I have Gabrielle and it smells so luxurious, floral, and warm. Dimensional in a champagne way without being too dark. Beautiful, grown and, sexy Chanel dry down. Not at all juvenile and sugary.
I wore Gabrielle Essence in Palm Desert last September, she was perfect. If I could describe her, I’d say this is what Shiv from Succession would wear. Think weddings at an extremely expensive vineyard. Very bubbly and bright. I love her!
Yes I adore the Original Gabrielle. It is/was my signature. I think it is classy. I got it when I was 40 and I think it fits my age perfectly. It is soft, but not shy. The drydown I think is extremely beautiful. Musky, sexy but still elegant. Chanel is never vulgar, alsways sophisticated. I don't think it's dull or boring. I do own the Essence as well, and use that for summer. Indeed it is more sexy and has a vintage feel. But I love my classics: Nahema, Chanel 5 l'eau. I also think Chanel stays true to their house, to their image, which I find very strong.
I received Essence as a gift, I genuinely like it & wear it at work - because - it is pleasant & inoffensive & does not shout. I am a hospital nurse & so have a strict uniform policy to abide by. We have to wear perfumes that won’t upset sick patients & so far this one seems very ‘safe’. Also, during the course of a working day, I can encounter sights & smells that could literally knock you out, or curl your toes - or both! It is a necessity to wear a nice scent, so that you can tuck your nose down your top as & when needed (for attempted olfactory relief)! In terms of Chanel’s motivations, they are playing safe. This isn’t meant for esteemed noses, it is clearly aimed at the mass market (high yield profit), at those who splurge at Xmas and birthdays on a blind buy, cynically trading on their name. In the same way that wine or coffee connoisseurs don’t buy a £10 plonk or frequent Starbucks, maybe you are not the intended market; Coromandel is what they make for refined noses who will appreciate it, can afford - and won’t abuse it as either smelling salts or to block out truly noxious aromas… Out of curiosity what do you think of the 2022 Gabrielle Parfum? I have looked for it but sadly cannot find it. If you think it equally ‘Meh’ I will not seek it out.
I like Gabrielle, it is a safe scent for summer and probably add both version to my collection. Not a most exciting release from Chanel but it is still better than that horrible Joy or other sticky sweet or patchouli perfumes other brands come out with. As a guy, I find it a pretty unisex perfume. I guess Chanel knows there a democratic in young Millenials that just want a super safe and nice perfume and go after them. But I am a huge Chanel fan and I don't like to wander out of my Chanel comfort zone unless it's a Guerlain. Oh and i got a couple female friends who wears Gabrielle and it smells really good on them
I’m 44 , never saw an advertisement for it at all. Knew nothing but found it and immediately loved it. My husband loves the smell. I even wear it to bed.
You’re right about the wealth and fear. I didn’t realise how topical a description I was delivering. Or maybe the news was working on me at a subliminal level. Thanks very much for watching.
I love both Gabrielles the essence is nicer has more of a prescence I layer the original with vanilla Kristin Stewart was the wrong choice for the ad campaign
I met gabrielle during a sunny, hot summer day. I loved it. It was so hot and humid, and that EDT was just what I needed.Made me feel clean and dry, in a sense. The problem with Gabrielle, is that is lasts around 30 minutes on me. I met the essence 2 months ago, and I looooved the way it stays on my skin. I love it 1h after I spray it on me. i love it even more after 5h. What can I say? Good Winterish smell on me.
Also, I need to add, I am the kind of woman that can't stand any Chanel 5. I can smell it from a distance, and it always reminds me of hairspray on those old, posh, blond women.
I actually love the first Gabrielle, I would layer it with the lotion whenever I wore it. I always received lots of compliments. Just ordered Gabrielle Essence due to me loving the original one.
Blind buy for me. At first it seemed too safe. Almost cousin to J'Adore. Something already experienced and soon forgotten. But my colleague, who is very very picky on fragrances likes it on me and never complains (she hates almost every single perfume in my collection, no matter the brand-notes-pricetag-sillage). So in order to avoid her whine i started to wear It more often and now i can appreciate it more. Not unique, not bold, not loud, not peculiar but comfortable, carefree, ordinary pleasant. Perfect for the office, inoffensive. Btw i'll be smartworking from home for two weeks now and i am glad i can wear what i like more without worring about my colleague's complaints. 😈😇
The first Gabrielle was a total no for me .... I was 26 at the time and I decided to go with a more subtle similar scent which at the time was the Tiffany & co. Two years later here we are at another birthday shopping spree and hoping to finally convert to the more mature Coco or number 5 from my all time favorite Mademoiselle ....... I decided to smell this new Gabrielle..... and shoooot! It caught me by surprise..... I loved it 😱 and my husband loved it..... as it settled on my skin I loved it even more.... it got softer, the vanilla became more prominent and the citrus just faded away lightly. Everything I wanted for an everyday scent.... Mademoiselle is still my favorite but my husband says it provokes allot of attention. Essence becomes sexy yet remains beautiful once it has settled on my skin.... it’s not shouting for attention. Long story short, I bought Gabrielle essence and Mademoiselle (again) ..... I find it the perfect transition before going into the more mature sophisticated perfumes. 🤷🏻♀️ meh, perhaps it’s an American thing ....
Ah, excellent. I was genuinely hoping someone would leave a comment like this, because I really want to know what it is that fans of Gabrielle enjoy about the scent (and I don’t mean that in a sarcastic way at all.) Yes, I guess if you want something well-made and ‘undemanding’, then it ticks many boxes. Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to write.
Persolaise Perfumes I can’t quite describe perfumes quite like you Sir but recently watching your channel has me revisiting my other perfumes and questioning why I like, liked, or love them... so THANK YOU for sharing you passion!! Best wishes and lots of luck!
@@tani8784 No, thank YOU for watching. And for your kind wishes. I hope you'll enjoy my future videos. I'm curious: which perfumes were you inspired to revisit?
I sprayed it on my wrist in the perfume store and it gave me “oh-I-know-it” feel. Punchy sour flower with Clinique Happy memories. No intrigue. THREE days after the sleeve of my jacket over the wrist I sprayed this perfume on is radiating a fresh penetrating smell. Now I am intrigued and want to go back to the store. While my more sophisticated perfumes are lasting 4 hours this one is going for several days on the sleeve which was close to the wrist I sprayed this perfume on (I was not wearing my jacket in the perfume store, so I did not spray it on the jacket directly). So yes, after the initial lack of impression I have interest to try at least a travel size
I like the perfume because it reminds me at my first perfume when I was 5. My mom and I liked to walk in beautiful nature and we visited a castle in the city where I lived. And in that castle was a little boutique that sells children accessories. It’s a very simple perfume without harm. It gives me the same feeling when I had my own first perfume very simple and not harmful.😊
I loved your video. I am 38 and I live in Florida. I just smelled this today and I love it. When you mentioned that it smelled like fear I chuckled to myself. I went shopping today looking for a fragrance that would be suitable for my work in a government office. I don’t want to draw attention to myself or offend sensitive noses but I do want someone to think I smell clean and pretty if I walk past them. I guess it’s perfect for that, lol.
I am 25 studying in Med school, I passed all my exams last week from first try and I needed to celebrate myself and get my first ever Chanel perfume, although I was able to afford it years ago I always thought it was still early. On my way home I had a long transit in Istanbul airport and I was smelling all kinds of high end perfumes and the lady there started chatting with me and it is the first time I go with the flow and smelled what someone else tips me about, she also recommended ysl libre before it but I told her everyone I know in Sweden has it so I wanted something more unique. Chanel or Dior. She said this smells the best and after smelling them all I really liked it because I wanted chance but then someng about it felt too floral i think? And I like Musk, ous Wood sandal and oriental smells because of my origin (Syrian). I fell in love immediately ❤️🔥❤️🔥it is so classy but abit sexy as well.
I totally agree with you I wear it less then I anticipated.....it doesn’t really stand out like you said. I still like it(winter scent) I run towards other Chanel’s scents first before Gabrielle . Still a lovely white floral scent that is warm and comforting for me.
I really like Gabrielle and I am surprised people don't like it 😅 Next to Cristalle it's my favourite Chanel perfume. After some time citrus note changes into something more fruity and gives me an impression of pineapple(???) and then that pineapple mixes with creamy ylang and musk and somehow I find it comforting and enveloping, yet fresh and sparkly? 😂
I’ve just bought my first bottle coming through duty free. I normally wear Coco. (Been wearing it since I was in my 30’s, I wore Opium before that)I loved the creamy, deep intoxicating smell. My Daughter remarked she loved the smell and said “It’s smells like cleaning products-in a good way..” 😂 I’m now approaching 70 so I seem to have worn my Chanel in the wrong age line!
😂 Now there’s a novel use for a perfume 👍 I’m curious: what is it about Essence that you find different from the orignal? Thanks so much for watching... and for making me laugh 😉
Oddly enough Gabrielle Essence is the only Chanel I enjoyed. The only reason I didn’t buy it was because I had just bought a more powerful tuberose fragrance by Tom Ford. Now that I’ve had a chance to actually wear the TF, I will go back for Essence. Essence for me is very feminine, pretty and soft with sensually. It’s not unisex with manly notes. Coco Mademoiselle is too sharp and tart for my taste. Chanel 5 is too powdery old lady. Essence finally gets it right. Sweet, floral and citrus. One drawback is the last power is very short lived.
@@Glad2BGolden It's a winter fragrance if you enjoy wearing it more in winter ;-) Maybe you should put it aside for a while and see if you feel more comfortable in it when the temperatures drop.
I understand now the cold and unimpressed reactions by some once they discovered the scent. First, I need to confess here that I haven't smelled the original Gabrielle. To my nose, this Essence version is so unexpected... not in a good way, that is. It's Chanel, it's 'Essence'... and yet this is how it smells. It's just plain, a mish mash of florals and not distinctive enough. Don't get me wrong. The formula is smooth and I can feel the richness and nothing is rough, sharp or screechy here but it's the whole scent,.. it's just ... ordinarily good. Knowing Chanel, well this is shocking.
@persolaise I think Gabrielle Essence deserves to be pushed harder to the male market. This is a fantastic white floral, never too warm, never too heady, and quite close to the body with a subtle balmy sweetness in the base. Gabrielle EDP was a scrubber for me, unfortunately a persistent sweaty chalky note took over.
I bought a bottle of Coco today to take home, then I sprayed Gabrielle essence on my wrist. The only thing I liked was the smooth floral scent that is rich with floral notes. I didn't buy it because it's another floral that reminds me of bath products. I'm bored with the freshly bathed floral, like I just stepped out of a shower or bath. That's just breaking even. I want something interesting, thought provoking, while seducing the senses. So I chose Coco, not Coco Mademoiselle but Coco.
A question , Why does chanel makes the stickers on the perfumes loose? I mean why not inprint the chanel logo in the bottle. If you pay such much money for a chanel perfume and the logo is not even intprinted it can easily get off and there you have a bottle without a chanel logo.
i smelt Gabrielle Essence EDP the other day at Sephora. I actually liked it, it smells like a put together, sophisticated lady, I agree with you this one smells a bit like Chanel Chance EDP. I prefer Chance EDP than this it lasted 24 hours on my skin. new subbie here..😊 im from Paris, and its advertise massively, you can see it in every bus stops, metro and malls. im not sure 🤔 if it sells though.
L'eau No.5 and Gabrielle are the ones that draw me in. I am the younger target with no privat line money. I always look at chanel and think of No 5 EDP, the signature of my Granny, who I loved very much. I tried and smelled many chanels, I never found any I realy liked a d saw myselfe wearing. Gabrielle essence is still not for me, but it did get to skin test and I actualy want No.5 leau cuz it still has a bit of the No.5 DNA but I can pull it off with out having imposter syndrom
Tried both. Experienced the top notes of the original as quite lovely…..but quickly became boring. I was hopeful for the flanker but was very disappointed. Both would work for a nice soap or lotion. It might be nice for spraying on one’s sheets.
So I "like" the original. It's only because it was one of the first fragrances I smelled in my transition into smelling more "feminine" scents. I haven't smelled it in a year. My ex found it nice but liked other scents more. I think I will like more bold feminine scents more now but I'll see how this one fares. Another girls who just finished her bachelor's owns this. So it found it's target audience I guess
Safety and conformity lol 😂 Straight out of Brave New World- that’s what I want to smell like when I wear a perfume! Haha some of your comments really do make me laugh out loud 👍🏻
Luckily i had not seen your .. curbed enthusiasm for Gabrielle Essence before I bought it, because I am already well into my second bottle, and this is now my second favourite perfume after Mon Guerlain, and my boyfriend's favourite! Yep, he thinks it's SEXY and I think it's Pretty (🙂) good combo since I want to have ONE perfume from Chanel.. and I'm kind of on my way to be forever over Coco Mademoiselle. This will obviously not be the last time we disagree on a fragrance, I kind of expect it after I saw your enthusiastic cheer for Versace Dylan Blue pour Femme 😂😂😂
@@Persolaise I’m started to subscribed & following you now . I do hope one day if, you could make a review of one of my favs fragrance from Gucci Pour Homme II EDT which sadly has comes to distinctive. Hardly can find it anymore, although the price has become pricey now . Truly it is the art of scents... ❤️ from 🇲🇾
I just recently bought the essence version of Gabrielle, the bottle is just simply beautiful, but a bit slim I guess . Wanted to try it, just able to open the cap and smell it through the nozzle , it’s already made me melted.. what a beautiful seductive floral fragrance. This is love at the first scents... still don’t want to use it 🤓💙
I was on the fence when I first got this perfume.. it has grown on me. I am now absolutely in love with it . I completely disagree. It is beautiful and feminine. The more I wear it,the more I love it. To me after owning the Chanel standby’s that are absolutely gorgeous in their right. this is a fresh , light and lovely. My granddaughter adores it. no complaints here.
@@thusharaAV Well... prices never go down... But I can't imagine them doing away with the extrait. It's one of the most beautiful things in their range.
Original gabrielle: I actually like the original Gabrielle! I am 28 and i do not like anything too heavy or sharp. I work in a vet clinic and dont want to, and cant, stand out too much with fashion, makeup, scents etc. I dont want to be that kind of lady watching a movie in the cinema annoying everyone around me with a heavy scent. This is a great day time and first date kind of smell. Its feminine, not girly. Its not innocent, also not bold. To me its clean. Mature. Appropriate. Lovely. Essence: too round for me. Slightly hurts my sensitive nose and smells younger to me than the original. Too much ylang ylang for me.
@@Persolaise thats great to hear thanks so much!:) i really enjoy your videos and your lovely personality and vibe. Keep up the good stuff! And if know any other subtil fragrances id like please let me know x
Chanel may lure G Essence to buy Gabrielle for this Xmas season over Gucci....Guerlain I guess (Gabrielle lost the market share continuously)..... For real hardcore floral lowers (ylang ylang...tuberose...jasmine...magnolia....orange blossom) both frags are not WORTH
That’s a fair question. I suppose some will, some won’t. But I think that, generally, younger women are spending less and less money on perfume than their older counterparts.
I prefer standalone shorties! This format allows me to watch all your reviews; can fit them in my schedule. Thanks :) (Curious about Miller Harris' Leather Rouge and Serge's) I enjoyed Gabrielle, but it's bland and unexciting; not memorable. The story that it was much more interesting at first, and then got watered down, makes sense, especially if they were going for the untrained noses of the youngest demographic. I think they should stop marketing to youngsters (and genders for that matter). Just create something exquisite - and let it find its 'niche'. Just going by 'target groups' is lame and, I believe, not the smartest move. The demographic with the most dough is 40+ and especially in perfume, taste changes over time. It's not like if you get them as a teen, you'll have them for life anymore. Lastly, it doesn't evoke even in the slightest, the young Gabrielle - who was expressive, eccentric, intelligent and elegant in a bold way.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write. Yes, the idea of trying to appeal to someone, as opposed to just creating something beautiful, is interesting, isn’t it. Mind you, I know many perfumers have a particular wearer in mind when they’re composing. But that tends to be a single, specific wearer, rather than a homogeneous mass. Marketing has been the bane of many a fine craft.
I bought chanel gabrielle essence for a friend as a gift, and she says that she likes it very much, many young girls think that it is not suitable for their age, so I wonder if you think the same?

This is a fantastic white floral, never too warm, never too heady, and quite close to the body with a subtle balmy sweetness in the base. Gabrielle EDP was a scrubber for me, unfortunately a persistent sweaty chalky note took over.
That’s a great idea, but I can’t see Chanel doing it any time soon.
I love Gabrielle cos it gives me that needed confidence for my day
Wonderful! If it works for you, then you must keep wearing it.
I wonder if it’s something to do with costs.
i smelt Gabrielle Essence EDP the other day at Sephora.
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to write 😊
Interesting - I don’t think I’ve seen any advertising for it in the UK in recent weeks.
Enjoy wearing them 😊
Side note though: i think i will try experimenting with layering it with other scents maybe from Khayali.❤️🔥
Enjoy!
Tried both. Experienced the top notes of the original as quite lovely…..but quickly became boring. I was hopeful for the flanker but was very disappointed. Both would work for a nice soap or lotion. It might be nice for spraying on one’s sheets.
At least you tried them, eh?
So I "like" the original. It's only because it was one of the first fragrances I smelled in my transition into smelling more "feminine" scents. I haven't smelled it in a year. My ex found it nice but liked other scents more. I think I will like more bold feminine scents more now but I'll see how this one fares. Another girls who just finished her bachelor's owns this. So it found it's target audience I guess
Yes, I agree. And there really isn’t much to dislike about it. I guess it’s just hard to *love*.
wealth and fear. you nailed it. new sub
Much appreciated!
Safety and conformity lol 😂 Straight out of Brave New World- that’s what I want to smell like when I wear a perfume! Haha some of your comments really do make me laugh out loud 👍🏻
😉
Thanks very much for watching.
That’s okay - we’re allowed to disagree. The main thing is that you should continue to wear what you enjoy.

Enjoy, that is questionable, it seems I am trapped in the wealth and fear
If to choose from this type of category then Chanel Chance edp is way better and more interesting.
Thanks for watching. I think some of the Chance line is quite underrated.
Very useful👍... I just thought it was a little bit too long vedio, but maybe your followers enjoy that.
Thank you for watching.
We do! 😊
Thank you 🙏
I really like your English , very Maurice & comforting... 💙 🇲🇾
Many thanks, Jeffri. And thanks for watching.
This is love at the first scents... still don’t want to use it 🤓💙
@@ilovecake1980 Thanks for subscribing. Sadly, that Gucci is long gone.
@@Persolaise it s true , but still can get it in Amazon but the price is a bit insane 🤣
Does Gabrielle essence smells like coconut?
It didn't make me think of coconut.
Excellent - thanks for letting me know. And thanks for watching.
I love it I have a 30ml bottle but if it was alot stronger scent I wouldn’t mind buying a bigger bottle but it’s very and maybe too subtle
Thanks for writing. I agree it would be interesting to smell it in a more potent form.
Is it true that they are going to discontinue No 19 and relaunch it as a les exclusif perfume? If so it will be a bummer :(
That’s news to me. Where did you hear that?
It wouldn’t surprise me, because No. 19 is a poor seller.
@@Persolaise Heard from another RUclipsr. If it's true it'll be more expensive *sigh*
@@thusharaAV Well... prices never go down... But I can't imagine them doing away with the extrait. It's one of the most beautiful things in their range.
@@Persolaise Chanel will not discontinue any parfum because is the only brand who never did that with their fragrances since 1921.
@@andre3astar They certainly haven't discontinued many, but there have been a few they've 'culled' over the years.
I looove it! Maybe it's because I am basic 🤣 but I find it lovely!
If you love it, then that's all that matters. Enjoy wearing it! And thanks for watching.
I love it as well and I have varied taste. It lasts a long time on me and it appeals to women I know from age 25 to 60.
Wonderful. Thanks for taking the time to write.
Which perfume more better Gabrielle essence or coco eau de perfum?????????
I would say Coco.
This is brilliant: just the sort of comment I was hoping someone might write. Thank you. And thanks so much for watching 😊
@@Persolaise thats great to hear thanks so much!:) i really enjoy your videos and your lovely personality and vibe. Keep up the good stuff! And if know any other subtil fragrances id like please let me know x
Very kind words, thank you 😊
Chanel may lure G Essence to buy Gabrielle for this Xmas season over Gucci....Guerlain I guess (Gabrielle lost the market share continuously).....
For real hardcore floral lowers (ylang ylang...tuberose...jasmine...magnolia....orange blossom) both frags are not WORTH
Thanks for the comment.
No, it’s certainly not a hard core white floral scent. It’ll be interesting to see how it sells.
I can't understand how they want to appeal to younger people with these prices? Do you think a 20 yo kid will spend 100 euro on 50 ml liquid?
That’s a fair question. I suppose some will, some won’t. But I think that, generally, younger women are spending less and less money on perfume than their older counterparts.
I prefer standalone shorties! This format allows me to watch all your reviews; can fit them in my schedule. Thanks :) (Curious about Miller Harris' Leather Rouge and Serge's)
I enjoyed Gabrielle, but it's bland and unexciting; not memorable.
I agree with your conments 100%👏
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to write.
Yes, the idea of trying to appeal to someone, as opposed to just creating something beautiful, is interesting, isn’t it. Mind you, I know many perfumers have a particular wearer in mind when they’re composing. But that tends to be a single, specific wearer, rather than a homogeneous mass.
Marketing has been the bane of many a fine craft.
I bought chanel gabrielle essence for a friend as a gift, and she says that she likes it very much, many young girls think that it is not suitable for their age, so I wonder if you think the same?
I think if people enjoy wearing it, they should continue to do so.
Thanks for watching.
