Have used plastic spoons (Tea or Dessert as airflow needed) cut as scoops on many planes, and the foam hole needs to be the full size available and angled to divert the airflow smoothly (Shaped and smoothed with soldering iron). Also the exit needs to be bigger in area than the input to avoid restriction as warm air expands!!
Hi Lee Great video and review of the HeeWing Ranger. I really like this one, I just finished my AR Wing Pro. I watched your video on INAV and it was great. But I really like how easy this is to Launch. I think that your antique is a perfect way to have it. I think I just found my next airplane. Thanks again for the video and information on this FPV Airplane.
I just finally finished a heewing t1 ranger digital build on iNav 5.10 and wanted to thank you for the plethora of iNav and Heewing t1 ranger content... I used a Matek F405 WTE with built in ExpressLRS for my build,. Mounted the vista the way you've done. I chose this way to do it so that it could remain free for mounting the runcam thumb and 360go2. Everything is working great with a 2600mah high discharge 3s Li-Ion battery that I have set close to the nose in the fuselage. ^_^ The vista does not overheat and has top performance even at 1200mw, I found there was plenty of airflow after cutting a vent hole! The new fuselages have holes cut already in the camera area. Oh, and I used the caddx nebula pro nano which fits brilliantly just perfect in the camera spot. This is my first fixed wing and I have watched your channel for years but never dove into the world of airplanes. I'm hooked! Thanks for all of the tips.
Fantastic, Lee! Thanks a lot for all the tips! 😃 I have a good amount of that tape here and I use it for a lot of stuff! It's pretty bulletproof! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Nice looking wing and setup. I didn't even notice your mods until you mentioned you added them. I think that wing would work well with ELRS and a 1W HDZERO vtx! I'll add that to my summer list!
cool two motors i love this configuration, if i see this video before i take it than the HK radjet 800.. (but is ok.. i have a phoenix 2000 v2 to put dji in after.. and the radjet are ok for fpv ) but one question (another): the weight please? with a 3s lion? thank you!
Nice overview of your set up and your channel as a whole is super helpful and valuable. I’m not 100% sure but is the front camera mount/vent on backwards? Looks like airflow could be further improved if it was flipped around.
Is it possible to reverse prop rotation ? 8:00 looks awfully wrong to me even though factory manual found is exactly like your set up. In a very unlikely event of single motor failure on either side will give uncontrollable yaw. Right wing prop is typical single engine setup and it gives left turning tendency. Its location only makes it worse.
Thanks for the help! Did you end up using the HEEwing PDB or just bag it and wire straight to the ESCs? And did you wire separately to M1 and M2 or use a Y-connector? Still building but looks like control on motors is not even with a Y-connector so was thinking might be better using separate signal wires.
Great video. Really appreciate the detail. Will you recommend this or the atomrc fly fish as the first plane? I have been flying drones for quite some time but want to get into planes.
Hi Lee, love the video's - you have helped me so much in understanding quads etc BUT ... how are you wiring the motors and servos in your T1 to the flight controller - any chance of some more detain (I'm totally new to planes and fell out of my comfort zone - and have been out of the hobby for way too long) thanks Steve
Elevator to the elevator (stabilised pitch) output leave rudder empty, I used the y cable for the LEDs for the ESCs so I could use one motor output and used the othe y cable to connect the Aileron to one of the stabilised roll outputs.. see my INAV for beginners series.. happy flying!
Great stuff as always! Thanks Lee! One question: as you don’t have diff thrust, I presume you had to join together your ESC signal wires to make it work like a single motor config; correct? Cheers!
Hello! Answer two questions please. Is it true that the signal wires from the two motors are connected independently to S1 and S2, respectively, but are controlled synchronously? Why do you have a servo 6 (rudder) configured for output 5, although it is not present in the design of the model?
@@Painless360 Thank you! Do the motors rotate in different directions? more precisely, will it be necessary to change the wires of the motors to ESC, due to the fact that they have a common signal (and I will not be able to configure this in inav). I'm sorry, this is my first experience with inav and an airplane.
I built almost the same setup using Matek F765 and ready for the maiden. The quistion I would ask Is how low on voltage with the 18650 pack before the caddx Vista will drop out? There is lots of videos showing the build but not the Inav setup so thank you.
Thank you for the video. I have a question. Can HEEWing Ranger T-1 be flown with only one brushless motor working? (in case one of the two motors fails during flight). Does only one motor have enough thrust to fly safely? Regards.
I've never tried but from what I've seen of other twins when they lose one motor - it induces a huge yaw that needs all of the rudder to counter so often the issue isn't keeping up airspeed but more of stopping it from yawing into a flat spin.
@@Painless360 Ok Thank you!. So a test should be done in order to know if the rudder has enough authority to compensate the yaw and still have control of the aircraft.
@@Painless360 Got it, thanks. I was also confused about the ESC connectors from the two motors. I have not yet tested this, but I removed the red lead from each ESC and connected the ground's to 'G' and data leads of the ESC's to S1 and S2. Hope that's right.
Quick question; Can the LED's on this model be put on a switch instead of on the LED output on the F411WSE? Because I don't have enough UARTS I want to have HDzero on UART1, ELRS on UART 2 and gps on softserial 1... Which is on the LED pad, so can no longer use that. Is there any way i can get it to work?
If you have the PNP version that has the addressable LEDs then they will only light if they receiver valid colour data so a switch won't make any difference. If they are the static LEDs used in the KIT version then you can use something like a MenaceRC switch to control them from a spare PWM port..
@@Painless360 I saw your video on setting the softserial on the f411WSE aswell. There is one thing I did not quite understand about the firmware though, can i in Inav set a different softserial RX port than LED pin? E.g. a servo output that i don't use? Or is this not possible in Inav?
That FW is specifically for that instance and remaps the LED pin so you can use it in that way for something like the DJI OSD. Resource remapping isn't something that is easy in INAV..
Hello.I have the pnp version and I am building it with an f411 wing. I would like to ask why for the escs except from the signal and ground they have a 5v wire?
The 5v wire from the ESCs is to power things like a reciever. The flight controller you're using does that so the 5v from the ESC isn't needed.. Happy flying
hi, i have a problem again this time inav is not able to comunicate with my accelerometer. the gyro indicator at the top is gray and the accel one is red. i have alredy tried changeing settings in the sensors and busses under the configuration tab but it didnt change anything
also from what i can see this only happens on the software for the dji fpv ost wich is designed to work with the matek f411 wse and im using the f411 wte because its suposed to be a substitute.
I think the WTE uses a different target. I'd check what it came loaded with and look at the INAV target detail for it on the Matek website... best of luck
Do you think an F405 Wing FC would fit in this plane? Thinking about building one and have a spare one here. No DJI so would be analog and a runcam split.
@@Painless360 I'm big on mission planning. I know there is not much payload to work with but hoping to slip a drop mechanism into the bottom fuselage around the CG. Or just be a fun learning platform.

Probably. However without a rudder a zero throttle glide back to the landing strip may be the best bet!
