So I'm sitting here in my living room learning how to paint from someone in Egypt. Half a world away. How cool is that? The Internet sucks in a lot of ways, but when I watch videos like this it reminds me why it is so great. Really appreciate Gee not going off on weird tangents while explaining things.
Been learning about pouring for a while now. Tried my first one recently. With a few hiccups overall i'm really statisfied, looks amazing, but it is an expensive hobby so i have to thank you for teaching basics for begginers and pushing us forward.
Yup! I’ve gotten my hands on Australian floetrol for the first time just a couple of weeks ago (its a real mission to do so in Egypt) and its amazing to be honest, but this water recipe was my favorite up until then
So I've been blooming for 2 years and I ran out of Aussie Flow for the 1st time and have some ordered but it will not be here for a week so, I decided to try this paint and water like you illustrated and it worked like dreamy..... Thaaaaaank YOU! I'm so excided to not have to have the Au$$ie stuff! Dallas, TX USA!
You have a pleasant way of instructing & i have watched many. I love this art but struggle with the pillow ?! Each artist has their own preference but when i try the same it doesnt work?! Very frustrating. Do you use house paint? Appreciate your advice, Diana
You are awesome. I have learned so much from you. Thank you so much. From Delaware USA. I haven't started yet. But looking very forward to do my 1st pour
That's the paint I want to work with when I get better. So glad you got it here now. Yay! Thank you for showing this. I'm learning how to mix up my paints.
Finding an alternative, or a home made, pillow would be good, There's always problems between countries of recommendations for that. I use a normal paint and PVA/Water for a pillow.
Awesome video! Windsor and Newton works as well. That's what I use because the Amsterdam one is out of stock in the shop I go to. But it's a little bit more subtle.
Thank you so much for this Gee I live in Cyprus and I can’t get any of the ingredients for the BLOOM technique, and I love doing blooms so I’ve been managing with silicone but it’s not the same 👍😊
Gee, thank you so much all your advices. For us, people from outside of US and Australia, they are really great lessons. I have one question: how you prepare the colour paints for the bloom? If cell activator is only Amsterdam paint and water, what about colour paints? Also paint and water but different proportion or paint with floetrol? Or .... well... I don't know. Please explain.
@@GeePours Hi Gee, again. So, last night I did EXACTLY the same as you in the video. Kitchen scale, Amsterdam white paint, water. I don't know... maybe in Poland we have differnt water - what I got was like thin milk! But I used it anyway. The halo effect accured immediately after applying of the paint and was wide for 3-4 mm. I knew it's not going to work and I was right :). At the second try I added a little bit more white paint and ONE tiny cell was formed. My colour paints ware mixed with floetrol. I do something WRONG but still can't guess what... Can you imagine that I even hardly create few tiny cells with silicone? I'm close to giving up.... :(
Hey Gee I have been watching all your videos cause I’m just learning but as I live in Australia I’m still confused about the recipes. Don’t suppose you could do all your recipes with floetrol for all us Aussies and make it so much easier.
hey Vicki! So the issue with this is that people around the world are going to have access to different materials that are all different thicknesses, right? What I did was make a recipe guide (where I used floetrol as the pouring medium) but more importantly I show you how to properly gauge how thick the mixture is regardless of what pouring medium you have access to. You can check that out here ruclips.net/video/4Tk9CrbiFdA/видео.html I hope it helps☺️
👍 Amsterdam Titanium White and water... 👍 If wanting a different color cell activator, would you recommend tinting the titanium white or using a different Amsterdam opaque color? Thanks for the great tips and thorough instructional videos.
It entirely depends on how thick your emulsion paint is. In the US it can sometimes be thin enough to be used out of the can like Color to Go - for me, it needs watering down
I followed a recepie with paint and floetrol for cells and with the black color I won't get cells I even add some drops of certain oil and no cells..don't get it! I got it with my white paint but not the black..can u give any suggestion..thanks
Yes absolutely, it could be one of two things. Either you’re not using an opaque black, or you need more of the paint in the mixture because white is more dense than black. Are the black and white you used of the same brand?
I tried this but it totally doesn't work😢 first question is the pillow always of house paint or can it also be acryl with pouring medium? Second with what did you mix your colour paint? With pouring medium?
If you dont know what I did how can you claim it doesnt work?😄 here’s the explanation for the whole technique: www.geepours.com/post/bloom-technique-for-beginners
To answer your questions - you could technically make a pillow from acrylic paint, but you would have to figure out the correct consistency, while with house paint theres options that are used straight out of the can. In my example I mix the colors with pouring medium. This mixture leaves a two second trace when you drizzle it (that would be a little thicker than 2:1 floetrol paint) What paint did you use with your cell activator?
@@GeePours I used an acryl paint bought in Switzerland, not Amsterdam. Mixed it with water as you did. Mixed my paint with a pouring medium 2:1 and used a very fluid acryl white also diluted with pouring medium for pillow, as I do not have house paint at home at the moment, so the latter is the only difference
@@KlazienMatterWalstra changing the amsterdam paint is changing 50% of the recipe. The recipe is only Amsterdam and water. There’s a reason for using this paint specifically (there’s a few others, but Amsterdam is by far the most tested - but its all in Amsterdam’s price range if not more expensive)

Almost all water based products are more than 50% water ☺️ certainly anything that leaves a thin film and doesnt build up texture is well over 75% water
Just ask a professional painter and decorator wherever you live what are the paints they use, if you are making your living painting they cannot afford to mess about with rubbish materials, also ask them if they use Floetrol!!!
@@GeePours Bet the painters in where you live have even heard of the Floetrol, The guy who lives next door to me is a painter when i asked him about floetrol he thought it was a joke. Not being rude i hope but when you are getting the results you are,you have it nailed youg man.
Hey, marveous videos, I have a question tho, is it ONLY Amsterdam white acrylic that works? I have Pebeo and other brands, is there anything secific about the Amsterdam brand?
Thank you! Okay so the short answer is no, its not only Amsterdam. But Amsterdam will work to create lacing across the majority of colors. Whats crucial for lacing to occur is above average quality pigment and binder in the paint - from there, they all “work” to different extents. Amsterdam just happens to be the most tested in this application.
