I just installed hardwood for the first time 2 weeks ago and did an entire room by myself. There now have an entirely new appreciation for millimeter measurements. The biggest challenge is what to do if the subfloor isn't straight in some places and to be careful of walls and doorframes not being straight that can potentially affect the entire look of the floor. Knowing where to start as a beginner is very important. Tips ==> prepare subfloor with proper construction screws to remove all noises. Most subfloors I've see have nails. The hardwood floor 45 degree angle nail gun doesn't work if you're too close to wall so I recommend using a small baseboard nailgun. So many things to learn from a someone who has experience. Good luck!
I have all of my flooring… The contractor who was supposed to install them had an emergency and had to fly home. I still have the flooring. I want to install them myself. This is the perfect starter video. Hopefully by the end I see everything I need to know .. to install them. Love the vibe of this video 🤍 such easy explanation
I really appreciate another female stepping up to do a video on flooring installation. I am installing a 2 1/4" Hardwood (non floating) floor right now. If I can do it, anyone can.
I've searched days now looking for the type of flooring installation instruction video i need and this is it! Thank you! Made it look so simple which is absolutely wonderful! Thank you! I can't wait to start mine now.
I wanted to check and see how the floor is doing, especially installed as a floating floor, as some reviews on HD say that it starts to lift. Starting to build soon, and I really would like to use this brand of flooring. Thanks!
I love your energy in this video...I am about to rent a house and the lady that I am renting from needs to have flooring put in...it is waterproof hardwood snap in flooring...this is what this is right? Thanks for including knee pads in your safety gear links! I was going to ask, but you proactively thought about that. Love the blooper B-roll at the end!
It’s easy the only hard part be making cuts around doors. Also don’t put the planks right up to the walls leave room for expansion of the walls and the floor of it too tight it can buckle
Hi Jen! nice installation, I want to install this kind of hardwood flooring with same method with you (no glue and nail). So after 4 years of installation, how's condition of this floor? I see a lot of people glue and nailed it. Could you please share your current condition of this floor? Thanksss

So if start on one side you have a full width board but what happens if you get to the other side of the room and only a half width board will fit? How do you figure this out so it doesn't look weird?
does floating instead of nailing lead to easy separation in weather changes such as summer vs winter? I think I will nail mine but this looks easier. Also I am putting over old hardwood does that make a difference as well?
Yes. As for them though, they didnt use a solid hardwood. Since it’s engineered its mostly plywood. They could float the floor because they wont have much expansion due to it not being solid. I would never recommend floating a solid hardwood in a state or country with drastic weather changes
Great job Jen! One thing, and maybe I missed it but it seems there is no discussion of the chalk line such as how was it determined where to snap it and what it does for the project.
You're right, Andrew! Sorry that tidbit was left out of the video! We used the longest exterior wall and snapped a continuous chalk line from the front to the back of the house (ours measured about 50 inches from the wall - you just want one continuous chalk line if you can manage it). This chalk line was our reference, so as long as our floorboards stayed parallel to this chalkline, we knew we were laying the boards straight. After enough rows are laid down and the chalk line is covered up, you can snap another one if you need. We didn't have to, since the floor was pretty solid by that point. Hope that clears things up!
Be happy they did no take sheetrock all the way down. Any movement and it could move just enough to crack plaster. Great video and exactly how I put our house down also.

How is your Malibu flooring holding up over the years? I saw there is a click/lock version that you used, and also one that is tongue/groove. The tongue/groove version has a thicker wear layer (2mm) vs the 1.2mm on the click/lock version, but it would also be a little more work to install.
This just shows don’t trust everyone on here , you definitely have to remove spacers ( shins ) , let’s hope Jen does that video next year when she’s taking off all her skirting boards 😂😂😂
Good video - wish you would cover the "beginning". There must have been a carpet on this floor. Removing that to make sure that you got a base you can work with is actually one of the issues on which beginners fail the most.

Does this sound about right?

no, dont put another underlayment pad it would void your warranty, and the pad that comes on the back of your vinyl is sufficient enough, when you get your material it usually has a paper in the vinyl plank box that tells you what not to do, also if your worried you could go to home depot and get a vapor barrier, it looks like a huge garbage bag. www.homedepot.ca/product/natural-lvt-with-seal-guard-premium-underlayment-for-luxury-vinyl-tile-vinyl-plank-100-sf-roll-1mm/1000826529
