For sure. A lot of them played baseball at one point, Scott Patterson/McGreavy was actually a really good pitcher growing up and you can tell from his mechanics. Was also really cool how they used actual players from that era (legit ones at that)
I think what I liked most about this was that other than the Twins, all the other teams were the actual Major Leaguers playing (At least I think so...) And yeah, the actors actually LOOKED like they could play ball. Too many sports movies the "star QB" or "star point guard" barely looks like they've seen a football/basketball in their lives.
@@agoo7581I wouldn’t put this ahead of Major League, but I could put it ahead of Rookie of the Year. If you wanted to put it ahead of ML though, put it ahead of Major League II. It tried too much to be like the original.

Man I dont care what no critics say, this movie was great, a bit older than me but still a great movie for what it is, especially compared to other sports movies of the same era.

My dad played in the cape cod league back in the mid 70's and he said there were guys just like the two at 2:38 and they were nuts haha. When he saw this scene for the first time, we re-played it about 10 more times bc he was laughing so hard bc it brought back a bunch of memories.

Of any sports movie, this one has the best action sports scenes of all of them imo. They used real baseball players, and the turnout was incredible. Except Timothy Busfield. But his swing from the left side is so great in this movie. My brother just said he wanted his kids to see this. I can't wait to watch it again with them.
An impressive pedigree for a film considered a kids movie. I can usually gauge the awesomeness of a film by how many people involved in it have worked with Aaron Sorkin. (With the exception of First Kid)
0:15 Dude Lenny Webster made a half-hearted attempt on that tag at home 🤣 Oh, good old Lenny... 2B also double-clutched. C'mon Oakland, tighten up that defense!
My niece does that with the high school softball team she coaches. I tried talking her into doing the fake pickoff at first, but she said it's too risky.
So umm...Scales kicks the ball away, which is totally legal, but ummm...why wasn't the catcher going after the ball? I don't think the pitcher would've been backing him up on a trick play.
I've heard of people say Timothy Busfield wasn't right for the part of a power hitting 1st baseman because of his stature but he's kind of like Bagwell without the roids.
The baseball scenes in this movie are incredible. You could tell they really paid attention to the actors they hired for this.
For sure. A lot of them played baseball at one point, Scott Patterson/McGreavy was actually a really good pitcher growing up and you can tell from his mechanics. Was also really cool how they used actual players from that era (legit ones at that)
All the ballplayer actors in the movie were semi-professional or higher real baseball players
Every one hired was a professional or semi-pro baseball player

Why do people hate this film? It’s great!
It's great to have true mlb players like they don't use in other baseball movies.
This is one of the very few sports movies that I would classify as quality. It's so much better than movies like major league or rookie of the Year
This and 61* are my favorite baseball movies

This whole movie is an incredible love letter to baseball. Such good action and great baseball logic and strategy in it
“That’s up to you. You’re the free agent. Hey, what’s the going rate for an absentminded pitcher that can’t get anybody out?”
The soundtrack of this movie was just great.
Marqui Skeins it also fit every little Montage so good!!

Fun fact: that actor also played the guy who killed Uncle Ben in Spider-Man

One of the greatest movie of all time.
Only if baseball was actually this fun to watch.
This movie actually has a great soundtrack. Bunch of great songs.
Agreed.
When Booker T and The MG's are assisting with the soundtrack, it's damn near impossible to have bad music.

They filmed the actual playing on the field superbly. Its be awesome if we could get these camera angles in MLB games
this and rookie of the year are my two favorite baseball movies
Cm Coluch we lived the same childhood
The difference is rookie of the year didn't have real MLB players.
Hey, what about Major League? They were good too.
@@hectorlopez1069 Did have Gary Busey though, if that's a selling point.
For the Love of the Game is a really good baseball movie.
That was the best out I’ve ever seen an ump do
Love that ump at 1:05
I love that they had guys with actual baseball experience to play roles of guys on the team. It really shows. Such an underrated movie.
So true, that and then using a lot of mlb players during that era as well

The gum around the chaw is classic
John Ashton always gets paired up with characters named "Billy". This kid...and Judge Reinhold in Beverly Hills Cop! 😀
BOWERS! I love that guy.
trying to find the scene where he fires jerry Johnson and he flips out
Actually he released him but same result. It was a nice touch that they made amends at the end by bringing him back as a coach.

Busfield played ball in college so he was a real player too.
@@christinadoxstader3004 "When did these ballplayers get here?"
@@christinadoxstader3004 not surprising, he had a solid swing. Haha and Patterson with his pitching, dude had really good mechanics
It was great it got released since the MLB players were on strike
So no baseball that year
I remember watching this in the theater and almost puking out my popcorn watching that nut wrap the gum around the wad of tobacco. Nasty!
I love this montage because it shows how pro players are just big kids. It just seems more true in baseball then in any other league.

Which player was the one wearing the magnified glasses saying ge can throw strikes lol?
Back when this was on crt TV you probably couldn't tell most of the crowd was fake.
Runner should have took 3rd on the play at home.. the ball is loose! LOL
I think that the Twins should've had an outdoor ballpark. As I do, with all outdoor sports teams.
Well they do now
Didn't Marco Scutaro do this in 2009 on the Blue Jays against Joe Blanton

Tobacco
Is this play legal in the big league? Does anyone know?
Of course.
Yes. Teams just don't run it bc its risky and not easy manufacturing baserunners at the show level.
Got to love the Twins !
Awesome!!! Thanks For This!!!
Is it legal for a player to run to second base on a walk?
I did it all the time if second was open.
chewing tobacco
And bubble gum
