    When a failed nuclear fusion experiment results in an explosion that kills his wife, Dr. Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina) is transformed into Dr. Octopus, a cyborg with deadly metal tentacles. Doc Ock blames Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire) for the accident and seeks revenge. Meanwhile, Spidey's alter ego, Peter Parker, faces fading powers and self-doubt. Complicating matters are his best friend's (James Franco) hatred for Spider-Man and his true love's (Kirsten Dunst) sudden engagement to another man.

    Sam Raimi was known as a horror director before these films, so that scene was an homage to his roots. He directed all three of these first Spider-Man movies, but no others. He could save the guy in the alley, he has his powers throughout the entire film (hence why he doesn't die after jumping off the building in the I'm Back scene). The film is about choice, Peter has chosen to be Peter and not spider man at this point, Peter doesn't save people in need, spider man does, the first film shows this perfectly with the "I miss the part where that's my problem" scene.

    • @finbenton6376

      @Yoda He is struggling because he has chosen to be Peter at this point not Spiderman, he has a mental block (performance issues common with sportsmen and women), he doesn't know who he wants to be. Search the burning building scene on RUclips and watch the whole scene, at first he is like I should help but realises he has chosen not to be Spiderman, so stops, and then says OK I'm gonna go and help because it's the right thing to do as Peter though, not Spiderman.

      @finbenton6376 2 года назад +2

      @@sayanchatterjee355 He has his powers throughout the entire film, the films overall message is about choice and who you really want to be, as the college doctor says "you always have a choice Peter" and Peter says "I have a choice" realising he doesn't have to carry the burden of being Spider-man if he doesn't want it, he is in command of who he wants to be. The reason he falls in the I'm Back scene is Sam Raimi enforcing the common phrase of "you can't turn your feelings on and off like a light switch", Peter prior to the talk with Aunt May couldn't stand the thought of being Spider-man, then a quick talk later is back to wanting to be Spider-man 24/7 again. For Peter to be Spider-man he must be 100% committed to the role, which is why his powers function when he responsibly declines MJ's love in the café, and MJ realises if she wants Peter its her thet needs to make sacrifices for him, which is why in the end she gives him no option but to accept her love after leaving her own wedding.

      @Dayspring ok then but just telling you . Director James Cameron wanted to make a Spider-Man film make in the mid to late 90s' and even written a complete screenplay and had a whole cast lined up. However, the studios turned it down because of the mature content that the screenplay had. But the only thing from Cameron's screenplay that made it into the 2002 movie was the idea of biological web shooters.

    • @eagle1onoteagle10
      @eagle1onoteagle10 2 года назад +2

      @Dayspring The famous organic webs in Sam Rami's Spider-Man was James Cameron's idea. The 2002 film took some liberties with the characters, but one of the more talked about changes was straying from the comics version of Peter Parker's webs. In the comics, Parker devolved a formula that he would use to create the web while the film had him naturally acquire the webs after his brush with a genetically engineered spider. This change in Parker's origin would play a key plot point in the sequel as Parker struggled with temporarily losing his powers in Spider-Man 2.

    Of the 3 Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies this is my favorite. The scene that's my favorite is the train with the end of the scene being for the most emotional. I had the same reaction as Jane with the Train scene when I first saw this at the movie theater. When they pulled Spider-Man into the train I had a Justin moment and cried like a baby.

    This is the most true-to-the-comics _Spiderman_ made. Tom Holland plays Peter as a bumbling moron who can't do anything without "Tony Stark", and people eat it up. Everything going on in this one is accurate, except for his not having web shooters, which Peter Parker develops on his own. Peter makes his own tech, not "Stark". In one issue of _Fantastic Four,_ Reed Richards states that _Spiderman_ is like a natural in his lab in the Baxter Building. By the way "Stark" can't hold a candle to Reed Richards, so that's quite a statement about _Spiderman._

    • @a_fine_edition2746

      Tom is hardly unintelligent. All Tobey does is spout some vague science-y sounding stuff and does very little with his supposed intelligence and knowledge. Tom built his own web shooters, so I don’t know where you got the idea Tony did anything other than give him some upgrades, which would make sense given he has access to way more tech than Peter would, and probably had plenty of time to analyze Peter’s web-fluid (which we SEE him developing in Homecoming by the way). Tony is not that far behind Reed in intelligence. They just specialize in different fields. Peter is behind both of them anyway. Tobey’s also a lot less quippy. But honestly, I get really tired of these debates on who the best Spidey is. They’re childish and unnecessary. All of them excelled at different aspects of the character, with some relative overlap.

    The reason why Peter doesn’t tell Harry about the way Goblin actually died was because it was Norman’s dying wish. He only ever tells him in “Spider-Man 3” after he literally tries to murder him.

    This is my favorite comic book movie of all time. The best acting from top to bottom, and you can’t tell a story about the tension between the man and mission with more pathos and relatability. If you wanna help someone understand what makes this movie the GOAT show the final conversation between Peter Parker and Aunt May (arguably the greatest guardian/mentor in the history of comic book movies). Raimi crushed this film!

Before people replaced "shocked" with "electrocuted", for whatever motivated them to do so, you would need an invitation to see someone get an, "electrical execution" or "electrocution". So imagine the circumstances in which, JV, would be invited to see such an event, when a person was, electrocuted. 🤔

    I thought about the train scene a bit too much right now, tryna find explanations. And this is the best one, I think:
    The train was decelerating so fast and so much, that's why it was probably quite hard or impossible to move backwards, because u get pushed forwards. I mean try to not fall, run or move forwards in a bus, without holding on, when it's making a sudden stop.
