This is a great film for woman carrying child to see, great pick guys 🙂
Literally just walked out of this movie, went on RUclips, saw the video, remembered what Nadia's going through and was like oh no....
😂🫣🫠
@@womancarryingman For the record I really liked the movie!
With regards to the digital resurrection, the director said in an interview that they didn't have the idea to bring him back until after he died, and therefore did not have his permission.
“The whole thing started with me calling the estate and talking with his widow,” Álvarez says. “She felt that Ian was given the cold shoulder by Hollywood in the last years of his life, that he would've loved to be part of more projects after The Hobbit, but he wasn't. So she was thrilled about the idea of having him back.”
I hope his widow also got royalties for this
Even if approved by family, Ian Holm can't consent to cgi necromancy at the end of the day, nor could Christopher Reeve or Peter Cushing. AI is still in its infancy but if corporations are digging up graves for fanservice now, imagine what they might do later.
Also for the record, the premise of the scene was cool but increasing the temperature in one sealed off room then opening two massive doors on either side of it would almost immediately drop the temperature in that room again by a substantial margin ☝️🤓
Ha good point!!
Hey, don't ruin my slasher experience with your darn logic and facts! 😢
I figured they increased the temp on both sides of the door as well
@@jonyele8186 yeah thats also how I explained to myself
However, being in temperature that matches that of our body (even if its just the skin, which is a bit colder than our insides) isnt very pleasant and leads to sweatting which would then again attract the facehuggers...
Yeah, I caught that one too... Honestly, the science was all over the place...
I really enjoyed it. Just a fun, straight up slasher flick with standout performances from Cailey and David. 8/10
I wouldn't normally say anyone needs to see Alien Resurrection, but not having seen it means you missed out on seeing how much the second ending of Romulus just directly lifted from the end of Resurrection. I genuinely enjoyed the film a lot, but the fan-service was so egregious I will 100% be re-editing it when I get my hands on the Blu Ray.
I liked the elevator sequence too, but thinking about it after the fact, having a mode of transport in your space station that specifically relies on gravity to work when said gravity can just be turned off seems like a significant design flaw.
I was thinking that too. I kinda wish they'd left that second ending out.
Considering how much Resurrection was a failure I'm fine with Romulus reusing that idea. Especially since it was much more effective here.
SPOILER COMMENT
Haven't watched the video yet, but I gotta say I loved it, BUT return of Rook as a talking character so obviously didn't fit with the rest of the movie. Like it was blatantly obvious to me how he could've not been in the script at all. I would shocked to learn he was always intended to be in the movie from the start, he feels like he was forced in by studio interference for the sake of having a familiar face.
Also the entire theatre giggled when Andy said "Get away from her..." then groaned when he said "you bitch." It felt so out of character lmao.
it was very disney-fied for real
I thought it was a terrible movie. It just didn’t work for me AT ALL. It’s so all over the place trying to be too many things and doing none of them WELL.
Either Ian Holmes or Fassbender. If Ian Holmes is still alive i would prefer him.
Also, Rook reference Prometheus with the leitmotif from that movie. Fassbender would be fitting in that scene
Seeing this pregnant must be like some next level 4DX experience. Kudos! 😂
I actually really fell in love with this movie! It was one of those rare occurances that I felt the fun and satisfaction of watching a classic. I thought the story telling was so intelligent with them foreshdowing and referencing things that come into play later.
The final section was kind (kind of, since they are not exactly the same) a homage to Alien Resurrection. Something really similar happens in that movie.
The final act pulled a lot from Prometheus and Resurrection which I thought was cool.
It also looks like a cross with the Space Jockey from Prometheus.
Fefe said in an interview that the first thing he did after they had the idea for Ian Holm was to contact the family to get their approval and they were all in and said that he would have accepted if he was alive. Also, they didn’t use AI for the voice, but they got an actor.
Great review as always!
I love how well this tied in with Prometheus and Covenant, it felt like it really bridged the gap between the prequels and Alien. It felt like the climax of that trilogy even though its a new cast of characters.
When I left the cinema I was angry. I got so bored and frustrated by the lack of characters and all the repeated ideas. It’s a wasted opportunity. It starts well, world stuff. The main 2 are fine. The rest of the cast… forgotten already. Extremely frustrating. (Play Isolation and Bloodborne dlc )
they played it too safe again
Provided the Michael Fassbender Walter/David android model, i get it. Also, Lance Henrikson was the android in Aliens so i can see the thought process on utilizing Ian Colm instead since Romulus predates Aliens.
I love this review!
I loved it. At least top 3 alien film weve gotten.
Respect to tge movie for having a character named andy the android
I mean Lance Henriksen (bishop) is still alive. They could have used the money they used to digitally resurrect Ian Holmes to de age him or something surely?
They did. It was pointless.
or literally just cast someone else
Just like in Alien: Romulus, the end of this video had a good jumpscare.
To be fair to Nadia, I haven't seen Aliens in a while either, I just remember I liked it just fine the first time (scared the shit outta me)... Actually, no, this movie is in no way better than Aliens, what the fuck? 🧐
Nadia got a 4D experience of the climax.
People would say this film has a lot of fan service. But since Fede is a massive fan himself, I wouldn't say that. I would say it's a high scale fan directed film. If you played Alien: Isolation you know what I mean. The director said he loves that game, and you see it in the film
Be careful of that kid growing inside you. Stay away from alien pathogens huh?
deepfake ian holm--regardless of the ethics--looked atrocious and ripped me right out of the movie. If they fix that my opinion of this movie would increase immensely.
(Spoiler) I thought Isabela Merced’s character was pretty much unconscious when they rescued her and were discussing using the black injection and ultimately decided against it. How did she know what they were for without anyone telling her? She didn’t meet Rook until after she had already done it, so it wasn’t him. Unless I’m missing something
if you thought the pregnancy stuff in this movie is bad, you should watch AVPR. the stuff it does with pregnant people in that is even creepier.
Ian Holm's estate, his widow in particular, consented and were shown rough cuts prior
I can see this movie freaking a pregnant woman out (in a good way?) so, it will hit them different than some dude or even a random alien fanboy. Love the channel and wish you guys the best in the future. Love watching your work.
The acid will go towards the walls even in zero grav, the bottom is not the only vulnerable section. Thats stupid.
I didn't care for most of the cast, but what bothered me most was the beat down of fan service. I was so frustrated by the end of this movie.
From the uncanny valley CGI to bring back a character, the out of character lines that were simply pulled from previous films, to recycling the climax of Resurrection with the New Born...I was just depressed by the end of this, with the thought that all we have left is to recycle even the bad ideas.
loved ths film own allofthemexcept alien 3 perfect entry that goes between alien andaliens
9out of 10for me stupid waylon andthose engibeers kk
SPOILERS
Apparently Iam Holm's estate and widow approved use of his likeness in the film
Eh... Still why do it? It's not even the same android, and it established already that androids in this universe have different faces...
Honestly, his family shouldn't have cash on his likeness after his death, they are all well off and he is dead, let him rest, ffs
The digital ressurection of Ian Holm was not needed and it just stains the movie. Hopefully a law or something gets made in the near future to stop film studios from deepfaking actors who did not agree to that.
I would go further, every fan service thing this movie has wasn't needed. It's like the studio, suits, filmmakers didn't believe that this movie could stand on its own.
If they wanted to bring back his likeness, they should've made an animatronic. He's a robot, make a robot
@@alexholden2512 i think they did make a robot but they they did a crappy deepfake on top of it that looks atrocious
Glad you mentioned the digital resurrection i hate that and will wait to stream this movie instead of going to theaters
I refuse to even stream it. Since I discovered that this character has a screen time not small, I understood that it was time to boycott the film. And I Love Alien! But if majors start to resurrect the actors in this way (and whether the actor or is family agrees with it or not, does not change my opinion) thinking that the public will be fine well, I hope they wake up with a bad surprise.
This surprises me a lot and I wonder what the hell the strike of last year was for if, in the end, the actors are literally resurrected anyway?
@@one_bad_day im with you there. I also dislike it even if the family or actor were ok with it
@@one_bad_day The movie is expected to make a hundred million dollars with a budget of eighty million
@@mid-sizesedan488yeah... on its opening weekend. Not bad at all.
This is what i call timing
0:32 - The term you're looking for is midquel.
Heh, mid.
Oh no...
I love getting a pregnant womans perspective on this film. I wish I could Have watched it w a pregnant person to get their reaction
I actually liked that they had Ian Holm, they reached out to his family and got the ok for his use, I find that kind of thinking pretentious, if the family says this is something he would've loved doing & they gave the team the ok to use his likeness & the way they nailed it & how it would make sense in this world that they'd have an Ash like Droid at that time. I loved that they honor him in this film
Bruh seeing the cartoon Peter Cushing in the theater when Rogue One came out made that film instantly irredeemable. Doing these 'resurrections' is insanely disrespectful and offensive. If an actor passed during shooting and you need to fill in what they didn't shoot yet? That's one thing. But in cases like this and in Rogue One, where it's completely unnecessary, it's just awful. Always call it out, it should hurt the reputation of a film more than it earns in fan service to pull that kind of thing.
I really don't think there's any good reason to do this.
I don't understand why Hollywood has become so damn scared of just recasting, like what has happened for forever.
If you really think a specific actor was that vital for a role, how is digitally puppeteering their dead body a way of honoring that?
2010? Evil Dead remake came out in 2013.
Also the reason why Andy said the famous line from Aliens (in the context of this film) is, because Bjorn (the one in the bandanna) would say, “bitch” a few times in his sentences, so Andy picked it up from him to say in that moment where he confronts the Alien.
I liked the movie, but the more I think of it the less I like it XD
I HATE this movie lol 😆 My wife LOVES it!! 😂 My favorite Alien movies are Prometheus & Covenant lmfao 🤣 I know, I'm sorry 😅
This franchise is kinda just schlock after the first two films. It’s like they’ve given up on trying to make another masterpiece. Production is high end but the writing just isn’t up to snuff.
I honestly believe any expansion makes the original Alien less interesting. These movies could still be good in their own right but so much is explained away now.
Is it a man carrying a woman or a man-carrying woman? A man-carrying thing or a man carrying a thing? I NEED ANSWERS
Rook didn’t bother me because of Ian Holm has passed away. It bothered me because 1) it was so poorly done and 2) could have been animatronic and 3) there was no need to have Rook be like Ash.
It is better than aliens, aliens = a good action flic, a bad alien movie. But it isn't even close to the original. Best way to describe it; Alien Romulus: _when executives destroy everything good about a movie._
Lol, no.
When she said she liked it more than Aliens ....could not watch anymore sorry lol
They could brought back the Marines. They could have, and they didn't. What a shame. That and why did they frame the alien who saved her in the elevator shaft like a hero?
The marines are so overused in video games and would combine well with horror elements only in hands of a very, very talented director, so glad they didn't bring them back and went Alien: Isolation route instead.
@@KenTWOu I mean I get what you're saying, but if you're going to force in the line like "Get away from her you B#$%^" and take the time to bring back an Ash look a like, then least you can do is show something Marine related other than saying their name.
fan service the movie. looked great and cailee spainey is great but literally every sequence and memorable line in this is lifted from every other movie in the alien series, right up to prometheus. not bad but very disappointing because it's not even trying to be it's own thing but remind the audience of the films they already know and love
