  • I’ve been using a new method for my leather work using a set of reverse pricking irons, and I’m happy with the results.

If you put a pad, or a poundo block under the leather, you can go through without damaging the irons. I currently use three layers of saddle skirting as a pad.

Leather is a great way to go. I'll be making another video this week talking about reverse-pricking irons. I've been doing it for 6-7 months, and it's worked brilliantly. Thanks Mike!

I make a cardboard pricking template to layout the holes before I punch them to insure good corners.

Have to disagree with you about punching all the way through the leather. I get consistent results and so do many other RUclipsrs I've watched. The key is to make certain the iron is perfectly vertical. In your example, I saw what you are calling "inconsistencies" in both the top and the bottom row of stitching. To me both looked more than acceptable. But hey, to each their own and folks need to do what works for them. I just find it unnecessary to invest in reverse or "portmanteu" irons when I get good results already.

Yes. In the video, I explain my prosses and how im trying something new. Of course, if you find something that works for you, stick with it. So far, this has been very effective for me. I'll have to make an updated video. Thank you for the comment much appreciated.

I’ve been hearing about this that some of them were made to not go all the way through, so I’m assuming that you’re supposed to use an awl but if you’re using it awl won’t be all punch through and make the same slanted line on the other side?

i'll make a video on it. i have a template that i use now. This method is evolving and i'm discovering new ways to make it work smoother.

A little hint ... put a cutting board under the leather when using the pricking iron to punch all the way through. It will save the tips of the iron.

KS Blade is great! However, I switched to Kevin Lee Irons. I love the quality. I use 3.0 standard and reverse. You can DM Him via Instagram; he will respond soon. Takes about a month to get the irons in the mail if you're in the US

Pricking irons just pierce the underside, and an awl is used, Stitching irons penetrate all the way thru, and no awl is used, ARMATAGE leather is a master leather worker, with youtube videos explaining this, learn to stitch correctly
