Auto Chinon 200mm f3.5 - A hidden gem? (vintage m42 lens)

- The Auto Chinon 200mm isn't a very popular vintage lens, but I think it deserves some more love. Last year I bought this lens for the equivalent of 3 Big Mac's and it's some of the best money I ever spent. Most (written) reviews aren't great, but considering the price, I think you can't go wrong with the Auto Chinon 200mm. See for yourself what this thing can do.

I just bought a Pallas 200mm f3.5 (for just 13 euros), which seems exactly the same lens. It's quite heavy, but I absolutely love the sharpness, the colours and the smoothness of the focus ring.

Hi Ohjajohh, as always, I love the places where you shoot your videos, looks so relaxing. The shot of the building without a tripod was pretty good - I presume you had something to lean on because if I'd have done that hand held I'd have been wobbling all over the place!!!! Looking forward to seeing the Takumar - popular theory says that the Takumar will be better, but I wonder how much better it will be.
Thanks Tim, but that shot wasn't 100% handheld though :) I did put my camera down on a bench, but the bench was a bit wobbly. You can see the actual bench in the very first second of the video, all the way in the back there is a girl with a green/blue bike sitting on it. The first shot in this video is taken from where the two kids are eating icecream. If you Google "Grote Markt Delft" you can get a better impression of the size of this square.

nice vid. except for this and the 20mm, i've got most of the wide primes. i really don't need the 200mm, but i'm ocd about sets.

You can see chromatic aberration for example on the corners at 0:40 (purple shutter on the left and bikes on the right) and at 2:01 (black closed umbrella with green and purple borders against white roof). Considering the price, a decent lens (a few years ago I bought one too).
You did spot it well :) Yes, in some situations CA is visible, but it's not that disturbing to me.
The lens performance looks really good, I'm going to watch a good video

Hallo, aangezien ik Delft zie neem ik aan dat je Nederlands bent :) Denk je dat het de moeite waard is om deze lens te kopen voor mijn Sony A7 III Full Frame camera? (Met adapter natuurlijk)
Hoi, deze gehele video is ook geschoten met een A7 III en ik kan de lens zeker aanraden. Er staat nog een video op m'n kanaal van deze lens, daar vergelijk ik hem met een duurdere Takumar 200 mm. Soms is deze Auto Chinon wel op Marktplaats te vinden voor een mooie prijs. Ik zou er alleen niet meer dan 25 euro aan uitgeven. (ik heb hem zelf ooit gekocht voor 17.50)

What cameras are this lens compatible with?
Any camera that has a m42 adapter available. I use a Sony, but also many other camera's have third party m42 adapters available.

it looks just like and performs like a JCPenny 200mm f3.5. I'm just smitten with it. 67mm filter size per chance? I paid $5 for mine.
2 seconds in: this is the Netherlands.... xD I have 2 of these. The chromic aberiation wide open is insane... but considering how cheap they are and stopping them down to 5.6 or 8 they are pretty good.
When you see bicycles everywhere it's probably the Netherlands indeed ;)
