The long-awaited DJI Mavic 3 is a big upgrade in image quality, flight time, and features a dual lens system. The 4/3" sensor is it's best feature, and has a Hasselblad 4/3 CMOS camera (L2D-20c) and 12.8 stops of dynamic range.
It can do 5.1k up to 50p, and 4k up to 120p (coming in Jan)
I love the main camera, but the telephoto camera leaves a lot of room for improvement. The Dlog-M profile is very flat and has great dynamic range, but it's got some strange color shifts. Don't expect to adjust it with contrast curves and saturation only, you'll have fluorescent greens and unnatural earth tones.
The last two shots of the opening sequence were grade with SkyGrades Day-for-Night : geni.us/DayForNight

always interested to here your thoughts and loved using your ltd with the MP2.. I ordered the combo as I thought the cine would be overkill (plus prores on my s1h's kill my storage space).. will you stick with the combo or get the cine?
@@pzazzcreativemedia7205 I've got no interest in the Cine version. My main camera, the C70 is used in h265 mode as well and I'm happy. But I will get an M1 iMac at some point to smooth out the editing.
@@thefilmpoets ive filmed in pro res a few times on my s1h, footage is great to work with but it eats up my storage space. I will wait for the iMac Pro next spring, though my current system works well enough. Luts are great btw, interested to see a dusk low light version, whether we need the neat video profile you created
just purchased your sky grades collection for my new Mavic 3! Super hype to make a video on it!!!
Killer insight as always, loving the Memba outro as well... 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is flat out the best Drone footage I have ever seen! I have seen a lot. Thanks!
Fantastic review. My channel wouldn’t be where it’s at without your suggestions and tools. Can’t wait to get my hands on this drone.
Great Matt, thanks for getting this information out so fast. It’s a very impressive new drone.
Super informative as always! PUMPED to get my hands on this little beast!!
For an insanely high-performing beast, this thing is a beauty!
Love your content btw
always soo inspiring
Great stuff as usual. I will be getting mine very soon. I can hardly wait to get into the mountains with it.
can't wait for the full review with the best settings
Love it! DJI YES! Another Must Have gadget.
great no bs stuff as always.looking forward to full review and luts also..
Amazing video, thanks...looking forward to more about settings, and totally agree about the zoom camera and its limitations.
Awesome review!!! Thanks
Great video once again! Thank you!!
Just mind blowing
I love it, can’t wait to get my hands on mine. Ive got some amazing shots in mind
Freakingly awesome drone! That's it Imma head to the store now!
Great video Matt! I can’t quite decide how I feel about this. On the one hand I am excited to see DJI cater to the professional market with pro res and a nice flat log profile with great DR. On the other hand, I’m a bit disappointed about the telephoto lens. I was hoping for something much higher quality to really make it stand out like the inspire does. Unfortunately, because of that I think I will hold off for now on the upgrade. All that said, what a beautifully shot intro sequence. Great work as always!
Amazing video as always, your channel is the first I came to check for the new Mavic 3 Video, I will be picking up your LUTs as well for mine but would you also be making the more extensive test with the sharpest camera settings and things like that? That would be incredible! Thanks so much
Very helpful video!! 👍 🙏
Waitinig the next video for best camera settings and the best aperture...
#KeepUpTheGoodWork
that bird looks like a 3d render with the 7x zoom lol! all the footage are gorgeous though! 🤩
Where’s that full review of this thing at? Patiently waiting!
your intro should be a video in it self. great job.
Top drawer presentation without all the theatrics, super clear commentary, and decision-making ammunition. You are up there with the best sir. From this video, I am making $3,500 decisions. That Mavic 3 WILL be ordered now that you have cleared up things, and I WILL be buying your LUTs sight unseen. Jesus, keep doing everything you are doing now. Greetings from Helsinki.
I really like how professional you go into the extreme details. That's what I always wanted. Many youtubers dont even care about those settings color shifts, details in the shadows dynamic range in Dlog... and honestly it is all about these tiny details that makes a huge difference when all added up! Great video about getting most out if abitger great dhu dribe, U rremember mavic pro (6y ago) video from you and still it's so up to date) great stuff. and so rich in details.
Thank you - I keep updating the SkyGrades LUTs for the Mavic 3 - need to make a new video.
I always get your LUTs and I can't wait to get the Mavic 3 LUTs..
You always have the best breakdown of DJI drones! Is the distortion fixed from mavic 2 pro?
Love your reviews Matt! I def will have one of these birds for sure. But I'm a little disappointed they released it without all the features ready to go.
I ordered this thing right away last night and I’m excited, but I have to say that the implementation of the secondary camera is a huge bummer. Let’s hope they’ll upgrade it so we can shoot RAW photos and LOG footage.
Nice review, thanks!
I buy your LUTs for all my new drones! :) about to buy your skygrade naturals for Mavic 3 (which I should receive on Monday!). Any particular settings you recommend for this drone? :) you always do a settings breakdown of the DJI drones that I love and live by!
Thank you for being the only reviewer to upload in 5K 2880p. So I can see the true QUALITY of the drone "THUMBS UP" . . . .
Nice catch. Yea I wanted the 5k iMac people to see the full glory.
Drone maravilhoso
This is it. ❤️🤦🏻♂️
Hi Matt!
Nice review of the new Mavic 3, hole see your best settings for this drone like your video in the Mavic 2 Pro will be nice to see.
👍💯
Great review, Matt! I like the larger sensor, but that seems like the only big upgrade with the second camera being not so useful. I'd love a comparison of image quality between the Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 3. I'm guessing you're working on it. :)
same here, without a doubt this is a massive upgrade in quality but the Mavic 2 still produce great images photo and video, if money wasn't the issue I would get it but I feel that the Mavic 2 still an awesome drone.
So it ain't good enough
Any more thoughts on the settings for the mavic 3? Especially after all the upgrades.
Hey matt, Fantastic review. do you feel you will miss Hq mode from the MP2? Only thing thats really holding me back at the moment. Thought the main camera would of had a hq Mode Just that ability to get that slightly tighter shot and come out from behind things.
Great work as usual, Matt! I’m digging the new studio background too! Haven’t decided yet on the regular Mavic 3 or Cine yet…
I want to see night flight tests too 😆
Is it possible to have a video with the best settings for the mavic 3 ?
Great Video man! When is the full video coming? Any chance on comparing the photo quality as well? Would love to see the performance of the lense!
I'm taking it on a few more professional shoots before we do the full video. And yea I'd love to do some photo tests.
Great review, thanks! It my understanding the telephoto images are .jpg only and 12Mb . That's really, really unfortunate. Anxious to get one but it'll be a little while. I glad to hear the camera is better than the Mavic 2 Pro. I'd love to be able to download some small D Log clips to see how they grade. Anxious to hear more!
So that leaves only the wide angle lens for photography... and that one is 24mm vs 28mm on the old one. 4mm is a lot when comparing wide angles. So, for photography it's a mixed bag.
When is the full review coming out with recommended settings?
Is it possible to have a video with the best settings for the mavic 3 ? (Aperture, ISO...)
Hey there hope your well. I've had your drone luts since the Mavic 2 and love them. A few days ago got new ones for the Mavic cine. Do you have a lens correction lut for that. Seeing a slight distortion. Nothing crazy but what do you recommend to fix it. Thanks
DId you notice any crop shooting 4K 60fps like the Air 2S?
I do like that Hannibal Lecture cover for the drone? The way it sounds? I appreciate that. I'm not going to mention the price, because everyone is saying the same thing. The color is great? Of course, who is going to complain about the camera? It's awesome. It also has a bunch of great features, and specs. I wish that DJI can come up with a new smart controller that is compatible with the resent Mavic's like the mini 2, MA2, and Air 2 S. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Thanks for this review. I've subscribed to your channel. I am considering buying this drone and selling my Mavic 2 Pro....
Dang it, I'm not sure I have enough kidneys left to sell for more gear...
This looks amazing, thanks for the first look!
yea its not cheap.
Nicely done! Are there more specific scenarios where you prefer log profiles especially if the grading time is a lot longer or do you try to shoot log during most times?
always log IMO. Applying a single lut like SkyGrades takes no time
just discovered your LUTs and this video. Excellent. I have bought the set for the Mavic 3 but do you have a solution or a way to get correct colors from the HLG mode? I was testing today with the Mavic 3 and latest firmware. The colors on my RC pro look fine, but in Premiere not possible at all. I did not find a correct color conversion in Resolve 18 as well. Hope for a reply. Thanks
thanks! I don't like or suggest HLG mode because it has less room for grading and doesn't increase dynamic range
@@thefilmpoets agree. I could not get nice results with HLG. I was wondering if I made it wrong. Done. I will test some d-log m today with your LUTs
Inspire Mini would have been an equally fitting name for this device. Great review.
Thanks for the video. I have a Mavic 3 classic, the main camera should be the same. Apparently there is no noise reduction applied in 5.1k mode. So I was wondering if you’re planning to release neat video profiles for the Mavic 3 as well? I used your profiles for the Mavic 2 and was quite happy about them.
Yes - I have this iron and the new Mavic 3 Pro. I'm doing some more testing before release, but I've found that even for low light shooting, ISO 1600 in log, then de-noised with Neat Video is superior to Night Mode - So the profiles will be useful.
Omg
I see that the Log profile is bright like in Autel Evo II pro. Did you compare?
I don't mess with Autel. Glad they are bringing in some competition though.
Thanks for the review Matt. Already drained my savings to buy the Mavic 3 on launch and will certainly be investing in your Luts, as I regularly use your Mavic 2 Pro Luts. In your tests so far, do you feel there will be a need for you to create a distortion correction? I always use your M2P version.
Thanks Brian. There are no distortion issues with the mavic 3.
Thanks for confirming 👍
Hey Matt! Thanks for this, helped me make the decision to get one. Do you have any MUST-SET setting changes to get the best out of this drone? Like contrast/sharpness levels, as well as best aperture settings? (Shooting in H265 D-Log) I appreciated those tips with the M2P, curious if you found any sweet-spot settings for the 3 though!
Hey! Still testing a bit because they keep updating the firmware. It's almost been like a beta camera until the past few weeks. But I can say that h265 is perfectly fine D-log. Most apertures are sharp but the sweet spot so far as I can tell is 5.6. - above f/10 starts to soften.
Hey there, great video. Have you come to a conclusion about sharpness-settings? Is there a lot of noise reduction going on like on the Mavic 2 pro?
I think the prores 422 HQ that has mavic3 cine is much better than normal 4K of mavic flymore kit. Super different. I Swear.
Matt, any subjective perspective on recommended camera settings as of yet? Your initial approach to the Mavic 2 Pro has been vastly helpful in the past. Aside from of course shooting in D-log, what other adjustments would you recommend that work best with your Mavic 3 Luts? (Mavic 3 Classic) Thank you in advance! AVA Brian
I like the 5.1k, 24fps with d-log. aim for f/4-f/8 aperture. I also like the 1x and 2x settings in the new firmware. 2x looks nice and compressed and not too soft. Most everything else is preset inside the camera.
@@thefilmpoets Thank you! Helpful.
did you get around to do the full aperture review?
Mavic 2 zoom vs the telephoto camera on the mavic 3, are they comparable? Thx for the great vids
It’s basically a m2 zoom with a fixed lens and no control of exposure.
I wish they can add the Hdr option just like the Mavic 2 Pro i just made an upgrade and sucks that i have to take 3 pictures and then merge on mac.
Also i just tried to read my dlog vids and premiere neither quicktime cant open. Has a slash on the preview? Could it have been cause i place on on the true preview of dlog?
Thank you film poets! Love your videos. I noticed you didn’t go with the Cine. Struggling with this decision. I want the rcpro so I guess the question is a difference of $800. Is the quality bump from prores worth it? I don’t know. :/
It's more than $800 because you've got to store that massive footage. Thats the big downside to me, it's only PrRes HQ, which is huge,. I like the HEVC efficient codecs, its what I use on my c70 as well, 95% as good at 15% of the file sizes.
@@thefilmpoets I hear you. Well I would only use the HQ high file as a starter codec and output in H265/h264 final. I wouldn’t keep the original footage. So for me it is only 800 difference.
Matt, I bought your Luts bundle for my mini 3 pro, just a quick question since I'm new to this and learning FCP10. Can I apply LUTS to stills that I take with the Mini 3 pro?
Thanks Rex
You can - Adobe Lightroom can load luts. Also FCPX can import stills and export them in JPG or tiff
Is there solution/lensProfile to fix lens distortion when shoot video in 10bit proress , like you did for mavic2pro?
Would you be willing to share some sample mavic 3 h.265 dlog footage for testing purposes? If not, do you know of any on the net that can be downloaded?
Does it provide GIS support?. Is GIS avalilable across the world?.
Best review so far. But worth upgrading from Mavic 2 pro? Still on the fence. Still answers a lot of my questions. Hoping that resolution and low light are better than mavic pro 2. But a huge hit to the wallet from mavic 2 pro. The Cine version is a bit too expensive for a codec and 1 tb ssd. OK get the nicer remote, give them that. But very expensive and gigantic file sizes. For me regular fly more combo probably. No problem working with h.265 files in Resolve here, or grading them either. No need for prores hq. Low light and resolution are the main upgrades. Do a side by side with a mavic 2 pro.
I did a side by side resolution test from the M2p, but it didn't make the video. It's much sharper than the FOV of the m2p. About the same as the air2s, but with more dynamic range. Air 2s is the way to go if budget is a concern.
any idea why my mavic 3 only offers 400 and 800 iso in video? And yes- I updated everything
Not sure. My first firmware version only offered that, then it updated and I could go much higher, I wonder if they removed it in the lates firmware. DJI is always fiddling with things.
@@thefilmpoets I have spoken with support a few times and they are suggesting my problems could be related to the IOS of the iphone 13 pro max
@@Sportfishtrader Gotcha. The app wouldn't even work with the latest IOS when I was testing, so it's probably got some kinks. hopefully they fix that up quickly.
I've been searching for a video quality comparison between Mavic 3 (regular) and the Phantom 4 pro. Any chance you could do such a video or just give a quick response with a personal opinion?
I used to own a Phantom 4 and been waiting for a foldable drone that surpass it in terms of video quality. This is it, yes?
Quality to me, especially lately, is having more dynamic range and less artifacts. In terms of detail alone, the p4 has a lot and I like the image. But the Mavic 3 has more dynamic range and a cleaner overall image because of the larger sensor. It's above the Phantom 4 in all aspects IMO.
@@thefilmpoets Thanks a lot for your time and insight. I liked the video quality of the phantom 4 pro a lot but at the same time I often find it limiting coming from DSRL photography where once could do a lot in post. Hopefully I'll feel less limited with a Mavic 3. Thanks once again for a great channel.
Looks like everyone watching is smashing the buy button right now!
I wish that was a wide angle instead of telephoto haha
THERE IS NO WAY the 7X is AUTO EXPOSURE!!!! WTAF!! They better fix that, and fix that FAST! That pisses me off. Can’t wait for this drone to be delivered tho
While testing I literally said this out loud.
@@thefilmpoets Truly BOGGLES my mind. This is a $3-5k drone, and they don't have MANUAL exposure control. Can't wait to have 7x zoom when I shoot clients ranches, vineyards, etc :D
What is the difference between bigger sensor vs less pixels? Compared to mini 3, which gives better output as video/photo ?
Larger sensors can have larger pixels or just more of them, it depends on what resolution it has. In general larger pixels gather more light, like your pupil in your eye getting bigger. More light means less signal to noise ratio, which means a cleaner image. The Mavic 3 is superior to the mini 3 in that regard, but the mini 3 still has a nice image especially considering it's size.
@@thefilmpoets thank you sir/madam, appreciate the detailed explanation!
DJI Mavic 3 Standard with the Fly More Kit is the best choice..
7X is still the native 4/3rd camera
Is there any crop in the 4k 60fps?
no crop, no image quality loss. I hope the same for the 120fps but thats unlikely.
@@thefilmpoets ty… will you be getting the cine version?
@@rMr.big13 Nope, I don't shoot in file sizes over 500mb/s - Too much storage space is taken up over time. Modern compression with h265 is pretty nice. Thats what I use on my c70 as well.
@@thefilmpoets maybe they will give the lower prores options like Lt
@@thefilmpoets oh and what is your opinion on the 15mm wide angle lens add on?
And just like that. Ill keep the I2. Maybe add a Mavic Air 2 to my line up. :)
Air2s if anything. thats the one if not the m3 IMO.
@@thefilmpoets Awesome thanks for the sugestion! I definitly need a bird that is a little more portible.
How are you getting 40 minute Flight time with Mavic 3? I don’t get any where like that!!!!
They shoulda ditched the small sensor & done apsc with changeable lenses
Will these LUTs work on Lumafusion?
Yea lots of SkyGrades users edit with LumaFusion.
There was a time I would jump to the latest but maybe this is not it.
Do you think quality on cine is worth it?
I haven't tested the cine version, but its HQ only, which is an insane file size. The intro in my video was all h265 footage.
And from what I saw on other videos it's not a huge difference. Instead you could get the 2k standard version, buy a 2k MacBook Pro with m1 to edit h265 easily, and still have 1k left over.
BTW my iMac Pro had no issues with the h265 files.
@@thefilmpoets I use proxies anyways so my interest is more in the final image quality than the prores ease of editing without proxies. I'd love to see a side by side proress vs H265 compression quality test.
@@HiFocusedCinematography Yea me too, nobody that had the Cine version did a comparison. I would have had I had it.
@@thefilmpoets Yes that is much needed!
Have you used any ND or polarizer filters?
Yea. I like the Polar Pro polarizers!
@@thefilmpoets have you tried the Freewell ones? With the hybrid ND+PL as well. What is your opinion?
@@djpirra I've used them for other drones. They are nice too. The main thing to look out for with any filter is going to be color shifts. Cheaper ones can shift everything green or magenta. you can do a little test with and without the filter on white paper and compare the image. That'll let you know if it's truly neutral .
But what we all really want to know is, which one of those houses is yours? lol
Can you confirm that Ocusync 3.0 is only available with the Pro controller?!
The spec sheet I got from DJI says O3+ for all models and controllers.
@@thefilmpoets Thanks for the reply. The specs on the store page says the RC that comes with the standard M3 is OC2.0, but I'm hoping that's an error...
@@TylerHansenVideo same as their existing controller so why would it be any different?
Rumor’s say they working on a M3s. Can someone confirm?
First!
No😂😂

I think a lot of us would appreciate a quality comparison between max bitrate H265 and ProResHQ. They want an extra $2,000 for what I'm guessing is a marginal (if not imperceptible) quality increase. But who knows, I might be wrong.
This is the only thing I want to see. A comparison watching them drop the same color grade on each image, and seeing how much further the pro res can go.
@@Datboyvideo pretty wild not a single one of these RUclipsrs did this test, considering the price jump between models.
@@TylerHansenVideo I do love these reviews, but I don’t think most of these guys understand how to properly test an image. Especially when it comes to offering ProRes. Based on the price point, it’s clearly aimed at the higher level, (colorist friendly) market. Given the fact most of these guys also sell “LUT packs” I think it’s an oversight.
@@Datboyvideo guys, if I had the Cine version that could record prores that’d been the first test I ran. I’m surprised no one else ran a test either.
Also in the leaked specs it indicated a mechanical shutter, now real specs are out and it an electronic shutter! not happy...
Wait, it's not our yet right?? I didn't think it'd even been announced yet!
just launched!
@@thefilmpoets do you have any pricing info yet?
After 12 hours in flight, my Mavic 3, the camera's gimbal drive went crazy, jerks left right down up, the horizon is littered and writes camera error. I contacted the dji service, sent them to the dji Ho Chi Minh service on their recommendation, they concluded that there were problems in the camera's gimbal drive and the camera itself was faulty, the mavic 3 was under warranty, but they started offering to repair it for $ 800, I motivate that the warranty is not global, and for some reason it should be sent to a factory in Denmark, someone have you heard that there is a dji factory in Europe ? The Mavic 3 box says that it is made in China. The logic of dji is like this, I have to send a copter to Denmark from Vietnam to my friends who are not there because I am not from Denmark, and I have to pick up the copter myself after flying from Vietnam to Denmark, a great plan?!) My answer is that dji should make repairs at its own expense, since this is a warranty case, and it's not my fault, there were no falls and bumps during flights. But for some reason dji decided otherwise and they persistently offer to change this spare part at my expense. I think that dji has deteriorated the quality of its copters and this defect is present in many mavic 3. I leave this unflattering review, in the hope that the one who was going to buy the mavic 3 copter was aware of what he might encounter, namely, a factory defect in the mavic 3 and, of course, with repulsive service and warranty support!!!
ruclips.net/video/k5ub6luv8P4/видео.html
hope you dont get in trouble for dropping this too early :))
I didn't
I can only film in 4k(which makes the app freeze) and 1080 at only 30fps. Do all production models do that right now?
While the additional flight time is a nice to have, I really can't see where that footage is any much different than what I can get out of my M2P in DLOG with color grading.
It's got more dynamic range, but if you're exposing properly with the Mavic 2 Pro then most of the time you'll have enough DR anyway.
I would expect a deeper and more honest review from you guys. a bit disappointed. The battery life was reported by some other youtubers don't meet the advertised specs, not even getting to 40 mins under very normal conditions. Noise performance in low light conditions is very similar to mavic 2 pro despite a bigger sensor. Getting slightly more dynamic range for the drone that most of us fly occasionally to insert only 20 secs of drone footage in the entire video is not worth the upgrade in my opinion. I don't see groundbreaking specs over mavic 2 pro.
I got 38-40 minutes on several flights so thats all I can share. But you're right for a hobbyist or even a wedding drone that's used for 1 or two shots there are better values like the Air 2s.
But this is still the best image quality I've seen on a mavic and 1 stop of dynamic range in the shadows makes a big difference in certain scenarios.
I have officially been ad-targeted
