Great video! We are remodeling a rental for quarantine and my 15 year old daughter watched the video and installed the flooring with the some help from her 14 year-old cousin. I didn't have time to watch the whole install, just wanted to say I'm glad you had the initial message about getting into a trade. People working minimum wage should really consider learning a skill, even people in their 30's or older.
I'm 30+ years removed from high school and feel that in today's internet age they should have a mandatory class that covers the various trades so it's a realistic option for those that have no intentions on going to college.

Thank you! You are well informed and easy to understand. My father is a carpenter but never has the patience to teach me :). After getting an estimate for over 5.6K to re-floor my upstairs, I decided to take it in my own handy hands!! This video is a $$$ saver.
I really enjoy watching your videos. Just wanted you to know, (if you were unaware) that laminate floors do not fluctuate like other flooring. On a scale of 1-10 on fluctuation it's a 0.01. The laminate has come so far now days and this is a common mistake. Just wanted you to know what I just found out. Not meaning to be a got ya moment. Just wanted to share what I just learned the other day. Please know I have the most respect for you and what you do. Your amazing.
Thank you, I appreciate you watching :). As far as the movements, I don't disagree at all, I like to look at each manufacturer notes. Since I am making a video, I don't want to say what I think. The manufacturer knows their product very well, so for good practice, I want to stay within the parameters. I am not sure how it will perform in other parts of the world. In Florida, I don't see much movements. The manufacturer recommends 5/16-3/8in for the expansion gap. On all sides, :/. Since I am doing it for a client/ my neighbor, I don't want it to come back and bit me.
@@DIYCreators you are right, always leave an expansion joint. Laminate is still a wood product, and it can still move. Heck, even a SPC Vinyl, which is polymer and limestone still needs an expansion joint even if it does not need to be acclimated. If you are a professional, you don't want to screw someone out of a warranty because you didn't want to follow the installation instructions.
This really helped me out! Your voice is so soft too, helped keep my head level with an overwhelming project! Thanks a bunch. My office is going to look awesome thanks to the help of this video!

Building my own tiny home. Don't have any experience. This was a well thought out and well put together video. Thank you. I'm doing this all the next three days.
A couple of points that I found helpful when I installed laminate flooring for the first time. I removed all of the baseboards and I numbered them on the back, I then made a sketch of the room and I wrote the number of the baseboard on the sketch in the position I removed it. This made it easier to reinstall the baseboards. My baseboards were stained and varnished oak and after 20 years they got scuffed up so I used this opportunity to refinish them. All I did was clean and lightly sand them and then I used a combination stain and varnish. When I used a jigsaw I purchased reverse cut blades. (blades that cut on the downstroke instead of the upstroke, this way the cut did not mar the finished side. I also purchase flooring that had the foam pad attached, less work not having to lay down a pad. On very long runs I used about 3 inches of duct tape to hold the boards together so they did not snap apart. Any area that the boards might come into contact with water (around the kitchen sink, under the dishwasher, bathroom, near exterior doors, etc.) I used waterproof glue so if they got wet they would not warp. They now have vinyl boards so I don't think the water damage is an issue if you use them.
I love laminate flooring because its more durable and scratch and dent resistant than vinyl. Sadly, LVPs are probably are still better for bathrooms due to the them being "waterproof" (some WPC LVPs can still be damaged by excessive water). Laminates require a little extra TLC for bathrooms because of that ambient moisture. Sealing those expansion joints at your tub/showers and the like. A good modern Laminate can be wet or steam mopped, but if water gets underneath it into the wood core, it will eventually damage it. That is a great suggestion for the baseboards, I will see if my installers do that, and if not suggest it. With nice wood baseboards like you had, pulling them is relatively low risk.. but for people who have cheaper mdf or plastic ones, they need to be pretty gentle or they may break. Those are more common in stick homes today.
Glad this was the first video in my search on how to do this. I have a lower level that needs the nasty ol' indoor/outdoor carpet removed and laminate is what I want to re-floor it with. Thank you for making a straight forward and easy video. You make it look easy anyhow.
Thanks man! I have 120 boxes of laminate and have been hesitant to get started on my own. This is the best video I've found on installation and has given me the confidence to get started. Thanks a million! However, guess I need to buy a miter saw.
Choosing the direction of the boards should also take into account where the light source of the room is. Boards should be placed along the light, since placing them perpendicular to the light will bring out any streaks left behind by mopping.
When I splice a piece of shoe in to make it longer I use a 22.5 miter cut, it's even less noticeable than a 45, and also on inside corners I run one piece of shoe flush with no miter cut all the way to the wall, and cut the other piece with a 45 and use a coping saw to notch out along that line where the bare wood and paint meet, makes for a better look, and makes cauking go alot faster.
Excellent video! I have been in construction 30+ years, you demonstrated and explained everything very well! A personal tip; when I installed my quarter round, use a thin piece of cardboard or similar spacer to allow the floor to expand/contract without touching the quarter round or toe board. It also allows the use of tape, or wide putty knife, under the quarter round if you need to paint it without touching the flooring.
I thought it wasn't obvious from the video but you need to put spacers on all sides... If some plaster has been laid (huge humidity changes), don't place the skirting yet, wait 2-3 weeks and see how it settles, you might need to cut again. And this one is also from my neighbour, don't glue them on the ground !! He bought some laminate floor with a hardwood top, he asked the seller if it was alright to glue them because he was resurfacing a tile floor... The seller said YES. Always check with the manufacturer if you're not 100% sure, the seller might never have worked with that exact product. What happens is that when the floor expands, weaker point will lift but the stronger areas will prevent the floor from expanding which will result in lifting. Most laminate floor have a print on the top which is covered by a thin layer to protect it; it's not wood, you can't sand it to restore it. If you want it too last, prevent scratches from chairs and furnitures by adding pads and if a blunt object falls and damages the surface, if you want to repair it put floor fill that is colour matched.
@Cleveland Indian Check where the floor is touching the wall after removing the baseboards and cut using a oscillating tool, wait for the floor to settle and check if you need to do it again. You might need to do it 2 or 3 times. I hope it isn't glued...
I've done this twice before and I place the boards in the room unwrapped for a few days to allow for some expansion before installing. Have never had a problem.
@@Egad You're absolutely right, it will settle at the right humidity and temperature, as a result the risk of expending after is much more lower. However depending on the work that has been done in the house, humidity might still change.
Fantastic job man! As an artist, I would say (in general, and second to laying it on the longest direction), is laying the boards in the direction of the main window, so that the daylight captures the perspective lines of the flooring (as you've done here).
Looks AMAZING!!! And thank you so much for showing a little girl with the wood. I'm so glad my Dad didn't think I couldn't work with my hands because I was a girl.
This is a very professional, efficient and careful explanation for the installation of laminated flooring. I have been designing in a flooring factory for more than 10 years, and I know the process very well.
You did a great job! I’m just learning projects to do around my house. When working with floating flooring, how do you ensure it won’t slip around? Do you ever nail or glue parts together or down? Thanks!!
I would seal that slab crack with self leveling concrete patch just because it's quick and easy. There's a tube of it that goes in a caulking gun. Great video. After hearing the comment about the 13 and 14 year olds doing it I'm pretty much shamed into trying.
So now, after 5 minutes of watching the video, you are ready to install a new floor for yourself or someone else, but don't get carried away. Better not try because you can easily lose your fingers, I worked for 30 years as a carpenter and on the bulletin board we wrote how many days have passed without anyone getting injured and usually 2-3 injuries happen a year to experienced people every day they use power tools and after 5 minutes of video you would get to work
Just tried this. I wouldn’t recommend that staggered staircase pattern at all. Random is the way to go. When you reach the end of each row and cut, use the cut piece that’s been cut to begin the next row.

Modern vinyl plank flooring now has the underlayment already on the bottom side of the planks, not only that but you don't need to cut them with a saw, you just score it with a razor knife and snap it (kinda like you do with sheetrock). I'm installing some lifeproof luxury vinyl plank flooring in a house now, it's wonderful. It's kinda pricey though, 3.79sqft, so it would cost about $550 in materials for a typical 12x12 bedroom, but the stuff is freaking durable and the way they lock together it's 100% waterproof.

Now I think I know how to do everything LOL.., WELL it's working. I'm saving allot on money. However, I'm wanting remove cream carpet and put hardwood flooring throughout my 1 st level. By watching your video i understood your process and will start my project in November. keep up the good work and Thank you for you sharing.
This is by far the most helpful video I’ve seen about installation. Thanks so freaking much for your breakdowns and clear explanations ❤️
Thank you for using quarter-round that matches the baseboards and not the flooring! I don't know who ever thought that matching the flooring is good look.
Been doing hardwood floors for 34years but I love laying laminate floors more than anything ❤
Dude....dude!!! Video came up in my search...All I can say is God Bless you! You're a wonderful teacher...clear instructions without unnecessary banter....straight to the point.... excellent craftsmanship
I've done a few floors myself. Your video is simple, easy to understand and will be a great help to lots of first timers. Great work!🎉
Great video! We are remodeling a rental for quarantine and my 15 year old daughter watched the video and installed the flooring with the some help from her 14 year-old cousin. The girls did a great job. My husband was there to help with some of the more difficult cuts. The house is about 750 square feet. All that's left to do is the transition pieces. Thanks for the video!
Pretty Darn great!!good job
I didn't have time to watch the whole install, just wanted to say I'm glad you had the initial message about getting into a trade. People working minimum wage should really consider learning a skill, even people in their 30's or older.
I'm 30+ years removed from high school and feel that in today's internet age they should have a mandatory class that covers the various trades so it's a realistic option for those that have no intentions on going to college.
Excellent presentation. As a person who has installed previously and has practiced finish trim work for over 40 years (or so), your presentation was JUST the right amount of instruction and demonstration. Thank you very much.
I'm 4 years old boy and I floored me whole house! Thanks you!
😂 fuck that was funny
Bruh
This is why I pay for internet😭
wow... I rehab apartment rentals and put this laminate floor EVERYWHERE. I sent this to all of my guys to show them the proper way to get a great finish product. Awesome work.
I’m a 45yr old man and after watching this, I’m gonna let the contractors do the floors. 😂
Same 😂😂😂
It’s actually pretty easy. I did an entire 2400 sq ft house in just a few days! You’ll need a table saw and a chop saw…
This video is an excellent guide for beginners looking to install laminate flooring! The clear, step-by-step instructions make the process easy to understand, even for those with no prior experience. I appreciate how you covered everything from the initial preparation and necessary tools to the actual installation and finishing touches. Thanks for creating such a comprehensive and user-friendly tutorial!
Thank you so much. My dad was a construction worker and showed me how to do a lot of stuff but since I have moved to Belgium I dont have easy access to dad cause of time zone difference and work hours.
I appreciate the video and clear instruction
Big shout out to CAULK!!!! Always there to cover up my imperfections 💥💥💥 my girl is like wow it's perfect😁
All women love a good caulk
In glue and dust
I put my trust
And for the rest
There's alway caulk
I’m sure your girl knows all about caulk as well
I’m so glad this was in my recommended! My mom and I are trying to decide how to redo our gross 80s stick on vinyl to something else and this seems very doable
Hey thanks for the video! I've done construction all my life but I've never installed laminate flooring. But, just like you, I'm going to install a laminate floor for a friend of mine. Your presentation was clear and easy to follow. What I liked most was your calm, can-do attitude. I'm sure I'll be hearing your voice as I do this job! Thanks!
I have to say that this is the first diy video on flooring that the guy actually knew what he was talking about.I have been doing all types of flooring for forty years and I'm impressed.100% my friend.Keep up the good work.I also like your woodworking vids.
This is the best video I have ever seen to lay flooring for a beginner. Thank you so much. Very well done!
I’ve watched a lot of videos on RUclips. And I really find it hard to watch some videos based on the verbal description I am receiving in the video editing that was presented. I can say hands-down without a doubt I love every video you’ve ever done your descriptions are on point in your video editing is fantastic it’s simple and it’s concise and directly to the point. If there was a nomination for RUclips videos. I would do my utmost to help you become number one. I love all of your videos keep going man
This is perhaps the best video on wood floor installation I’ve come across. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. So much help! Thank you!
My brain: That's easy, no big deal.
My hands: You come down and do it!
🤣🤣🤣
Knees and back: why did I ever install this floor myself?
😂😂😂😂
Lmaoo 😂
Squat & definitely have knee pads. Don’t bend & do take breaks.
Good demonstration on the installation. I am a floor installer myself detail was very important and you nailed it.Not many floor mechanics show or other professions show that 🙋🏼
Thank you so much for this video. I’ve watched many over the past 6 months while I my supplies sat in my garage. Your video gave the the confidence to try. I just finished my first bedroom closet. Now onto the rest of the house!
Very Impressive
I love this. I've watched several videos and I've noticed all the others had so many gadgets that I'm sure we're not cheap, spacers and other tools. This video showed how I can cut my own spacers instead of buying fancy expensive ones as well as not needing other fancy tools. I'm on a tight budget and I appreciate this.
The best teaching video out there. Thank you for keeping it simple & easy to understand..
Thanks for watching!
Wow, this was really informative, now hubby and I just need to pray to get a house so that we can do this to
I’ve watched maybe 15 videos and you made it the absolute simplest for me. All the others get way too technical for such a simple DIY home improvement project. Thank you!
I'm updating a room in my mom's home, now that's she passed. It was so over due &she hated that room. I'm making it my office. And I wanted a light colored floor because this room has great lighting. Watching this tutorial took all my worries away. Floor going down right now. Thank you, I'm hooked!! New subscriber to your Chanel. Again thank you!
Nicely done. Great tips too. I love to see the finishing touches to make it right.
Didn't expect to see you here, lol!
4 hours of work. That will be 2000$ dollars sir 🙂
IDK WHY SOME PEOPLE DISLIKE THIS, THIS GUY IS A WOOD GENIUS
They just mad cause he's good at what he does. Sometimes jealously causes people to dislike others for no solid reason.
@victoria brown Thanks !
are you new to the world? We have 7 BILLION people. There will always be people that dislike someone. Just because.
Hey man I’m a floorlayer and I like watching these videos just to learn a new thing everyday I just wanted to let you know aswell that you could use a spray adhesive for the underlay on the ends and through the middle it’s sticks perfect and it provides and extra layer underneath!
Great idea...what do you use.?
@@woodfloorsjohnny hey sorry for the late reply I use (no nonsense spray adhesive)
Jeff from Home Renovision has saved me on so many projects but this is by far the best video I’ve ever seen for installing LVP. Sooo informative. I appreciate it my guy!
Me watching him using tools i never heard of while I only have a hammer,a kitchen knife, and screwdriver 👁👄👁
At least you have hammer. All I have is a kitchen knife, fork & spoon. I’m in desperate need of a steak knife for this project 🤷🏾♀️
I'm screaming loooool
Rock lee👋
Jaron you got me dying. You a fool. 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
Call someone 😂
@@DIYCreators makes complete sense. Great job as always
@@DIYCreators great explanation -- always follow manufacturer recommendation.
Never done a floor install before, but after watching this through I fell A LOT more confident in doing it now. Great video! Thanks!
I learned to peel forward with a pry bar. When you pull it, it tends to rip out chunks of the bare concrete floor.
This really helped me out! Your voice is so soft too, helped keep my head level with an overwhelming project!
Thanks a bunch. My office is going to look awesome thanks to the help of this video!
You did a wonderful job there! I'm going to laminate a room in my house soon, and watching your video gave me some great tips! Thanks! and best regards from England!
Man this was in my language..."Laminate flooring for dummies". Thank you very much.
Watching this just reinforced the idea that I need to hire a pro. I couldn't possibly do this and have it look this good.
Same here
I have watched hundreds of flooring videos, this was by far the most helpful!
Thank you :)
23 years in flooring here. I thought it was well done too.
thank you for the right word, I kept hearing "Corter Ryan" and I couldn't figure it out.
He did an awesome job and explained everything perfectly..
Nice work! Good to see someone who’s a perfectionist rather than slapping things together
Have to give ya props! Not only did you do a great job, but your video, in my opinion, was one of the best I've seen.
All of the dads are coming here for the quarantine
Fuck I'm 17😬😬
And the mums👍
you ain’t lying lol
yup im that dad lol
Damn right lol
I’m a teenager doing laminate flooring for my neighbor so I need this as a refresher lol

This is a very professional, efficient and careful explanation for the installation of laminated flooring. I have been designing in a flooring factory for more than 10 years, and I know the process very well.
工宝机丁 not really
You did a great job! I’m just learning projects to do around my house. When working with floating flooring, how do you ensure it won’t slip around? Do you ever nail or glue parts together or down? Thanks!!
This is one of the best videos I have seen on this topic. The 16M views is well deserved. Thanks!
Nicely done, I think after watching this, I'll attempt this in an upstairs bedroom. Thanks for your time.
It's not complicated but requires whole lotta patience that frats like me do not have any more. good job TU
I learnt a lot in this video! Never would I have thought I’d be interested in this but here I am!
I would seal that slab crack with self leveling concrete patch just because it's quick and easy. There's a tube of it that goes in a caulking gun.
Great video. After hearing the comment about the 13 and 14 year olds doing it I'm pretty much shamed into trying.
Been watching a lot of these videos. This is the BEST of all! Thank you for explaining so well!
Yup thats how i install all my LVT and LVP
Did floors for 25 yrs. Definitely never ever stair case your floor. All you're doing is making weak spots and squeaky floors.
Absolutely agree.
Joey Parm did the guy in the video staircase it?
@@joeyparm9887 what is the best way to do it? I'm wanting to do it for the first time so would appreciate the help?!!
He starts by sweeping.
Me: I got this!
He proceeds.
Me: Awwww what?
LOL I swear that's my exact reaction.
Such a joke! Look at those joints... so amateur...
One, you have a perfectly toned voice to do those sleeping audio apps. Very relaxing. Two, why does this task look so easy?! Three, can I call you when I mess up?! I’m a hands on learner lol 😅
Dude.... Perfect... You explained it very well!
U shouldn't get any thumbs down! Guess they don't understand it 😀thanks for video and talking time to do it ! U the MAN👍
Hopefully this will help me with my floors. Paying someone is way too expensive and I want all the carpet out of my house. I’m willing to do the work since you make it seem achievable. I hope my floors turn out this beautiful 😊
I watched the whole video. Seen several, this was good. I'm going in.
How did it go?
@@ellesbelles77 I can say I did it and I can say I will never do it again. Not all of us were meant to build fix install. Oh and I had to phone a friend. He does this for a living.
I'm FLOORED by this great video tutorial! Cheers from Sweden!
Instructions unclear. I did this in my neighbor's house while they were gone and now I have to go to court for breaking and entering.
😂
He doesn't have a clue... It's no different from tiling your bathroom. You start from a datum/chalk line and cut the outer-edges. Never start from a corner!!! Biggest nuub mistake across several building proffessions... Watching this made me chuckle.... Useless advice from start to finish.

This definitely gives me more confidence to diy, thxs! I didn't know it could be that easy.
Love watching a professional that is passionate about his work. Amazing craftsmanship!
