      I think the interviewer was kind of getting pretentious towards the end with the whole mathematics thing but Martin deflected it perfectly with the, "fat Swedes" comment.

    I honestly thought Periphery's Misha Monsoor created the term "djent." That said, yes, I accept Meshuggah as being called "math metal," not "mathcore" (math rock being prog+jazz); and yes, I love djent. Oversaturated online, sure, but still fun to listent to those 8-string notes. Brings some groove and funk to the insane madness.

    Greatest band ever. It's always the crazy ones that are on the cutting edge taking it to a new level. We love you Meshuggah. Thank you for your brilliance and staying true a humble to your art. The creative evernewing spark is the infinite source fountain of endless music to be born, just like life each the same but infinitely different. I dropped all covers crap many years ago and started playing PURELY in the pursuit of chasing that creative cutting edge of only playing something we had never jammed before - and we recorded it on-the-fly to capture the magic as it happened. I have meshuggah to thank for this - they taught me how that EVERYTHING is changeable and it does't have to be ANYTHING unless you make it to be. It's the ultimate exploration of self and euphoria shared with your musical partners. Feel free to enjoy

    This was another enjoyable interview. It flows similarly to a conversation, various subjects come up and with ease.
    With the 8 strings I dunno, I've only tried them in store but like he said, 6 to 7 isn't much change but 8 it's a big change. Although it didn't appeal to me, nonetheless there's a learning curve and different approach which I can respect. I also assumed "djent" was just some weird internet/youtube joke or meme that caught on with skateboarding kids into metalcore which is basically Blink182 with 7/8 string dbl bass, growl-shouting.

    • @RautaMetal
      @RautaMetal  6 лет назад

    08:45: "Now you've taken this screwed up fucked up music that nobody wants to listen to. And you've been hauling it all around the world for 30 years and people still give you the time of day."
    Mårten working hard to promote the band as usual!

      Scandinavian "self-irony".

      I think it was really more a brutally honest comment on the usual first-time reaction - I just liked the total disregard for marketing-speech and mindset where one borders on simply begging to be liked. It is way too common and completely uninteresting so it made me happy to see that they haven't shut off yet! So ironically my comment was ironic in celebration of this! :)

      For what Ive seen in most interviews, all meshuggah's members are pretty chilled and not at all arrogant, just more reasons to love this band

    I want to have a buddy like Marten. Just seems like such a nice chill fun friend. I bet that has so much to do with the longevity of a band just being a decent person to be around and to be creative with.

    I used to dislike Meshuggah. I didn't "get it" and was not a fan of the strange rhythmic play. Now, I even have an 8-string M80M (Mårten's signature) and create my own shit and listen to them for inspiration.

    My favorite album by them is Catch 33, but they need to redo it w/ real drumming. I do believe the drumming was done on the drum machine
