    We have this problem . I don’t think it’s fair to ask the owner of the drive to just let it go. It’s an inconvenience that should be avoidable if not for the free range rude in this society. And just ignoring it is why we have so many jerk people . We have an irregular shaped driveway and our neighbor has people over and they always block our drive . It’s not my neighbor per se. It’s his dumb visitors and often workman coming to do things at that house. Heck I once had landscapers fully stage their equipment IN my driveway one day and they were real jerks when asked to move. I guess I just don’t get the audacity.

      My dad who speaks little English allowed my neighbors to park in our driveway ONE time out of his generous nature, but they took advantage of it and constantly started parking here. One day I just confronted them in a rude manner and basically told them to fuck off. They stopped parking here, but in a similar situation, their visitors park here often too. I've had one car towed and the owner was not happy about it, they came up to our house and I basically told him that's what he gets for parking illegally. With that being said, I am now more cautious or concerned about towing for the safety of my family when I am not around, but there really is no better way to get these people to move.

      I have a friend who owns the strip of property in front of his fenced front yard that is normally public parking in most areas and workers working on a house across the street from my friends house parked their work vehicles and equipment on my friends strip of property on a Friday without even asking if they could leave it in front of his house for the weekend blocking his trailer in that he was going to use that weekend. He was at work at the time the workers did this so this is what he came home to. He was upset but couldn't do anything about it. I've had neighbors leave flat bed trailers in front of my house up to 2 weeks. Never asked me if that would be ok. Yes I know curbs in front of homes is for public use but I'm part of the public too and I need to use that space also sometimes. And there is a 72 hour limit to how long any vehicle or trailers or equipment can sit in front of someone's home. I was just too nice and didn't call the police to have trailers removed. I'm starting to be more pro active and talk to people to resolve situations. So far people have worked with me on correcting situations. Why can't people think how their choices might affect their neighbors? I'm sure they wouldn't tolerate someone leaving trailers or vehicles in front of their homes for weeks at a time but in their minds it's ok if they do that. I guess people don't think outside their own little world. 🤷‍♀️

    Talk to your neighbor? Are you kidding me? It's a battle for 30 years. From owner to all his tenants. It doesn't pay to be nice. They clip an attitude like they're right and you're wrong. This Is everytime with multiple people. It turns into a fight. I'm done talking and being nice. If they were good considerate To begin with they wouldn't park there in the first place.

      I agree. My neighbours family who visit him every weekend partially block my drive and they all do it. The thing that bothers me is he is an old man who doesn’t own a car and has a driveway next to mine and they refuse to use or even park infront of his drive, they just partially block mine. I am dying to just clip their car with my van so they get the message 😂 he is a very nice old man but I am confident his family will make a big deal about it. It feels deliberate because they can’t be that stupid enough to not know what they are doing. There’s 3 different cars that do the same thing. It started off just a bit and now it’s a third of my driveway they are blocking. It pisses me off so much 😂

    Actually the neighbors need to be considerate and aware of how and where they are parking. It's part of the responsibility of being a driver. Do a walk around your vehicle to be sure none of your car is overlapping into a driveway. Go from the standpoint of would you like someone parking to block any part of your driveway. Treat others like you would like to be treated. I have to deal with this issue from time to time. It amazes me how people decide to park overlapping my driveway when there is several feet of curb they could park in front of instead. In my situation sometimes I have to maneuver my car down a long narrow driveway around cars parked so close to the end of my driveway if not partially overlapping it but I also have a van and large pick up directly across the street to avoid hitting and barely can safely get in or out of my driveway. When I talk to neighbors or their visitors to please leave me more room to access my driveway they seemed surprised that I'm bringing it up. Probably because they aren't the ones having to deal with this issue on a daily basis. People need to be more considerate and pay attention of where and how they park. My way of handling it is I'll nicely talk to people in person or leave note on windshields. If that doesn't work I'll have vehicles towed. In my state it's against the law to block driveways. I have elderly parents to look in on, appointments to go to, etc. I don't have time or the desire to figure out whose car is blocking me in. I'm actually a nice easy to get along with type of person but sometimes you gotta stand up for yourself. I don't block your driveway don't block mine. And why do people not park their cars in front of their own homes or in their driveways instead of parking in front of other peoples homes? Or have more vehicles than space to park these vehicles at their own homes? Maybe if I understood why people do what they do their choices would be less annoying. We all need to practice neighbor courtesy. I don't mind neighbors parking in front of my home but parking in front of their home should be their first option. Space in front of my home should not be monopolized by neighbors as I need to use that space too as do my visitors. Yes its public parking but common courtesy goes along way to having good neighbor relations.

    Ok...that's was pretty useless. You don't need a lawyer to tell you that if you can resolve this without involving the law, you should. The point of asking a lawyer is when you can't resolve it in a cordial manner, then what *step* you need to take if you have to escalate the situation (citations, summons, towing, etc).

    • @juanitasullivan3372
      @juanitasullivan3372 8 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately, there are too many people out there who can't figure it out on their own. Too many are predisposed to calling the law or a lawyer right off the bat. Talking to the neighbor first very nicely is the best way to start. They may not even realize they're parked in such a way that is causing a problem.

      The cops only got called in my case after the guy called the tow truck company and had my car loaded illegally. Some people think they own the street that their house is located on and only their word matters. In my case it backfired on a guy who insisted because my car was 3 feet back from the corner of his driveway not blocking it but near it that gave him the right to have it illegally towed.

    • @debbiemcnair8083
      @debbiemcnair8083 3 года назад

      @@steve19745 in my state cars can only be towed if blocking a driveway not parked near driveway. I always try to talk to people first because they don't realize they have parked partly in my driveway although I can't figure out how it isn't obvious that part of a vehicle is overlapping a driveway especially when there is several feet of curb that can be used to park in front of instead of ontop of my driveway. But so far every time I have nicely talked to those people who have parked too close to the end of my driveway they didn't realize they did that and worked with me to resolve the situation. I believe approaching people with courtesy and respect works better than calling in cops and towing vehicles. The situation I face is my driveway is long, narrow, and I need plenty of room to maneuver off of driveway onto the street, especially if there are vehicles parked on each side of my driveway in addition to the van and large pickup parked across the street so pretty much I'm hemmed in making it difficult to access my driveway. Unless a person has to face these driveway obstacles like I do they don't understand how frustrating it is to have to deal with it often. I believe in educating others over retaliation because my goal is to resolve issues over escalating them. Life is too short to live stressfully.

    I live next to apartment complexes and townhomes in a owner occupied residence.
    I have no idea whose vehicle it is that sometimes blocks my driveway even though I also have no parking don't block driveway signs on my driveway gate.
    Some times even the gate in my alley is blocked too even though it's illegal to park in an alley in my city.
    It happens all too often and about every month I have to call the police on the parking offender.

    Happened to my brother Someone partially blocked his driveway...3/4 blocked and he had to go ...He knocked on the neighbors door(it was their visitor) the neighbor said not going to move it and said we are drinking and nobodies going to move it....
    My brother is a hot head and backed his 3/4 ton truck into the suv and pushed it sideways on the street(blocking the street) and bent the 1/4 panel on the suv,it caved right in..His truck had zero damage...
    They came out later as another neighbor asked if they knew whose suv was blocking the road lol They came out and were outraged at my brother... They called the Cops and my brother denied pushing it,this was 4 ago he no charges or anything ,even the cop thought the drunk neighbors smashed it and parked it like that lol...The neighbors didn't block his driveway after that,they moved about 1 year later !! Its a quiet neighborhood no crime etc and no drunk neighbors anymore!!

    This just happened to me a few minutes ago. I mean, in NYC, there is never parking and these people who have garages don’t use them and take up parking for those who don’t have a garage. We didn’t block the driveway, it was partially blocked and he called the cops and we got a violation. Now honestly, I am very much pissed off at the fact of the fine. And I shall do whatever it takes to get this guy off our back.

      Help me to understand if you realized you were partially blocking someone's driveway why you didn't correct this by parking where it is legal to park? I am a homeowner and have had to work around vehicles partially blocking my driveway at times when the drivers had several feet of curb away from my driveway to park. It's not only inconvenient but it makes it difficult to safely get out of my driveway as there are cars parked across the street to avoid as well as cars parked partially in my driveway. I don't block other people's driveways and would appreciate not having my driveway blocked.

    I have a person who constantly complained about me blocking his driveway. he had a horseshoe style driveway on an extremely crowded street his driveway takes up roughly 8 spots on the street. I hired a lawyer to look up and find out how much of an opening is required according to city code they are only allowed one opening for their dwelling and the opening is not to exceed 10 feet. each of their openings in the illegal driveway with two openings is almost 18 feet. He constantly yelled at me the last time my car was nowhere near either of his two openings im thinking hes just angry cause he doesnt even have a car to begin with, i have a car that cost more than his building. well we got into an argument and i took a picture of my car it was clear it was nowhere near his opening. so he called a towtruck company to have my car illegally towed. so the truck shows up and i go out the guy had it loaded.soon after the police show up . i showed the police the pic of where it was. little did the guy know its a criminal
    offense to have a car towed just because he feels its blocking his driveway. the cop looked at the pic and immediately told the tow truck to drop the car. the driver refused unless he got paid 150.00 for his service. The cop asked him again please release the vehicle it was not declared illegally parked by myself or another officer you loaded it on this guys word. the guy refused to pay him i had zero money on me and wouldnt have paid him reguardless so the cop areested both of them the tow truck driver for grand theft auto and the guy who called for making a false claim and having a vehicle illegally towed. Things got even more interesting when i went to the car and pulled out my colt 45. theft of a firearm was also added. the guy who had my car towed got that charge. longer story short a month later the second opening to his driveway was closed by the city and his one and only opening was narrowed 8 feet it now measures 10 feet. constantly complain and do things the wrong way and pay for it ! the worthless prick wont be so fast to pull that crap anytime again soon.
