Hi Jen! "The Revenge" is based on Larry David quitting, in spectacular fashion, as a writer at SNL and just going back to work without saying anything.
When they were making Seinfeld they didn't know if it was going to be picked up for a 3rd season, so The Deal was meant to be the final episode of the show, where Jerry and Elaine got back together. Larry David said he was very surprised it went beyond the 2nd season. Also Elaine's roommate was Edgar's wife in Men in Black. The Revenge episode was based on a true story from Larry David, where he lost his temper and quit ... only to return pretending it never happened.
Larry David was convinced that Seinfeld would be canceled after season 2. He told a story about how he freaked out and had a panic attack when NBC wanted a season 3 with 23 episodes. Season 1 & 2 had 17 episodes combined and Larry was sure he was out of ideas and there was no way he could help write another 23.
In "The Heart Attack" the holistic healer, Tor Eckman, was played by the wonderful character actor Stephen Tobolowsky, whom you will recall as Ned Ryerson, the insurance salesman, in _Groundhog Day._
Agreed. And they even make up stupid excuses like "oh it's an episodic show, you're meant to jump in and out at random episodes" and I'm just sitting here like... no mfker, literally every tv show is episodic, that doesn't mean what you think it means.
A Mickey Finn is just a generic term to give someone a drink with something in it to incapacitate them. Apparently named after a bar owner around 1900 who was accused of drugging some patrons to rob them. Became popular in detective movies, when someone was "slipped a mickey". "Zipper" is what they would call the scar pattern on someones chest after heart surgery. That's also Larry David in the Silver suit on TV.
An underrated aspect of Jen’s reactions is the way she produces props from nowhere like Bugs Bunny. I picture there being a giant pile of props just off camera.
That's *_TOTALLY_* different! Bugs Bunny is a cartoon character, and the trick is the animators don't have to animate stuff behind the characters' backs. What Jen does is a little something called *_Editing_*
The funny thing about George saying he's 33 is that Jason Alexander was actually younger than that when he filmed this. According to his Wiki page, Alexander was born in 1959 and this episode was filmed in either 1990 or 1991. As a guy who started losing his hair as a teenager, I can attest that men definitely look much older than they are with a bald spot and/or receding hairline. As a now 50 year-old, I am finally starting to look my age.
I’m loving these reactions! You’re the only one on RUclips that I can find reacting to entire episodes of Seinfeld! Whenever you drop one, as soon as I see it, I watch lol
You got the original broadcast version of The Revenge, where Newman wasn't yet supposed to be a recurring character so he was just voiced offscreen by Larry David. When Wayne Knight was cast later, he dubbed the scene for reruns.
I knew about this but I didn't know the original Larry David Newman was available to watch, I figured all versions were replaced with the Wayne Knight Newman.
Hi Jen, I had a bit of a rough day at work and was looking to unwind. Turned on my box and went to RUclips and your Seinfeld stream was first up. Thank you, I feel great now love laughing with you love watching old Seinfeld episodes, (my favourite sitcom of all time) Hope you had a wonderful day, looking forward to Star Trek on Sunday 🖖😊
I didn't exactly steal cable but in my 90s apartment I found a coax cable sticking out of the wall in my closet. Out of curiosity I plugged it into my TV. Boom! Cable plus HBO and Prism (movies and sports). It lasted for 2 years before they shut it off.
Back in the mid 90's I got divorced and I moved in with my best friend. I was used to having cable TV and all the movie channels. My friend didn't want the cost, one day he came home and said "You owe me $50". I asked "For what", he then told me he had bought a cable cheater box. I was convinced it wouldn't work, but we hooked it up and we got EVERY channel available on cable. We used it for 5 years and when I moved out I took it with me and used it another 5 years. Best $50 bucks I ever spent.
Tonsils can partially grow back after a tonsillectomy if only part of the tonsils are removed. This is because some tissue is often left behind after a tonsillectomy, and this tissue can enlarge over time. The regrowth is usually partial and not complete, and the new tonsils might look like bumps. They can sometimes become infected and swollen, and may obstruct the airways.
The first “Newman” was actually the voice of Larry David. Wayne Knight appeared as Newman later. I miss Elaine’s roommate. I imagine most people found her annoying, but I would have liked her to show up, occasionally throughout the series. She was perfect for Kramer, too. Lol
The guy on TV at the end of the episode was Larry David. He is also the voice of George Steinbrenner when George works for the Yankees in later seasons.
I stone washed For Bristol Jeans in the late 80s to early 90s. We made them for Girbaud brand jeans. Lava rocks along with chemicals are how they are made.
In the episode 'The Revenge,' the neighbor Newman has the voice of Larry David, the co-creator of the show along with Jerry Seinfeld. Larry David is the one who appears in the heart attack episode, playing the mad scientist in that TV show Jerry watches. In that episode, he also voices the patient who tells George to be quiet. In the next season, the neighbor Newman is played by Wayne Knight.
The storyline about George quitting and just showing up to work like it never happened is based on a true story. Larry David did the same thing when he was a writer on SNL. Also as you go through the series, look out for the random Larry David cameos
yea the GUY with the cape in that wild epi with george and his parents, and of course later on Larry does the voice of George Steinbrenner and his bully ways with the Team, There actually is a clip filmed (on you tube) of George S but they cut it out from whatever episode it was gonna be used in
Hello again, Jen👋meant what I'd said yesterday, I really am Enjoying these "Seinfeld" Episodes with You😂more than I'd ever thought that I would, and I'm looking forward to sharing many more...👍
The Jerry and Elaine hookup was a force by the network execs. However, Jerry and Larry David pushed back immediately after that episode. They are friends going forward (they have "this", but not "that" nor "the other" for the rest of the series)
Jen... I just noticed your tee! Hey, "OOT-fray OOPS-lay!" June Oh! in regards to "Dr. Zhivago".....You just might love it. I did when I was 13 years old. The best romantic, sad movie of 'what might have been.' ( for those in the movie )
Here’s some wise advice: There’s no such thing as “Friends with Benefits,” and also “No strings attached.” Anyone who says this is either very naive, or a liar. When it comes to s*x, there’s nothing beneficial about losing a friendship, and strings are ALWAYS attached…. ALWAYS Happy New Year folks!!!
I feel like George's brainstorming powwow with Jerry about "what are you going to do next??" is how most reaction channels got started lol. I wonder if any reactors have interesting "quitting their job" stories before deciding to react online for a living.
It's usually the other way around with many reactors. They do full time RUclips but either can't afford life with it as a main source of income or they want more so they get a job and hire an editor. Some even quit reactions altogether. Those who quit their jobs to do reactions are usually the top 1% at the level of Blind Wave and such.
2:23 Being on the mic for any part of a sports broadcast is difficult. I should know. I've been calling play-by-play for at least one hockey team in Thunder Bay, Ontario since 2013, and while it doesn't seem difficult at times, it sure doesn't get any easier.🙂 The teams I work for are the Lakehead Thunderwolves (university team) and Thunder Bay North Stars (junior A team).
Last night I was about to take my daily nap prior to work (I work overnites) and saw the notification and had to put it off til I watched this!~ CableBoy!! "I've never had a good pickle" - to see THAT prolonged laughter from Jen made it all the worthwhile that when I went off to bed I was LOL as I dozed off :D Keep 'em coming!
Larry [David] didn't think the show would be picked up for another season, so Jerry & Elaine getting back together at the end of The Deal wasn't a big issue. He didn't care one way or the other. 😄
14:06 One of the funniest bits in the entire series.🤣🤣🤣 18:06 Stephen Tobolowsky is one of the greatest "That Guys" in Entertainment History. He's currently in the Top 25 on IMDb's "Most Acting Credits" list. 18:58 This is not my beautiful house. This is not my beautiful wife. 22:00 The ability of Jen and her Serious Girl Spectacles to groove to excellent TV Themes really reaffirms my conviction that she could do a Music Channel on the side.🤘
Any long running show that has a following like Seinfeld is so smart to react too. It's a guaranteed 40k - 50k view per vid , so you have 180 episodes divided by 4 is 45 total videos x 50k is 2.2 million almost guaranteed views just from one show.
That's not how statistics work at all. You're not factoring in "bad" episodes that people will skip, uploader consistency and viewership variation among many other things.
Hm, I never noticed that Elaine mentions "prison" in "The Revenge". Must re-watch the early ones, again. Thank you so much Jen, for creating excellent Seinfeld reactions!
The first episode is something that Larry David actually did when he was a writer at Saturday Night Live. He quit in spectacular fashion and then showed up the next day as if it didn’t happen.
Thor Eckman was played by the same guy who was Needle Nose Ned in GROUNDHOG DAY (1993), Stephen Tobolowsky. When these aired, and when I was nursing a bad hangover, I would tell people I had, "Alcohol Poisoning - with a twist of Lyme Disease" . Definitely continue, Jen - these issues , ancillary characters and plots develop quite interestingly throughout the show.
What's neat is last year there was a basketball game where the final score was Cleveland 117, San Antonio 109... exactly as this episode of Seinfeld proclaimed. lol
Kramer does not appear in "The Chinese Restaurant" episode. The studio hated that script and the fact the whole episode takes place in the restaurant. The studio wanted major changes but Larry David threatened to quit if the studio changed anything with the script. So the studio executives backed down and Larry got his way.
The Deal and The Baby Shower are both hilarious and at times, more relatable than I'd like to admit as an adult. Also, I think you could handle Rosemary's Baby. It's largely based on tension and quiet suspense, and I think you'd appreciate its themes.
Hang on Jen! I am waiting for season three to start. Larry David wrote most of episodes so far. He told in an interview that he was struggling a lot. I think it shows.
Larry David (co-creator of the show with Jerry) pops up all the time as random voices or random characters. Newman, who ends up being a different actor at some point was Larry David screaming from the 2nd floor at the end of 2 x 7. The actor on the tv at the start of 2 x 8 is Larry 11:33. 18:11 hey, it's the That's a doozey guy from Groundhog Day. It's not the reference, but Jim Carrey doesn't have a movie called The Cable Guy (1996) with him and Matthew Broderick, but it has a loaded cast.
I LOVE THIS! Please tell me you're going to react to the entire catalog! I think this show, is one of the BEST examples of genius sitcom writing and it's one of the few sitcoms that ACTUALLY make a person laugh out loud Roseanne is another one!
24:00 (Ackbar voice) "It's a Trap!" And that's for both of them. The "This" and the "That" are mutually exclusive, except in the rarest of cases. The "Other" pretty much always comes calling. 37:06 I feel like "The Cable Guy" storyline really helped to cement Seinfeld as a show the Network could build an evening around. 40:50 George may be high on the "A-hole Scale", but regarding the "Coward Scale", he's off the charts.
she got the early version, when larry david did the weird off-screen voice of newman. in the later versions wayne knight dubbed it over. there are also a couple cases where the Costanzas and the Seinfelds were different, or at least Morty and Frank were different actors. ultimately they have it all retconned and re-shot to have all the proper actors in their places.
Seinfeld is the single most important out of all that was before, and everything after. It's references to the classic world of the Renaissance, historic events, personalities like Freud and DaVinci, philosophy(the opposite), God......, you name it...
Me and my son went to Caesar's Palace Comedy Festival in Vegas. We saw Seinfeld, Eddie Izzard, Chris Rock, Dane Clark, Ellen Degeneres, and many more. I received amend it highly!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Don't know if you're into rap but Wale who's from Canada made an album featuring Jerry Seinfeld and signed off on him using samples in his intros and their actually good friends now. It's called "The album about nothing"
The show only gets better. It’s uh-mazing how long their top tier episodes lasted. I think from mid season 2 till season 8. I believe that’s when Larry David left. Even still I adore season 8 and 9. Some people think the concepts got a little zany but doesn’t bother me. And I don’t think watching in order is a must. If you watched reruns on upn at night, they would show 2-3 episodes every night. But they did them in weird orders. Meaning every episode Monday through Friday at 10 would be chronological and then every episode Monday through Friday at 10:30 would be chronological but usually a couple seasons off, so you end up with very different timelines and learned not to care about sequence.
What's your fav Season 2 ep?

So many good ones but going with the pony remark that episode had me cracking up
"The Deal"
Tough call, but I think I have to go with "The Baby Shower," just because the one-time date who confronts Jerry is amazing!
Ooooh, nice! Several episodes in one reaction! Always an enjoyable way to watch awesome shows😃love u guys’ channel by the way:)
Difficult, but I think I have to go with "The Revenge", I just love how George goes back to work as if nothing happened 🤣
Hi Jen! "The Revenge" is based on Larry David quitting, in spectacular fashion, as a writer at SNL and just going back to work without saying anything.
...and it worked. Dick Ebersol (SNL Producer at the time) didn't do a thing.
...and it was Kenny Kramer (the real life Kramer) that told Larry to just go back and pretend nothing happened.
And I've got a feeling Larry inspired the Mickey idea. Did he attempt or even think of doing this?
It’s also the episode where Jason Alexander stops trying to be Woody Allen and starts being George.
Jason Alexander mentioned to Larry David that it seemed unrealistic until Larry said it was based on a true story.
14:15 "Elaine.... What are YOU doing here?" - Turning a simple line into genius moment just by tone & delievery 👌🕵
When they were making Seinfeld they didn't know if it was going to be picked up for a 3rd season, so The Deal was meant to be the final episode of the show, where Jerry and Elaine got back together. "I sure as heckfire remember you!" Very underated character actor; he was good in Sneakers as well (plus a few thousand other appearances.)
@@NewbieInOttawa Thank you! Sneakers! It was driving me crazy trying to what movie I'd seen him in besides Groundhog Day.
Also brilliant as Stu Beggs in Californication. A regular character from season four onwards.
Bing!
You’re great for watching these in order. Reactors watching things randomly hurts me.
Agreed. And they even make up stupid excuses like "oh it's an episodic show, you're meant to jump in and out at random episodes" and I'm just sitting here like... no mfker, literally every tv show is episodic, that doesn't mean what you think it means.
In "The Baby Shower," the twist of Jerry's ghosted date getting the revenge George wanted is brilliant, and the actress hit a home run.
The dingo ate your baby!
the way she yells LIARRRR! is so hilarious 😂
Margaret Reed.
@@michaelhoward142 Is that the actress? She was great.

Watching someone that enjoys this humor is great entertainment!
'The Pen' is a must 👍
Don't know if you're into rap but Wale who's from Canada made an album featuring Jerry Seinfeld and signed off on him using samples in his intros and their actually good friends now. It's called "The album about nothing"
Almost every voice on the show where you dont see the person is Larry David!
The way you like how George is quitting his job is kinda funny
Thank you for doing this, Jen, I really enjoyed it. See you for Mad Max and Star Trek TNG Sunday too.
There is not one bad episode in the entire series. Please keep going. I'm loving watching you react. ❤️
The Tor Eckman scene, freaking epic.
Love that you're already doing callbacks, with the "He's flesh and blood!" comment
Later there will be a superman statue on Jerrys shelf, I have the same one.
