    Boyd / Mr. Trekworks
    Persistence pays off... and thanks again. It was Lighthouse that I heard you say... and I found them. I am already thinking of how these lights will look great on the Enterprise REfit kit. Looking forward to all the parts of your tutorial... especially the wiring and the extra light and details you have added.
    Thanks again... you are definitely an inspirational modeling boost...Qapla'

    That shuttlebay looks absolutely amazing, the lighting looks perfect!

      Agreed! It’s like a whole ‘nother model in itself.

    As a cinematographer, I really appreciate your approach, sensibility, and execution of lighting. You do fantastic work. I also love your ability to embrace things like hobby paints that other model builders wouldn't even consider. You have an aesthetic eye that gives you the freedom to see what works from a design standpoint, balancing elements like color and contrast, where others more slavishly follow paint charts and prototype instructions, making no judgments of their own. This kit seems to lead to monstrosities of color and contrast. Great work.

    It’s great that you’re showing what can be done with craft paints from Wally World. There is such an abundance of colors at a reasonable price.

    Doesn't get much slicker than that shuttlebay work. Well done.

    Whatever you did for your vacation worked for you, Boyd.
    You're back and your enthusiasm is showing!
    Nice model... Just about perfect, like the Refit Enterprise was (design-wise).
    It looks to me like this kit was engineered a bit better than the Enterprise.
    If I remember correctly, the Kronos One had additional warp nacelle lighting but I can't remember how that looked. Half these lights didn't show up on screen for more than a split-second!

    • @TrekWorks
      @TrekWorks  5 лет назад +2

      There are some really nice 3d printed grills for the green engine lighting seen on the Kronos 1 already available. I'm sure Round will release a Kronos 1 conversion kit for this model sometime in the future. It has a ton of intricate ornamental brass details all over it and a totally different bridge top.

  • @Lumibear.

    I’m hugely impressed, both at your skills in fitting the lighting (you know so many clever tricks!) and the Tena kit, that ramped flashing is very Star Trek, mostly due to the use of incandescent bulbs back in the day when flashing LEDs weren’t an option, now imitated digitally! It somehow gives it more gravitas, too.

    Awesome Boyd... A Klingon shuttlebay for ...lol
    Klingons dream of one day designing, building shuttle craft to park in their shuttle bay's, maybe one day. Till that day Klingons will have empty shuttle bay's ...maybe in case they need a couple of humpback whales.

    Your idea for diffusing the light gives me an idea for warming the lights on 1701. Just use a Yellow tinted paint.
    Warmer color and diffusing without sanding. Thanks !

    For the Paragrafix torpedo disks we actually use 1.8mm led's. I think was thinking of the standard Katinga light kit that has 3mm led's for the torpedo tubes.

    Awesome job. I have 3D modeled a Klingon 12 man shuttle from a concept of what a Klingon shuttle would look like in TOS. I haven't played with the idea much more after it, but I could dig it back out. I also think they would or could have made a few sizes of shuttles, like the federation ended up doing.
    In the TOS/Motion Picture/Phase II era we note the (Star Wars Effect) to the Star Trek Universe. This is due to the Original Series being made in the 60's and the limited budget that they had to work with at the time. Not to mention the time crunch they were under when they filmed it. It is quite amazing that it didn't end up looking like Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Some of the alien costumes, and or Make up ended up being the victim of low budget, and or lack of no digital/and or not being able to blue screen every shot.
    But Star Wars came along and the ship models seemed more realistic in a lot of ways compared to 60's Star Trek. They were covered with greebles, and little pipes, and wires. Battlestar Galactica used the same effect.
    So when Star Trek Phase 2 was being worked on for the TV series and Star Wars came out and made an overnight Bazillion Dollars, the Star Trek team took notice. To make a long story short, this is why Star Trek the Motion Picture came out in 1979, instead of Star Trek Phase II as a TV series in 1978. They wanted some of that Bottled Lightning that George Lucas had captured.
    Anyway The Enterprise (NCC-1701) no bloody A, no bloody B, no bloody C, or D, had gone from being the TOS beyond imagination excellent design with the detail being in the paint and a few lighted windows on an 11ish foot model shot with a blue screen to a give or take 6 foot model of the first canon refit design that was viewed by Star Trek fans on a Movie Screen. (Their had actually been a rebuilt model for Phase 2) that wasn't used for the motion picture, although it had been considered. If you watch You Tube Star Trek Phase 2 you can see this design.
    Anyway the point of this is that the difference between the shuttle designs had also differed between the only shuttle craft that we viewed in TOS which was the Galileo 7 model, and or prop ship for the series. The Enterprise TOS was suppose to carry 8 of these. I am somewhat surprised that they didn't change the number on it in a few different episodes.
    So the challenge would be for me to design a Klingon Shuttle craft that would reflect the difference between the 60ish smooth design that I came up with that I think would fit nicely onto a D-7 Klingon Battle Cruiser, and what one might look like if they would have actually designed one to use in a scene for the K'Tinga Battle Cruiser that we see being modeled here with the Star Wars greeble effect in play.
    I think give or take I could use the same Shuttle Design. I would mostly just need to greeble it up, and possibly ad or change the geometry to be a little more engineered looking, instead of to smooth and to tv prop looking.
    I will see what I can do and make a YT video of it. (LOL) then to mill, and or 3d print a 1:350 scale of it for your model.

    Well, that was fabulous, especially the shuttle bay. So with that... I'm throwing my model in the trash. Why even build it at this point. Hahaha just kidding. Looks great Boyd. If you can show how you wired up the photon in the back that would be helpful.

    let me start by saying Thank you and Qapla' . I am just now starting to review your videos / tutorials on how to pull this model off... and its amazing how many notes I already have for when I start my build. If you could post / send me the info on those LED spot / floodlights used under the AFT / Bridge section of the cruiser I would grateful and appreciative. I tried to make out what you said and it sound like "light house LEDs... but I turned up nothing. Thanks, and happy modeling Sir.

    Its to bad that the Shuttle bays on the Klingon ships, and the Romulan BOP were an afterthought in the designs. I would have liked for this design to have a bit more ceiling clearance like they put on the Enterprise of the time, but it is what it is. They would have needed to take off and land fairly strait. I imagine with computer assist though that it wouldn't be to awful to perform.

    i just finished this model and i used the plug and play light kit that came with it because im not that good with soldering and resisters . do you know if there is a plug and play kit available for the big 3/50 scale enterprise model by polar lights . thank you

    • @TrekWorks

      Polar Lights makes a lighting kit for the 1:350 scale TV series Enterprise but not for the Enterprise Refit from STTMP.

    Great job Boyd, but why would it have a shuttle bay, has anyone ever seen a Klingon shuttlecraft?. I'm an avid Trekkie but I must admit i haven't ever seen a film or episode of star trek with one in. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @Ripplenator
      @Ripplenator 5 лет назад

      I think you're right. I've never seen a Klingon shuttle craft either. But there would probably be another way to get off the ship besides the transporter.

    • @mikegallant811
      @mikegallant811 2 года назад

      They did introduce some in Star Trek online I believe the different Klingon shuttles are the Kivra which is more of a shuttle pod the Toron which is kind of a midsize kind of shuttle and then and this is only available to folks that have gotten the lifetime subscription to the game you also have the duj'hod chariot or general's Chariot as some call it also there is some I think one other Klingon small craft that one is more of a fighter and it's called the to'duj fighter. So Klingons do have small craft you just don't see them that much!

      @@R1door in Star Trek online they finally introduced some Klingon shuttlecraft there's the Kivra class which is a small shuttle pod there is the tour on shuttle which I think is more of a runabout in some respects there is the Duj'Hod Chariot which is kind of their captains yacht although actually the the name stands for general's chariot and then you also have the To'duj fighter which kind of looks like a mini bird of prey I'm sorry if my pronunciation or spelling of the names is a little off but then of course I'm an earthling and not a Klingon I'd like to try to pronounce them as properly as I can, Trekker that I am.
