Many western-developed Genesis games used the GEMS engine for the sound. That's why so many Genesis games have that clunky sound. Matt Furniss, who made music for the Genesis Mortal Kombat ports, was a wizard with GEMS though.

This game is just inconceivably terrible. Even the NES game is pretty decent until you get to the last couple of levels. And only having a short one season run is no excuse. Konami did great things with rhe similarly short Bucky O'Hare.
