I had to see the joy of 2 American tourists to understand how appreciated these types of food are. for a Romanian it is something common, nothing special, all Romanians cook something like this at home. the 4 pieces of meat of that kind cost 1.5 dollars, potatoes 40 cents, [by the way, mustard paste contains a lot of horseradish] beans are 70 cents and zacusca is 2 dollars. That's how much this meal costs if you make it at home, you calculate the numbers. It's quite cheap, don't you believe it, I'm asking you. I want to tell you something. In England, I worked there for a while, building metal stages for music concerts, I wanted to eat something traditional. That fish more boiled than fried and potatoes with the taste of...towel. In the end, I got dessert, that piece of cake with something hot and sweet on top, it had a vague taste of sour cherries. In Romania, we really have good food at taste. I wish you all the best

When French people in Paris woke in a morning after Napoleon's defeat they saw a bunch of Cossacks roaming the streets with two pistols putt in X on their belts and menacing big knives on their hips who were entering Inns . They were ordering food but the Inn owner was not in the rush and Cossacks saying to them : Birsta Birsta ( Hurry up hurry up in Russian). So..this way the Parisian Bristo was borne. So...the Inn's owner prepared in the kitchen something quick to eat for the new guests...something that Cossacks called " закуска" (zakuska and this mean a snack). Also when Russians chased away the Sweden army from Poltava (Russian stll have a saying : You fled like Swedes from Polatava), Swedes found refuge in North Moldavia where for the first time they eat meat balls and took the recipe back with them. Sweden national food "Swede meat balls" its actually Romanian. We call meat balls chiftele from Turkish Kiufte or Küfte. They had two types of cannons , one big that shoot big cannon balls called gülle and a small bombard that shoot small cannon balls called Küfte. So in Romania meatballs are called chiftele. You should try them...are very tasty
