I tried that with my youngest two but they never got it lol or so I thought 🤔 turns out my daughter got shingles in her early 30's. The Dr said she got such a light case that we didn't know
My husband's mom would have him play with whomever was sick, he's pretty healthy at 67 now, too bad there's no cure for being a hypochondriacism though .. 🤔🎠🙃
I am 79 and am right now enduring a shingles outbreak on the right side of my face and head. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. I have never been in so much pain and it is absolutely horrible. My face is now unsightly and am having to wear a mask when I venture out. I am hoping and praying that it goes away asap. I had chicken pox as a child and have been under stress lately which likely contributed to this attack.
I got chicken pox in my third trimester with my second child. I got them from my older son. My OBGYN explained that the baby could be born with chicken pox but I could die. They helicoptered some serum to the hospital and I received 3 injections. I am happy to say we were both fine and I got the shingles vaccine as soon as I turned 50. I watched my grandmother and father suffer greatly with multiple bouts of shingles. And even though I am adopted I wasn’t taking any chances!
I am 78 and am in the middle of shingles! I have a very mild case with not much pain. I always thought that I never had the chickenpox but the doc assured me that I did! I also had taken the vaccine. Prayers for everyone that has this horrible condition 🙏🙏
Nope - the vaccine gave you shingles. Look up the incidence rate of this and you will see I am correct. You would definitely have known if you had chickenpox as a child.
If you have the rash, make a chamomile tea and wet a small towel and put it on the blisters, for 15 min. 2 to 3x per day. I did it for 7 days, I had no pain, no itch, and no scars.
I got shingles in my left eye in 2007 when I was 31 and after many surgeries and treatments, I got blinded in that eye for life. It is so rare, but it happened to me.
Im so sorry this happened to you! And especially when you were so young. I’m 66 and just (finally) getting over a pretty severe case of shingles in my head that started 3 months ago. My eyelids were really involved but I’ve seen an opthamologist twice and going again next week. Eye itself has been fine but I was able to get eyedrops very early in the process.
I had chickenpox at age 7. Imagine my surprise when my doctor - a primary care family doctor - asked why I thought I needed the shingles vaccine series at age 57. She said I'd be immune from shingles bc I'd had chickenpox. She is no longer my doctor, and yes, I DID get the vaccines.
So your old doc's not down with stupid pills 💊 yet! Morons all around, hubby had the vac, didn't know what was dormant in his bod and I informed him... 😊
Well that doctor wasn't too bright because if you've had chicken pox your more susceptible to get shingles down the road! Trust me I know from personal experience, I got shingles on my head and my right eyebrow. Not fun.
@@robinvarnadoe8429 Unless you get a natural booster when your kids and grandchildren get chickenpox. I'm 67 and shingles vax free (that's a really dangerous jab btw). And haven't had shingles, probably because my immune system is excellent due to no shots.
Thank you doctors. I developed Shingles on my face in 2019. I am a Registered Nurse in the States. I knew I had Shingles, thought I would lose my vision and went directly to me Ophthalmologist. He put me on the antiviral. I used lidocaine and Tylenol for pain and face oil to keep my face from getting dry and itchy, I asked my doctor about the vaccine and he recommended it 6 months post shingles. You better believe I got the vaccine 2 rounds of it. The first 6 months after I got the Shingles then another 1 year post Shingles. The Shingles hurt and I never want them again. I was under a lot of stress at the time. My mom had entered Hospice and died a few weeks later. It was really hard to have Shingles on top of all of that. My vision is fine! I was really lucky to have no eye involvement.
Wow. I had no idea shingles could affect vision. I am Deaf and my vision is extremely important to me. I now have cancer at 32 years old and apparently the stress from having cancer and its treatments can trigger shingles. I had chicken pox so bad I was hospitalised. I am absolutely deathly afraid of sharps so I have been putting off the vaccine. I didn’t have the covid vaccine either. Now I am worried for my vision so I might go and get this vaccine(if I can at my age in my country)! I am so sorry you lost your mum like that.
When I got shingles around age 42 I had it on my forehead and was worried about the the vision thing myself, they say if it the rash travels to the tip, your nose you got real problems. I got both types of shingles vaccines.
@@iSheree no, got it several years before I got vaccinated, even the latest Shingles vaccine isn’t 100% effective , its about 90% effective, but even if you did get it after getting vaccinated, your symptoms would be much better
@@BK-wm1tg According to research, I am not eligible for the vaccines here in Australia. I think I am too young (32) but I have cancer and people with cancer can get shingles. I might need to ask my doctor. Hope you’re ok now and fully recovered from it.
I had shingles 5 years ago, at 40. I also have ME/CFS meaning I didn't even notice it due to the pain being the same I already had daily. The only thing that gave it away was the intense itching and red bumps. The Doctor dismissed it at first, then asked a colleauge and I got the diagnose. I had chicken pox, fairly normal, nothing big. My brother on the other hand had to spend a week in hospital since the rash was everywhere, including inside his throat. Many people don't even consider the fact that it can be fatal.
My Wife also had shingles in June 2023, Lucky she was in the ER for our son( cancer issues) she had a sharp pain in her back/ thought it was a spider bite. ER Nurse looked at the red spot and told her. It wasn't a bite, she had shingles, she saw our Family Dr. the next day and started treatment. Two weeks later she had to go too NYC with our son and we were glad she was over most of it. Thank You for your knowledge and giving your time to make these videos. (Wife: Blessed Be to You).
I’m a 61yo male with shingles in C3 dermatome (neck) right now. You guys covered this perfectly. I started valacyclovir on day 1 of the rash with excellent effect. Rash didn’t spread further and pain is all but gone on day 4. Definitely planning to get vaccinated in the future!
Thanks sir for the information i got shingles from yesterday since i live in village and no expert doctors here so can i take this medicine without doctor's prescription?
I finished the shingrix shots a couple of months ago and i did feel sick with both doses but I’m glad to be done. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your wife!!
@@Heartfelt-zv7whI just had the first one. My arm was really sore for 2 days. Within an hour of the injection, I was feeling queasy and head-achy. The queasiness didn’t cause vomiting but was uncomfortable.
Had shingles last October 2022. Same as your wife, felt pain internally. Didn’t look at skin and went to see Family doc and he said “lift your shirt” poof , the red rash was front to back. Now 11 months later skin in affected area is still numb, ugh, nasty virus. Waited 6 months and had the 2 shingles virus shots spaced apart in hopes of that nastiness NOT happening again.
My husband had severe back pain running on the left side of stomach and legs for the past three weeks. Until the doctor gave him in injection and after 3 hours the rash showed up. For two days we thought it was an allergy. The third day doctor confirmed shingles. The pain was so excruciating. It's the 3 week now. Had sleepless nights inspite of.meda.
I am a 57 year old female and had chicken pox in 4th grade. I also got shingles when I was 50 yrs old. I had it on my right side mid-section, front to back. I believe it was brought on by the stress of my daughter going off to college. I have not gotten a shingles vaccine, but feel I need to after you and others said that I can get it again! Thank you😊👍🏼
Great video. I have had shingles 4 times on the left side of my body. Head, face, shoulder, and down my leg. I'm in my 60's and not vaccinated. So just be aware you can get them more than once.
Oh my! How awful for you. My mom had a terrible outbreak right over her chest where she had a mastectomy from cancer. The area was still sore from the radiation. It put her in the hospital for 2 weeks. I can’t imagine the pain you had to deal with 4 times 😮. I hope it doesn’t come back. I just had my first vaccine.
I’ve been told that while you can get shingles more than once, you’ll never repeat in exactly the same place, in my teens, it was on my leg. At 44 it was face, head, ear and inside my mouth, where it was first diagnosed. Agonizing!
I have always had them on my right side. Once on my head, face and ear. I've had them on my right leg twice and then on my back around my shoulder blade. The last time was the worst, which was just this year in March.
@@joanbeauregard9338 I’ve had it twice. On the left side of my face including the eye the first time and in my eye only the second time. Opthalmologist said I have scarring from the first round that had flared up.
I didn’t get chicken pox until I was in my mid 30’s. My children gave it to me. We all had it at the same time. Luckily my husband had it as a child and was able to look after us.
A year ago when i turned 51,i got both shingles vaccines and had a excessive reaction to both, flu like symptoms, pain and a rash where i got the vaccine. But i am glad i got them.
A subset of shingles is Ramsay Hunt Syndrome RHS is when shingles appears in a cranial nerve. I had this in 2018. For the first 10 days the only symptom I had was extreme vertigo and an ear ache that had no outward appearance of anything wrong. Toward day 10 other symptoms such as burnt feeling on my my tongue. And finally on day 13 the right half of my face was paralyzed. It was at that point I went into the Hospital and it took 5 doctors to determine RHS. Because one tiny vesticle was just starting to show way inside my ear. And as mentioned because I didn’t have the correct medication I was severely injured by how long the disease ran rampant. Please everyone be aware of this version of shingles. So ocular shingles isn’t the ONLY critical shingles on the head. I was diagnosed at 51!! Other symptoms include loss of taste, hemifacial paralysis (Bell’s palsy). I have permanent balance damage. I lost hearing in the affected ear and have permanent facial paralysis!!! Please learn about and share information about RAMSAY HUNT SYNDROME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Three years ago I had shingles without the rash. It was one of the most painful things I’ve ever gone through. Not getting a rash is very rare but it was awful! My skin was so sensitive that I couldn’t lay down to sleep for several nights. I tried to sleep sitting up because there was so much pain. I have since gotten the shingles vaccine because I NEVER want to go through this again.
I am currently going their the vet same thing no rash but very painful on my left side front to back of spine. I to will be getting the vaccine for sure.
I was one of the few people I have ever known that had shingles when I was just 25 y.o. I was a young mother of a child with a genetic life-threatening disease, worked full time and went to night school. No big surprise, I was stressed and run down. It was awful. Not only the pain at the site of the rash, but I had a splitting headache for days, and just generally felt awful. Hard when you have a toddler. This was in the '70's, so not treatment of any kind back then. Just was told I had to live with it until it passed. EGAD! That event was actually what convinced me to start running and take better care of myself. Still running at almost 70. Thank you shingles. 😆
11 years ago my Dad had shingles. I was 42 at the time and had not had chicken pox (my parents didn’t believe in pox parties due to the possible risks). I caught the virus from my Dad even though we were very careful (we didn’t realize just how contagious it is). When I was 50 they approved a vaccine for 50 and over so I got it right away. I didn’t want to go through what my Dad went through (his shingles was over his neck and side of his face, but stopped just before his eye), he was in so much pain! Thank you for another great video!
Yikes! Going for my shingles vaccine 💉 this coming Monday! Thanks for this video doctors. It’s been on my list to get, but I’ve been procrastinating, not anymore! Be safe everyone.
Thank you. Yayyy I went this past Thursday, the vaccine hurt a little, the nurse said I could pinch her leg. Lol. And she talked me into the flu vaccine. Pin cushion or what? Haha My arms were sore for a few days & the shingles arm was itchy on the last day for a couple hours. I scratched once and ignored. It went away. Nurse said 2nd vaccine will be in 3 months. Happy Sunday all, so far very good 👍🏼 @@TalkingWithDocs
My mother contracted meningitis 50 years ago and was gravely ill. Went to doc and immediately knew & asked my mother if been around livestock particularly horses and she had been riding few days earlier. 1 shot since & still kicking
Informative and well delivered- thanks. My brother got shingles in his eyes. Terrible, awful nerve pain in the head. He said it feels like lightening striking your brain. Knowing there’s a vaccine and he didn’t take it is also painful! I will be sending this video to all my family and friends who fall into that age range. Thank you!
My husband had a few blisters on his head we thought it could be flea bites it was sore and started to spread,he woke up next morning with a swollen eye so we managed to contact optician who diagnosed allergy a few days later and getting worse insisted on seeing GP who diagnosed shingles immediately so not all health professionals understand the symptoms I work in pharmacy and have diagnosed shingles before but this just started with a few blisters that did look like bites😢
A good friend got it in his eyes, head and side of his face. He finally recovered but it was pretty darn lousy. He was 50. Not sure what precipitated it. We had just come out of the Covid shut down but as a police officer, he had to work, but very carefully. I'm sure that was darn stressful. Good luck for a good and solid recovery.
I had a neighbor who was in her 70’s and she had a terrible bout of shingles. I asked her if she got the vaccine shot and she said she did but she still got it.
I said the same thing when i had shingles on my face, in my mouth and ear! Complicated by Ramsey- Hunt syndrome. Agonal pain. When everyone was criticizing late Senator Dianne Feinstein for failing to appear in Congress for a long stretch because she had the same kind of bout, all i could think was, if the critics only knew!
I am a 68 year old and have not had chicken pox. I did get the vaccine for chicken pox recently. My husband has had shingles but fortunately I was not affected. He has since had the shingles vaccine.
A friend in high school had shingles at 15. She had nerve damage in her hands and lower arms. She has not had a reoccurrence in 50 years now. My husband and I did get our shots this year. I hope your wife feels better soon
Last year my husband got shingles on his face in his eye. It spread on his face to the point his skin died. He got encephalitis. He was on life support for 10 days before we let him go because there was no hope for a normal life. He was 66 years old. Please get your shots. My husband hadn't gotten his yet.
Oh! I am so sorry. My deepest condolences, Kimberly. I am 79 and am recovering from ocular shingles. Symptoms started end June, but didn't have a clue what it was, no rash initially Long story short, had to go in hospital for over a week of IV acyclovir. I'm home, but my eye and surrounding skin still hurt and sting. Thankfully the scabs are gone and skin is clear. May your husband rest in peace.
I'm so sorry about your husband. I have just had shingles of the scalp, forehead and left eyelid...I was very scared after the Doctor warned me about possible complications. I was put on strong antivirals for seven days which I think really helped. I'm so glad that people like these doctors are making everyone aware of this nasty, potentially life threatening illness - as so many people still think of it as a cold or something only old people get. Also my son had shingles at nine years old...
This is a very painful situation. Had it 6 years ago in july and I still have pain. It was the whole left side of my face and it was close to my left eye, so the skin doctor decided together with another doctor to admit me in the hospital . I was so ill, I didn’t care what happened, just that somebody took care of the pain. And I still have pain, post herpetic pain and get nerve block treatment for that. If I had known there was a possibility to prevent getting this illness I would have taken it. So please if you can, take that . Getting to be that ill is terrible.
I had the "worse case of shingles" a level 1 trauma center ER doctor, and my primary doctor has ever seen. 5 dermatomes; T5 on down. Misdiagnosed for about a week. Still having effects 3 and a half months later.
oh no! SO sorryto hear that!! Hope if gets better soon for you...UGH. Shingles is no joke...so painful and the rash looks bad but it is deceiving...because internal pain it worse
I had knee replacement surgery on August 16th (Have enjoyed your videos related to this), and two weeks post op I developed shingles on the right side of my face which has affected my right eye (sensitivity, teary, pain at times). I was on an antivirul medication for 7 days, and also gabapentin prescribed for my knee. The lesions are almost cleared up, but skin sensitivity remains and occasional pain. My eye is not as sensitive to the light but can get watery at times. thanks for this video! I found it helpful.
Take aciclovir asp even if they say it’s to late, had the same , looks mild same symptoms, got worse, almost lost vision ,they said never going to restore my vision. Eventually they sand me to an eye surgeon and he just gave me aciclovir.Took me 5 years and 10 eye doctors to find the right one❤, and another five years to heal now can see building and read perfectly
I was diagnosed with shingles with pain on my left side into my back and itch. I did not have a rash and got to my doc by 60 hrs and was put on the meds and never got the rash but the pain and itch were there. This was a month ago and the one spot on my left side where it started still gives me pain. This was a great video, took some of my fears away.
Currently going through Shingles, age 35 and immunocompromised (for treatment of Crohn's disease). Started out as intense flank pain on my right side. I almost never take pain meds normally, and the pain was so intense it had me reaching for an old vicodin prescription in my medicine cabinet. Went to a doctor who checked my urine, said it's back pain and sent me home with an Rx for muscle relaxers. Literally the say after I started getting a rash at my backside, which I at first thought was from agitation from running my heat pad so much for the back pain. But the rash kept spreading and spreading and exploded across the right side of my body (front and back, very sporadically on my side). Finally I reached out to a doctor again who immediately knew what it was and prescribed me Acyclovir. Thankfully the initial flank pain is mostly gone and pain from the rash has so far been manageable, even though by surface area it's covering a pretty big area of my back. Thank you for the video, very informative! Wish I had this information a little sooner 😭
I had pox when 34 and it was truly horrid, I remember having a bath was amazing, as being able to float made it so easy to move, I was so weak normally
33 here and in on set week of my shingles.. Had this stabbing paing both in front and back. I thought it was just muscle pain. On 2nd day, since it is very painful, I tried to use pain releif patch then it devolop rash. That night i can't sleep the whole night due to severe pain. Visited my doctor on 3rd day and confirmed it as shigles.. Now taking acyclovir and high pain releivers but still it is painful. Hopefully it will stop. It disrupts my work and work everday. Fighting to get better.
Laughter is the best medicine . Thank you . I've had shingles down my left side for 2 months now , bummer . I don't take any medication but when it all gets too much to bear during my day I lay down on the left side where the shingles is having it's party and the pressure completely stops the pain and I feel reasonably comfortable for some time afterwards.
I was a child that attended a chicken pox party thanks to my Mother, when I was 4 years old in 1964 and did get them, so did my brother. When I was 56 years old, under some heavy stress, I got shingles out of the blue and it came on with a fury. THE WORST PAIN EVER, aside from child birth that is. It was on the top of my head trailing into my eyes. Had to go to eye doctor to make sure the shingles weren't shedding in my eye, at the time, they were not. It lasted 3 weeks, horrible intense pain, headache, nausea, light hurt my eyes, blurred vision, fever, just wanted to sleep. After it was over, I found out I got glaucoma. Now at 64 years old, I STILL have itching at the site where the shingles were the worst, at my forehead hairline. I know it looks like I have bugs as I scratch frequently, but it feels genuinely like millions of ants or spiders crawling on my head in that spot - 8 years after having shingles. The nerve affected by the shingles are still not right. may never be the same. Definite damage. No People, you definitely never, ever want shingles. On a good note; I did read somewhere that those around me during that time, are now exposed to it and their immune systems are acquainted with the virus and can (hopefully) prevent them from getting it.
I never had chicken pox and participated in chicken pox party. My kids had chicken pox but I didn't. My doctor gave me the shingles vaccine and I got shingles for a few days with the fist shot.
Born in and living in Ontario. I've had chicken pox. I just had a non related visit to my GP recently and he indicated something I didn't know. The Shingles vaccine I received years ago is due to be administered again. I didn't know the Shingle vaccine I received years ago needed to be administered again and now comes in two doses. Thanks for sharing Docs.
I'm so sorry about your wife, Dr Weening! Hope she gets over this quickly! I had chicken pox as a kid and so did my brother and sister. The only illness we had at the same time was mumps. Now as seniors, none of us have gotten shingles. I've been reading through the comments and I'm shocked at the age so many have had shingles! Some even in their 30's. I understand that once you've had chicken pox, you have the virus that can cause shingles. I'm glad I don't have a story to share about having shingles. I appreciate how you're always giving us important information! Best of luck to Mrs Weening! Thanks for sharing another great video!👍
My daughter has not had chicken pox yet and I got shingles. When they first started it was red, little bit itchy, and it had just started looking like blisters. I went to the dr right away and was prescribed some meds for it. He said I was lucky I caught it very quick so the meds helped very quickly.
Good morning, Doctors! First, thank you for all your TKR vids. My Ortho Doc released me after one year check-up. All your info helped me heal as well as possible! Got dose 1 of the 2 dose vaccine last May. Three days later, I had shingles symptoms on the outside of my left thigh. I am one of the "lucky" ones that had a reaction. It was a wake-up to those that have not vaccinated yet. A minor case of shingles symtoms is STILL way better than the full-blown version! My leg cleared up in about a month, and I will get dose 2 at the end of September. Hope I don't get a reaction then, but if I do I will deal with it. Keep up the great topic selection. They all all interesting! Bob
I am elderly and when I was a kid I came down with chicken pox AND measles at the same time. The doctor CAME TO OUR HOUSE and gave me a shot. What this has to do with shingles I don't know but there you go!
Had shingles 5 years ago. Biggest problem was getting to sleep. I found that cold water directed at affected area dulled the pain long enough for me to fall asleep. Other symptoms, after the pain subsided ,included extreme fatigue, e.g, falling asleep while eating breakfast
My MIL and father both had nasty cases of shingles. My husband and I got vaccines as soon as they were available to us. Cost us around $200 each (This was several years ago) but we felt it was well worth it. Shingles is no joke.
I got chicken pox as a high school kid. Gosh, was I sick! I got shingles the first time in my early 30s. I had a young nursling and the pain was in the 'let down' nerves. Oh gosh, i wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. The second time I got shingles was in my mid-50s; got it on my face near my eye. I'm too young for the vaccine. My co-worker ended up needing a corneal transplant due to shingles! I'm grateful to say that while shingles was painful, I never got the neuralgia.
My 2 sisters and me had chicken pox, We were all home from school for 2 weeks Lucky mom..I got shingles on the left side of head and face. Got meds from MD. Had to watch it so it wouldn't go into my eye. I had a full recovery. Thanks doctors.
I had shingles around my eye but no damage to the eye. I was surprised at how sick I felt. My daughter had it when she was twenty which shocked our family doctor. My case was directly related to stress. The stress has increased but I'm hoping I don't get it again. Sometimes "chilling out" isn't possible. I hope your wife starts to feel better soon.
I’m 23 and was just diagnosed today with shingles on my right eye/ forehead/scalp. My scalp burns so much to the touch, and the shooting pain I felt was a level of pain I have never felt before. Overnight the “pimple” on my forehead turned into a full on rash on my forehead, scalp and eye. My eye was completely swollen this morning. The lady at urgent care yesterday told me it was cellulitis and put me on antibiotics, but the ER nurse told me to stop taking it and advised it would not help me. They gave me a steroid shot/pills, antiviral medication, and pain medication. Hoping it heals quickly. Sorry to hear about your girl. I hope you both never experience shingles again!!
I’m currently battling shingles for 10 days now. It has manifested across my left shoulder (front and back) and up the side of my neck. The pain is brutal. Can’t sleep. Constant shooting pain even with a round the clock ibuprofen and acetaminophen regimen. I pray for anyone in my shoes. 🙏🏻 I’ve been on Valtrex since the first day of rash. Rash is healing, but nerve pain is relentless!
Prayers for you. Please pray for me because my head is covered with shingles. It feels like bugs crawling under your skin that's on fire and you itch so horrible, and the pain is unbearable.
I had shingles under my arm pit running down my arm to my elbow, across the top of my chest and down my shoulder blade. The pain was so intense that I felt my arm was being ripped off. That was three years ago. I am still feeling pain and itching under my arm. Shingles are a curse.
Las hierbas del Doctor Ani John curaron mi virus de la culebrilla después de años de luchar con diversos tratamientos. Doy gracias a Dios por mi recuperación inmediata
I got incredibly unlucky at a very young age. I got shingles down my left arm at age 12, right before Christmas too. It was after some VERY stressful events, so my immune system was worn down.
I am 25 and was completely shocked when my Doctor had said I developed Shingles; it’s extremely uncomfortable; especially when clothing rubs against it
I love the way that you guys present things. I'm 78, have had Shingles, and have had two vaccines since. One of the things on my bucket list is "to never have shingles again". Nasty stuff! Thanks for this channel.
I have shingles. I am seventy. SO painful. I took the antiviral for a week. The side effects of the gabapentin med seem very scary to me especially since I have long covid. I used to be very healthy and active with a huge front yard garden. I just barely started the gabapentin because the ER dr did not prescribe it. Primary care did over the phone. Feeling lost. Please please help.
I had shingles at age 7. I had awful painful blisters that circled my lower back leaving horrible burn like scaring. It is so painful and I still have a vivid memory of shingles 50 years later.
I had shingles in my 50's along my thoracic nerve. The pain was worse than child birth. I recall having an area on my back that was sensitive for few wks prior to the rash showing up. Took all of the meds you mentioned but intense pain lasted for 9 mos. I still experience skin sensitivity when my bra hits a tender spots. I believe stress is what lead to my shingles. I had the new shingles vaccine & actually a lot of my friends signed up for the vaccine after watching me suffer.
If stress causes shingles, I should’ve had shingles for most of my life. I haven’t, and I’m really glad. I took the two shots recently, and I’m hoping my wife will do the same. We’ve had enough health issues without going through what you describe.
Thank you doc's, im 74yrs old, didn't get chicken pox when my 8 siblings did, but 70 yrs later got shingles under my left armpit. Lasted 9 weeks of so much pain. had NHS carers twice a day to clean and aply dressing. Shingles appared in February 2023 with no pain just itching, tiniest red spots and couple days later lots of pain bleeding and green gunge.. September now still getting low leval pain and "electric" stabs. Hope it stays away...
I got a rash over a month ago, (while on vacation, and yes, I had been under a lot of stress & depression) at first it looked like little raised dots, similar to being bitten by an ant or spider several times. After about a week it looked worse, so I went to a pharmacy and the pharmacist said they thought it was shingles. It was uncomfortable, sometimes, but not awful. The next day went to a hospital walk in clinic. The Doctor didn't think it was shingles because it was on one side, but I had showed him under my arm were a few pimple looking spots (I think from heat) so he said it can't be on both sides. Prescribed a steroid cream and penicillin, saying it was a rash that got infected. It did start to look better. When I got home and showed my Dr she said it was shingles and prescribed an antibiotic cream. It has gotten better, but the places where the blisters were is deep and a thick scab grew, which seemed worse. I stopped the anitbiotic cream and started just using vaseline. The scabs fell off and it is very slowly looking better, but I think it will have a scar. I would say that the pain is worse now, just on the spot on the right front, just below my breast. Not all the the time, but many times a day . I am going to get a vaccine, but should I wait for awhile? I've also put off doing a mamogram just because I don't want anything touching that area. Any suggestions about when to get a vaccine?
My husband got shingles around 45. Started as a pain in his back. He used a heating pad and the next day he got red patches then blisters that got really big so we went to the burn clinic, thinking he had burns from the pad. After an exam by a younger Dr. The Dr in charge came in and said it was shingles and sent us to the ER in the same hospital just a “private” hallway. They gave him one of the drugs you mentioned and gabapentin.
I had shingles around my left eye. I was immediately referred to an Ophthalmologist. I was given anti-viral. Very painful but pain eventually went away. Eyesight was not damaged. I got the shingles vaccine and still need to get the booster.
I didn’t know if I’d had chicken pox (no symptoms ever) so I got tested and had really antibodies so I had it at some point. I got the shingles vaccines a couple of years ago, fortunately, my insurance covered them completely.
Hi! I was 36 when Shingles paid me a visit. We were getting to go on a trip to celebrate my hubby beating cancer. My workplace had heaped lots of work on me two days before we left and I was overwhelmed trying to finish it all. The first day felt real tired….long story short had the rash showed up on my left shoulder blade and felt like I was being stabbed with a dull knife every 30 seconds to 1 minute for 4 weeks. Going to a doctor when I wasn’t at home in Canada was a bit scary too (it was our first cruise…super expensive to visit Sick Bay). During the week we were on board the ship, I also had a lung infection and a bladder infection too due to my immune system being AWOL. I visited Sick Bay every morning to monitor what was going on. Had phantom pain in my shoulder for 6 months. Every once and awhile when stress starts, I pause, remember the Shingle pain then calm down. Thanks for getting the word out about the vaccine 💉 as it really just isn’t an “old people’s disease”. Hope your wife feels better soon! Thanks also your all the knowledge you two freely share with us. ❤️
I had shingles when I was 18. Extreemly rare case for me. Started off with quite distinct pimple looking bumps on my face which then actually turned out to be blisters as time went on. They were extreemly painful, as if insects are pinching my face in waves. At that point I went to the doctor and he diagnosed it pretty fast and gave me antiviral tablets and creams to ease the pain. During the week I was on it my fave swelled up really bad, and I had blisters everywhere on my face(on the right side). Shingles mostle affect one side of a body part. Eventually, the swelling went down and the blisters dried up. I then had scars for about 3 months. But they cleared up. But, I still have a scar to this day because I tried scratching one of the blisters when I had no idea it was, and thought it was a pimple.
I have never had chicken pox or shingles. Im 50 amd considering getting the vaccine within the next couple of months. I had my children vaccinated and they have never had chicken pox as well. They are all adults. This video was mich needed for me
Hmmm. I had chicken pox as a child, shingles in my 20s and shingles in my ear at about 60! This led to Bells Palsy as well as Ramsay Hunt syndrome. My Doctor could not believe I had both at the same time! Something he had never heard of before. Thankfully I regained about 95% of my facial movement so I was very lucky. It wasn’t a walk in the park!
My first husband, my mom, her sister...all had shingles. Mom's morphed into gall bladder disease...I flew out East to care for her. She needed to regain her strength. I fed her, did what I could .
My husband has had shingles 3 times over several years! Every time he came down with shingles he was scheduled for some type of surgery the following week. First it was hip replacement, then cleaning out his carotid artery, finally removing spurs on his spine at the neck. He always got a mild attack without any pain, but it's become a family joke over the years. He has had the latest shingles vaccine, but it doesn't seem to work for him.
You do not want shingles. My experience was relatively mild and short-lived, as shingles go… and still it was horrible. I can’t get the vaccine until next year, and still I’ll be there for it at the earliest possible moment. ❤
Been there done that…. Actually I had shingles in my mouth. I had to swish around something in my mouth so I could kill the pain before I could eat. I few years later I go the shot also so that hopefully I never go through that again…
I’m 57 and had shingles. It was extremely painful. I ended up having shingles on my left shoulder where I had shoulder surgery. I thought I was experiencing pain just from the surgery after a year , but than I started getting a rash on my shoulder. So when I went to the doctor that’s when I was diagnosed with shingles. I had to weigh it out for a month. It was HORRIBLE !! The pain was excruciating!! I will definitely be getting my vaccine because I do not want a recurrence.
When my daughter was little, she had the vaccine. Then when she was 7 or 8, she ended up with Shingles. No one expects a child to get shingles, so it took several weeks for an accurate diagnosis. I felt so sorry for her. Her immunity was down due to bad asthma, and multiple meds with lots of steroid use.
My youngest was 16months old when we first went into lockdown... she has never had chicken pox.. my eldest (age11) has just come out with shingles! Guess she's gonna be getting it now!
I just got the double shingles vaccine! It was expensive to get the two shots on my Medicare plane before this year! Like $400 per shot!!!! But now they made it free….yes!
I had chicken pox my senior year in high school. Immune compromised with Crohn’s disease diagnosed when I was 25yrs old and then came down with Shingles at age 45. It is terribly painful!!!! My shingles did come back but not as severe as the first time thankfully! I’m 63 now and feeling pretty good most of the time 😊 Thank you guys for all your very informative videos, I enjoy your humor. 😂 U.S. viewer.
Las hierbas del Doctor Ani John curaron mi virus de la culebrilla después de años de luchar con diversos tratamientos. Doy gracias a Dios por mi recuperación inmediata.
I had chicken pox as a child. I remember way back around 1980, we had a young man with a severe case of chicken pox on a ventilator in the ICU where I worked.
I, had shingles last year, aged 60. I'm sure it was caused by stress. I had blisters left sided on my head and in my face, including eye lid. Fortunately the inside of my eye wasn't affected. This caused my worst ever head aches including nausea and fever. I was prescribed anti viral medicine and over the counter pain killers. I didn't feel that any of the medicine relieved my symptoms. I probably went to the doctor too late (about 3 days after the first symptoms). The worst pain and the blisters cleared up over about 10 days but some symptoms like itchiness on the left side of my scalp which caused pain when scratching, remained for several months.
I had the same thing, but it got into my eye & I was a total mess ! Took forever to heal, but as of today ( 3 1/2 years later) I still suffer from intense itching, numbness all over right side of my face, hairline from forehead to just over my right ear. AWFUL . Dr said since it's been this long, I'll probably have this for the rest of my life ! Many treatments, creams & eye drops help some, but again , will have to use the rest of my lifetime.
Shingles can be a nasty disease with serious and long lasting symptoms. I had no idea about it before I got it. However, the symptoms can still improve and eventually disappear, even after several years. I think you should stay optimistic, despite of what your doctor said. @@JanetVaughn-cm3et
I’m 59 and WOW, was I shocked when the doc diagnosed me. I finished my medication two days ago. Thank you for helping me understand this painful virus. After the 4-5 weeks of patience, will the rash eventually all disappear?
I had shingles as a teen around my midsection. I remember it itching and being very painful. I remember overhearing an adult say if it went all the way around and met it would kill you. Glad to be educated on why it effects one side. I inquired about the vaccine but at the time there wasn’t enough data on someone already having had them.
I had shingles as a teen also! It was only around my midsection. It could have been triggered by stress. I spoke with a pharmacist at CVS and they said that the teen episode of shingles makes it more likely for me to get it, and severe. I had my first Shingles vaccine today! The next one is in Nov.
i have the shingles now. its going away. At least the rash. just left with scabs and scars. its been almost a month. However, every night when i sleep the pain comes back severely. not so much during the day. but my lord its painful. i hope the pain subsides at some point. I haven't been able to sleep well at all.
I just got over shingles on my cheek, front of neck, back of neck abd up into the scalp. I had a weird sensation on my left side behind my ear for a few days but didn't think anything of it. Then I had a few bumps behind my ear the looked like bites. The next day there was quite a few more abd I thought it was an eczema flare up . The next day they became more like blisters and I knew it was shingles. Went to urgent care and got on Acyclovir asap. The rash lasted over 2 weeks but I ended up with Post Herpatic Neuralgia which lasted a few more weeks. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. If you are due for a shingles vaccine do not put it off!!
@@TalkingWithDocs I still have sensitivity behind my ear which I can live with! But the PHN was no joke! Very informative video as always! Thanks so much.
Thanks for this video. I got about 3 spots of chicken pox as a child, but in my early 50s, I got shingles on my head. It was incredibly painful, like a knife going into my head. Stabbing pains for weeks and extremely tender scalp. Not something I wish to experience again lol
Everything ive read and heard says shingles isnt contagtious. But I was staying with my daughter when i realized i had shingles and she just looked at my back for me. Didnt tough anything. And she got shingles about a week later.
Thank you so much for another excellent explanation. I contracted Mylofibrosis, had a stem cell transplant, now good (my blood dna is now Germs from the donor), but I contracted Shingles last year painful as you say, I was already taking a low dose of Acicolvir but it didn’t help, but I’ve just had Shingrix the non-live vaccine. No-one explained Shingles to me, your video is perfect and I wish I knew all this before to help me manage the condition.👍
My doctor recommended quite strongly I get the zoster vaccination and I promised that I would make an appointment. I never did and got Covid and guess what arrived a week later. I thought it was a super, horrible bad case of cold sores, but no, it was shingles. That was a month ago and my skin is still red because the infection was so bad and the scabbing was so severe, it took layers off and the skin on my face is red because it is new skin. I'm getting the vaccine next week. If anyone reads this and you are at an age where your chickenpox immunity is no more...run, don't walk and get the shot. You don't want shingles. Believe me, you don't.
Guess I was one of the lucky, unlucky ones. I had shingles for four weeks and it was a rash on my back that hurt for about three days and then just an annoying itch for two weeks.
My mother, grandmother, aunts, etc. have all gotten shingles so I made sure I got the vaccine. The first shot didn't bother me in the least but the second, kicked me hard! I didn't break out, but I even had a fever. That all lasted a good week. My mother had a very severe case of shingles. Her entire torso, both front and back, both sides, and down both arms were covered. It took months for all the blisters to heal, and she was left with a lot of scaring. My mother had permanent nerve damage (Postherpetic neuralgia you mentioned) that lasted for the rest of her life. She was unable to take warm showers and certain material in her clothing caused pain. After seeing her, my grandmother, and others suffer, I made sure I got the vaccine. I sure hope I never get it or anyone else!
Thank you, I sure tried to care for her. I miss her so much, but I would never wish her to leave heaven and come back here. That would be the ultimate act of selfishness on my part because she had a lot of problems and was in constant pain. Now she's with Jesus and free.
You just cracked me up. I got chicken poxes at 7 years old and my mom allowed all my friends to come and hang out. We all had chicken poxes.
I tried that with my youngest two but they never got it lol
or so I thought 🤔
turns out my daughter got shingles in her early 30's. The Dr said she got such a light case that we didn't know
Party!

Agree it's scary
My mom got them when she was pregnant with me also
I am 78 and am in the middle of shingles! I have a very mild case with not much pain. I always thought that I never had the chickenpox but the doc assured me that I did! I also had taken the vaccine. Prayers for everyone that has this horrible condition 🙏🙏
I am so sorry!!! 😢
I have shingles I went to the hospital. You had the vaccine and got shingles.Mine is very bad on my shoulder I can't reach to put ointment.
Nope - the vaccine gave you shingles. Look up the incidence rate of this and you will see I am correct. You would definitely have known if you had chickenpox as a child.
You probably have turkey pox.
@@decide2day815 I hope and pray that you pull through.
Wow so sorry to hear that. Thank you for sharing your story so other people can potentially get the vaccine because of it
Wow! I had shingles on my eye in 1976, at age 18, and thankfully my vision was ok. I remember having chicken pox in grade 1.
I’m so sorry this happened to you.
Most of us born in the 1950’s had chicken pox, passed on from brother to sister.
Good thing you changed doctors!!
Good and good…
Well that doctor wasn't too bright because if you've had chicken pox your more susceptible to get shingles down the road! Trust me I know from personal experience, I got shingles on my head and my right eyebrow. Not fun.
@@robinvarnadoe8429
Unless you get a natural booster when your kids and grandchildren get chickenpox.
@@BK-wm1tg wait you got shingles despite vaccinations? :(
@@iSheree no, got it several years before I got vaccinated, even the latest Shingles vaccine isn’t 100% effective , its about 90% effective, but even if you did get it after getting vaccinated, your symptoms would be much better

I was born in 1963 and also believe I got shingles due to stress. The stressor was an ex-girlfriend.

It is brutal
Read my post above yours. Unfortunately the Shingles vaccine will not guarantee that you will never get Shingles again.
I am currently going their the vet same thing no rash but very painful on my left side front to back of spine. I to will be getting the vaccine for sure.
Oh no! I’m so sorry ! I hope you recovered quickly ! How did you know you had shingles since the rash didn’t come out ?
I’m so sorry 😢. How did doctors diagnose you if the rash didn’t appear ?
I've had chicken pox, I saw my sister in law, my adult daughter and my mother go through shingles. I'm in my late 50s, I got both my shots this year!
So awesome. Great work
11 years ago my Dad had shingles.

My sister was diagnosed by her pediatrician with shingles around 1970. She had never had chicken pox until I gave it to her in 1973.
Hmm that's curious.

@@tanyalobakova5098Aciclovir is exactly what I took for 7 days. Glad to hear that after that very long haul you’ve recovered!
I have had shingles two separate times. It is the worst pain ever. Absolutely Horrible!

just had shingles across my forehead, right side of my face and right eye. It was the most painful experience I have ever gone through.
Alle sagen nur, dass es weh tut. Aber was sind das für schmerzen?
Sorry to hear this. It is truly brutal. Hang in there
I had pox when 34 and it was truly horrid, I remember having a bath was amazing, as being able to float made it so easy to move, I was so weak normally
I lost hearing after shingles related to the vaccine.
My son who has Crohn’s disease got shingles. The vaccine was not available when he was growing up. Much love to you!
I got shingles when I was 5.
@@lisavinson3604 Ouch! That had to have been painful at 5!😟
My daughter has not had chicken pox yet and I got shingles.

Wow that's rough
My 2 sisters and me had chicken pox, We were all home from school for 2 weeks Lucky mom..I got shingles on the left side of head and face. Got meds from MD. Had to watch it so it wouldn't go into my eye. I had a full recovery. Thanks doctors.
Wow glad you are ok
I had shingles around my eye but no damage to the eye. I was surprised at how sick I felt. My daughter had it when she was twenty which shocked our family doctor. My case was directly related to stress. The stress has increased but I'm hoping I don't get it again. Sometimes "chilling out" isn't possible. I hope your wife starts to feel better soon.
Get the vaccination right away. You can get it again.
I have one right now and it's horrible . The pain is excruciating . Thank you for the information keep it up doctors❤❤
Got the shingles vaccine series!
Hope your wife feels better soon, Dr Weening!!
Thanks Cindy!
Any side effects?
@@stacyvakassian2334 Yes! Had flu symptoms for a few weeks with the first dose, nothing with the second.
I'm a heart transplant patient. Immune suppressed. I got shingles. Age 46. Thanks for the info docs.

Im 61 and just getting over them...have had about 8 weeks of dealing with it...Hope to get my shingles vax soon!
Now that's a bucket list
Wow that is horrible. Thanks for sharing
So sorry to hear this. Hope it leaves forever
But how is it possible to get shingles if you never had chicken pox or the vaccine??
This hurts 💔 i am 33 and went through a lot of stress last year and last 4 months 😢. . Makes sense....
Very nice
I got the shingles shot because 3 people in the family had it and it finally is covered by my insurance.
They are so so painful, and the pain and the itch never go away
I’m 33 and in the middle of a shingles outbreak. I had no idea and thought I was just having an allergic reaction. I’m so over it…
Me too. Surprise to hear the dermatologist say it's shingles 😔

Yes it can permanently change the skin. Hope you're ok now
I understanding that pinching pain...UGH...its terrible
I've never had chickenpox but I had measles I was told u get one or the other.
I have never had chicken pox or shingles. Im 50 amd considering getting the vaccine within the next couple of months. I had my children vaccinated and they have never had chicken pox as well. They are all adults. This video was mich needed for me
Same here!
I got shingles, horrendous pain very important video thanks.
Sorry to hear that
Uncontrolled stress is dangerous to your over all health.
Yoga, meditation and breathing exercises can help.
Great advice
Yikes
Wow that's rough. Hope she is ok
@@TalkingWithDocs She is 33 now, so she is much better. Just challenging when she was little.
Same, my daughter got shingles when she was 5 and had the chicken pox vaccine. She also has asthma.

My youngest was 16months old when we first went into lockdown... she has never had chicken pox.. my eldest (age11) has just come out with shingles! Guess she's gonna be getting it now!

Any side effects?
Now you know!
Yikes. Hope you are ok now
@@TalkingWithDocs I still have sensitivity behind my ear which I can live with!
Interesting
Thank you so much for another excellent explanation. I contracted Mylofibrosis, had a stem cell transplant, now good (my blood dna is now Germs from the donor), but I contracted Shingles last year painful as you say, I was already taking a low dose of Acicolvir but it didn’t help, but I’ve just had Shingrix the non-live vaccine. No-one explained Shingles to me, your video is perfect and I wish I knew all this before to help me manage the condition.👍
Now you know!
I would NEVER get the shot
Wow that's awful. Thanks for sharing
Thank you, she passed away in 2016 due to a pulmonary embolism. I miss her so much and I always will.
@@lynnettecook6973I’m sorry for your loss. I bet you were a wonderful daughter.
