    Nice work. For an even more stunishing result mix the wood panels from different packages before laying the floor. Than you don't get light and dark spots and the view is a little bit more homogeneous.

      In his defense maybe he doesn’t want to maybe the client doesn’t want to and maybe there’s the liability he doesn’t want especially if the skirt boards are old and brittle. Would be a pain to have to fix damaged pieces when upon taking them off. Skirt boards staying on or taking off is entirely optional.

    I’m currently doing up my house and I’m a carpenter , would prefer to glue the engineered flooring down as I feel like it’s a better job and more solid. Would there be any disadvantages gluing down to a ply or chipboard sun floor and below that I have underfloor heating

    • @michaelbacile8439
      @michaelbacile8439 2 года назад +2

      (Pro wood floor installer for 14 years) no, the only thing I’d recommend is that you acclimate the planks to a higher temp than the ambient room temp. So if you keep your rooms at 75 I would acclimate the wood to a couple degrees higher before install. That’ll assure that you won’t get any weird expansion rates causing cupping or buckling when the floor heat kicks on

    • @mattgreen2398
      @mattgreen2398 2 года назад

      @@michaelbacile8439 thanks for your reply Michael I appreciate that a lot. At the moment I’m having the whole house done but the main work is downstairs which I still need plastering and all the heating is off . I was going to take all the flooring upstairs to acclimatise( as we are living there so it’s warmer upstairs and then when in a couple weeks when the plaster is on the walls and drying I can bring the acclimatised floor down and start fitting. Only thing I’m worried about is the wet plastered walls. If it’s not completely dry and it introduces moisture into the boards then I might have a problem. In turn experience how risky is flooring engineered oak flooring in a room that isn’t fully stable , no heating on and plastered walls. Or would you wait to fit finished floor when plastered has fully dried and the UFH on slightly ?

    • @michaelbacile8439
      @michaelbacile8439 2 года назад +6

      Oak in general isn’t very finicky when it comes to acclimation, Engineered oak is even more stable than solid oak. Still, every time I do a job I act like the customers house is mine until I’m done. In your case, if my house had wet plaster and other work being done I would still wait. As expensive as herringbone is, it’s not worth the risk even if you have a notably stable species of wood. You’ve come all this way remodeling, don’t get the wood in ahead of other trades. Floors should always be LAST just before touch ups and punch list.

    • @disgruntled4298
      @disgruntled4298 Год назад +2

      There only thing I would add to the other comments for engineered wood is to only glue three rows at a time, less mess when you tap them together and no risk of the top glue surface hardening by the time you lay. (Thirty years fitting all types of wood)

    • @MrHenkeeper
      @MrHenkeeper Год назад

      I’m a fairly competent DIYer and about to lay a herringbone in a bedroom with uneven floorboards. But I have a few questions having watched a few of these videos so bear with me… they might be daft but I’d rather ask a stupid question than cock it up!
      1. How do I deal with an uneven & moving (as in they flex when you walk on them) floorboards?
      2. Having addressed 1 (I’m assuming screwing then down) should I then lay ply down and if so what thickness?
      3. Should I glue?
      4. Or should I lay underlay?
      5. Will expansion gaps be needed for either option?
      6. Any other suggestions I’ve not considered?
      Thanks I’m advance RUclipsrs!
