    Another nice benchmark by VanTechCorner thanks again for your work on practical real world testing and assessment of viable contemporary hardware options

    Love this setup .. only thing i'm wary of are the NICs themselves .. I prefer Intel NICs over Realtek for 24/7 routers

      Yup, I got some problems using the Realtek NIC with pFsense or RouterOS (Mikrotik). However, it is working great with OpenWRT. I have never got any problem so far (both x86 build & SBC).

      Used to think like this until all these firmware issues with Intel nics over last few years of models. realtek drivers have become rock stable over the years so unless the realtek hardware components itself used is not second grade I would feel just fine using it.

    If you run more loads (e.g. SQM, torrents), how's the power consumption?

    Thank you thank you thank you! I just got r6s and was very disappointed to it's routing performance (got sub-1Gbps speed) both when running FriendlyWrt and DietPi. But your video proved that I should see near 2.5 Gbps speeds. I proceeded to try out older version of FriendlyWrt (rk3588-sd-friendlywrt-21.02-20230222.img) and now I got full speeds. Not sure what's going on but I was just about to toss R6S and buy x86 based solution instead, but now I know better. So thanks again!

      Ok, found a workaround... R6S has 4 slow cores and 4 fast cores. If processes related to routing are assigned weak core, routing performance is poor. For some reason it looks like IRQ affinity tweaks or so are not working on FriendlyWrt 22.03.3 and sometimes weak core is assigned. So I disabled all weak cores on boot and everything is all good (who needs them, there seems to be enough horsepower even without weak cores):
      # Disable weak cores
      echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/online
      echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online
      echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/online
      echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu3/online

      It is strange. I didn't disable any cores and everything is working just fine.
      Just in case you want to use all the cores, here is my suggestion:
      - Enable Packet Steering (at Network Interfaces - Global tab)
      - Enable Full Cone NAT

    Hi, would you still recommend the raspberry pi4 power adapter for the Nanopi R6S? - I have recently ordered a Nanopi, so I am looking for the best power adapter now..thanks!

      Hi, I don't have any problem using the NanoPi R6S with the Raspberry Pi Type C power supply for days. However, you may take a look at other PD power supply since the R6S supports this.

      Hi, you can see the wiki page to find all the way to install the firmware, or check out my video for how to install the firmware to eMMC with microSD card ruclips.net/video/WylvVwlDrFg/видео.html

      @@VanTechCorner Thank you so much. I’ve been looking at diff setups and I came from the Reddit post that you made and I’m rather pleased with the wide variety of options.

      Hi, I don’t post anything on Reddit. Do you mind sharing the link to that post, I am curious to look at it.

    Hi! Any issue at 2.5gbe if use PPPoE Instead DHCP?

    • @VanTechCorner
      @VanTechCorner  Год назад +2

      Hi, there is no issue with PPPoE. My internet plan only gives me ~400Mbps throughput so I am not sure how is the performance beyond that. However, I am very confident that the router can handle Gigabit throughput with PPPoE.
      Here is the video with PPPoE ruclips.net/video/WylvVwlDrFg/видео.html

    hello can i add a touch screen for a gui to nanopi r6s ????

    • @VanTechCorner
      @VanTechCorner  10 месяцев назад

      If you are using other OS such as Ubuntu or Android, touch screen with GUI works well. I have tested a HDMI monitor with USB touch.
      If you are using OpenWrt, there is no GUI supported and it will show black & white console.
