Awesome video. You've convinced me to give them a go. Do you know the dimensions of the led lights? (The black housing of the 2 led pucks) Can't seem to find the dimensions anywhere online
Just clarifying, would you like me to take the length x width x thickness of the black rectangular portion of the light, in which the two LED pucks and the fan are housed? I can do it right away. Got a tape measure ready at all times 🤣 Just confirm for me and I’ll get you the info.
Thanks! Glad you found it useful. I’ve got a review posted on the Nicrew light, as well. It’s been a great setup. Might not be a $900 light setup, but it sure grows coral!
I'd love to see a comparison between the Nicrew controller and the Kessil. Trying to figure out which one I want to get. My thoughts is that the Kessil won't do everything it should with the Nicrew because they're from a different manufacturer and may not be intended to do things like lunar etc. Apparently the Nicrew doesn't gradually change between settings but just switches over? How well does the Kessil gradually switch between times?
It’s quite a smooth ramp up and ramp down with Kessil. Gradual brightening and dimming. Have heard good and bad about both. Can only speak to the Kessil. It works, but it’s clunky 😂
Eventhough you are not able to set for violet, green and red, do they still run? I mean they are full spectrum and have those LED's. I also seen on another video that on Nicrews controller which is a cheap copy cat of Kissels controller your not able to adjust them either.
I can do a whole video on the schedule I roll with on the Nicrew lighting. It’ll be up in the next few days here. Keep an eye out. You’ll just have to adjust the intensity of the light per your own tank and setup. But the schedule I use works very well for me so far. It’s a pretty typical example of a ramp up, with intense photoperiod, and then gradual ramp down.
I have high hopes that this video will help explain how this spectral POS x controller functions. dont have the nicrew, but the principal should be the same. this fricken thing has me flummoxed. kessil should pay you. this is MILES ahead of any kessil video I have seen or the brs videos... thank you...
Of course, brother! Always trying to help my fellow reefkeepers. I know this video would be boring for most, but I knew there would be a few people that might find it valuable. Let me know if you have any additional questions about it, I can always test/tinker with it more.
"programs" kessil, means something that does something, so if someone clicks on it, it means you want that program to "run" not turn off in 5 minutes.... kessil WTF
Interesting, I’ll bet the Nicrew controller is fully capable of controlling a Kessil. And who knows, really. I suppose I could buy the Nicrew controller and compare the two. It’s only $45…but that’s $45 I couldn’t spend on coral. Ha. Basically, I read the reviews of the Nicrew controller, and enough reasonable-sounding people criticized its interface that I paid the premium for the Kessil controller. However, it’s not like the Kessil controller is some bastion of high-tech brilliance. The design is pretty pathetic by 2023 standards. Regardless, I figured I’d post this walkthrough for anyone going this route.
@@kalamazoo_reefer I wish I hadnt gone with kessil. their idea of charging extra for functions that other high end manu's consider features, is a no go for me.... the problem is.... here I am. i need another light (or two) for a larger aquarium, and I already have bought into the kessil program.... so, do I continue? or do i go with AI or maybe one of the cheapo amazon (really dont want to make bezos any richer) lights??

Kessil are my favorite lamps ❤.
Good tips.
Honestly all lights on the market work grow coral. It’s all about tech , form, budget.. the noopsky leds I think are best bag for buck
Agree. Haven’t encountered one reef light that didn’t work.

Having a 0-10v port would the kessil wifi dongle work also 🤔 shopping around for new lighting on the tanks and stumbled on your video. Great video!

Ted - I dedicate this video to you, good sir. 😂
I found it interesting, now I'm seriously considering the Nicrew 50 for my 4.8 gallon pico.
@@tedblack2163 It’s a slick light. I don’t care that it’s a black box type light, it actually looks clean and has a solid build to it.

The Nicrew ramps are 1% at a time for the ramp change.

They sure do run. I looked directly at the diodes (not advisable - ouch), and saw all those colors clearly active.
by the way... can recommend the schedule you are using? if so, what are your settings?

@@kalamazoo_reefer wished this video was out when I set up my 1st kissel controller
@@jr2coool Glad it’s helpful! I felt like I sort of stumbled through it when I was done 😂
The NiCrew LED controller is half the cost and virtually identical.
Sweet! That’s good news for people who want that controller.
I use the kessil controller too, because the nicrew controller didnt exist when i got my hyperreef 😅
I’ve heard mixed reviews on the HyperReef one. A lot of people hate it. But a lot hate the Kessil controller too 🤣
@@kalamazoo_reefer how does the 10v cord work? plug it into what or where? is there a port on the HyperReef?

For what companies charge for reef tank tech, you’d think it would be the most cutting-edge product field ever. But not even close.
@@kalamazoo_reefer for the amount of known science in this hobby, there is a lot of snake oil as well!
the nicrew controller can control the kessil light. it CANNOT be any more difficult to use than the kessil...
