I have a Vitamix and just bought the Almond Cow. I think the Vitamix makes better quality milk but I’m going to keep the Almond Cow because it’s easier make and clean. Hand straining nut milk is a labor of love that is a chore I’d like to avoid!
I loved this comparison/review! When I was starting to look into making my own nut milk I was torn on if I should get an almond cow or just use my Ninja blender. I'm glad I stuck with what I had! I have been super happy with the rich, creamy milk that my ninja makes. I just blend it for 10 minutes, and then save the pulp for making almond meal after.

I have a ninja too but only blend for 1 minute. So you blend for 10 minutes!....that sounds like a shit load of noise haha. What I do is after the minute I pour through a sieve then pour into the nut bag. A bit extra to wash but I find it better that way
I have to say, this is a very good and indepth review. One thing though, I do the vitamix and nutbag combo and luckily enough for me, I strain the bag into a large measuring cup that has a spout for easy pouring. No funnel needed and only 3 items to clean. After watching this, I am pleased that I decided to stick with nutbags and not buy an almond cow or other milk specific appliance. Just seems like the same amount work for the extra money when you could purchase a high end blender that does so much more and doesn't take up an extra spot in storage.

I use my Blendtec and I get the same fibrous nut paste leftover mixture. Today I added half of it to miso paste and had a nice pâté with lentil flatbread and salad for lunch! Then I added the other half of nut paste to raw cocoa powder and a teaspoon of marmalade - it made a lovely chocolate orange dessert, chilled! Nothing goes to waste here. Great video - really enjoyed that. Thanks. X
It's CRAZY that 5.5 cups is the MINIMUM! They say you can make creamer with this and that's more than I would use for a regular milk. A 4:1 water/nut ratio is great for average milk but 3:1 is great for really creamy, rich milk. And of course a 2:1 and 1:1 ratio is used for various thickness of "cream" It seems very limiting and short sighted of them to force you to make such thin milk.

I appreciated your unbiased review of these two products. I have a top of the line Vita Mix but a friend suggested I consider an Almond Cow for doing nut milks. I hate dragging out that heavy Vita Mix and I don't like the fact that it requires hand squeezing out the pulp. Before I buy another kitchen device I think I will ask my friend to loan me her Almond Cow just to see how I would like it. I do appreciate your fairness in doing the comparisons.
Omg almond meal from the vitamix is great in recipes. I use it in raw breads and brownies all the time. It's my reason to make almond milk. 🤗 Great video. Got just what I needed. 👍

@@shippermdyes, if you wanted to use it. But I rarely use my pulp. And that seems like it leaves too much behind. I can squeeze out the majority of moisture when using a nut bag. Vitamin makes such creamy milk
I soak mine overnight and peel the skin off cause of what they have lentin Certain types of lectin may bind with the walls of your digestive system which can lead to serious problems. And your pulp ends up white ...just an suggestion I have learnt from some. Great video and thank you for sharing
I found your video looking for a review on the Almond Cow. I currently make my nut milk by first obliterating the nuts and water in the Vitamix, then I run them through my slow juicer (Omega). This has worked very well. It produces a terrific milk, and the pulp is super dry. The only downside is the extra clean up of using two appliances. Great video! Thanks
Stephanie Williams did you blend for longer than 30 seconds? I blend 4 cups water to 1 cup oat for 30 seconds and strain through the nut bag twice. HTH.
To be fair? The basic directions, recipes were not consulted prior to making this review. The Almond Cow has lots of good tips and you tubes! I LOVE my almond cow! And it easily assembles using the collector cup- again included in the basic instructions. The nut/seed pulp recipes are really delicious- ZERO waste! SUPER easy clean up😍
The issue for me, aside from spending money and giving up storage space for an appliance that only makes milk, compared with my Vitamix that does pretty much everything, is just what you say. It needs tricks, multiple cycles, sometimes a second cup of nuts processed with a batch, just to get creamy nut milk that I get in 90 seconds and a quick strain with my Vitamix. It saves me time not having to run multiple cycles, and I use a smaller amount of nuts because they're completely pulverized. That makes my milk creamier and leaves more of the almonds in the milk, not in the strainer basket.
If you want your milk to be more creamy in the Almond cow 1) use hot water. 2) don't soak your almonds beforehand 2a) if you do soak just use 1/2 a cup of almonds. 3) Run at least 3 cycles.
Hi, thanks for sharing your review. On the Almond Milk Recipe it says if you're using soaked almonds only use 1/2 cup. The cup is if you're not going to soak them.

I have both a Vitamix and an Almond Cow and the Almond Cow is SO much faster than the Vitamix at making nut milk. I don't have to strain it or soak the almonds with the Almond Cow. Also, this girl didn't read the (very short) instructions that come with the Almond Cow because it says to hold the strainer and top portion at an angle when inserting the top into the strainer. I have never had a problem getting the two connected doing that. I also disagree that the Almond Cow is more expensive. Even if it were slightly, the almond pulp is great to use in so many things. I only have two kitchen appliances that I use regularly (besides my microwave and stove) and they are my Vitamix and Almond Cow. I consider both essentials.
It's a one trick pony, while a Vitamix is incredibly versatile, more powerful, and is well known to last forever (mine is over 20 years old and going strong). Almond Cow, Nutr, etc, are absolutely fine for those who want them, but I don't want to spend money or give up counter space for a product that only does one thing. If I were to buy a dedicated milk maker, I'd go for the simpler, smaller Nutr, but none of the milk makers come close to the creamy finished product that my Vitamix makes. The fact that there are multiple workarounds to fix the watery result from the Almond Cow, like running through multiple cycles or using a second cup of almonds to enrich it is all the assurance I need that my Vitamix is worth its weight in gold.

Also, maybe running the Almond Cow for two cycles could help it get more creamy like the Vitamix almond milk, also they have a recipe for “creamer” that uses the strainer/collection cup and doing that could possibly contribute a thicker creamier product that could be diluted some into “milk.”
My favorite is (Planet Oat) regular oat milk. Its the freakin best! I really want the Almond Cow appliance so so bad! It does look really nice. Will match my Berkey perfectly! 🍁🎃
I was fortunate enough to get a coupon for planet oat’s oat milk a couple of years ago, which made me decide to pull the trigger to try a non-dairy milk for the first time. I was blown away with how delicious it was, and just how much BETTER it tasted than dairy milk! What a great brand/product.
I find that if you tilt the central chamber of the Almond Cow, and tilt the cup of almonds, it is pretty easy to get those motor blades situated and the cup locked in place.
The crucial issue here is that you're not supposed to soak the nuts when using the Almond Cow, it's just advised to soak whole GRAINS (eg oats). So, that is why she had issues attaching the strainer (nuts expanded) and why her almond milk in comparison was more watery with the Almond Cow, because she had soaked the almonds in advance and they retained that water. So, in fact, the Almond Cow is highly efficient and easy to use. I used to strain my nut milk after blending, and I find using the Almond Cow preferably - also, the milk is warmed and frothy. You can use the pulp for other prep/meals (eg overnight oats). In addition, the "strainer cup" that she refers to, is also used to make a more concentrated creamer with your Almond Cow. Clearly, I am a fan.

I have! Interestingly enough, homemade milk still tastes creamier to me. I also notice that the milk settles and separates faster when you use the pastes vs. whole nuts
If you look on the website there’s SO MANY recipes for different things to make like mojitos or raspberry lemonade. Definitely more versatile than it seems.
There is a bit of a learning curve but? So many suggestions to help YOU make YOUR favorite creamy milk !!! I was a bit discouraged first few attempts- but found so many helpful tips! My fav is to combine nuts and seeds and oats, several diff combos depending on my mood. So fast to make and clean up !!! Just LOVE it !! In case you are wondering? Mine was a Christmas gift from my grown kids 🥰

I have a Ninja,The Beast, and the Almond Cow. I appreciate the Almond Cow because I don’t have to squeeze the nut bag to get my liquid out!!! I have made milk with each and always use the Almond🐮Cow , anymore 👍
Nah almond cow is way easier. Less daunting for sure. And they have great recipes. I'll stick with a ninja for a blender/processor and have my almond cow.

I was thinking of getting a Almond Cow so I can make other drinks however mainly just to have another gadget ( I love kitchen gadgets lol) I do know my almond milk from the Via Blender is very creamy!! Thanks for the video. I was curious about what the advantages were compared to making it with my Vitamix. Honestly, I think the Almond Cow is just a fad and may not last as long as a Vitamix. It’s $195.00 on Amazon, or at least the one I saw, and if I was going to spend that kind of $$, I’d save up for a Vitamix.
I appreciate you for doing this review. It was quite helpful. I have a Blendtech and I have used it and a nutbag to make almond milk and cashew milk. I do plan to save up and get a Vitamix and sell my Blendtech. I find that although the Blendtech is quite powerful, if I try to follow a recipe where someone is using a Vitamix, my blender forms an air bubble where the blades are and nothing can get blended unless I stop it and push all of the ingredients down and blend again. This usually only happens when I make low moisture recipes or frozen recipes.
I think it's better to use a regular blender to make nut milk manually, because the difference isn't very big and you have less things to clean up but the automatic filtering is definitely a huge differentiator. Manually I'd turn the milk into a smoothie with black spotted bananas
This is why I like making my nut milks in my slow juicer. I also blanch my almonds, because it is easier to digest without the skin, plus I feel it makes my milks last longer. I get a finer pulp that is more like a flour consistency in the slow juicer and it doesn’t heat up and get as much oxidation as a blender or the almond cow.
Just a little update, the Almond Cow IG and website/blog has TONS of recipes for fruit infusions, hot drinks, etc that you can also make in the Almond Cow, but I’m current choosing between the AC and the Nutramilk
No one has done a almond cow and Soyabella comparison! Soyabella has been around longer and is $100 cheaper. But what's the difference? Love to see a review. It would get a lot of views!
Thank you for the great, honest, unbiased review! I already have a vita mix and use that to make my mylk but when I saw the almond cow I seriously debated whether or not to buy it. I was really drawn to the ease of not using a nutbag but was hesistant with so many factors you mentioned: price and the minimum water required. I love my nut mylks really creamy and after this video I have decided that I really don’t need the almond cow. I don’t want to clutter my kitchen with another appliance that serves only one purpose and I love all the ways I can use my blender and control how creamy I can make my nut mylk. Plus cleaning the almond cow filter didn’t look as easy as I thought it would. I’m fine continue to manually filter my mylk if it means mylk creamy just the way I like it.

Why do you have to blend for 10mins, that's too much mine usually does it in 2-3 mins?
I have an almond cow and I still use my vitamix blender for nut milks. If I were to buy again I would get a milk maker that can also make soy milk.

Not a waste, as you can use the leftover pulp in hot cerals, for baking, etc. So there's a lot of uses for the pulp.

Just use the omega twice instead of the blender first, I used to do it, but before that soak it overnight if it's almonds, if it's oat no need

The instructions state to turn the straining and blender at an angle so you can insert the blender piece in . No need to struggle and force.
I have a philips 150 dollar blender and it works perfectly for almond milk and smoothies. It might take a bit longer but it gets the job done.

I have both a Vitamix and an Almond Cow and the Almond Cow is SO much faster than the Vitamix at making nut milk. I don't have to strain it or soak the almonds with the Almond Cow. Also, this girl didn't read the (very short) instructions that come with the Almond Cow because it says to hold the strainer and top portion at an angle when inserting the top into the strainer. I have never had a problem getting the two connected doing that. I also disagree that the Almond Cow is more expensive. Even if it were slightly, the almond pulp is great to use in so many things. I only have two kitchen appliances that I use regularly (besides my microwave and stove) and they are my Vitamix and Almond Cow. I consider both essentials.
The vitamix is more versatile, which in tern makes it cheaper
It's a one trick pony, while a Vitamix is incredibly versatile, more powerful, and is well known to last forever (mine is over 20 years old and going strong). Almond Cow, Nutr, etc, are absolutely fine for those who want them, but I don't want to spend money or give up counter space for a product that only does one thing. If I were to buy a dedicated milk maker, I'd go for the simpler, smaller Nutr, but none of the milk makers come close to the creamy finished product that my Vitamix makes. The fact that there are multiple workarounds to fix the watery result from the Almond Cow, like running through multiple cycles or using a second cup of almonds to enrich it is all the assurance I need that my Vitamix is worth its weight in gold.

Also, maybe running the Almond Cow for two cycles could help it get more creamy like the Vitamix almond milk, also they have a recipe for “creamer” that uses the strainer/collection cup and doing that could possibly contribute a thicker creamier product that could be diluted some into “milk.”

My favorite is (Planet Oat) regular oat milk. Its the freakin best! I really want the Almond Cow appliance so so bad! It does look really nice. Will match my Berkey perfectly! 🍁🎃
I was fortunate enough to get a coupon for planet oat’s oat milk a couple of years ago, which made me decide to pull the trigger to try a non-dairy milk for the first time. I was blown away with how delicious it was, and just how much BETTER it tasted than dairy milk! What a great brand/product.
The only problem I have with Oat milk is oats are extremely high in Glyphosates, unless it's organic it is loaded with poison😟😦
I find that if you tilt the central chamber of the Almond Cow, and tilt the cup of almonds, it is pretty easy to get those motor blades situated and the cup locked in place.

The crucial issue here is that you're not supposed to soak the nuts when using the Almond Cow, it's just advised to soak whole GRAINS (eg oats). So, that is why she had issues attaching the strainer (nuts expanded) and why her almond milk in comparison was more watery with the Almond Cow, because she had soaked the almonds in advance and they retained that water. So, in fact, the Almond Cow is highly efficient and easy to use. I used to strain my nut milk after blending, and I find using the Almond Cow preferably - also, the milk is warmed and frothy. You can use the pulp for other prep/meals (eg overnight oats). In addition, the "strainer cup" that she refers to, is also used to make a more concentrated creamer with your Almond Cow. Clearly, I am a fan.

I have! Interestingly enough, homemade milk still tastes creamier to me. I also notice that the milk settles and separates faster when you use the pastes vs. whole nuts

You can use a vitamix/blender for so many things. The almond cow has 1 use only and is expensive and huge! The almond cow is a no for me.
If you look on the website there’s SO MANY recipes for different things to make like mojitos or raspberry lemonade. Definitely more versatile than it seems.

I was a bit discouraged first few attempts- but found so many helpful tips! My fav is to combine nuts and seeds and oats, several diff combos depending on my mood. So fast to make and clean up !!! Just LOVE it !!

Nah almond cow is way easier. Less daunting for sure. And they have great recipes. I'll stick with a ninja for a blender/processor and have my almond cow.

I was thinking of getting a Almond Cow so I can make other drinks however mainly just to have another gadget ( I love kitchen gadgets lol) I do know my almond milk from the Via Blender is very creamy!! I have heard the Almond Cow was more watery. So on that note I think your comparison was spot on. Thank you for your help on making my decision... Great review and very informative.

Thanks for the video. I was curious about what the advantages were compared to making it with my Vitamix. Honestly, I think the Almond Cow is just a fad and may not last as long as a Vitamix. It’s $195.00 on Amazon, or at least the one I saw, and if I was going to spend that kind of $$, I’d save up for a Vitamix.

I appreciate you for doing this review. It was quite helpful. I have a Blendtech and I have used it and a nutbag to make almond milk and cashew milk. I do plan to save up and get a Vitamix and sell my Blendtech. I find that although the Blendtech is quite powerful, if I try to follow a recipe where someone is using a Vitamix, my blender forms an air bubble where the blades are and nothing can get blended unless I stop it and push all of the ingredients down and blend again. This usually only happens when I make low moisture recipes or frozen recipes.
My vitamix does the same when i make banana nice cream or smoothies, it just comes with a tamper to use to break the air pockets.

I think it's better to use a regular blender to make nut milk manually, because the difference isn't very big and you have less things to clean up but the automatic filtering is definitely a huge differentiator. Manually I'd turn the milk into a smoothie with black spotted bananas

This is why I like making my nut milks in my slow juicer. I also blanch my almonds, because it is easier to digest without the skin, plus I feel it makes my milks last longer. I get a finer pulp that is more like a flour consistency in the slow juicer and it doesn’t heat up and get as much oxidation as a blender or the almond cow.
What slow juicer do you use?

Just a little update, the Almond Cow IG and website/blog has TONS of recipes for fruit infusions, hot drinks, etc that you can also make in the Almond Cow, but I’m current choosing between the AC and the Nutramilk

honest, unbiased review! I already have a vita mix and use that to make my mylk but when I saw the almond cow I seriously debated whether or not to buy it. I was really drawn to the ease of not using a nutbag but was hesistant with so many factors you mentioned: price and the minimum water required. I love my nut mylks really creamy and after this video I have decided that I really don’t need the almond cow. I don’t want to clutter my kitchen with another appliance that serves only one purpose and I love all the ways I can use my blender and control how creamy I can make my nut mylk. Plus cleaning the almond cow filter didn’t look as easy as I thought it would. I’m fine continue to manually filter my mylk if it means mylk creamy just the way I like it.
