Great review. I have an Arai Tour X4 and am happy with it. Also liked the Shoei but it did not feel as comfortable for my head.
Agree with you on the Klim -- build quality is bad, and they're asking top money for a made in China helmet.
With Shoei and Arai you're getting super-high made in Japan quality and difference in look and feel compared to the Klim is very noticable.

    Great review
    Thanks for sharing.
I also have the same 3 helmets but I’m wearing size L and I have Asian round head shape.
The Shoei helmet narrow opening issue will be solved after break in.
    Comfort : Shoei > Arai > Klim
    Ventilation : Arai > Shoei > Klim
    Noise : Shoei > Arai > Klim
Aerodynamic on highway : Shoei > Klim > Arai
Quality : Arai > Shoei >>>> Klim (cheaply made, day and night difference from Shoei and Arai)
Weight (All size L) : Shoei (1580g), Klim (1540g), Arai (1650g) (I was surprised that the klim helmet is not lighter at all due to its limited shell size, size L using the same shell size as XXXL that’s why the weight is so much more than the size M (there is only two shell size for KLIM : S to M and L to XXL))

Hi, do you have Arai XD and Shoei Hornet ? Honestly I still confused to choose between Arai vs Shoei and considering Airoh Commander also. May you explain more about Arai vs Shoei ? I'm from Indonesia. Thank you

    • @sukhoi3747
      @sukhoi3747 3 года назад

@@chandrajuliar Yes i have both at the moment. It depends on your riding style. If you always ride off-road then get the Arai because it has way better ventilation but noisier and less aerodynamic on high speed road cruising. Get Shoei if you ride on the road most of the time, it is quieter and more aerodynamic (less drag). Arai = 50 : 50 helmet, Shoei = 40: 60 (offroad:road)
My heads feel more comfy in shoei.
      Shoei is lighter too.

    Excellent review of these helmets.
I have a Schuberth but it deforms the top of my head when I take it off. Like you mentioned about the Shoei, the Schuberth is very hard to Donn (put the helmet on) because the opening is kinda small and the helmet material is very hard, so I can't force it open over my ears easily. Otherwise the Schuberth is a great helmet, just not for me.
I've had Shoei's in the past and really liked them. I might have to give the Hornet X2 a shot even though the Arai really catches my attention with the ability to crack the visor open.
    Decisions! lol

Great review! I am ready to buy a new DS helmet and this was just what I needed. If the Arai fits my head, that’s the way I will go, since you said the distortion isn’t an issue on the larger sizes. I want super quiet and light weight, which of course conflict. I have the first gen Klim and I love the weight, but it’s noisy. Are you on advrider by any chance?

I own a Tourtech ADV , Airoh ADV & a Nishua Enduro Carbon Helmets ( same as the Klim Crios - but 500.00 AUS dollars cheaper . Sounds like to me no helmet makes you happy ( you may as well but a cheap $100.00 with all the money on those 3 )
All three of mine are VERY light - that’s why I got them - due to neck injury. The first was the Tourtech ADV , a light helmet, good vision, visor worked well in high speeds . But was quite noisy, no dropdown tinted internal visor and build quality quite poor for a 800.00 helmet. Plastic fitting garbage. But because it cost me a lot I stuck it out for 2 years ( until I crashed and stuffed it ) was only a small off and basically it fell to bits .
The Airoh on the other hand is even lighter, way better built quality, quieter and has a drop down tinted visor . It’s not perfect seems from the left side a bit of noise ? anyway it cost me 625 in Australia and will keep it until I destroy it . The Nishua Enduro Carbon unfortunately only comes in black but other than that is similar in weight & comfort to the Airoh ADV . ( only reason I have it was needed a new helmet and took so long to get here from Germany had to buy the Airoh from a local bike shop .

  • @randersson3672

I think it depends on headshape, Shoei is a tight fit, and it hurts for maybe 20-30 hours, after that it fits perfect.
I'm rigth between small and medium, but prefer to spend some hours to have it fit just perfect so I buy small.
Liked the Hornet so much I got a second one to match my other bike, and the new one that is not "molded" to my head yet, is not as quiet
    as the older one.

My Neotec was horrible at first and my mouth was all squeezed in a kiss shape. But now it's perfect. Of course it's almost one year old the helmet now, but already after like a month if was fitting like a glove, no more squeezing on the cheeks. Needs more break in.

Thanks much for a very insightful and costly analysis.
One question: I have been using Transition prescription lens in my glasses for years and find that although they are everything you could wish them to be in direct line of sight sunshine, they are virtually useless inside of a car where they are shielded from that direct line of sight. Similar results even if the brim of a baseball cap interferes with line of sight.
So, what has been your experience respecting the potential for the helmet visor to shield the face shield?
    Thanks again.

    • @Elskins
      @Elskins  3 года назад +1

Wasn't an issue while on the move, but was annoying a bit when I stopped for a break and took the helmet off and then when putting it back on again the face shield was not uniformly tinted, but with brighter and darker spots all over the place for about a minute and half. Both on Klim and Shoei.

Yeah, I've got a long oval head and the hornet fits me better than any other helmet I've tried. There is a tiny bit of room on the sides of the crown, but less than most other helmets that proclaim a medium oval head shape.
Klim is hit or miss. I'm tired of companies building a name and then letting their quality deteriorate. My buddy's Krios got a busted snap on the chin strap after a couple months. It's disappointing to hear that one of the most expensive ADV helmets feels cheap. Two shell sizes is absolutely shameful. That kind of corner cutting should be reserved for entry level helmets. I've had a few pairs of Klim gloves and the fingers are often sewn on crooked, so the seams are on the pad of your finger. But, their Mojavi and Dakar pants have served me very well so far in a season of vigorous off-road riding with plenty of spills.

What you didn't really show is how comfortable is the highway speed and head turning. I like the Shoei but it almost looks like a road helmet. Without the visor it would be perfect on a road bike or sport tourer, but doesn't feel very much off road. I have the KLIM Krios Pro and I wouldn’t say it is shit. I agree, with the video, that it is quite big for small heads like mine. It looks quite disproportional when is worn. I would disagree that it is not good quality though. I think people take it as average quality because it is light. I would say that it is better than cheap/average helmets, but I agree that it may not be up to Arai and Shoei standards. I would say also that the ventilation is quite good, the peripheral vision fantastic and you can wear it with the peak in highway speeds without issues. I don’t have issues with the visor either as it stays open without problem (And there is a way to tight or loose the mechanism as well), and the transitions visor is really really cool and useful. Finally I must mention that recently I had an accident where this helmet kept me safe and the company honour the 5 year warranty and product replacement without give me any trouble (I just had to fill some forms and that’s it).
