I find it interesting that they only had Democrats guessing. I wish they would have included an even amount of Republicans and Democrats to guess. I know there was one man who was in the middle, but it still very much skewed left. Would have been interesting to see both ya know?

@@changedmynamebcyallwouldnt.. Well, you didn't really say anything educational in my opinion, but okay. That's more of an opinion than a fact, but I'm also going based off of what they identify as because that's what this video is about. All I wanted was more diversity of thought. Even the democrats seemed to to agree, which is fine but again, not diverse at all, so this experiment of sorts feels very off balance.
As for what you said about your opinion of where people land on the political spectrum vs how they identify, most democrats I know (and this is based on living in progressive San Jose CA for 21 years then moving to conservative Abilene TX 4.5 years ago, so the range of personalities I know is quite large!) are incredibly far left, and most conservatives are closer to center (yes this varies!). This is solely what I've witnessed in my life, which is all any of us have to go off of right? Most of us identify with either Democrat or Republican in this country. So that's what I, and this video, are going off of. And I'm not focused on other countries politics in this comment because I'm not in other countries, and this video is talking about America politics to Americans. So other countries politics are kind of irrelevant in this scenario. It's not about actual policies, it's an experiemt to see if people can figure out how someone identifies based off of first impressions. I've yet to discuss any actual policies/issues here, and don't plan on doing so.
Also, I would advise you not to say you're trying to "educate" someone online whom you've never met. You don't know me and I don't know you. Most people will take that comment as you feeling like you're smarter than who you're talking to, or just being argumentative rather than innocently "educating", myself included. But again, this is all my opinion. Take it or leave it. Have a blessed day! ❤

@Cherry yeah, he said he wasnt, but he emphasized later in the video his 'you do you as long as it dont affect me' mindset and the fact he only really cares about himself, which closely aligns with the individualistic nature of the libertarian idea. His policies probably align with democrat and his mindset is just more libertarian, which doesnt necessarily make him a libertarian, but does aid in his less childish manner.

I'm very young and a democrat myself but when the short girl with the hoop earrings said to only the democrats at the end "you guys are welcome to come"- that is the issue right there. The close-mindedness that far left individuals keep that doesn't allow them to try and see the bigger picture and cooperate with Republicans is a huge part of the problem; it's not just the right-side being the issue that leftists make it out to be.

The girl who was who was picking people was deciding if she would be friends with someone solely based off their political party and I think that a lot of people do that and that’s why America is so divided
There’s no way to be fucking together, majority of the old fuck conservatives these “chill republicans” voted in are now trying to strip my rights away, why would I want to interact with someone that made that happen? Any support of conservatives pushes these ideals
America is divided because Republicans have gone further to the right. Removing Roe v Wade, obstructing black civil rights, providing cover and obscurity for an insurrection, establishing abortion as a more severe crime than rape, not excommunicating Nazis and klan members from your ranks, calling LGBTQ+ people groomers and pedos, and taking an anti-democratic stance on civil and human rights.
As a result of this some people on the left do take a contemptuous stance towards folks who decide none of those things are dealbreakers, but can you blame them?
Well you see some Republicans see that people wanting basic human rights is wrong so I don't wanna be friends with them.

As a Democrat, I hate how most of the guessers acted in this, especially the girl. She straight-out said she couldn’t be friends with a Republican, and they were all acting like Democrats are so much nicer and better than Republicans, when both parties have really nice and good people and both have mean and bad people.

I used to think that the right was more intolerant to opposing views but I have noticed in the past few years that a lot of left-wing believers can be very judgemental and quick to shut down those with more conservative views. It doesn't seem to be as frowned upon to be biased against right-wing. It seems naive in my opinion to be too close to 100% to one side.

I’m a white blonde girl and an outspoken Democrat, however I’m from Mass, not the south.
I am an independent but my observation is The Democrats were more intolerant and judgemental while the republicans were more chill. 🤷♀️ kinda scary I feel like I would be really judged in the democratic crowd. Wish we could all just give respect because each of them had a story and were just really real human beings.
(Not all, of course) but a lot of democrats feel threatened by opinions it seems, hence causing insecurity and defensive outburst around the subject. They don’t like the idea that not everybody has to think the way they do and feel personally attacked and threatened by the mere existence of a person who identifies with the Republican Party, despite not knowing or taking the time to know why they chose the side they did. And I think a lot of democrats choose the Democratic Party purely because it has been made out to be the morally superior way to go- “if you choose this you’re a good person and if you don’t you’re a bad one”-while not necessarily putting a lot of thought or research into the decision. There are lots of republicans who vote the way they do because they see more pure intent in this party than the democratic one, but a lot of democrats view republicans as some sort of hate group. I agree with you on feeling judged in a democratic crowd.

lol it's not the far left doing that, on the opposite the far left is against identity politics, which is the kinda stuff that's really popular with the democratic party, and that's because it distracts people by getting them to think the divider is about race when in reality the real divider is about class. i'm talking about the real far left here (like marxism), not the stuff that's believed to be far left in the states. it shouldn't be about race or religion or anything, but rather it should be about class. take bill gates, take a random white person, take oprah and take a random black person: the black person and the white person are going to be far more similar and will have a far more similar experience in everyday life than the white person and bill gates, or the black person and oprah. it divides members of the working class/middle class and distracts them from uniting and going after the upper class.
the liberals are going to care about race and gender and disability and stuff, while the real far left will care about unionization, income inequality (no matter who it hits), worker's rights, that kind of stuff.

I am not american, at all, i’m not even a native english speaker. So i only know what i meet on social media, which means i am on my wary side when i hear somebody online is republican. I am a trans man and increadibly queer. I’ve gotten death threats only by republican people, as long as i’ve been on social media. I feel like people should accept others, and if people support my rights(as a gay trans person, i’ve known since i was 9) then you’re on my cool side… but the truth is that most republicans don’t support trans and queer rights. Many even talk about forcing trans people to get sterilized, or taking trans people off their medication. I get told i’m delusional atleast once a week in my facebook inbox… on a certain point it isn’t politics anymore, when it comes to human rights, everbody should agree more and better personal rights are good, right?
I do not know these democrats history with republican ideals, but by mine, i simply can’t afford to put my trust, nor respect into people who are leaning towards republican, considering the threats i have gotten the past 5 years online. (I’m 18, so every since i got social media, i’ve been contacted online because of my genderidentity). I wish i could afford it, and i wish i didn’t need to have these general… uh, safeties. Respecting people put me in danger, since i stop walking on eggshells.
I have the exact same thing when i hear people are religious, since, again, my experience woth religious people show that many lean away from supporting my rights, even to the point of wishing death upon me.
It’s a sad world, and i KNOW i can’t even put my faith in democratic people, but they lean more towards the supportive side as far my experience says. I see people as an equal, when they see me as an equal, but i can’t see you as an equal if you believe i shouldn’t exist, ya know?
If your ‘personal political views’ are that i should get my reproductive system forcefully removed, or that my treatment should be banned, or that i’m a sinner that shouldn’t be alive… i’m sorry, then i can’t respect you. I need mutual respect, and i don’t get that often from republicans.

@@veggiesaremurder I am liberal and I have a few friends who are politically on the right. But none of them are Trump supporters or are against gay rights. If I am having a party I would never invite people who are racist, homophobic, transphobic, or just downright mean. I can be friends with people who have a different opinion as long as that opinion isn't that I shouldn't have equal rights. I won't be friends with a person who doesn't believe in my civil liberties. Also if a person voted for Trump or any other candidate that I didn't like I would want to know why. Because historically speaking and even to this day in 2019 the Republican Party has taken a hard line stance against civil rights for the LGBT+ community and women's rights. So I would want to know their own individual views because party views don't always align with the individual. I am socially liberal but fiscally conservative and don't follow any american party. Also the walkaway thing was a stunt by right wing media and holds no truth to it. There is no major leaving of the Democratic Party at the moment. But in the future both parties will probably break apart into smaller parties because of the different views in each party's base.

The girl annoyed me. Basically saying republicans “can’t be nice or chill” or she can’t be friends with them. Some of the sweetest people I know are Republicans. I love having friends who have all different viewpoints it teaches you to learn different sides and be respectful of others. She literally learned nothing about this exercise. Democrats claim to be accepting and tolerant, well she was not a good example.
Thankfully as an outsider reading the comment section it's refreshing to see that she doesn't represent a lot of people on her side. There seems to be way more nice and tolerant democrats represented down here and getting along with their republican internet neighbours. I think the program and editing team did a bad job by having some quite negative stereotypes being represented on the left side. I found a few things they said to be quite offensive and I'm neither republican, american or democrat. Just a human being.

However, if you’re only saying that because some people in that same political party may have certain thoughts, but your friends still treated you well then that’s not okay. oh my word, plan b is birth control, preventing pregnancy before it begins. Abortion is not, it is murdering or killing a child depending on how sensitive you are, before it leaves the uterus. The issue is you shouldn't be "republican or democrat" ideally speaking, you should be "whoever has better/more policies that align with my ideals". Typically yes there is a side that will align with your beliefs more often than not, but if you have shitty candidates you should be willing to look at the other sides policies to see if there is anything worth voting for.
I understand that it doesn't have to be the basis of friendships but I don't think I would ever be able to be friends with someone who believes in and gives power to an institution that works to strip me of my rights and dehumanise me on the basis of my gender, race, sexuality or religion.

This just goes to show that as a society we need to learn to respect each other's opinions of each other. Not all of your friends should agree with everything that you do, having disagreements or debates helps you learn more about their side and as well as yourself. Being divided is the reason why we don't have the best candidates in office, that goes for House and Senate, we can do better and it starts with everyone understanding each other and respect each other. Being a well-rounded individual with serve more of a purpose in society than a narrow-minded individual.

@@arrowheaded depends on where you get your source material and how your political stance lies, influence or non influence, from my experiences personally I come from a heavy democratic state which weighs heavily in being liberal (and I'm Asian and a follower of Christ) but I prefer more right ideologies even before I accepted Christ into my life because what they seem to me in my opinion are more just and fair.
It's very difficult when you're in an environment with opposing values where a lot of democrats actually tend to make more stereotypes over republicans and oftentimes making very blatant and mocking comments towards opinions that goes against with theirs. The fear is very real and being an outcast in a heavy liberal atmosphere can become a reality, just as some liberals may experience that same feeling of oppression with republicans. At the end of the day, its' the hatred between two parties that separate us.
These are my takes though so I can't say for yourself 🤷 Judge what you will in your perspective
