  • Save $500 and replace your rear springs yourself. The Z4 is notorious for broken rear springs and the dealer wants a ridiculous amount to do the work. You can order new, original BMW springs, from GetBMWParts.com for a fraction of the cost and save the labor by doing it yourself.

    If you can't get the control arms low enough for the new springs, just use a small bottle jack. Wedge it between the control arm and the underside of the frame. The new springs are longer than the old worn/broken springs so the spacing is tight. I'd recommend this method as you don't have to jump on the wheel hub and you don't need a second person for the job. 25 bucks for the bottle jack.

    That's brilliant thanks. Just for info for anybody doing this solo, you can use a scissor jack for lowering.

    hey I looked at your video in order to see the rear brakes since I'm putting the samo on my e30. It was strange to me when I saw the surface difference between the pad and the rotor, but it lookes the same with your brakes.. still strange but I guess thats how they made them

    Thanks bro but how do I know if the spring is broken? Does make noise? Or I have to remove the wheel and check?

    • @charlieaf92
      @charlieaf92  Год назад +1

      Remove the wheel and visually examine it. The break will probably be at the very top or bottom. Check out the first 3 seconds of the video and if you look closely you can see where it snapped at the bottom.

    Jeez why on earth would they charge over 800 for this. Even 5 or 600 would seem a little steep. Seems very straight forward

    That’s actually a Z3 rear spring you are replacing it with... Funny you had a Z4 previously, I had a Z3 and did the suspension about a dozen times. Enjoy, good video.

    Hello, what is the torque spec for the bolt/nut at the end of the video?

      Sorry I am not sure. I would recommend checking online for a factory service manual or one of the Z4 forums.

    Thanks man. Question can I replace the strut shock at the same time using this method?

    • @charlieaf92
      @charlieaf92  6 лет назад

      Sure I don't see why not. You really just need to remove that lower bolt and then whatever is holding the strut/shock at the top as well.

    Disconnect the anti role bar linkage before standing on the disc to lower it otherwise you will snap the thin aluminium drop down link like I did today 😳

      Doh! I'm sorry to hear that. I guess I just got lucky as I don't think I left out any of the steps I took. Sorry its been so long since I did this project I honestly can't remember.

      charlieaf92 no worries mate your video was helpful , they needed replacing anyway rubber perishing , the bounce when pushing down with your foot is the anti roll bar bending I guess the trick is to not overdo it like I did haha 😂

      charlieaf92 I’ve got for some Kilen springs same height as m sport ones but they seem to not get thinner at the top/bottom , see how long they hold up!

    So you just replaced the spring with a BMW OEM replacement spring?

    • @charlieaf92
      @charlieaf92  7 лет назад

      Yes - same spring, genuine BMW part, just unbroken and brand new.
