I had my A/C the hole unit was replaced with a 410A unit what would and how would the new 410 2 ton unit run if they did not flush the R22 out? Or if they didn't flush it all out. ??
Looks like Daniel is getting better and better everyday, I think you found a good one. I would have like to see how you flushed/cleaned the existing line set. Nice job and you even did your good deed for the day.
Well finally got a chance to watch the rest of your video I've been busy I see Daniel likes a lot is learning watching you do all that silver soldering reminds me of when I raise stainless steel for oxygen and nitrogen and medical facilities about 17 years ago
I retrofitted several hundred evaporator coils and condensers when I was working for the subway from r-22 to r-407 and we would flush out the lines with a flush and then blow them out with nitrogen! It worked really well! Just make sure you do it until everything comes out of the other end! The only thing for you to watch out for is whether the old lines were soldered together and can't handle the increased pressure of r- 410! Great job Mikey pipes! Like your sales spin on replacing the other unit!
Been hearing some mixed things about using flush on lineset from various manufacturers. Some say only do a good recovery, some go ahead and flush, others blow out with Nitrogen. Thoughts?
Replace lineset when possible. If not flush test reuse. Also we replace the disconnect and whip. Vacuum from both ends...have had no issues doing it that way. To each their own...
He kinda said he flushed and tested the lineset in the beginning lol, also the vacuum style you use is, really just a style lol. It's just much quicker lol
I just had a brand new Goodman central AC complete system installed to replace the old R-22 system. Outside unit and air handler. After installation the tech left but the AC unit never cooled. He didn't even stick around to check if he unit was cooling properly. He did flush the old line set just like in this video but I don't know what went wrong. He's coming back out tomorrow. The outside unit is not blowing hot air when I place my hand over the fan. The air is just ambient temp. The AC line going into the outside unit is not cold to the touch which tells me it must be the outside condenser? IDK!
Good video, are you still having problems getting equipment? In my area I am still having problems, I had to revert to an OxBox brand for emergency replacement
Good morning Mike I feel your pain I spent many hours in temple as a kid . I went and grabbed my fire extinguisher when I say Daniel trying to braze next to a gas line . Just curious why did you braze and not solder ?
We had a section 8 housing project and I had to cut out remove clean and reinstall over 75 evaps. Easy work but what a mess 80% of them didn't have a filter the other 20% the filter was sucked into the return
Don’t be afraid to heat that pipe up some more Daniel, wait till it starts to turn reddish and place the brazing rod on the opposite end and you’ll see it pull in and fill the joint. You’re doing great 👍🏻
You should really use a third core removal tool on the micron gauge side so you can valve it off when you release the charge because it does mess up your micron gauge
The guys using one hose are using it on brand new line sets with new systems. Nothing wrong with one hose setups on a new install. 200 microns in 5 minutes. I use two on Evap swaps where the systems has been in use and running for a while
You can use 2 hoses, an your vaccum gauge at the furthest point. When gauge is attached right to where your hose is attached, your not getting an accurate reading. Your gauge is at the closest point. Just a tip, do it how ever you please.
having the second hose near the gauge will affect the reading, however, your decay test has you close the valves anyway which removed the effect and gives you a good reading. Another channel I watch in social will pump down with both hoses and just close the one by the gauge if he needs a "better reading". Only using one hose when you can use two is just making it take longer
RX11 is a good product and it works good if done right. I personally like to flush them and do a pressure test at 350 to 400 for no less than 30 minutes then pull a vacuum down to 200 microns and let her rip
DAMN, cooked your o rings in your gauges i bet :P should throw some wet rags on there man , Glad to see you used wet rags to save the valves on the service valves ! Do you use the harris15 % silver solder ?
I use 2 hoses and at the end (sub 200) valve off the side with the micron gauge. Continue to pull down and allow time to equalize. Then run decay test. I like your technical and yet practical approach to the job. Thanks for sharing!
@@PipeDoctor Mr. Pipes, I noticed when installing Bosch systems you only use them for AC. In your climate do you believe they can be as efficient or better than running baseboard heating with a units that’s 80% efficient. For example when outside temp is about 40 degrees. I know there are lot of variables to consider but I would like to hear your thoughts on this topic sometime.
And Mikey you didn't show us you flushing the lines ! I see some guys like to restrict the exiting of the flush by crushing the end of the line a bit to better scrubbing of the line .
Mikey pipes great video love the wet rag use it all the time ,made me nervous when your we’re brazing I was watching your gold bracelet coming close to that heat LOL
Everyone in the world uses R-32 except the US! More efficient, single component (not a blend), cheaper, and units use about 10% gas. US need to get with the program. Before anyone comments about being flammable, please look up the conditions to ignite.
Hey Mikey, since you first started using the wet rag I grabbed a few and it workes great. I also started using it on the filter driers to avoid that burn and it looks much cleaner at the end. I recommend you using it on the filter driers as well. Looks nice and no need to blow on it when it lights on fire. Great job by the way
by the way we always pull from both ports and measure the vacuum from furthest away! The guys using One Hose have no idea about molecular flow through a vacuum! Watch Jim Bergman for Accu tools/mQ
replacing also better when it comes to the line set, somewhere along the old line set if you try and clean it the copper is still cover with old oil from the system and may leak at any time.
15:52 I could tell that he didn‘t watch the video from HVACschool… elsewise he would have known that 1. always L the brazingstick (btw. you‘re doing it wrong yourself, you should watch more of your colleagues content… (HVACR Videos -> perfect brazing technique)) 2. Constant flame on the copperline, when the copper is hot enough the brazingstick is going to melt on its own and flow into place 3. too much material used… that only happens when you braze out of a bad viewingangle…
Would be cool to have glasses with HUD and thermometer that could show you the temp of the pipe so you know when it's perfect to braze. This might be helpful FLIR DM285 - Industrial Thermal Imaging Multimeter
Hey Mikey when it comes down to Danielson not putting up videos you should require him to wear a body can and then put it on his for him LOL :-) :-) just a thought
I watch you and Daniel with the oxy torch and it must be the vid recording because to me ,it looks and sounds like too much Oxy ( oxidising flame) .An oxidising flame may heat quicker but that isn't the the best way to solder copper pipe. A Neutral flame is almost silent and easier to braze with ,even a touch more fuel works well with silver solder.
I like to repair because replacing isn't trouble shooting. And if a repair, $500 vs. $7,000, adds 5 years everyone's happy.
My great grandfather was from New York, and he used to tell me all the time don’t be a stunad!
You rock Mikey pipes! Keep it coming!
love it when you said help the man
Working on replacing my 2.5 ton rheem r22. How do you pick the correct air handler that will mate to existing ducts? Thank you in advance.
Thanks Mike! Pretty much what I figured but wanted to ask a pro.Shout out from suffolk county!

It would have been nice to see how the old unit was vacuumed down and how the flush works since I am in that predicament now and am doing it myself.

Question. I’m replacing an R22 with 410a
Line set, is it better to replace or flush
Replace if you can
Would be nice idea to write factory cap specs above the cap while wiring up the unit for future use…love the new Hebrew Pipe Doctor Channel! 😂😂😂
What do you flush lines with for a gas change over?
Nice job Mikey. Ahhh, the 5 Towns...my old stomping grounds.

Hey Mikey what brands do you like to sell? I know Bosch but what makes ya wanna sell all types of other brands and how do you pick and choose ?
Daniel is a very good learner
I realize this is old , but I've seen you use staybrite 8 , do you still use it , I just started using it
Flush 💯 definitely do it if it holds pressure!!

7:04 yeah and we would have loved to see the proflush and the lineset tightness test 😁
We used flush when we couldn't replace. We just purchased the pipe wiper. No more flush.
Check it out. I have not used it yet. If you do around 5 changeouts it will pay for itself not using flush.

Is the flux in the brazing rod ?
Sil phos contains phospherous,so its self fluxing,no need on copper to copper
How many cfm vacuum pump do you have Mikey pipes?
Hello from the great state of Michigan. St mike I like to replace the line set when ever possible. Flush only when the line is hidden.
If you take a wet rag wrapped it around the hot solder joint with leather glove, it clean up the solder joint.

When is it appropriate to replace line set and when to reuse?
Depends on correct sizing/age/condition and ultimately access. If it's accessible, always better to replace.

R22 is still available but that evaporater didn't look good.
A2L refrigerant is coming soon. All HFCs in 2022 will have a 10% “phase down” reduction.
