Being a young gay man growing up in a tiny village in the 80s. I was desperate to leave home and find acceptance. This song spoke so directly to my experience, it was and still is such an anthem for anyone who feels different or that they don’t belong somehow. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love the original but this one gives a different dimension to it and THE VOCALS. wow. Mind-blowing honestly. It's such a great version because the essence and identity of the song is still intact in this version which I LOOOOVED. wow bravo to you all who was involved in the making of this classic!!!!👏🏻
It's been a long time, since I really, really liked a remix. Loyal to original, never too much, but still enchanting and interresting new ideas. Well done on one of my all time favourites from my youth.
Perfection. An iconic song that so many people felt like it was their song their story. This version is simply incredible. Thank you to all who helped in the collaboration. .
Popped up on an ad, one of my fav song of all time. The original is a classic but it remixes so well from DNB to house to trance. I cant wait to hear how this will be remixed by future generations.
Truly a new modern touch to a never outdated original 1984 track that touched the heart strings of many of us through tough and great times since. Well done to all and London Records 🌈🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🌈
You could even say several millions of us, mainly into the LGBTQIA+ community, but ofc not exclusively. This sont remains the anthem of a whole generation though. I was 16 when the single was released in Europe.
Always wanted George Michael to cover this or Liza Minelli( think psb) back in the day in this style . This cover is perhaps better than the original being more crisp sounding and the subdued but powerful vocals .
Fresh out of Highschool Headbanger never thinking in just a couple of years I'd be out dancing in a bar (BackStreet Atlanta) full of hot sweaty men to the GREATEST of all the Bands at the time. Bronski, Petshop Boys, Depeche mode & so many more! The Music of my life! Great to hear it here fresh in 2024!
Congrats to The Knocks & Perfume Genius for giving Bronski Beat & Jimmy Somerville The Perfect 40th anniversary Remake of Smalltown Boy - A masterpiece of musical history that saved so many lives durning the 80s - A decade of Flamboyant Superstars and a Hateful Society that did not accept anything other than the norm, Not an easy time to be true to yourself, If you made it through however (with the help of songs like this) You are one tough MFer Now - and no one can take that away from you - no matter how badly they want to!!!
I think we can all agree that the original should be, in theory, untouchable. However, The Knocks and Perfume Genius have achieved the impossible here as this version is truly FANTASTIC. The vocals are even more charged with lust and longing, and the production is so subtle yet so contemporary and danceable that I can't stop shaking my ass every time I hear it. A truly classy, elegant and loving homage to a gorgeous classic. Obsessed.
I don't have the slightest idea, who The Knocks are, but this new mix of one of the most important songs of my life is very impressive. If my old rheumatic bones would allow it, I'd immediately enter the dancefloor and shout out every single word to an apathetic world. ;-)
Beautiful remix and so much more powerful by displaying the lyrics along with the trippy visuals. Things are better now than back in the 80s, but this song is still current with its message of pain and hope.
All the good bits in this are the same as the original track. All the new bits in this are mediocre. All the best bits in the original track have been removed or clipped. Heartbreaking to see this done to such an iconic track. The original cannot be bettered by some imitators. No one can live up to JS's unique voice. Sorry.
Like the remix, don't like the video at all. I think it's a missed opportunity not to make a modernized version of the 1984 music video. A frontal view of the lives of gay people outside of big cities today (and all LGBTQI people as well).
meh, this doesn't top the classic. nice visuals though. it's like dumbing down something so incredibly original and making it mundane. nice try. maybe you had to be there.
Maybe it's because they didn't really want to give the song a facelift and perform plastic surgery on the song fully. It's about keeping the essence and the identity of the song intact. Because if they changed it a lot y'all would STILL be complaining about the song so which is it???💀
We are honored to be involved!! Thank you for allowing us to be apart of such an iconic song!! We hope everyone likes it!
Killing it! Sounds amazing...
Iconic
The Knocks are amazing! The song was treated with all the respect it deserves. Well done guys!
@@MatthewDykes-h2r thank you!

This is a brilliant remix of a classic song.

Hello from Dallas 1957 old blind, but I can see
Thank you!
@@theknocks Of course 😘
I love Perfume Genius’ take on the vocals and for bringing this song to the attention of a whole new generation.
Superb work all round!
I will never tire of this song. It is TIMELESS. Great job Knocks.

My Tom would have loved this song. RIP Tom Noble
It's awesome that this song is getting renewed attention.
Beautiful tribute thank you, perfume …genius
That “classic” subtle piano is the knocks touch 👏
No the original track had the piano in it as well! The only thing they brought was that horrible vocal by perfume genius
@@michaelbruno1330 I don' think the bouncy background piano was the original
oh wow. Just heard this on Radio 6 and I am blown away by how beautiful it is

This song hit such chords in my youth ,,, it still does. Love the song, hate the pain.

Oh I'm sorry he didn't get to hear it. May his memory be a blessing.
This tune was already class. It is still Class. You can't buy class. x
I love this song, so much.
This song changed my life as a lonely gay boy starved for love

Bronski Beat and Perfume Genius?
Yes please!
Btw, I’m still listening to the September track in 2024.

Good choice on the vocals. Perfect person to be featured of that song. Immaculate vocals and production! 👍🏼 👌🏽
Amazing remix!🩵🩵🩵

This is without doubt the best reworking of this track . There have been a few others that was decent but this genuinely top class 💯👊.

Can I ask who is singing this as it doesn’t sound like Jimmy Somerville ? The chorus sounds like him but not the rest …..
Mike Hadreas of Perfume Genius
The only vocals of his you get on this horrible remix is in the chorus because whoever perfume genius is couldn't sing it properly

otra copia de cancion, haz una nueva, asi cualquiera es cantante
This perfume genius persons vocal is horrible and ruins this great track! Stop putting subpar vocalist with the amazing vocals of Jimmy Somerville
not really an improvement over the original nor many of the remixes we already have...
get well soon!
