Is an infectious disease doctor be the one to see😊 I have been dealing with symptoms like this for a while. Seen several doctors but nobody can really help.
I've had to stay in hospital for 8 days as I've left upper arm cellulitis. I was on Clandimycin & Flucillin 1g 4 × daily intravenously but because my veins not showing up, they had to switch to orally. It'll 18 days on Friday that I've been on the antibiotics. I've had 2 ultrasounds to rule out DVT. I spread up to my wrist in the matter of hours. I was also on Clexane injections into the stomach to prevent blood clots. I've to go to see Consultant on Friday morning and physiotherapy after to try and get my mobility back. I'm 32 year old.
I got cellulitis after a bee sting on my arm. Very painful, swelling, red and hard area larger than my hand. It rose up within hours of the sting and was worse the 2nd day. Prescribed antibiotics for 7 days. Took 3 weeks to totally go away.
I almost always learn something new from your excellent videos, even though I enjoyed a long career in nursing. I'm begging you, though, to please address skin color changes in individuals with dark skin whose signs of inflammation may not manifest as redness. Sorry to get on my soapbox, but I've had patients of all colors, and Healthcare professionals still don't appear to be sufficiently proficient in covering non-white individuals' color changes. Or worse, sometimes it just doesn't occur to them.
Many years ago I came down with a case around my nose and forehead --Oh boy!! In just a matter of hours .....I was in the hospital and put on the antibiotics, intravenously. The next day--what a scare when I saw my reflection!!! I just remember my whole face was swollen beyond imagination ...there were literally holes in my face where my nostrils were.....Thank God the meds worked wonders!! To say the least, even 30 plus years ago, I am extremely cautious of any redness on myself or my family members. Cellulitis can be super scary!!
Great info guys, thanks, its really good life knowledge to recognize the infection, in particular, tracking if the redness is moving up the limb or towards the heart. So the area of redness and swelling, in particular, the redness area, will increase in the infected area,. High temperature or just feeling unwell. The inflamed, sore and swollen area feels really quite hot. Mum, in UHCW UK NHS, now having IV Flucloxacillin. Very brave lady, pain out of 10, was 3. Fingers crossed she will make a good recovery. Swift action is required to avoid complications. Always call for medics if unsure.
I'm doing a panic watch to understand what cellulitis is because my grandmother literally has the same symptoms as you've described. Suddenly overnight. Woke up with a redness on top of the right hand. Swelling, painful and difficulty moving fingers & thumb. How was the healing process? How long did it take?
Great information, but could you please show compression done correctly? As a wound care nurse who has done compression for patients many times, I can say with full confidence that compression starts at the toes. If you apply compression as you showed in your video, you’re going to come back to see a swollen foot and skinny leg to put it simply, not to mention other complications.
I had cellulitis a few years ago and it started with a severe fever for me. I had body aches, high temperature, shivering and shaking even though I had plenty of blankets. I went to the hospital and they thought I had Covid but test was negative. No rash at the time. 36 hours later I went back to the hospital with the nasty rash on my leg and still sick with fever, and it was Cellulitis.
I had Cellulitis on each arm about 2 weeks apart. I itched so bad and nothing stopped it except a cold pack. I think I was bit and the itching triggered the infection. I understand it can grow to a more serious infection.
Had cellulitis on my shin that was misdiagnosed at the start but a different doc figured it out a couple of weeks later(didn’t have athletes foot). Heavy doses of antibiotics starting intravenously a few times and over a few weeks and it slowly went away. Not fun and it’s important to get it looked at right away.
This happened to me after shopping in the " open air market " in China .It was inflamed , painful , dark red . My daughter got frightened , her friend who was a doctor said that it was nothing serious maybe some kind of allergy to take Tylenol for pine and it will go away by itself .It took good five days . I'm sure it wasn't a allergy . Now I can count myself lucky
I am going through it too. Big toe and shin.. two antibiotics and they 😊 raised my blood pressure, waiting to hear from the doctor. Hopefully we will all get through this…. Wishing you a good health.
Developed for me after they excised squamous cell skin cancer on my forearm. Redness, warmth, swelling, weeping of the wound, nasty pain. Two weeks of antibiotics over and done. Never want that hell again.
I got an insect bite. I kept it clean as much as possible. 9 days later I developed cellulitis. Very painful, swelled and a very distinct redness. Within a few hours the redness had doubled in size. Once you have seen cellulitis, you know it when you see it again. I went for emergency care and got oral antibiotics for 7 days. It cleared up but the mark lasted for a few weeks. It is so important to get treated as soon as possible.
I had a small scar on my right foot and i tried different ointments and it only spread more now its on the other foot inspite of three courses of antibiotics what do i do i am very concern about this condition i plan on seeing a skin specialist later this month . I am at my wits end any adcice you can give it woul be greatly appreciated.
I had a buildup of old ear wax that eventually got infected and the side of my face ballooned up from cellulitis. Dr says canal looks ok. ENT says canal looks ok. I scrape out large quantity of old wax. Problem solved.
As a sonographer, this is a touchy subject. Nothing worse than getting called in at 2 am for cellulitis on a leg. Ofcourse they want a scan to rule out dvt but in the 17 years Ive been doing ultrasounds, Ive only seen a handful of leg discoloration related to a dvt. I do on average 5 to 7 legs a day for dvts. However the majority 99.9 % of cellulitis legs are just that...cellulitis.
I had to do a sergi on my left leg and you in the haspital for 7 days I could not walk my legs was swollen from the knee to the straight down the doctor had to stuff the wound I could not walk for a couple of weeks and the wound took 3 to 4 weeks to heal after healing a couple of days after I started to feel a sharp pain at the area on the leg that was cut no swelling no redness and no high temperature was noticed
That would be good, but please don’t get one who says “most of the time people recover within 1 month/2 months/ 6 months - etc. After more than 11 years, I still suffer effects despite the CT scan reassuring the ER that there was no problem. There are many other obvious symptoms of serious problems than are visible on a CT scan.
Currently suffering from a severe case according to a micro biologist. On IV meds and swelling and redness still hasn't improved after a week. Spent 4 days in hospital. Discouraging to say the least. Blood work says I'm improving though.
Could triple antibiotic lotion/gel/ointment be used at the beginning of cellulitis? to avoid getting a bunch of antibiotics in the body... Thanks in advance.
I have a reoccurring issue with cellulitis. First time in my feet then my ankles and later to my elbow. I have had it on my cheek as well. It can be anywhere. My treatment has been with cephalaxin and not penicillin at 500 mg per day. Strong stuff for about 10 days. It’s exactly as the doctors say. It’s very painful. If it is red, draw a line around it, if it grows then go to emergency. I was on 6 rounds of intravenous for my first attack because I let it go too long.
@R19654 is it like a rash? Is it itchy? I have about 15 red dots on both of my feet on the shin but it doesn’t hurt it is just itchy. I put cortisone on it and it helped, now I am wondering if it was cellulitis 💭
@@ShopStylebyme It starts as a sore spot that turns into a red spot often the size of a quarter or larger that grows quickly. It’s sore then became really painful. Feels like you bumped into something. But that pain is unique. You will know.

We are so sorry to hear this Howard.
So very sorry for your loss! I once asked a doctor when it’s best to call her so I don’t waste her time. She said three days. If, by the third day, you’re not getting better, call your doctor immediately or get yourself to the Emergency Room.
Evil I’ve had it many times
Sorry to hear that
