinking of getting the 300 xc w whats your opinion on the hills for this bike will it get me to the top like a 450 4 stroker??

  • @helavatar
    @helavatar 5 лет назад

    I tried EXC-250F, 350F and 300TPI and my favorite was the 250 four stroke. It was able to climb at low speed and had enough torque for my riding style. I am not aggressive rider so it fit me well and since we do not have massive long climbs like in Romania or Poland the 250F is enough. :D

  • @maximusmiles8435
    @maximusmiles8435 5 лет назад +26

    The weight difference between the 3 bikes isn't that much. The 250 EXC-F is 236 lbs. 350 is 237 lbs, and the 500 is 240 lbs. The handling characteristic your referring to is the gyroscopic influence of the larger piston. It may feel heavy to you, but Heavy isn't really The word for it.

    • @klecooaleksander4332
      @klecooaleksander4332 5 лет назад +4

      PA SGT to me the 500 feels sluggish, but i think it has to do with the 500 makinf you more lazy in general. I was laughing my ass off on the 250 excf but on the 500 I was shaking hahahah

    • @maximusmiles8435
      @maximusmiles8435 5 лет назад

      Ya the power is completely different. The five hundred is more suited to super aggressive light guys, and guys who weigh 200+ lbs I have the 350 and it's perfect. Enough torque to lug but enough power for my 180 weight and ability.

    • @leslieaustin151
      @leslieaustin151 5 лет назад +4

      mld Well, you only get a gyroscopic effect from things that revolve. So maybe the flywheels give you that, but the piston is reciprocating (going up and down) so no gyroscope there. Most gyroscopic effect on a motorcycle comes from the wheels. As the man says, you’ve just got to find the right bike for YOU, and go with it. All of these are much too fast for me!
      Les

      Same, I am starting to believe a 350 or 300 might be a good fit for me now. Had my 500 for the last 3 years and it is great all around.

      I tried the 2017 KTM 300 2 storke and what I noticed first was no vibrations, second thing was the lack of power compared to my old Yamaha WR450F... I did go for the 2019 KTM 500 EXC F and I am very happy with it. Feels like the 300 2T when riding slow but easier to control the power for someone who have not ridden 2 strokes for many years. The gyroscopic forces makes it harder to turn at speed but that is not big problem as I do not dare to go fast in turns anyway lol :)

    It doesn’t matter the year model whether it’s a 525, 530, or 500 KTM’s 500 EXC models are the best dual sport bikes around, I can run 65 mph down gravel roads and get 50 miles per gallon, and then I can take it to the trails and it makes way more torque than most people need. These bikes are amazing

    I would love to test the 250 four stroke - but buying new is sooo expensive
    Not sure if 8-9000 Euros is a wise investment for a bike that is going to be dropped quite often :D

    I felt the same riding a 300 2018 tpi compared to my 2015 300 with a lectron carb mine felt wayyyy more powerful like chalk and cheese I do feel like the 2019 tpi got a lot better tho!

    For me personally the TPI models, a specialty 250 are more predictable then carburetor version . I will choose 250 TPI for hobby ride and 300 TPI for racing.

    Im buying my first bike and I think im buying a 250 4-stroke. Should be easy enough to ride, and not too big to start with, but also won’t get too boring quickly.

      You won't be disappointed with a 250. If money is an issue the older Suzuki dr350's are great, it's what I started on, they are easy to work on and very reliable. I'd get a dual sport if I were you, they are the most fun bikes on the road and you can get from tail to trail easy enough. Good luck

      I’ve got an ‘07 250xcf and can’t see ever selling it. It’s just an all around kinda bike for anyone to have fun on but it’ll still move if you want it too. Graham Jarvis can whip ass on a 250 4t. Most of the time it’s about what we want and not just what will get us by.

    On the KTM website,the 250exc-f and 350exc-f have the same weights.(103 kilograms)But why do you say the 350 is much heavier than the 250? becaus of it's more powerful?

    • @EnduroWithAlex
      @EnduroWithAlex  5 лет назад

      The moving mass inside the engine makes the bike feel heavier. And never trust those numbers. 😅
