As someone with roughly 30k points across four armies... Thanks. I legit do not know how to play Warhammer.
oh mood?
Bahahahahah I can completely sympathize! I haven't played since 5th edition and honestly have absolutely no idea how the game works now. I have kept collecting, painting and modeling but haven't played once. I just keep buying rules intending to get out there.
Best video explaining 40k 9th rules I’ve seen.
Surprised this video has the lowest views of all the other "learning the game" videos it is so clean and easy to follow. Thank you for the video!
nooooo way I checked around yesterday for a core rule explanation and didn't find anything satisfying and today i look again and BOOM this magnificiant journey awaits me! awesome thanks man
By far the best how to play 40k video I've seen, and I've been watching a few of them. Little things like the difference of ranged weapon types how they interact which many don't go over. Awesome job!
Have spent 3 hours watching tutorials before, reading rules.. but this video finaly put everything in place to start playing this game!! Thank you!
this was really useful for a noob like me, thanks for posting it!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video. Can’t wait for the next. Answered some questions I had!
Glad it helped!
Outstanding tutorial!
Thank you so much, you're an excellent teacher and have helped me learn the rules better than my own reading.
You're awesome!
Being brand new to the hobby, your videos have by far been the best tool to learn putting a functional visual with the rule book. Clears up a lot of uncertainty!!
Thanks! Glad you found them helpful
Would like to play more via tts, but really need a refresher, appreciate you doing this...
Best tutorial on RUclips, deserves a lot more Views!
By far the most informational video I have found. Thanks!
Fantastically helpful; thank you very much. A lot in it so may need to watch it a few times for everything to sink in, but a great resource to have,
Super well done walk through
Enjoyed the video even though I knew most of it already. I can't wait for future videos to explain the things I am not 100% clear on.
Extremely helpful! I'm going to use this as a teaching aid going through me and my friends' first 500 point games. ... just as soon as the bastards paint 500 points worth if units.
:D I'm in the same situation. My mates and I agreed to play with painted models and that we would complete a 500 point army until february. At this point I have over 2000 points of Necrons and my pals are still painting stuff for 500. In the end I started painting Eldar and Tyranids as well...
Bro help paint them or let them borrow some models!
My friends don’t own any of their own models so we use all of mine as well as lego stand ins since they don’t want to sink money into the game(yet)
@@chrismartucci8146
In my case I'm a genuine support character while my mates paint. I prep bits by removing mould lines, I paint models if they let me, I cook meals for painting days etc.
@@theomay939 want to hangout lol?
Offer to spray prime them, but make them some color like pink. They’ll be ‘painted’ but it’ll make them highly motivated to get paint onto them.
Great vid, Trev!
This is a really great breakdown. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Really useful, thanks.
The thing i love about TTS is that you get all the codex's and books for only 20$ so you can spend the rest of the 100$ on actual models and not rule books.
Very useful thanks ! Having live demo using the software is a big plus 👍Please go ahead with additional ones 🙂
Best video ever explaining the basics. Thank you so much.
Glad you found it useful!
Really clear and concise explanation ✌️
I’ll be asleeping but will watch tomorrow 🥰🐶
Super helpful
Keep it coming
Very useful video, lots of details. Thanks a lot!
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic vid. Thanks
How have I not come across this yet? Using tabletop simulator is a great idea. Subbed
Awesome vid, too many tutorials on here are just people playing through a turn without actually explaining stuff that's happening each step. As someone only just starting to get into it this helps so much and I'll for sure keep this playlist bookmarked
Thanks, great video
thanks great video
Great job!
Great video, specially useful for me because I've recently got into 40K and I'm struggling with all this rules 😅 One thing that I noted is that you forgot to explain the "perils of the warp" rule in the Psychic Phase. Aside from that as I said, great work and very useful video 😄
Great point; I'm gonna be going over a lot of the extra rules in the the next episode :)
Thanks for this tutorial, i learned to play thanks to you, greetings from mexico, btw u have a new sub
Very helpful as a beginner! Thank you for putting this together. Now time to dive into tts...
Welcome to the community! :)
More please! Tyty!!
Learned a few things I missed this edition.
I heard "slumlord" a few times. I'm hearing impaired, so it is probably me, but I had to laugh.
Thank you for this video. I'm about to get back into the hobby after not playing since 4th and you're doing a good job of explaining things thoroughly while maintaining interest.
Thanks.
I know it's not actually possible, but you seem to anticipate when I'm running a Learn to Play event at the local shop. XD Last time you posted the Rules Everybody Gets Wrong videos right before.
my psychic phase is life
Super helpful, can't wait for the more specific rules video. Something I find confusing as a new player is things like relics, warlord traits. Maybe you could make a video covering those!
Already did; you can learn about them here: ruclips.net/video/PB0kAabUVHg/видео.html
:)
@@TacticalTortoise You're the man, best 40k youtuber ;)
I think it's already the second video from you when you explain that vertical movement requires a wall for climbing. I'm not a hardcode player at all, but I believe think it needs more clarifications, and how you actually explained it, works only for some terrain with Breachable, but without Scaleable. Because vertical movement doesn't work like that if it Scaleable (you can just "teleport" on second level, you don't need any wall for this) and will not work if it not Breachable (you cannot go through ceiling without it, you need an actual gap in it otherwise).
Also if players follow recommendations from core rules about Ruins or Industrial structures (the only in core book with 2+ levels), both have Breachable and Scaleable, and it makes sense, because breachable without scaleable makes it very hard to move even medium-sized units between levels (you have to move a model from wall on second level to make space for other models in the same unit)
Its the best
Do i make all my phases Move, shoot, physic, charge, attack etc .And when im done its my opponents turn to do all phases like i did?.
In morale a unit needs to be LESS than half-strength to flee on a 1 or 2 (e.g. 4 out of 10 models remaining, not 5 out of 10) Goonhammer talked about this in an article.
Ooooh boy. Live Stream
just want to let you know.... WOW THIS IS SO HELPFUL!! If I found out earlier last month I would have totally joined the tournament lol. Also the discord link expired...

I wanted to use the rules of 40k (then 8th) for a skirmish version of the rpg Dark Heresy 2.
Doesn't anybody else get annoyed by the extreme inconsistencies of movement and melee?
If there isn't a target to charge you have only your movement. If there is, you add 2D6 with up to 3" pile in and 3" consolidate movement... that more than doubles it!
If you like a consistent house rule, here is the most logical change (my prediction for the next edition):
Advancing and charging should not be mutually exclusive (so removing a D6 of charge movement to the movement phase).
Then I fixed a total fight phase allotment equal to your movement (often 6").
Your D6 charge only determines if you get bonuses, no weird randomness there. And you always move, no all or nothing.
You can use the remainder to pile in and get into non-charge combat, missing out on some bonuses.
If you have remaining movement left you can use them to consolidate after the fighting.
Note most melee oriented units (jean stealers, Khorne Berserkers and such) will probably have bonuses and/or rerolls.
I also like the idea of the Attack stat as a kind of action points, usable for offhand shooting attack or melee attacks. If you have points left you can set to overwatch, making it a significant mechanic really affecting play. And be consistent (shooting once, at the end of the enemy's movement phase) and not be determined by number of charging units.
I thought the LOS rules stated that you needed to be able to see the base? Also it has wording that states through or OVER terrain? Does this apply to containers? And does this change artillery style weapons?
LOS doesn't have any particular interaction with bases (although I wish it did); you just draw your line from any point between the two models.
Good video. I think the rules would be a lot more intuitive they switched -1s with +1s, etc. Like if you go from needing 3+ to 4+, if that was a +1 penalty, it would make a lot more sense. A -1 makes it sound like it would go down to a 2+. I get it that you’re removing one of the dice values that lets you pass but still, would be way more intuitive the other way around.
If you loose attrition, are those guys dead or do they just fall back?
Main thing that keeps me from Warhammer, waiting loooooong times between turns, and looooooong games that are decided sometimes hours ago
No perils of the warp explanation?
Do I have to roll Combat Atrition always or only after a failed Morale Check?
only if the morale check is failed
I have a really noob question here. If I have a mortar on my plagueburst crawler. Do atleast 1 of my models have to be able to see a target of the mortar that doesnt require line of sight? My friend basically says I have to see where the model is on the table to be able to know where to shoot my mortar but I cant find anything that says I need to do that.
Also how does it work with models that are underneath a roof?
Nope, you don't need LOS with any of your models
Trevvy! Can I ask you, as an extremely experienced 40k player/official, does the recent chapter approved errata on rare rules that remain stationary also apply to the scions of guilliaman ultramarine detachment ability. I think it does, meaning during tactical doctrine they can fall back and shoot without penalty and also advance and shoot but I would appreciate your input please.
I'm thinking I've spotted something that no one else has yet.
No; Scions Of Guilliman explicitly doesn't work if you've fallen back or advanced that turn.
@@TacticalTortoise I thought the errata might over write that with it being an 8th codex therefore worded differently to 9th standard?
@@real-lomas-chenko The ability *does not count you as stationary* if you advanced or fell back that turn, so the newest errata doesn't come into play at all.
@@TacticalTortoise OK, thanks trevvy. I'll concede to your wisdom. Really thought I'd spotted something there. ☹🤣
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Smite carry leftover wounds to the next model in a unit? I thought for sure that it would’ve killed more than one Hormagaunt
if you roll enough damage, sure
can't kill more that 1 model with a single mortal wound tho
@@TacticalTortoise Oh! Sorry, I misremembered it being 3 mortals. I made the comment pretty late in the video and didn’t go back to check. My bad… TwT
Question about The Swarmlord Datasheet, why are there three different stats?
Hmm, let me know if this is right, the amount of Wounds left on the unit affect other stats, so as it takes more wounds and has less available it can't move as far, etc.
Yep! Datasheets with multiple statlines like that have their stats change as they lose wounds.
👍
How do you roll off the dice for a unit of hellblasters overcharging?
You roll as usual, but hit only on 6, if you use overcharged profile 1 model dies for any roll of 1
@@gi1dor Hit only on 6s? That's for overwatch. If you overcharge a normal shot, then you use the models full ballistic skill, but any rolls of 1 will kill the model after shooting the weapon.
The correct way is to roll each individual model's shots separately if they are firing more than one shot each. If you roll them all at once then you will lose a model for every 1 you roll which isn't taking into consideration the fact a single model could have rolled two 1s by himself, meaning one of those overheated shots is actually redundant thus saving you a whole model.
Nice... I still don't get it.
I think I need to actually play and read the core book 😆
I had to leave a comment and like for that sweet Tortoise with rocket launchers. Lmao.
awww yissss
That charge-distance was always confusing me. So you need to move within 1" of the unit you charged. Does that mean it can be exactly 1'' away or 0,9''? Because you need to be "within" an inch for engagement... Yeah rules lawery but you know... can make a difference
Within means up to and including the specified distance; so you can stand "exactly" 1" away from a model and be engaged with them.
@@TacticalTortoise Thank you. But im still confused. Does that mean you always need 1'' less than the distance between the Units, to charge them?
Let's say max range, enemy unit is 12'' away, you would only need an 11? Or the unit is 8'' out, you only need 7?
And anything within 3'' is an automatic success on the charge?
Is that right?
@@MrBiochronic Yeah that's right.
The next question a lot of players ask is whether this means charging from a 9" deepstrike means you only need to roll an 8.
The answer is that deepstrike rules are worded so that you place models 'more than' 9" away. So charge distance out of deepstrike typically still requires you to roll a 9.
@@Arson2Fire That's good to know. Thanks
Wait. Invul saves only occur when there is no armor save? Fml.
You can take either one you want if you have them; it's just typical to take armor saves because they're usually better (but not always).
@@TacticalTortoise Yeah my buddies and I have been using both armoar and invul saves. ^^" Thanks for finally clearing this obvious mistake up.
I thought that if a unit was in a ruins building than everyone could see them regardless of having true line of sight, and so all the bolters could have gone into that unit no?
No; being inside Obscuring terrain only means that its Obscuring doesn't apply to them; you still need LOS normally.
I'm new learning and you can't listen to some of the players who have played for 10 years and hang out at the shop and have never played a tournament rule game start to finish even 1 time not even close
The link to join the discord is expired. Oh well, next time I guess
RUclips just messes with the embedded link sometimes; if you copy/paste the link text into a browser it'll work
I just need a way to beat my mates admech
can someone teach me how to beat my mates templars with necrons? 😂
Newbie question, what’s GT2021? Lol
Stands for Grand Tournament 2021 - it's the most recent book to come out with all of the most up-to-date missions and rules. They get released yearly in a set called Chapter Approved.
