This video shows the re-work for the early Siglent SDS 1202X-E (early production runs with a serial number starting with BA, later units are not effected).
I show how to dis-assemble , install compensation capacitors, calibrate probe compensation, and re-assemble the unit.
Great care must be taken to avoid static discharge by using ESD protection systems.
This involves working near and handling the high voltage switch mode power supply, only competent people should attempt this re-work, both for your own safety, and the safety of the instrument!

I didn't catch the capacitance value on the caps. and it would have been nice to have a zoomed in view od the area worked on.
Never use a 1x probe, always a 10x, a fixed 10x is better as switchable. For best bandwidth and lowest overshoot in a 50 ohm system you need to use a 50 ohm inline terminator. Not coax direct to the input. The unput impedance for a scope like this is at 10 MHz far from 1 Mohm (more down to 100 ohm or so)
pa4tim - I completely agree, but I wanted to demonstrate how important the cable type is for calibration. Calibration required a un terminated coax.
OK I was going to buy this unit to check 300 MHz signal on a test tape for a cassette tape calibration and was wondering if it’s good enough without having to fix the capacitors to do such a thing
You did not use termination resistors with the coax cables so you will get ringing etc, plus normally x1 probes do not need compensation unless it has a compensation control on it. On the BNC connectors you may be able to put the shakeproof behind the metal plate instead of in front to fill the gap. The paper work speciffically mentions with x10 probe issues yet you said you used a x1 probe in the beginning.
What type of signal generator did you use for this?
The Serial Number placard needs to be amended with upgrade to "BB" configuration and date. Or, better, the number of the Service Bulletin accomplished and date.
You really should terminate the cable at the input to the scope, otherwise you will get or sorts of reflections on your cable, causing overshoot undershoot etc
nick philpot - I agree, but I was demonstrating the cable effects to show how much it can change, the calibration required an un-terminated connection.

You panic and flap far too much, just show the danger overlay and state clearly without flapping how you could get a shock.
I have repaired many colour tv's with 33Kv on the anode of the tube, im sure you know tv's far too well, ive had some fun too :-D
That switchmode was only dangerous from the primary of the transformer (350v), the output near the trimmers was low voltage d.c, only deadly to wandering spiders lol :-D
zx8401ztv - I had to be very clear about the risks, you would of seen in my other videos that I usually don’t even mention it. The reason being that this tune people will use this as a guide to fix their scopes, I don’t want someone killing themselves because I wasn’t clear enough.
