I worked with resin for the first time this year - I had some repairs I needed to do on my snowboard and an epoxy resin glue was the recommended material. Thanks to you guys I knew I needed to ventilate the room I was working in, wear gloves, I knew what it means when the resin started to get warm... Thanks guys, cause the glue instructions didn't tell me ANY of that.
that's crazy that they didn't say anithyng about gloves and ventilation... drugstore hair dye has these precautions and it's roughly the same level of danger if not less
@@juliashirokova8374 yeah idk, I even opened the packaging up and looked for extra instructions and there were none. I'm in europe so we might have different rules around this, but... Idk. The danger is still there no matter what the law says, so i think they should write the precautions you need to take on the packaging.
Normally when mixing by hand, if you go fast, you are 'scooping' air in, with the 'screwdriver' you can hold it in the resin without introducing extra air into the mix
Part of the problem is actually the wooden popsicle stick. Wood is porous and releases air into the mix as you stir and the resin penetrates the stick. Plastic or silicone stir sticks are better because of that. Silicone wins due to ease of cleaning. 😁👍
When they held it near the surface pulling air down into it I knew it would have the most bubbles. At that point you're just whisking it and couldn't be adding more bubbles if you tried
Not just that, but a lot of additives add bubbles too, I kinda wish one of the test ones had been with powder pigment or glitter to see if it REALLY mixed.
What you saw as "bubbles" or pucker on the first two looks more like amine blush, which is resin not curing properly, either from not being mixed enough or not getting warm enough. On that note, the lizard/heat mats are great not for curing speed, but if you live in a cooler climate and your resin doesn't cure or gets amine blush (me in a cold Canadian basement). Especially for thin cures like bookmarks, my heat mat really prevents sticky patches or amine blush :)

@Totally not an internet troll I'd strongly recommend a thermostat, or at least a rheostat. Stuff happens. Also, probably not safe - fire risk - to over-insulate electrical equipment, even that which gets hot. (It's not meant to get _that_ hot.)

I have been using Total Boat for 2 years because of you guys lol. It never matters the dexterity of mixing speed that I use, EVER. It always always always leaves that "hair like" residue "bubble" (they are absolutely not bubbles) on smaller molds. 9:22 I have one similar to this one and I found that you need to turn the spoon or stick sideways so there is more friction or catches the resin more. I love mine.
I feel like depending on the time it needs in the pressure chamber the fastest most efficent method would be the screwdriver mixer -> pressure chamber -> heating pad, or cement mixer -> wait 30mins for bubbles -> heating pad
I personally use an electric resin mixer that is similar to the blue one, but it has a smaller set of paddles and is great for someone like me with chronic pain, has made mixing resin so much easier and I have found that it allows me to be able to do more since I am not causing myself extra pain by mixing various volumes of resin at once.
the video WAS more than i was hoping for! i was expecting a fairly unedited low effort video becasue this is the second channel but was pleasantly surprised to see katelyn really went all in with the editing.
I think Katelyn does still edit some videos, but most of them are done by an editing team now. Mostly former (or still current) gaming channel editors. But they've done a good job following Katelyn's original vibe so it's usually hard to tell who did which videos. Regardless this one was hilariously edited!
Evan, the tiny pocket used to be for you to securely attach your pocket watch to! Jeans are much older than we tend to think, and they haven’t changed, much as far as garments go
I have a resin heating mat that came with a little tent to trap the heat and I hecking love that thing! I keep my apartment fairly cold, so I used to have to wait multiple days before I could de-mold things even 1/8" thick, but with the mat, I can cure 3/8" in 3-4 hours. Absolutely worth it. If I need to avoid bubbles, I'll let it sit for a while, but that thing is a game changer.
Secondary use for the cement mixer is put your nail polish bottles in it. Rolling your bottles instead of shaking makes less bubbles. You could also use it to coat things with other things for embeds maybe? Like if you got your plastic beans and wanted them to be iridescent or glitter coated, just spray those in a little bit of glue and toss them in there with the coating and whabam you have sparkly beans.
Dear Evan and Katelyn, I absolutely loved this video! Your creativity and humor always make for such an entertaining watch. Testing out these weird resin mixing tools from Amazon was such a fun idea, and I was genuinely surprised by how well some of them worked! The electric resin mixer was definitely my favorite, and it was so satisfying to see how quickly and evenly it mixed the resin. The other tools were also really helpful and made the resin mixing process much easier. Overall, I thought this was a great video that showcased some really interesting and useful products for anyone who works with resin. Thank you for always bringing such fun and engaging content to your channel. I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
When I need a big output for resin casting (lots of molded items, fast) I mix my resin, add color and then microwave it for like 5-10 seconds (it heats up REALLY fast), then pour it. The heat promotes curing and it goes of, ready for demolding in about a quarter of the time plus the resin gets really thin and thus the bubbles rise to the surface faster and easier. Perfect for closed intricate molds with fine details. Some molds might need vibration or tapping right after filling to release bubbles clinging to the surface. So, try my hack and microwave your resin.
It's also worth considering regarding the curing mats that you appear to have the resin in silicon molds. Silicon is a fantastic insulator, to the point of being used as oven mitts. So that mat is having to completely heat the silicon before it starts to affect the resin.
6:00 - Fun fact, those tiny pockets were actually used for pocket watches. The patch there is called a watch pocket and was created for jeans dating back to 1879!
man i love you guys so much, you never fail to put a huuge smile on my face, either through just being you (silly geese) or by the incredible editing !! thank you Evan and Katelyn ❤
The amount that fits inside the cement mixer looks to be about the right amount or almost the right amount to fill up a set of tabletop dice. I wonder if they made it that small amount with projects such as custom keys or dice in mind.
Ha, i've used a reptile heat pad to make a hotbox for an epoxy pour i had to pour outside during winter. It worked good enough to keep the ambient temp within manufacturers guidelines.
Those reptile heat pads are pretty good at holding even and high temperatures and if you really want to go for it you can get thermostats to make sure it doesn't go above a certain temperature
it be really cool if they made a GIANT EK or Jube mold, and every time they have left over resin, they add a tiny bit to it. then in like 12 months when it's full of excess resin from projects you get a crazy mixed up thing of extra colors. or even like randomly put the hearts and squares used for testing. like and maybe they'll see this probably flawed idea lol
i think the weight of the stir rod for the cement mixer one is supposed to go outside of the cup? could be wrong but it does look the rod itself is the perfect length to reach the bottom of the cup while the weight rests/balances on the lip, and it would therefore stay in place while the mixer is going, rather than rolling with it. although tbf, it does seem to work just fine the way y'all did it
Please could you whip up sillicone as much as you can to add as many bubbles as possible, make a cube mould with it, resin the cube and see how bubbly the outside of the cube is?
Put the spatula from the drill in the holder on the turn table. Also. put that in before you pour the resin in. Or make sure it's as low as possible while mixing. pls.
OMG I love your shirt, Katelyn. I liked a shirt you wore in a candle making video about cats too. Those masks are cute too, but where do the black tubes go?
So I have the "cement mixer" and I like it very much as a person with chronic pain, my hand get so tired mixing resin the traditional way. With the cement mixer it helps to hold a popsicle stick or a silicone stick in it to help mix it and what I do when I need to mix more resin, I tilt it up by placing it on some wedges and use a bigger plastic cup that still has a narrow bottom. Hope this helps with your giant one or if you want to continue using lil boi.
I think what you could do or test is manufacturing some kind of chuck for the cement mixer that could also hold paint bottles of different diameters. I saw people use lab vortex shakers to shake acrylic paint, but I wonder if using a dropper bottle with a stainless steel ball bearing inside with this style of rotary mixer would be as effective.
The resin mat isn't a scam. You're getting exactly what you're being told you're getting - a heating pad. It's just a product targeting a niche market with a product that is meant for a different one and upcharging. You will see the same in far more established niches than resin sculpting. You can call it a lot of things, but it's not a scam.
The science bracket is for holding test tubes and maybe a few other other similar sized equipment for chemistry labs (ie a probe in a solution for a prolonged period where you want consistent placement, and a test tube in a flame
Very interesting to see the sheer difference ion the amount of bubbles between the "control" & the "heating pad" moulds. Just a thought : What if you used the vacuum chamber to remove the bubbles BEFORE pouring & THEN use the heating pad ? Would you still get as many bubbles ? Are the bubbles a product of the curing process ?
I remember saving heating mat for resin about a year ago and it’s still in my Amazon list. This video helped me to understand whether it’s worth buying or not. Personally, it might not be worth it. I use 24-hour type (cheaper and less toxic), so heating mat won’t make much difference to me
I would say that the bubbles in the resin that was cured on the heat pads are likely water vapor from the moisture absorbed by the 2 parts of resin. Curing resin is an exothermic reaction meaning that it gives off heat, and because hot resin cures faster, you can have a runaway reaction. The excess resin that I sometimes have after repairing a surfboard has gotten so hot that it starts releasing visible steam and has even melted the container it was curing in.
Man I love you guys😂 I’m so glad I found you guys, you both have brought so much joy and entertainment to my life and I’m so grateful! And it is also encouraging to see how you two love each other while also loving the same things! You guys are amazing!!
The resin mixer - keep blades submerged in resin. You still need to scrap sides unless you have the flexible blades. AND messy crafters, like myself, don't want resin drops on our nice drills
I love your videos on both channels. The sound effects and visuals crack me up every time. Even the product placement commercials you make are just to funny.
You should try making damascus resin by letting it cure partially and twist them together, then cast them again in another color or clear to fill any gaps, then form into something.
I think for thin casts or doming the heat should actually help the bubbles rise to the surface. Maybe best with UV resin tho so the heat doesn't trigger the curing. You could also use like a cup warmer, candle warmer, or one of those plant thingies.
Might get one of those mats to put under my pressure chamber as my garage is pretty cold and resin takes ages to cure. Obviously run lower pressure to allow for expansion but reckon it’d help. Also want to see you build a mega cement mixer, that can handle at least what your biggest pour to date is 😀
I don't know that much about resin but everyone knows you can literally pour it and torch it so that you instantly get rid of the bubbles , so at a small scale you can just buy a small torch lighter and in a split second torch the bubbles away so that it is not even an issue.
Something really cool, We live in a colder part of the world, so, to ensure our resin always cures, We attached a lizard tank pad to the outsided and then just put the box the pressure pot came in back over it. Totally solved all issues we had with temps. and its cheap/easy
It's possible that the cup got knocked off more easily when it was empty bc there wasn't any weight on it. The downward force pushes the cup into more contact with the sticky plate, so it like, holds better, maybe?
I know that in the woodturning videos where they use resin they always put it in a pressure pot to eliminate bubbles. I wonder if by adding a hot plate inside a pressure pot you could get the best of both worlds.

5:35 Evan and Katelyn do be turning into _that type of channel_ slowly but surely xD
i think the weight of the stir rod for the cement mixer one is supposed to go outside of the cup? could be wrong but it does look the rod itself is the perfect length to reach the bottom of the cup while the weight rests/balances on the lip, and it would therefore stay in place while the mixer is going, rather than rolling with it. although tbf, it does seem to work just fine the way y'all did it
The nicknames they gave each product cracked me up :D Long live the cement mixer!
Love to see you find new uses for these products 🤔💡
Please could you whip up sillicone as much as you can to add as many bubbles as possible, make a cube mould with it, resin the cube and see how bubbly the outside of the cube is?
You know it’s a good day when E&K uploads a video
Put the spatula from the drill in the holder on the turn table.
Also. put that in before you pour the resin in. Or make sure it's as low as possible while mixing. pls.
Katelyn, the fact you put a heat signature lizard in the camera when displaying the mat is sooooo good xD
I follow a couple of dice makers who use the tilted mixer thing. They mostly use it to mix color.
I love the headgear!!!🐱🐱🐱
I love how they poured the resin mixture into one of Rosanna Pansino‘s moulds, creators supporting creators I love it!♥️
This video has some insane editing. Good job guys!
Big cement mixer video incoming 😂 excited imagine 😂
The mini cement mixer one I use to mix epoxy for fixing/building fishing rods! It does really well at mixing without adding bubbles
My mentor made his out of an old rotisserie from the Thrift store!
Listening to you guys helps me get through my day being productive! You’re better than music for motivation! Ty! 🎉❤
The editing in the video was really well done.
I remember saving heating mat for resin about a year ago and it’s still in my Amazon list. This video helped me to understand whether it’s worth buying or not. Personally, it might not be worth it. I use 24-hour type (cheaper and less toxic), so heating mat won’t make much difference to me
"Suitably Impressed" sounds like a perfect response for many things
Even the product placement commercials you make are just to funny.
you have to combine the first and second mixer!
You should try making damascus resin by letting it cure partially and twist them together, then cast them again in another color or clear to fill any gaps, then form into something.
everytime you post it gives me extra excitement
So glad I found Evan and Katelyn 2!
The #3 mixer we actually use to mix resin seal where i work. Ours has a bracket to insert 2 popsicle sticks into that goes into the resin.
I love that you’re using Ro’s silicon mold. 😍
Also want to see you build a mega cement mixer, that can handle at least what your biggest pour to date is 😀
It's insane how much evan and katelyn are me and my wife's spirit animals 😂😂😂❤ 🐶🐱
That resin mat pour lookin like Baja blast 👀😍
Y'all are just so great together, the videos are so much fun to watch
The little cubes you used to test the mats it reminds me of turkish delight and I really want some now.
I know that in the woodturning videos where they use resin they always put it in a pressure pot to eliminate bubbles. I wonder if by adding a hot plate inside a pressure pot you could get the best of both worlds.
The best days are when Evan and Katelyn post ✨
