The fun part for me as a Bulgarian is that you was having a walk in one of our parks “West Park” of Sofia if we have to be specific. We as Bulgarians like to keep our parks as natural as possible , often the park fading away into woods or rivers. Seeing you as a 2 meter tatted up guy being afraid of places i grew up at as a child is mad funny
Spot on! He's over dramatizing the video, this area isn't dangerous at all it's just a normal park.
Absolutely... But even people with his brain powers have to live and obviously being a drama queen in a regular city park is one way to do it, given the audience he has.
Nah boys dont get me wrong , these places look terrifying if you havent been there before . What i wanted to point out is the importance of the upbringing and the point of view . Im sure if i go to a similar place somewhere abroad i will be just as terrified. Gypsy slums are indeed dangerous , as well as secluded parks .
He was definitely over dramatising. Yes - the weather was perfect for a horror movie; yes - Fakulteta is a total shit hole, but he was so paranoid - even the martenitza on that tree scared him. For god’s sake - he did a convenient cashless payment a few meters before the slum 😂
I just thought the same 😂
I have met American Gypsies, very colorful, they have a certain accent, they have last names like Smith, Mitchell, Miller etc. It’s usually a fascinating experience, I will say we lock everything up when Gypsies are around
Really good video spanian, that place is straight up out of a zombie movie apocalypse movie bro wow.. net alone the bush track lol yeah it used to be something.. a murder scene hahaha
That plane is set up like one of those warthogs
Hi Spanian, just an idea, why not rent a bicycle and mount the go pro onto it for easier travels through places like the huge forest to save time and cover more ground. Cheers!
It wouldn’t look bad with a little maintenance and picked up trash. The dingy weather doesn’t help. But the buildings for the most part don’t look super old.
I don’t understand the fear. It’s rainy so you’ll have mud. I’m from the U.S. and agree with other….its a beautiful forest! I’m surprised not to see some locals again….its raining.
to be fair coming here in winter doesn't do the place any favors XD, Sofia is at around 700 m elevation so it's extra cold and soaky
Wait wait wait, is there bears in Bulgaria 😂😂, f**kn dead 💀
Its funny cuz an apartment in the second worst place you mentioned Lyulin probably costs more than your entire house in the UK or whatever 😂🤘
Chances are , its much more likely to get stabbed in your pyjamas whilst going to your local Sainsbury's for toast and spread rather than in Fakulteta.
(I'm Bulgarian)
Lol, next time, just falow Google Maps, mate 😂
New Spanian channel “Into The Woods” sussin’ out the woods all over the world. Let’s ogg.
what is this tree lad?? whys it got no leaves?? this whole place is so putrid!! i've never seen anything like that!!
😂😂😂
If a man complains in a Forrest and there is no woman around to hear it is he still wrong
😂
🤣🤣🤣
That “chin up bar” at the beginning of the episode is actually for cleaning your rug. You roll it up, get it out of the house, yank it over the structure and whack the crap out of it to get rid of the dust etc. At least that’s what it was used for in Poland where I grew up as a kid.
Trzepak 😆
It's used everywhere lol
Yo, bulgarian here, when Spanian visited a branch with a strange looking bracelet at 15:14 it is called a martenitsa. Its an ancient tradition that we wear in the beginning to end of march or until you see the first tree blossom the bracelet itself symbolises blood, conception, birth, warmth, friendship, mutual affection but mostly joy and hope, thats why when you hang it on the tree we traditionally make a wish or two.
That’s actually so good to read, I thought Sofia was violent but the comments are really saying otherwise. I wish the best for your country.
The funny fact is that Sofia is amongst the least violent capital cities in EU. It's just dirty and there are lots of poor (and unhappy) people. Hence angry people. But, I'd say there are bigger chances to get mugged in Barcelona than in Sofia.
@@stanbozhkov1338I agree
My Bulgarian friend, I'm Croatian, and I never knew this. That's beautiful. :D
surprisingly wholesome.
This guy pointing to the huge apartment buildings saying "Bro , this is abandoned , it must be OMG ." In the meantime me , as a bulgarian "Hey look , it's my grandmother's building! She lives right there " .
He's not used to being in eastern europe 😂
Hahahha ikr! I used to go to school in the building infront of that place. A childhood friend of mine lived there so i would visit that exact building till just a few years ago so I laughed out loud when he said it must be abandoned 😄 Poor chap, it's kind of eye-opening seeing the neighborhood through his perspective, tbh
There is a saying in Bulgaria, “If you are afraid of bears, you shouldn’t go in the forest.” 🤣🤣🤣
What does that mean though because that just sounds like advice

I loved the video and laughed many times :)
The factory you mention is actually the heating plant which provides the heat for all the concrete building apartments around western Sofia`s neighborhoods. Sofia has several of these plants which support heating through the parts of Sofia during winter time. The polluted air you mention is not because if the smoke from the chimneys but because Fakulteta poorer residents are burning wood, plastic, rubber tires etc. in their home fire stoves, since they do not have central heating. Therefore, with the help of the wind, the whole western part of Sofia smells like shit during the winter or on a colder days.
The West park has always been wild like that, it has a `normal` section which actually looks pretty good, it is loaded with with barbecues, portable toilets, places where your dog can play and drink water from, brand new kids playgrounds, security cameras on every lamp, restaurants, etc. Your maps app just walked you through the `wild` part of the biggest park in Sofia which was hilarious to watch.
Fakulteta is named after the agronomical faculty, situated in the middle of the neighborhood, which is still active and was there before all the gypsies moved in there back in the 1930s. If you decide to visit again, bring me as a guide next time, I love walking through the West park and laughed a lot on your anxiety to go through paths on which I walk my kid and dog almost every weekend. :)
Great vid! :)
LOL he made a normal Balkan neighbourhood sound like the deadliest place on Earth
Where is all the graffiti. This is a tame bulgarian hood, my girlfriend lives right next to a gypsy camp and there is graffiti and football hooligans, their neighbour was chased out of the neighbourhood because he dared confront the gypsies about damage to his car.
To be fair even that wasn't dangerous.
Beautifully spoken like a real Irishman!

So true. I visited with my 6 year old son and people were friendly and great
Great acting bro
As a hungarian who grew up in a similar flat, i never knew Bulgaria had that many similarities to Hungary. And yes, those playgrounds were lit. You fall, you die, and you get a mock for being incapable. No mobiles at the time, just "get home when it's dark", we went everywhere
Those commyblocks are everywere east of the Berlin Wall, including in Berlin but there they fixed them up right after the unification of Germany. And yes we have lots them in Sofia. Not just in Slums like Lulin

Love the Bulgarians in the comments I used to live in Romania and always loved visiting Bulgaria and had a great time there and felt very safe and welcome
I'm Scottish 🏴 I lived in Sofia for a year, honestly, some of the loveliest people on earth. Would drop a hat to help you with anything. I have a very special place in my heart for the Bulgarians. I also felt safe the whole time, and we would walk the streets at night all the time
Yes, bro! I am Bulgarian and I can proudly say Bulgaria is a safe place, people are generally friendly, even more friendly towards foreigners than to other Bulgarians sometimes. But, if you don't go that doggy areas, it's relatively safe for everyone who don't intentionally seek for problems.
A Sofia resident here - yes, the city is, as a matter of fact, surprisingly safe! I think that what shocked him was the sheer poverty, not so much the danger associated with messing with the wrong guys. I would be much more afraid of encountering big stray dogs rather than suspicious gypsies.
Granted, the mud and rain make the paranoia feeling go through the roof :D
Brave man who would live there for sure I don’t no why you would but I wouldn’t of left Scotland to go there not at all

25:25 Those chimneys are not pouring anything toxic its a Thermal power station working properly. The air in Fakulteta is poor because the people there often burn tires or fabric for heat in the winter.
That strange rope you saw in the park, is called Martenitsa, and we ware it because of Baba Marta. We ware those bracelets around our wrist and this indicated the end of Winter and the beginning of spring. We take them off when we see a blooming tree and you tie it on that tree. Or birds which are only found during specific time of the year and not in winter. In addition those old Blocks are called EPK(Large formwork is the literal name) and yes they are still in use. Some of those old buildings were build during the Soviet regime and to this day they are still used. To us this is normal.
Very cool👍🇭🇲

And if he spoke to anyone he would know this, rather than being scared by some woodland...
Span, I have to tell you, those playgrounds in the beggining were THE BEST when we were young, most of the time they just dump you at the strange contraptions and say "do whatever, play", so you improvise on what to do. Lots of laughs we had there as children. Cheers, keep it up!
Bro, u didn’t even walk into the real heart of Fakulteta. All i saw was u walking out of Zapaden Park into Zapaden Park neighbourhood and that’s not even a bad block smh.

15:07 - don't be afraid of this. They are called martenitsa - we, Bulgarian, put them on our hands on 1st of March each year as a sign for the upcoming spring. It's a long time tradition for health and prosperity. And when we see the first storks for the spring, we tie them on trees with blossom.

Hey guys, may I ask you as Bulgarians whats your take on Stolipinovo? Just gonna add that statistically, Bulgaria isn't "the poorest" but sadly it's down there. Poorest would be Kosovo/Albania/N. Macedonia, but that's just a detail. Great vid as usual man!
Lil edit (in case you see this) - if you're ever planning to go to Central Europe, I suggest you come to our beautiful country Czech Republic, to see Prague and... yknow, the hoods in the North where I live 😂 in case you see this (low but still!) Check out the regional city "Usti nad Labem" and especially check "Chanov" - probably the most notorious gypsy hood, same region as Usti, different city (Most). I know some people from the area, could ask around and get in contact with locals. In case you fans find this interesting, please like this so Spanian can see it!
poorest is almost always Moldova not Balkans. Also if he does go to Czechia h should do a slovakia detour and go check out Lunik 9, it's gotten better since the pope went there but it's the biggest slum in Europe
@@AjZ530 Last I checked GDP, Kosovo was lowest, but it's true that Moldova is also sadly at the bottom. The big problem with the gypsy neighborhoods in general is that all the houses are illegally built over the decades. The state recognizes that there are people with their needs, but in the same time they don't pay taxes and the state can not provide the full list of benefits. It is a limbo. You can't get better living conditions, because you are poor. But you are poor, because you can't get better living conditions. It is a vicious cycle for poor people in general.

I am Bulgarian. Fakulteta stands for the Faculty. Most Bulgarians avoid going there at all cost. I don't understand why you were so paranoid going through the forest in broad daylight. Yes, there are bears in Bulgaria, but you won't encounter them in the cities rather in the mountains The white and red charm that was hanging on the tree branch is called Martenichka. It is a charm, bracelet in this case, that Bulgarians exchange on March 1st and are supposed to wear till they see the first storks (sign if spring). They are hung on trees as they are believed to bring abundance and fertility. As for Sofia, I was very disappointed of the neighborhoods that you decided to showcase in your video as these are very remote and dilapidated areas of the city. Bulgarians are very friendly, hospitable and genuine people. I hope you can make a video about the picturesque places of our beautiful Motherland as well.

Fakulteta is definitely bad, but there are places like Червената Пръст (The Red Dirt) in my home town Stara Zagora, where if you go during the day, there's a 95% chance you're gonna get robbed, and if you go at night, there's basically a guarantee you'll at least get robbed, most likely beaten as well. Even the police don't go there, it's basically a lawless slum full of criminals.
As much as this video made me laugh, it also breaks my heart to see how Bulgaria appears to foreigners. It sucks, because Bulgarians are not bad people. Stupid - definitely. But not bad. Loved this, hope to see more of BG in your vlogs.
You forgot irredentist, aggressive and prone to crime.
I have been to Stara Zagora, in the 90s it was nice. I drove through it to Sliven
You spent most of your time walking in a normal neighborhood and a noram park bro 😂😂. You weren't in danger 99% of time, all the people , even the "hoodlums" are friendly but look cold . Still I enjoyed the video😅
Spanian, You shouldn't have been so scared here. People mind their own business as it is seen in Your video. No pavement, garbage and air pollution problem...as in many countries. Paris is more dirty and dangerous for health. When it is 39°C fish is sold on the market outside the refridgerator. In San Francisco and Amsterdam drugged people walk like zombies on streets. So, nothing to be scared of here where You decided to go. You are a big guy
This is why Australia is the best country in the world.
Totally agree with you,too many here now, 🇦🇺
Was, now it looks like a prison island
Nah bro Macedonia 😂

Lol sure it is, but in some parallel universe
The chinup bars around every block are actually for hanging your carpet and dusting it off or drying it.
Cmon lads, lets share this channel till its hits a few million!
Am the only one who thinks he looks like the Bulgarian Roma singer Azis (when he’s masculine)? 😅, Poor places tend to have interesting/beautiful cultures. BG tbh looks better in summer from what I’ve seen. No one really outside in this video 💀
The Bulgarian GDP is still much higher than any of the former Yugoslav states - in fact there’s another 20 nations in Europe that have a much smaller national GDP of 90 billion$! Hardly a poor nation. There’s many places in any western nations that are run down or under developed that make you think you were in a 3rd world nation!
I like Sofia with the big mountain to climb next to the city. The waterfall is beautiful too! Everything is so cheap and the people are very nice. If you can't sleep at night you can watch the street racing at the main road😂
Those buildings are not abandoned :D. The price per m2 is probably somewhere between 1500-2000 euros. The forest is also not that bad - I go often there to shoot with my bow. I'm a small guy but never felt any real danger. The first time when I went there I was able to hear drums from the distance, coming from the gypsy slum - it was like being in Mordor, waiting for the orcs to attack :)
Stay safe out there!
Most, if not all Balkan countries are full of nice people. Not to mention they are super safe... even during the night...
I'm an Aussie Latvian now living in Riga, Latvia. When you were in amongst the tower blocks I was a bit "yeah, and......so?"- there's parts of Riga that look like that. All ex communist bloc countries have that shit. I briefly worked as a bike messenger here, just so I could say I'd done it, I had a few deliveries in there, to try and find a particular apartment was a crazy adventure for a bloke from Australia. But, man, that full wasteland part- that was something else entirely....and we don't have factories pumping toxic smoke into it either......
For all that saying this place is not even dangerous, boys, because we grew in this environment doenst mean its normal to other people. Some places look sketchy to outside people.
I have never seen outside Australia, This makes you realise how great our country is and how lucky we are. Our bad days seem stupid after seeing this. Thanks for sharing
That's true but don't forget that this is the worst part of the city and that every city has bad parts where you shouldn't go
I guess it's true but I'm from The Netherlands and not from Australia. But for everyone counts, we can not and do not have to, compare our situations to the situations of others. I'm sure even the richest of the richest have bad days and they are allowed to have them, too....
More like aboriginies country 🤦🏾♂️🤣
@@bogomiltodorov2803 Even the worst parts of Australia aren't this bad though, we're very lucky .
This is only one part of Bulgaria. If you exclude areas with gypsies, Bulgaria is amazing.
The weather is definitely making the vibe a lot more grim 😂
Yeah a lot of this looks quite stunning in the warmer months. That hiking trail would be stunning
Hey bro thank you for coming to Sofia and making video about my country i hope you have great time and I hope you take some rakija for your next adventure. I was laughing when you was saying we look like criminals 😂
Its like a normal place in balkans. Every major city has dimilar places, but its not thia dramatic as you are presenting it. I grew up in one, and only important rule to folow is mind your own busnies.
Bruh, you are exaggerating to the sky and beyond! It was not even dangerous, just dirty! Go to Harrow Weald in UK and talk about slum!!!!!
This is why we love you!! You go hard for us. We love it
Pause
You was in the posh part 😂

Goes to the " The Most Dangerous Gypsy Slum in Bulgaria", nothing happens. The people are just poor, brother. And durty, very durty.
