Nice tutorial, Matt. I am making them now for my granddaughter. will be a surprise. Meeting her at the end of school and I am bringing them to her. your recipe is so very yummmmmm! thank you very much.
My brother-in-law's favorite candy is peanut butter cups. He helps me out whenever something needs repair and so I make your peanut butter cups for him & my sister as a little thank you and they LOVE them . So, Thanks Matt!
That is awesome! Let me know how they turn out when you make them, and how they like them. :) Also, I would store them in the fridge, if they stay out too long at room temp they will start to get really soft. :)
Making these for my grown kids for Easter. Thanks for the recipe reminder, Matt! I buy dark morsels made by ENJOY (no junk in them) and they are delicious. Instead of butter sometimes I put coconut oil but we like either/or. I also use natural peanut butter and don't add sugar because my family likes the salty peanut butter with the sweet chocolate. 😊🍫🥜🐇
Awesome and you are very welcome! Yes the cool thing about making these at home is you can use your favorite chocolate and favorite peanut butter, even homemade peanut butter. :)
Im 14. Me, my mom, and 4 year old brother LOVE reeses. He ate all his mini reeses today, so i looked up if i could make some. We had everything we needed except powdered sugar, chocolate chips, and a chocolate bar. My mother got them for me so i could try to make us some, even though she didnt understand how using the muffin wrappers wouldnt make them into muffins LOL. They are cooling right now. I tried the peanut butter and chocolate as i put the dishes into the sink and it was delicious. Im so excited to try them! Ill also see if my 12 year old brother, who isnt really a reeses fan, will like them! Ill update when theyre done cooling, and ill update on what the 4 year old thinks when he wakes up tomorrow. Thank you so much :D
I moved my family to Uruguay in South America (between Argentina and the southeast coast) two years ago, and my ten year old was asking about these yesterday. I found your recipe and he and I are making them today! North American candy is hit or miss down here. Looking forward to these SO much.
Matt, They came out SO AWESOME. I used half a bag of semisweet chips, and a dark chocolate candy bar, and I DID split the peanut butter and put half in the chocolate. My kids wanted to eat all 12 giant cups in one sitting! I had to lay down the law or I wouldn't even had gotten a taste! Definitely a new staple around here. BTW, I was a chef once upon a time so I know good food when I taste it! Five stars and definitely superior to Reeses :D
Your peanut butter cup recipe is by far my favorite. When I made them, I used that peanut butter mixture, but I also melted half of a cup of white chocolate and half a cup of peanut butter together and they both taste exactly the same. Also, when I use the peanut butter mixture, I usually leave out the butter. Just saying.
Dana Williamson Thank you Dana, I definitely like it! I make it so often!! I sometimes leave out the butter in the peanut butter if I happen to be out of it, but if I have it I usually include it.
That's also really good thinking putting an extra 1/4 cup of peanut butter into the chocolate while melting it. I put 1-2 small spoonfuls of peanut butter on the chocolate before melting it in the microwave.
Dana Williamson I have also made them without adding the extra peanut butter to the chocolate, but I prefer it with it in there. Honestly its really hard to mess up these peanut butter cups! haha
I just made these, they tasted great but I think the next time I make these I'm going to use a bit more salt. I like the salty sweet flavour the reeses has. Adding peanut butter to the melted chocolate is absolutely genius. Thank you this will save me so much money now that I'm confident with making my own.
Awesome Dan!! Yeah you can totally go nuts with them and make them your own. If you like more salty ones add a bit more salt. I like to drizzle white chocolate sometimes on the top too, and use different chocolates. Like dark chocolate on the bottom, milk on top, or white and dark, etc. :)

Thanks for sharing your recipe with us! They are so incredibly delicious! I have made them twice. This last time I decided to experiment with the recipe. I replaced the sugar with Monk Fruit and I mixed dark chocolate chips with semi-sweet chocolate chips & 1/4 of a large Symphony bar and reg salt for Himalayan pink salt. They turned out way better than the first time. ❤❤❤

I like how in your version the peanut butter center can be shaped into flat discs and placed on top of the bottom chocolate layer. In most other recipes the middle peanut butter layer is a more liquid consistency and has to be poured or spooned on top of the bottom chocolate layer.
Thanks, Shawn!! Yeah, sometimes it can be sure sticky and hard to work with the peanut butter with other recipes. The key is adding more powdered sugar, so it is more of a play dough consistency. I probably make this treat the most out of all my treats. haha
I was wondering why you said turn on your oven but you meant stove top,but I am going to try them they look delicious everyone loves peanut butter around here
Thanks, I used to do that with my earlier videos like this, but stopped doing it in my videos. People kept complaining that the prices were different where they lived.
what a weird thing to nitpick. as if the price of a particular good is supposed to be exactly the same worldwide. I just took it as general. because who'd think costs would remain exactly the same throughout the years anyway.

Thanks a lot... I love peanut butter cups... And in India its a lot costly... It's like 85 bucks for a cup... While regular sized Indian chocolate costs me around 20 bucks... And They are way bigger than peanut butter cups... So the recipe made my day...
Great tutorial. It would be nice to have the recipe on screen as you mentioned each item. I loved the cost breakdown. It reminds me of the Christmas cinnamon raisin bread from years ago. Good job.
Thank you!! Yes I am still playing with the format of these videos. until I find something I really like, that I will use across the board. Oh I will probably make a video of that bread too!!
Awesome!!! Glad you tried it out. I store mine in the fridge and eat them right after taking them out, so that helps. Otherwise you would need to temper the chocolate. Another option which I do quite frequently, especially if I am taking them to a party where they will be on display, is I use Chocolate Candy Melts. Those don't have any cocoa butter in them, so they set up at room temperature, and don't melt as easy. And they still taste amazing, not quite as good as with real chocolate.
About the chocolate melting on your fingers, there are a least two possible reasons. The first is that the peanut that Matt mixed into the chocolate adds fat, and probably lowers the melting temperature of the chocolate. Most chocolatiers do not recommend adding any extra fat to dipping or 'enrobing' chocolate. I do not add the peanut butter to my chocolate when making these. The second possible reason is that the chocolate melting technique shown will usually result in chocolate that is not properly tempered. This can result in chocolate that has an unpredictable melt temperature, and fat streaks, and gray or white spots. Tempering chocolate does not require any special tools except for a accurate thermometer and some extra care and time. It is within the ability of almost any home cook, but takes a little practice.
The recipe I have is only slightly different and I am sure your recipe turns out as awesome as mine...the only difference I do with mine pretty much is use a cookie sheet or the sort and spread the chocolate on the sheet or I put a wax paper down on the cookie sheet and put the chocolate on that {this will make it so much easier to remove the whole thing later from the cookie sheet, hence making it easier to cut}...I freeze it for about 15ish so minutes...then spread the peanut butter mixture over the frozen chocolate...freeze it again for a bit and then pour the rest of the chocolate over the peanut butter mixture...place back in the fridge, when done in the fridge... I slice up the whole thing about half way down...so they are easy to cut when anyone would like one...I too love this recipe, it's so easy to make and so does my two adult sons...however they just like to eat 'em...not make 'em. Oh well, you can't win 'em all. Thank you for sharing your recipe. :)
I miss Reese cups from the 60's. They used to taste so good back then. This was before M&M's came out with the slogan "melts in your mouth, not in your hand", and the idea spread to all chcolate candies from there. I never had a problem with Reese cups being melty.
I love your recipe. Decided to print it finally and the measurements are not the same as in your video. Since I know your video version is perfect, I'm sticking with it :)
hahaha yeah I have two different video versions, the link is to this one. To be honest it is so easy to make, I rarely even to measurements any more. I just start with some peanut butter and butter in a bowl, add a pinch of salt, not always, and then mix it together, then start adding powdered sugar until I get that play dough consistency. Then I just melt the chocolate. Of course I have made this so many times, it is like second nature, hahaha. ruclips.net/video/fU8TPG2z01c/видео.html
That is so cool!! haha I am too, pretty much every party I go to I make them and bring them. haha well those and my twix bars! Have you seen my twix bars video? oh my those are super yummy. Both the oreo cookie based ones and the shortbread based ones.
Hey Matt just wondering if you can use like Coco powder instead of chocolate chips and if you can can you please contact me and let me know how to do it if you're using cocoa powder or if it's just the same method thank you
Hi Matt! Thanks for the awsome recipes. Could I ask what the weight is of the choc chip bag is please? We don't get them packaged in standard sizes in South Africa
Because original Reese's peanut butter cups don't have graham cracker crumbs. :) You can certainly use graham cracker crumbs if you want. Growing up as a kid, my mom made something similar, with graham cracker crumbs. But these taste even better then the real Reese's. give them a try using the ingredients I used and see how you like them. :)
What's the measurement for the bar of chocolate?... 8 oz, ...12? Also you said to mix 1/2c pb with powdered sugar, then you said put the other 1/4 c in the choc. Can I assume that you only used 1/4 of pb in the filling? I checked Instructables, the site was down.
Hello! Yes so in this video I used 1/4 cup of peanut butter with the powder sugar and added the other 1/4cup of peanut butter to the chocolate. each candy bar was 4.4 ounces. I don't really make it like that any more. I normally make it like this video - ruclips.net/video/fU8TPG2z01c/видео.html
My apologies, I watched again & noticed where the chocolate bars come into play. That's really genius, and I will be making mine like that from now on. That, along with adding peanut butter in with the melted chocolate. Thanks
Thank you Stacy! You are welcome. And you forgot...they taste so much better! I don't even like to eat Reese's any more, because they just don't taste that good compared to these.
Matt, I've loved PB/choc cups, but now I've grown a little tired of them (ate too many, I guess). Have you experimented with other types of "nut butters", like almond or maybe even macademia?
Yes, that is a great point. I haven't yet experimented with other nut butters. Although I do love Almond butter. I bet they would be good with that, or even cashew butter. I will have to experiment. I am sure they would all taste amazing!
In The Kitchen With Matt If not TJs or AJs, you can find it online, Matt. Or, even better, how about cashew/macadamia! www.amazon.com/Macadamia-Cashew-Butter-Raw-Organic-oz/dp/B004JNZL1W
In The Kitchen With Matt If you can find the nuts you can always make your own nut butters. My Wonder Jr Deluxe grain mill has steel burs for doing nut butters.
@Apeman Commeth Hi there, Actual Reese's are commercially made, it is hard to make something with the exact texture. These are super easy to make, just give them a try :) Everyone I have made them for or who has tasted them likes them better than the original. The filling isn't as salty but the texture is close to the originals.
Costs will vary depending on how expensive the ingredients are in your area. I actually stopped putting the costs in my videos for this reason. Ray did you like the homemade ones better then the originals? How did you calculate the costs? Did you take into account that you only used a portion of the jar of peanut butter, and only a bit of the bag of powdered sugar? etc. Just curious, because mine are always super cheap to make. Glad you made them!
@@ArrowoodsHobbyShop-Ebay lol Chris, I know what he meant. I used to buy Reeses Peanut Butter cups, my supermarket has 2 king sized peanut butter cups in one pack for $1. The whole point of the costs breakdown, is that they are way cheaper and taste way better to make at home. in the video they were on sale when I got them, but normally cost .35 to .50 cents per cup, at least at my supermarket. But yeah, I stopped putting costs in my videos, because they always vary, both the actual product (in this case the store bought peanut butter cups, and the ingredients for the homemade ones.) and heck this video is 5 years old. lol ok
Nope, but you can if you want. Just store them in the fridge. But if you are going to leave them out at room temperature for long periods of time, temper the chocolate or use candy melts. :)
The Noob Dude You know what, you probably could, or I have also just left the butter out all together and it tasted just fine. Sometimes I will even leave out the salt, and just use the peanut butter and powdered sugar. I hope that helps!
Lydia Mendez I have only ever used powdered sugar, it helps to get the right taste and texture, you can certainly experiment with other substitutes if you like, I haven't done it, so I can't give advice on substitutes. If I run across something I will let you know! :)
About 170 grams. But keep in mind the amount of chocolate doesn't have to be exact, just enough to put a layer of chocolate on the bottom of the papercup, then the peanut butter mixture, and then another layer of chocolate on the top.
Ilene Osran I just use the cheap kroger brand creamy peanut butter. You can use any peanut butter you like, if you want to add some character try using chunky, or if you want to go "healthy" lol try almond butter. Or if you want to do the organic, you can use organic. :) It's totally up to you, and whatever of those options you pick, it is still going to taste super yummy! :)
No it doesn't have to be tempered, if you are going to store them in the fridge. Or if the room temperature of your home is fairly cool. But yes if the chocolate isn't tempered these will get soft at room temperature after 30 minutes to an hour. But if you use chocolate candy melts, then there is no issues, since there is no cocoa butter in the candy melts.
besides you using your own ingredients- and -knowing there is no preservatives in them--I prefer your home made ones--plus yours are bigger and cheaper to make--walmart usually sells these 2 for a dollar --
Christy Fonseca That is for the burner, to heat up the pot of water with the bowl of chocolate, to melt the chocolate. Or alternatively you can melt your chocolate in the microwave. Bursts of 25 to 30 seconds then stir, and then again, and keep doing that until it is melted.
hard to say, but you can be off by a little bit. if you wind up with a little bit extra, dip some fruit into it. :) the above recipe is using roughly 14 ounces of chocolate unmelted - melted around a 1 1/4 cups.
Yes definitely! :) You can use any kind of chocolate really :). Sometimes I do a dark chocolate for the bottom and then a milk chocolate on the top. It is pretty cool! A very easy and versatile treat! :)
+Audrey Homwe oh sooo sorry, I guess I must have missed this comment. Unsalted butter, but if you use salted butter, leave out the extra salt the recipe calls for. :)
Umm y did u say..turn on the oven when u didnt use it🤔 and you dont say to use peanut butter in the cho.and what did you do with the bars? All it showed is using the chips
Hi, Anne no the stovetop which is part of the oven. The bars get melted in with the chocolate chips I show that at 2:05, you can use either or both together as I did. You can put some peanut butter in the chocolate or leave it out, it is up to you. I talk about using the peanut butter in the chocolate at 2:22
umm that defeats the purpose of making things at home. you can just go buy a box of cookies too, or a cake or, always go out to eat. lol. Also homemade tastes way better.
Gayle it looks like you misread it. That $1 is for a half of a standard bag or 1 cup of chocolate chips not the whole bag. I still can buy bags of chocolate chips for $1.99 :) But of course prices will vary depending on where you live, etc. That is the reason I stopped doing the price breakdown at the end of my videos long ago.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt , u r rite! It is more pricey where i live. A candybar is now 1.59 at the local walmart. Chips i buy on sale for 1.99 if im lucky to find them. Generally i get generic. I gotta try ur recipe so i will watch the sales.
@@gaylescovel7308 I usually get generic too, store brand, Great Value from Walmart or Kroger brand from my local supermarket. Every once in awhile I find the tollhouse chips on sale for 2 for $5 which is nice! haha :)
especially if you eat them all...luckily I have friends that live near by that I can distribute my treats too, so I won't be tempted to eat them all. haha
+Nana Sau haha no, I am sure there is way more biased taste testing out there. :) But really homemade peanut butter cups are better then the store bought Reese's. In my opinion. Make them for yourself, and you can do your own taste test and decide. :)
excuse me? Have you even been in a kitchen? lol have you seen any cooking shows? The only difference is sometimes there is a require to wear plastic gloves. Cooking is all about handling the food.
that is your interpretation of my facial expression, do you know me? No haha so how would you know if I like something or not, you can't base something on appearance alone. They are super yummy. try them out and see. :)

It is within the ability of almost any home cook, but takes a little practice.
you make them a tad different then i do. i only used peanut butter and chocolate. I will have to try it your way once. thanks for the video.
You are welcome! Definitely give them a try and see how you like them. :)
I use unsalted butter, however, if you use salted, you can probably leave out the extra salt. It depends on your particular taste.
These look so great! I can't wait to try it out!
Thank you!! Let me know how they turn out! :) You won't be sorry! :)
Awesome!! :) And you are welcome!
I miss Reese cups from the 60's. They used to taste so good back then. This was before M&M's came out with the slogan "melts in your mouth, not in your hand", and the idea spread to all chcolate candies from there. I never had a problem with Reese cups being melty.
Their taste definitely has changed over the years, that is for sure!
I love your recipe. Decided to print it finally and the measurements are not the same as in your video. Since I know your video version is perfect, I'm sticking with it :)
hahaha yeah I have two different video versions, the link is to this one. To be
honest it is so easy to make, I rarely even to measurements any more. I just start with some peanut butter and butter in a bowl, add a pinch of salt, not always, and then mix it together, then start adding powdered sugar until I get that play dough consistency. Then I just melt the chocolate. Of course I have made this so many times, it is like second nature, hahaha.

I can't wait to make these! Thanks!! :-)
Awesome! Did you ever wind up making them?
I did and they're awesome! I'm addicted to peanut butter cups so these are perfect for me :-)
That is so cool!! haha I am too, pretty much every party I go to I make them and bring them. haha well those and my twix bars! Have you seen my twix bars video? oh my those are super yummy. Both the oreo cookie based ones and the shortbread based ones.
I'll check out your twix bars vid- sounds so good! I love shortbread so will love to make them! Thanks! :-)
Cool! Let me know if you have any questions!
Hey Matt just wondering if you can use like Coco powder instead of chocolate chips and if you can can you please contact me and let me know how to do it if you're using cocoa powder or if it's just the same method thank you
Hi there, you can make homemade chocolate with cocoa powder follow this video ruclips.net/video/bpH5QW9yvEk/видео.html
@@inthekitchenwithmatt oh my God thank you so much I really want to make this and you answered my comment and I split second thank you so much

Cool going to try this my son's favorite
Awesome Don! Please do and let me know how they turn out and how he likes them!
Will this work with natural peanut butter, the kind that has to be stirred? My son loves pb cups but I don't like the chemicals in them.
Hello, Nancy! Yes it will definitely work with natural or homemade peanut butter. :) :)
I know they taste better just looking at them! Matt l will make them its to easy not to at least try😍
Hehehe awesome, Janet!! let me know how they turn out. :) :)
It looks so good that's a thumbs up for me😍😍😍👍👍👍👍👍
well thank you!!! :)
You welcome
WOW!
My kids say -Thank You!
Awesome! you are welcome! :)
PS: Thank you for the breakdown of time and $$! very thoughtful.
You are welcome!
Hi Matt! Thanks for the awsome recipes. Could I ask what the weight is of the choc chip bag is please? We don't get them packaged in standard sizes in South Africa
Hi there, it's about 2 cups or around 350g. But the amount of chocolate really doesn't matter. You don't need to be precise. :)
Very nice
Thank you!!!
So goood.! Thank you.!
You are so very welcome Amber! So glad you liked it!
Why do you not use Graham cracker crumbs?
Thanks
You are very welcome!!! Thanks for watching!!
+In The Kitchen With Matt.....No problem. Loving your videos, Matt!
Great!!
Hii matt thank you for sharing this :) i think homemade is better because 1)its cheaper 2) you know whats in them
Thank you Stacy! You are welcome. And you forgot...they taste so much better! I don't even like to eat Reese's any more, because they just don't taste that good compared to these.
yummy!!!
Thank you!
Mmmmmmmm look mouth watering good
Thank you!
I haven't seen macademia butter, although I can probably find it at Trader Joes or AJs fine foods.
In The Kitchen With Matt
If not TJs or AJs, you can find it online, Matt. Or, even better, how about cashew/macadamia! www.amazon.com/Macadamia-Cashew-Butter-Raw-Organic-oz/dp/B004JNZL1W
TechSupport100 Nice!! Those would make for an awesome variation. I will certainly have to try it. Thanks for the link!
In The Kitchen With Matt If you can find the nuts you can always make your own nut butters. My Wonder Jr Deluxe grain mill has steel burs for doing nut butters.
Great Video!!! I made these for my kids earlier and they keep begging me to make more :)
Thank you so much!! I am glad you and your kids like them!!
Do they actually taste similar to the original? I made it without the chocolate bars (just chocolate chips) and it didn’t taste like the originals
No, they taste better. :)
Hi how many calories in each piece ? Thank you :)
hahaha I have no idea. :) Probably between 100 and 130 calories.
I gotta make these myself now!! Damn!!
For sure!! :)
Good Video Matt Thanks
+imthefrogman1 Thank you!! You are welcome!
ours cost 1.25 and you may can get them on sale for.80 for 2 cups kings side are more
Costs will vary depending on how expensive the ingredients are in your area.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt 2 years ago. 😂 But he meant for a regular pack of Reese cups is 1.25
@@ArrowoodsHobbyShop-Ebay lol Chris, I know what he meant. But yeah, I stopped putting costs in my videos, because they always vary, both the actual product (in this case the store bought peanut butter cups, and the ingredients for the homemade ones.) and heck this video is 5 years old. lol ok
You don’t have to temper the chocolate?
Nope, but you can if you want. Just store them in the fridge. But if you are going to leave them out at room temperature for long periods of time, temper the chocolate or use candy melts. :)
I just smear a glob of peanut butter on chocolate
hahaha that will do the trick! lol :)
helenevienna " he got chocolate on my peanut butter "....."he got peanut butter on my chocolate"....
helenevienna j
Instead of butter can u use shortening?
The Noob Dude You know what, you probably could, or I have also just left the butter out all together and it tasted just fine. Sometimes I will even leave out the salt, and just use the peanut butter and powdered sugar. I hope that helps!
Does it have to be powdered sugar
Lydia Mendez I have only ever used powdered sugar, it helps to get the right taste and texture, you can certainly experiment with other substitutes if you like, I haven't done it, so I can't give advice on substitutes. If I run across something I will let you know! :)
Can you please tell me in grams how much is a half a bag of chocolate chips...
About 170 grams. But keep in mind the amount of chocolate doesn't have to be exact, just enough to put a layer of chocolate on the bottom of the papercup, then the peanut butter mixture, and then another layer of chocolate on the top.
What peanut butter did you use?
Ilene Osran I just use the cheap kroger brand creamy peanut butter. You can use any peanut butter you like, if you want to add some character try using chunky, or if you want to go "healthy" lol try almond butter. Or if you want to do the organic, you can use organic. :) It's totally up to you, and whatever of those options you pick, it is still going to taste super yummy! :)
Shouldn't the chocolate be tempered before using it, otherwise chocolate gets melted easily and might have a bloom also.
No it doesn't have to be tempered, if you are going to store them in the fridge. Or if the room temperature of your home is fairly cool. But yes if the chocolate isn't tempered these will get soft at room temperature after 30 minutes to an hour. But if you use chocolate candy melts, then there is no issues, since there is no cocoa butter in the candy melts.
besides you using your own ingredients- and -knowing there is no preservatives in them--I prefer your home made ones--plus yours are bigger and cheaper to make--walmart usually sells these 2 for a dollar --
Yeah homemade ones are the best! haha and definitely cheaper. :)
Why did you turn the uven on?
Christy Fonseca That is for the burner, to heat up the pot of water with the bowl of chocolate, to melt the chocolate. Or alternatively you can melt your chocolate in the microwave. Bursts of 25 to 30 seconds then stir, and then again, and keep doing that until it is melted.
Christy Fonseca I meant to reply from this channel. haha sorry
This dude looks like my Doctor. This video is hype AF!
hahaha
He kind of favors my cardiologist lol
can someone tell me exactly how many cups of melted chocolate is that
hard to say, but you can be off by a little bit. if you wind up with a little bit extra, dip some fruit into it. :) the above recipe is using roughly 14 ounces of chocolate unmelted - melted around a 1 1/4 cups.
Matt, It looks like you used creamy peanut butter. Did you ever try to use chunky peanut butter? Thanks so much for posting your videos.
Wow not sure how I missed this comment. No I haven't tried making them with chunky peanut butter, but definitely will! :)
What if you melt down a real Reese's for the center of your homemade ones
You could certainly give that a try! :)
can i just use cadbury chocolate to make it ? just asking :/
Yes definitely! :) You can use any kind of chocolate really :). Sometimes I do a dark chocolate for the bottom and then a milk chocolate on the top. It is pretty cool! A very easy and versatile treat! :)
Thank you matt
You are very welcome! :) Let me know how they turn out!
Is it salted butter?
I don't know
+Audrey Homwe oh sooo sorry, I guess I must have missed this comment. Unsalted butter, but if you use salted butter, leave out the extra salt the recipe calls for. :)
OK thx
Lydia Mendez You are very welcome!
Can u not use a chocolate bar
yep! you can just use chocolate chips if you like, or the milk chocolate candy coatings, or any chocolate really. :)
than*
I'll use dark chocolate.
mmm yummy! I used dark chocolate sometimes and even white chocolate sometimes! You could also drizzle white chocolate on top.

One dollar for choc chips! Lol, not nowadays.
Every once in awhile I find the tollhouse chips on sale for 2 for $5 which is nice! haha :)
