It always impressed me how clean it was and is still considered Rock and Roll. Pretty much almost a natural guitar tone with no effects and a good strat will get u there.
Marty should be inducted to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The breakdowns in all the songs are great and help old guitar players get playing better and enjoying music again. Thanks Marty!!
He really should. He knows how every player actually plays the tune, a literal living encyclopedia of Rock, and his contributions to Music Education are nothing less than godlike.
You are one of the best guitar youtube channels, you can break down any song that sounds challenging and make it easy to learn, i have used your videos to learn countless songs, thankyou
Great lesson, down to the point and very well displayed. Others spend too much time describing note by note and makes it very difficult to follow. Thanks
Starting to learn to play guitar. Will definitely be using both of your channels to learn. Would like to see you do a lesson for Blue on Black sometime in the future. Thank you for what you do Marty.
Thank you very much for this lesson, Marty. I'm in my late 40's and started learning guitar a couple of years ago. It's been a bit slow going and this song is one I've really wanted to learn. Thanks again.
Out of all the people who put out guitar videos, you're the one who gets closest to sounding like Mark Knopfler when you're playing. I'm very much impressed.
Marty just played the song plain anf simple he left out all of the details for example the rakes he was explaining. and also kopfler played with fingers not a pick and he amde it look easy (it is not)
Thank you very much for this lesson!!!!! This song is my very favorite song when i heard it for the very first time back to the 80's i wanted to be a guitarist and because of this sound of Mark Knopfler i descover rock music !!!! I try so many times by my own, to finger out the chords but always something missing . I try many video lessons time to time... but i am not satisfied but you Mr. Marty Music you are the best !!!! Thank you again !!!! Respect !!!!
There is so much going on in this song but my favorite is the little lick at 8:20. There is something about the grove and clean guitar tone of this track that captivates people.
Marty! You should have a "merch" section of your website. If you sold a shirt with a picture of your face on it like the Heisenberg shirts from Breaking Bad, I'd totally buy it.
Thank you a million Marty, I’ve followed you for about a decade now and this is my late uncles favorite song. I’m learning it for him and I know you’d have a lesson on it.
Its amazing to me how I just got my guitar last year, thinking I'd never get to a point where I could play a song like this, and now because of this beautiful man I'm about halfway to nailing this song!!! thank you so much Marty
Awesome song, I've been wanting to learn this for a while now, but was intimidated by the solos! Request: Lyin' Eyes by the Eagles (I know the chords, but would love it if you could show us how to incorporate the various licks present throughout the song)
I just noticed I wasn't already subscribed to your channel, Marty. I quickly corrected that previous mistake. You call Mark "The Master" and he is surely one. But so are you!
Thank you Marty! You are awesome! I really appreciate all you’ve taught me. Your teaching style is second to none! I’ve learned more from you in the last two weeks than I was able to learn from a teacher that I paid hundreds of dollars to, for one on one lessons. Love you Man!
Hey Marty! Just wanted to say great job and thank you for all the videos! You have made learning the guitar a lot of fun, i have just started but after a couple weeks following your videos im already playing with amazing rythm! Thanks again and keep up the great work!!!
Its a complex rhythm really, in that it partially imitates flamenco strumming. Beat one: Thumb on the bass string Followed by index finger sliding down the strings vertically. The slide should end on the start of beat 2. On the end of beat 2 the index finger tugs at the strings from top to bottom. on beat three the thumb hits the bass string (or the contrabass string if you wanna embelish the bass section more) and on beat four the middle finger just strums the chord. I hope i described it correctly
I find the easiest way is to listen to the song, really know the song, hear it and feel it until it comes naturally, beats trying to follow all the up down down up chucka stuff.
@@4stevio If it works for you, stick at it. For me Ive found I learn better when I combine my natural feeling and understanding of a song (technically speaking) with some kind of accurate articulation of the technique. Just to make sure I dont miss stuff.

True! I uploaded a cover of this about a month ago. Not as good as this though haha.
Yeah hard song to play
Yeah it is
Made to look easy anyway
As a beginner, I find the facility of changing chords or even switching between strumming and picking quite impressive. Thank you for simplifying it!
The greatest song of all time (my opinion)

The Martin Marquis seem only to come in the acoustic guitar style--or are they the same for electric guitars?

I do this all the time with his videos 😂
Thank you Marty for this lesson! I'm looking forward to the lead-guitar lesson! Please make more lessons of songs from Dire Straits!!!
Not a guitar player, drummer, but I just stopped by to appreciate the breakdown. I frequently drum to this song and obviously love the guitar.
It's so simple if u know all your chords ,yet so masterful and beautiful
I hope that more Dire Straits come.
super stoked for the solo lesson
