All that can be said respectfully is the few times fisheries are able to catch people outside the rules of sustainable fishing, is they are doing an important job. Without that help we will lose the strained resources that remain. The fishery has changed in my lifetime and NZ had only 1.3 million population when I was young. If you don't like these conditions return to your home country? If NZ is home, follow the rules.

The problem of people breaking fisheries regulations in New Zealand is multisided sided. People in our parliment making hard to understand (for the public) fisheries law. Plus over complex commercial fishing laws. Fisheries officers not distributing leaflets, paper, "current" rules & regulations to each & every person they stop & doing the same at boat shows fishing contests & fishing tackle shops is a cause of problems. A few dollars on a PAPER (with a set expire date on said leaflet) A leaflet could save thousands in enforcement costs! An over reliance on digital online fisheries information that IS NOT ACCESSIBLE to many of the people who fish! (And fails to cover important variations in some fisheries law) People do lose respect for all fisheries law when it is not easy to understand & is not distributed in a way that everyone can access! In November last year I walked down to a popular local Kahawia fishing rivermouth asking people if they new the limit.....on the KY? No one knew for certain & a few that got it right admitted to it being a guess! I was fishing myself & clearly not a fisheries officer so no threat to anyone so had no problems asking.... There are many people on some beaches & boat ramps claiming to know bag limits with different ideas some of these people are claiming to be fisheries officers. It is no wonder there are problems. The blame is at the top with Government not making simple clear law & not distributing these laws to the public on paper. A requirement for all who fish to read & carry a paper outlining current up to date rules/law when fishing, could save a lot of the problems & costs of fisheries enforcement! Unless some thing is done the enforcement problems will grow with the lack of distubuted printed fishing law!

The Australasian snapper (Chrysophrys auratus) or silver seabream is a species of porgie found in coastal waters of Australia, Philippines, Indonesia, mainland China, Taiwan, Japan and New Zealand. Its distribution areas in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres are disjunct.[2] Although it is almost universally known in Australia and New Zealand as snapper, it does not belong to the snapper family, Lutjanidae. It is highly prized as an edible fish, with a sweet sea taste and a firm texture.
