    I own a 1800/2200 model and have used it several years for camping. By using an extended run tank and adapter I've run it 3 to 5 days non-stop. I've used high octane gas and non-ethanol recreational gas sometimes and in the end I've been very pleased with it. Fuel stabilizer.... no. That's ONLY meant for long term storage.

      Did you "plumb" a fitting in place, or run from your larger tank. I was thinking about making a gen/cart with a 5 gallon fuel tank bypassing the factory tank as you've done for a longer run time. Thanks for a shout back in advance.

      Same here, I’m a small engine mechanic and those carburetor tend to gunk on pump gas, before i put mine to storage, i replace the pump gas with a 110oz of true fuel ethanol free 92 octane from home depot, will run it for 30 minutes to clean the okd fuel out of the carb before i store it for winter..canned gas smells like aviation gas too👍

      Why go through the trouble and expense of using TrueFuel when it is easier and more effective to drain the float bowl, fuel line and tank? The fuel tank must be stored dry to prevent rust from condensation. This is the long term storage procedure in every small engine tool.@@camilo8cheryl

    There's *so much wrong* about this video...
    #1: Don't run ethanol fuel in your power tools/generator, stabilizer is good to use anyways if sitting for a period as all gas goes stale.
    #2: A starter is a nice feature, but adds significant cost and complexity and weight. Maybe even grow the unit's dimensions.
    #3: That's called a parallel box, not an inverter. The inverter *IS* built in to your generator, that's why it's called an *INVERTER* generator. And at this wattage, it should start most

      Agree, electric start is undesirable in generators with engines smaller than 300 cc. A toddler can pull start my 94 cc hand carry generator which has 2500 starting watts and 2200 running watts. Smaller lighter quieter and more powerful than this Ryobi which I believe is obsolete. Mine starts with half a pull after a year of storage because I drain the fuel system completely per the manual. Ethanol-free fuel is best but not available in many states unless purchased by the pint for$$$$$$. All generators have a carburetor float bowl drain. Failure to read the manual has consequences.

It's been in service for 3 years with multiple long outages every year. I would not buy less than 2200 running watts. Electric start is not desirable. Starts every time with half of a light pull if you don't leave gas in it to go bad. 94 cc is better than 80 cc. Champion is also good. Paying extra for dual fuel propane is unwise unless you have a home LP tank. BBQ LP cylinders freeze up in cold weather.

    If you leave gasoline in any generator for to long it will go bad and clog your carb. So it is not necessary to add the stabilizer to the gas every you add gasoline to it. It you are storing it for long period of time then yes and it is always good to drain the gas completely. I had the previous model ryi2200 and I ran this for hurricane Maria for 45 days and this was a life saver so I cannot complain.

    *SEAFOAM* . It stabilizes fuel up to 2 years along with keeping your engine clean. Also can be added to oil before an oil change to remove any buildup of deposits that cause performance issues. The stuff is phenomenal!, took my check engine light off my truck AND my mower doesn't smoke anymore!.

    • @mmesmer6447
      @mmesmer6447 8 месяцев назад

      Fuel additives are good for a vehicle simply because one can't easily drain the fuel system. Completely unnecessary and they add zero benefit over the storage procedure in the manual for small engines which can easily be drained as called for in the manual when storing > 3 months. Store completely dry of fuel with none left in the carburetor bowl, fuel line or tank. If anything add a stabilizer to a clean gas can prior to filling but not the equipment.
      Rotate your fuel. Put what isn't used within 90 days in the auto. Seafoam is primarily for removing water but there won't be any water when only fresh fuel is used.
      The engine doesn't need to "be cleaned". Seafoam residue will dilute the oil. Avoid. Change the oil per the maintenance schedule instead. Try keeping an oil drain tool kit box with the few things needed to maintain as above all in one place including fresh oil, an oil recycling container, and a drain pan. Small engines hold less than 500 ml of oil so only small capacity items are needed. Much easier than a car oil change. I've found that a small funnel with 8 " of clear tubing is perfect for adding oil. I fill a measuring cup first so there is no spillage.

  • @LivingFree365

    I can agree with the dislikes 2thru5 but not the first one. I've been using "Aspen 4" fuel in all my generators and I've never had a performance issue with any of them. My Ryobi RYI2300BTA sat in storage for 7 months and still started in two pulls. Stabilizers are used for storage. The performance issues with fuel are caused by using fuels (Gasoline) that have ethanol in them. The Ethanol acts like a sponge (Not to mention has salt in it) and absorbs moisture in the air and puts it in your tank and/or carb. Gasoline with ethanol evaporates and gets stale fast. Stabilizers are used to slow that process. Cheers Shu.

    -I used about half a bottle of Seafoam to restore my 2300 to proper operation once it began stalling under load. It took nearly the whole tank of fuel w/stabilizer before it ran reliable again. My first real test was running a sump pump in our flooded pool pit at the campground when a power outage flooded it. The 6" of rain we received saturated the ground water levels and kept pouring high water table into the sump basket so it was great to have 12 hours of generator operation on one tank as the pumping was for 20 seconds every 2-3 minutes.
    -My Ryobi 2300 started my 13,500 btu Coleman/Mach A/C without stalling but you could tell the locked rotor amps was a huge surge for a couple of seconds. However, it ran the A/C for 6 hours on one tank of fuel without issue solely without a second 2300 in place (This was after I learned the fuel stabilizer trick).
    -It would not start a neighbors 15,000 btu Coleman/Mach, but we upgraded his A/C with a Micro Air Easy Start and then there was not problem starting the 15,000 btu A/C with my single Ryobi 2300 and even had a much less hiccup than my 13,500 btu A/C unit.
    -I added an Easy Start to my 13,500 btu A/C and now the whole A/C starts quieter and my single Ryobi 2300 even will start it on ECO mode without stalling.
    -Overall I am pleased with my Ryobi 2300 and even used it overnight at a Casino to run our Furnace (on L.P.) when it was 26 deg F outside with 20 MPH strong winds as the RV fan blower takes a lot of current from our cold batteries. The Ryobi 2300 kept our batteries full and we made coffee in the morning before continuing our quick trip to Chicago (off-season where most RV parks were closed).
    -I added a tent to my Ryobi 2300 which has openings to allow for proper exhaust gases and fresh air intake while keeping rain and sleet off of it in windy conditions.
    -What I really dislike about my Ryobi 2300 is the labels that keep peeling off. Has anyone come up with a good solution to glue them back on so they don't peel back off when in storage in warm weather?
    Keep up the good work!
    Dave

    I’ve run my 5000 BTU AC simultaneously with my lighting and television in my teardrop camper with just (1) generator. I have the Ryobi 2200/1800 watt. Regardless of using a stabilizer or not, which I do anyway, the jet will eventually close. Until it does, it will narrow and you’ll notice a starting and running deterioration. Clean the jet with a thin wire and it will be restored like new. I used to have a Honda EZ 650 for nearly 30 years that acted the same. It was always a clogged jet. Better to run them dry, but who times their uses that way?

  • @flyboykfpr

    I have one of these generators and am very pleased with it, I disagree with the negative statements here. You can mount the parallel box between the two generators, the handle on the box is made to do that. The extending handle is low because it gives you better clearance when you are pulling it around. The wattage is what it is, if you want more then you buy a bigger, heavier, more expensive generator. You don't need a fuel stabilizer unless you are going to store it for a long time, then you can just run it out of gas and you don't need a stabilizer. It is easy to start, so unless you are very weak, you don't need to upgrade to the electric starter.

  • @wanderingsailor5503
    @wanderingsailor5503 9 месяцев назад

    I've worked at a small engine power equipment shop for over 10 years. It's simply not true that these generators will "bog down" and experience a loss of power when ran without stabilizer. They will run just fine. You'll only have issues if the fuel is left untreated for over 30 days. All small engines certified for sale in north America are designed to be able to run with up to 10% ethanol content. However, the presence of ethanol in fuel can cause fuel degradation past 30 days or in areas exposed to higher humidity and condensation. Ethanol is alcohol based and will bond with moisture in the air. When this occurs the ethanol and water will separate from the fuel in a process called phase separation. This leaves gel sediment compounds that collect in carbs and your tank which can clog the small main jet orifices of your carb. This is why most shops recommend to always use a stabilizer to help prevent this reaction from occurring. Although, most stabilizers out there does very little to prevent this issue and it's more snake oil than anything. Even if you disperse or prevent this reaction, gas does go stale and will lose some of its combustibility over time. So, it's best not to store fuel in your equipment over 30 days. Remember, most small engines only have one cylinder. If there's any obstruction in the fuel delivery process it won't run a damn. Your car has multiple cylinders which helps to facilitate things. For your generator, where you want fuel in there in case of emergency, only use an engineered fuel or what they call an Alkylate fuel when in storage. It stays stable for 5 years. fuel The only real solution is to use an engineered fuel or fuel that contains no ethanol content. It's a misconception that premium, high octane fuel contains no ethanol. That's only the case if it says so at the fuel pump and if confirmed by the staff at your station. We use Aspen 4 fuel at our shop which is an alkylate fuel.

    Number 4. True. It rattles like mad. I use a old leather glove under the handle and that stops the rattle. Now for the dirt part. It’s called a light coat of wd 40. The part of the push button start they the app. Would require a starter motor and a battery. That would push the generator weight up to 80 pounds. That is not the target market and I have never seen a 48 pound 1800 watt generator with push button start. And comparing it to a Honda that is double the price? Really! The thing about it not running a microwave is BS it does just fine. About running an A/C. True. But then none of the generators that size will. Just buy a micro air easy start for your A/C and 1 of those ryobi’s will do the A/C. I do agree the parallel kit needs a mount. Buy the way the Honda has a bigger motor I believe it’s over a100cc. The ryobi is like 89. All in all for $599 for one is pretty dang cheap. Honda over $1000. And still will not do A/C. Not worth the money to me. Please look and compare generators in the same price class and see they are all about the same. Pull start, will need gas adative at some point and will not have electric start.

      I have been running a portable generator 12 hours daily for about 2.5 years. (1000w sportsman). Monthly oil change, 6 month carb cleaning.
      You want ethanol treatment stabilizer every time you operate. It increases the fuel efficiency (8h to 12h in my case), it eliminates water from the ethanol (ethanol attracts water), and also allows for use in high humidity environments where the water vapors enter the system through the air. I also run Marvel Mystery Oil 20% mixed with oil and it keeps the internals clean which can be seen at oil change.
      You don't just want general storage fuel stabilizer, you want something rated for ethanol treatment. Hope that helps.

      Running it out of gas is a good thing before storage. You should use stabilizer if storing it with gas in it. If you're using gas with ethanol you should definitely get a the kind of stabilizer that counteracts the ethanol. It costs about eight bucks at Home Depot and a bottle will last a long long time! Definitely worth finding a fuel station that carries ethanol-free pure gas. Your generator will love you!

    3 things I didn't like about the video. 1 takes too long to explain each review point, the carry handle while not great only needs two sentences to explain. 2 the fuel, small engines or large engines have no differences in regards to fuel types. What makes the difference is carburetors. Plain and simple when ethanol blend fuels are stored for any period of time they absorb moisture and the carb to gets gummed up. The video totally skips over the fact the manual for this gen specifically says to drain fuel when stored for over a month and then the fuel is non issue (applies to all carb engines not ryobi specific). 3 the parallel setup, obviously not great but the main downfall is the lack of plugs on the generator itself and 120volt only. Overall the content in this video looks to be made by someone who spend less than 30 minutes using the generator and not something viewers would expect from a ryobi review channel. What I would like to see is a direct comparison between this and competitors, pros and cons of each and value for the money.

    I've been very pleased with this Ryobi. A couple things.
    I live in Hawaii and I run straight weight 30 oil.
    I also took out the fuel filter that comes with this gen set and fairly easily adapted a larger one designed for a power saw. And lastly the only problem I ever had with this gen set in terms of surging etc. Was when I ran fuel with ethanol. I cleared that easily by draining that fuel. Putting ethanol free fuel in and spraying carb cleaner directly into the fuel. The surging and stuttering quickly resolved itself. And I haven't looked back since.
    And I use zero fuel stabilizer. But Genset is used at least once a week
    So it doesn't sit around much. Two years and going strong. And have never found even the slightest hint of metal in the oil.
    And last but not least
    Always. When you get one of these notice that it's very basic cable set up from Choke/Run/Stop switch to the carburator. Make the adjustment to ensure in the choke position that the setting at the carb is completely closed. Simple.
    I found the "dislikes" pretty petty in this review. All these things have cheapo fittings and pot metal.
    If you accept that going in you work with it.😂

      If you are not overloading it and it's shutting off on you try turning off the auto idle. Auto idle will idle it too low for certain things like a 5000 or 6000 watt window AC unit or coffee maker to kick on. If you're trying to run a 12,000 or 15,000 BTU RV AC unit, STOP DOING THAT IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE THIS GENERATOR IS NOT BIG ENOUGH FOR THAT MANY BTUS! IT WILL RUN A 900 WATT MICROWAVE IF YOU ARE ONLY RUNNING THE MICROWAVE! You can Google BTU conversion charts to show you how to convert your BTUs to Watts.

    For the record. The old Honda 2000 has a running capacity of 1,600 watts. The RYOBI 2,300 has 1,800. So it indeed is more. As far as complaining that it doesn’t have remote start while it has two other remote features that most others don’t even have, is just silly. An honest review rather than a catchy click “baity” title would have been more appropriate. I am buying a set of these and wasting my time watching this video because I thought it might have some information I should know about my purchase. I suppose your intentions were good. Face both generators towards each other and then put the inverter on the handles between each generator. You will not be able to see the controls on the face of the generator but it will keep the inverter off of the ground and sim-mi mounted to the generators. you can also use bungee cords and or zip ties. thanks for making the video.

    You probably having titled this: five things we would like to see improved on. The handle... Really? Much easier than caring it around compared to Honda, Predictor, Yamaha. I'm glad they have a handle andput the it where they did. my handle doesn't rattle and you'd have to stick your head really close to it in order to hear that if that's what you think it does. I think the generator drowns out the rattling if there is any. If the Ryobi only operates at 1800 what does the Honda or the competition perate at?
    had to use mine extensively because I'm in California and they cut all our power off for a number days and a number of times. I was very grateful to have this generator and found it to be very decent.
    I'm going to buy another one so that I can have the setup for 4000 Watts or 3600 Watts.
    Sorry but I don't agree with your list but I'm grateful that you actually posted something.

But that's with ANY small engine anymore and again its called maintenance But all of this is nothing when you keep calling the junction box the inverter. 🤦‍♂. No fuel stabilzer needed. Just open the float bowl drain on the carburetor to drain out the last two ounces of fuel left in the fuel system after the generator is run dry or the fuel is siphoned out of the tank. No fuel, no corrosion. Put the unused fuel in your auto. For emergency preparedness add stabilizer to the fuel can not the generator. Stabil 360 says it is for treating fuel cans. Fuel will remain potent in the fuel can. How long depends on the storage conditions but at least 6 months. Storing fuel in the generator leads to tank rust which can clog the carburetor in addition to the corrosion and varnish in the carburetor if not stored dry. Both lead to fuel starvation, hard starting , loss of power and engine damage. Squeeze-type bulb syphons work but there are also power wand transfer pumps which can serve double duty allowing the generator to be filled without lifting the can off the ground. $15.

    Fuel Stabilizer should be a given for any generator / gas small engine that runs only periodically, really even your push mower etc. (NOT true that it's only for storage or that it's harmful - using the right concentration of course). IE put it in the fuel can and then that issue of adding "to every tankful" is moot. The other mistake is to put stabilizer into the gas and then not run the engine (IE no stabilized gas in the carburetor as many doing this "for storage" are probably doing - also defeats the purpose.....) And of course most of all, drive around and find that gas station that sells zero ethanol gas, which is 80% the reason they gum up and hard start in the first place.... of note, these are Ducar generator engines - a common (and good) type across many if not most of the brands that would be competing with this model. Nice that this one has the Bluetooth and option to idle high / low, and has a built in hour meter. Wish they'd put the engine specs (oil capacity etc.) in the app, that would be simple and nice.... Check out Mr Garage's video for upgrading to an iridium spark plug and a slick way to fill the oil without making a mess, and tips on adjusting the engine as it ages. ruclips.net/video/uUVmREIpN5E/видео.html

It goes into overload with nothing else plugged in. The kids can't even watch a movie using a DVD when camping. I thought I would be able to at least watch TV using this generator. Honda EU2000 continuous load is 1600w, this one is 1800, so its better, to get more running watts buy a bigger generator, to not have to use the parallel box....buy a bigger generator, looking on home depot ryobi sell 2000,2300,3600,4000,6300,6500, and 7000 watt generators, To get electric start needs a 12v battery and will increase the weight on the unit.....who wants to lug around the extra weight of a battery and make a small compact 2200w generator big and heavy. Personally I think the parallel kits are nice to have but if I know that I need more power than one unit can provide regularly or to run your house in a power outage then just buy a bigger machine, 2 of these with a parallel kit is $1249 bucks today in Home depot with total of 3600 watts continuous load, doesn't make sense to me. I bought 1 of these, it's great as a handy little unit to runs drills, sanders, polishers, maybe a small pressure washer, keep the lights on in a power cut, but if your running AC units and refrigerators IMHO you and need a bigger workhorse generator......but I would avoid the twin cylinder if possible, they run sweet but I had one and oh boy it guzzled some gas.... I have a 4000w unit with a single cylinder Yanmar diesel, just enough to run the essentials in my house in a power cut and it sips fuel and storing diesel is so much less hassle.

      Right! Inverter generators use a full wave bridge that converts the high frequency AC from the many coil windings into flat/stable DC. The DC is then INVERTED back into AC at 60hz which is then available on the generator receptacles. This is how (and why) your generator can be running at less than 3600 RPM (in eco-mode for example) and still produce nice clean AC at 60hz since the inverter itself creates the AC 60hz sine wave output.

    This is not accurate. I have this same generator (just one) and it will run my entire 22ft camper. It runs a 8000BTU AC along with the refrigerator, tv, stereo, and lights all at the same time. If I were to use the microwave then yes I would need to turn off the ac while using it but then just turn it back on afterwards. This generator is an INVERTER generator so yes it does have its own built in inverter. If you are that concerned about dirt, then don't sit it in dirt... Sit it on a block of wood of something. The parallel box has several places on it so that it can be hung up off the ground. The handle rattle is a easy fix with a rubber washer, but mine doesn't rattle when the handle is firmly pressed all the way in. You are comparing this to a Honda generator that has a running wattage of 1600 and a peak wattage of 2200. The Ryobi has a running wattage of 1800 and a peak wattage of 2300 at less then have the price of the Honda. And the Bluetooth is an option that almost all generators don't have so way complain that it doesn't have remote start? If it had remote start then it would have to be bigger and heavier due to a battery and starter and cost more. Then you would complain that it cost too much and is too heavy. You should run a higher grade fuel and or stabilizers in ALL small engine due to all the ethanol in todays fuel, than is no fault to the Ryobi.

  • @dsharp2452
    @dsharp2452 4 года назад +10

    Wow, stop making videos. You have no idea what you're talking about. That box is not an inverter. The generators have inverters built in. The extra box just syncs them together so you can combine the outputs. Also don't add stabilizer to old gas. It only keeps new gas from breaking down. And yes they do have their own ignition systems they just don't have electric starters which is why they can't be remote started.

    The only things I don't like about this generator is 1) yeah, the handle CAN rattle sometimes but ensure it's locked and normally don't hear it; & 2) the remote shut off works - kind of... mine turns off if I keep it (the button in the app) held down but sputters and comes back on when I let go... but, whatever... The auto shut off timer did the same - cut the engine, but it just restarted automatically.
    I don't really care b/c I LOVE this generator.

    I have this exact setup. I use it to power a RV AC unit I mounted on the roof of my motorcycle hauler. I've used it in the high desert in California and the summer in Florida without a single problem. • @georgemuff5482
    @georgemuff5482 4 года назад +1

    This guy has no idea of what he is talking about. This is clear by his lack of understanding of general small engine care and what an inverter generator actually is. The box is not needed to run AC appliances it simply parallels the two generators to a combined greater output power. I always add fuel stabilizer to gasoline for my small engines, lawn tools, pressure washer, generator, etc, and have never had fuel related problems. It is just good practice as modern fuels contain ethanol which wreaks havoc on the small carburetor components and fuel lines. As far as power, My single Ryobi will run the AC on my trailer; the Honda will not. As long as I am conscious about what switches/breakers are on in the trailer it runs the microwave just fine (hint - make sure the fridge is switched to run on propane). I have never had to pull the starter rope more than 2-3 times to start even when cold and has been sitting for months. The handle did have a slight rattle, a small piece of fuel tubing stopped that. Overall, I think these generators are a great value given their power, reliability, and quietness of operation.

    Stop it. Had mines for over 5 years now and never put fuel stabilizer in it. It runs great and start with one pull.

    I have the 2200, worked great 2 years, now handle is stuck out, won’t go in! Won’t run without fuel treatment, pull your guts out trying to start it,

    Doesn't have a built in inverter? Sorry, but that is incorrect. That external unit is a parallel connector, not an inverter. That generator absolutely has an inverter. Wouldn't be able to idle down if it didn't.
