    I woke up yesterday with a swollen middle finger. I thought it was odd but went about my day. My finger was getting progressively more painful and swollen. By 2pm I decided to go to the doctor. She wanted to look at my arm, which I had not looked at myself yet. There was this ugly red streak flowing from my finger along the back of my hand and towards my elbow. Needless to say she gave me antibiotics and strict instructions to take them on schedule and to finish the entire prescription. I have a follow up tomorrow.
    The infection seems to have stopped spreading but what is scary is how fast this can develop.

    I was concerned about my leg showing redness, swelling and edema. I thought it was a cellulitis. It concerned me enough after watching the video. I went to the ED. Turned out to be cellulitis but also a very large thrombus. Being treated with antibiotics and anticoagulants. Further tests showed Pulmonary Emboli x3. I and glad I watched this video. It started me on the right track towards healing.

    My entire left leg swelled up to nearly twice its normal size. I went for a week before going to the doctor. My doctor was not seeing patients that day so I saw a nurse practitioner. She checked my leg and told me to sit still for a moment while she left the room to check on something. A minute later she came back in followed by my regular doctor. He looked at my leg all of 3 seconds then asked me what Hospital I wanted to go to. I checked into the hospital and spent a week with my leg elevated and receiving IV antibiotics. After a week my leg was back to normal. About a month later it did it again, except this time I stayed at home in my own bed, with my leg elevated, and took antibiotics I purchased from a veterinarian supply company. About three days later my leg was back to normal and the cellulitis has not returned after ten years. The hospital bill was over $40,000.00 Dollars. For one week requiring nothing but IV antibiotics and something to eat, a $40,000.00 bill was insane.

      I feel for you dude! I suffered through the stuff several years ago. Took a long time to get better, and thank God it hasn't returned. It initially started as mild soreness, then progressed to a 105 degree fever. Thought I had the flu at first. I rode out the fever, and my right leg was red as fire the next morning. My doctor put me on huge doses of Bactrim for over a month. She had to take me off of it for fear of messing me up. Walking and elevating the limb does a world of good. I also had to wear a compression sock, which isn't very comfortable after a couple hours. It pays to address any small wound or tear in the skin. My infection came as the result of athlete's foot.

    My leg suddenly swelled to tree trunk size and I could hardly put my weight on it (200 lbs). The whole ankle was screaming painful to touch and to articulation. When I stood up, the blood surge made it feel like the leg was going to split wide open. I went to the ER. After hours and hours and hours, I was quickly seen by some kind of assistant. She glared at my now bare foot, shreiking about my not spending my time and money on pedicures. They routed me to get a sonogram and CBC. After more hours and hours, I was visited by some sort of forest elf, intoxicated on his own fumes, with two shadows, furiously scribbling notes, dangling on his every participle. "Hi, I'm Dr Blowers, oh, your ankle is toasty. Here are some pills. Have a blessed day".....Then I got the bum's rush out the back door. I got a small bottle of Keflex. Over the next 6 days, I struggled with a leg which looked like it was verging on gangrene any minute. I went back to the ER. They rolled their eyes. They repeated the sonogram and CBC. A different Dr actually took time to look at the leg, palp it for the crackling sound of gangrene and compared it to the other leg. His recent graduation from med school caused him to look at references for treating cellulitis and concluded that he should add sulfamethoxazole to my prescription. Finally, a bright twinkle in the mind of a present day "doctor". The swelling went way down in a day. The stabbing pain nearly gone. If only Dr Blowers had done this 6 days earlier, I would have been over it and never had to make a second trip to the overcrowded ER. Make a note - Sulfamethoxazole + Keflex should be the standard of care for anyone presenting with cellulitis.

    what is the possibility of celulitis progressing to septicamenia?

    • @strikeforcek9149
      @strikeforcek9149 7 лет назад +8

      Lee watson - It can, has, and absolutely has happened.
      If the infection isn't tended to within a reasonable time, it spreads to other areas both externally and internally which then leads to your bloodstream absorbing the infection. Thus, resulting in Septicemia. :/
      Unfortunately, cellulitis often is a very rapidly developing infection. Before you know it, within only 24 to 36 hrs of noticing even the SLIGHTEST of symptoms or that something isn't right, you'll be experiencing pretty intense redness, swelling, pain, and etc.
      Unfortunately, cellulitis is not something to play around with and can become VERY serious VERY quick. :(
      I am currently dealing with a VERY nasty cellulitis infection. 36hrs ago I BARELY, ever so slightly, grazed my left ankle on the bottom of a dog kennel fence. Not even enough to break the skin to cause bleeding, more like a surface scratch. Then, within literally hours (about 8 or 9hrs later) I started feeling a little pain. I didn't think much of it and just assumed that it was because it was a sensitive area. I went to bed while elevating my ankle while sleeping, and then when I woke up my ankle was almost twice it's normal size and it hurt like CRAZY, like it was being burned/touched with fire! the area was extremely swollen, about 5" away from the scratch in every direction, and extremely red, hard, and hot to the touch. At that moment, I just knew something wasn't right.
      So, I tried icing it for the day, staying off of it, and overall just trying to nurse it/baby it, with the thought that maybe I had just really aggravated the area by my sock rubbing the scrape, or my shoe, or etc. But, by 9pm, it was almost triple the size of my ankle and very painful when touched. On a scale of 1 to 10, with a 1 being equal to a mosquito bite and a 10 being a gunshot wound, it was genuinely about a 6 or 7... :/
      I also started getting really bad chills, a scratchy sore throat, my body was becoming/is really achy, and I had a fever of 101.4F, all within a matter of 24hrs or so of getting the little scrape. The ER doctors said that if I would've waited another 6 to 8hrs or so, I would've been in very serious shape requiring immediate hospitalization and quite possibly, at a minimum, needing amputation to try and keep the infection from traveling. :/
      But, they explained that when getting a fever from it, the bacteria is already spreading within the body slightly, and it would only get worse until finally "doing you in" via septic shock, organ damage, and the list of possibilities went on. I hope this information helps you out with your question. :)
      They prescribed for me to be on a hefty dose of Doxycycline for the next 10 days to clear the nfection. I pray and hope that it does it's job, as this is very painful and very scary.
      As a 30yr old, average white male in average health and build, I never thought I'd have to worry about something like this, as I thought cellulitis was more of an elderly person infection, or a "dirty person" infection (lack of hygiene). But, just goes to show how much I was wrong, hehe.
      Good luck!

    • @strikeforcek9149
      @strikeforcek9149 7 лет назад +6

      Justin LaMontagne - yep, All better now! :) BUT, I had some VERY nasty complications arise after my last post prior to getting better.
      So, I took the meds, started feeling slightly better around day 2'ish of the antibiotic. On day 4-5'ish, I started having REALLY bad body aches, chills, and an instant fever that shot up to 103. So, back to the ER I went! Lol. Turns out, that due to the cellulitis attacking me so harshly, it had knocked down my immune system pretty good during the intial downswing and I ended up getting a HORRIFIC upper respiratory infection. Then, after battling that upper respiratory infection while on the antibiotics already, I ended up with walking pneumonia for a couple weeks afterwards that took some very heavy antibiotics to finally curb. But, all better now! :)
      So, yeah, apparently cellulitis is nothing to play with. I went from TINNNYYYY little scratch on my ankle that barely even broke the surface of skin, to ending up with walking pneumonia... I was basically sick for a month straight and bedridden on and off for about half of that. :/ So, if anyone ever has a scrape, cut, or knick that doesn't feel right or seems a little over-tender ands hot to the touch, GET IT TREATED AND HANDLED ASAP! lol

I thought I had a seizure in my sleep and hurt my leg and I got news back beginning of this month I had bruised muscles idk how. And now last week I woke up to patches of nerve and swelling in upper thigh and swelling in my leg again and I have no feeling in my lower leg below my knee and feet are hurting me because I am numb kneecap to down

    I would love to see a doctor discuss alternative and natural methods of healing. Such as Gentian violet, Manuka honey, Betadine and organic coconut oil. Whatever you choose to do, please realize the symptoms indicating a systemic infection or possibilities of gangrene and severe infection.

      @clemintine fakeface
      Uh, of course you are entitled to an opinion. I had strep throat, pink eye, and a horrible case of impetigo and used exactly the things I just recommended to heal it. Without ever seeing a doctor BECAUSE I did research into medical papers and research. It worked. The Gentian violet I mentioned is a simple dye, one of which is used on the umbilicus of newborns to prevent infection. So take it with a grain of salt if you like, but I am telling you it worked. So, the next person can research this themselves and decide whether it is valid advice. But hours of research went into finding these studies and patient commentary on forums about what they used or didn't use. And what worked. None of which had SIDE EFFECTS like pennicillan which are listed here www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/penicillin-oral-route-injection-route-intravenous-route-intramuscular-route/side-effects/drg-20062334 Nor are any of the things I mentioned something which the bacteria able to develop a tolerance to. Staph is able to develop antibiotic immunity. So say what you want or actually do your research. Manuka Honey is used in hospitals for resistant strains of staph (which develops a bio-film which is why it becomes resistant) I'll hand you (or whoever) a couple papers on the effectiveness of the items I mentioned.
