I almost couldn't take it. 1. Sannan trying to compensate for some of the nonsense he's been doing. (Good!) 😂 2. Sannan absolutely losing it at the sight of Chizuru with her hair untied. 3. Sannan's gentleness and softness coming on through just like it does with the forehead kiss. 4. When he asked that question my heart stopped, because it's something I think a lot too, regarding romance. I find such a question infinitely more romantic than simply parroting "I would die without you" to each other. It creeps me out. I won't continue because it's very personal, but this is another instance of Sannan saying something that just hits almost impossibly hard for me. This fictional man is everything to me. But of course, Chizuru gently nudges him back to having hope and thinking of the two as a team. I like that it's phrased as "before that", because yes, it could happen, but there is no sense crying about it right now. Right now they're together, and they have more of a chance as a team than they do alone. I have no doubt that Chizuru could very much continue on her own if she absolutely needed to. She's incredibly strong-willed and faithful, and I think he knows it. 5. The way Tobita Nobuo's (Sannan's VA of course) performance encapsulates the tender sorrow, relief, and fear he's facing at this point in the story. There is so much soft rawness in his voice, especially near the end. You can tell this goes beyond being touched at this point. He is legitimately being brought back to life by her faith, but he is also now becoming slightly anxious that he will not live up to the future he now can finally see being a reality; of failing both the Corps and Chizuru. He may not shed tears, but the things he says, and the way he says them, so plainly state that his heart is crying. He's so overwhelmed with so many emotions. One of the main reasons he fought back so hard against the idea of gentleness and hope is because he didn't want to have it dashed, that much is obvious. He was fully willing to serve his self-imposed monster role; that's why Chizuru is so dangerous for him and why he constantly seems to jokingly chide her for reminding him he's still very much just a person. By this point, he's realized he can finally start believing again because there's someone who will give him room to catch his breath. Someone who will make space for his complicated emotions, his fears, and look them in the eye while still reminding him he's very much human, and it's not just comforting; it's *terrifying.* But this time, rather than pushing her away, he shares his worries with her the only way he knows how. He trusts her with his genuine concerns now and desperately wishes for her to safeguard the thing that's kept him going, and the people he doesn't want to disappoint. It's very vulnerable for Sannan, and very beautiful.
At the end, Sannan grew attached to Chizuru like Okita did.
