I love it when someone who knows what they are talking about explains something very clearly. I'm a terrible musician but I enjoy playing. This is a song I would love to tackle. From this tutorial I shall retry this peice after 20 years. Thanks for the video, much appreciated.
Thanks for your comment. No I don't teach music theory, but there are certainly many online who do. As a composer I am fascinated with how music actually WORKS using analytical tools - and studying Tori has been very educational.
Yes, it is challenging as we don't often read in that key (particularly in pop music). But Tori is a pianist, and I know too that 6-7 flats can feel really good under the hands. One trick you can do with this number of flats is to simply imagine that the key sig has only one F# and play in Em. Easy transposition! Best wishes.
@@OpeningBars someone needs to invent a piano that can easily be retuned like a guitar so I could just play this tuned a half step down ☺️😝 much more civilized
You make an interesting observation - does too much analysis kill the music? I don't think so - it's one of the reasons I created this channel - to create deeper understandings of the mysteries of music and to play better! Nahre Sol just released a lovely little video about this too - What's the Point of Analyzing Music? - she explains it much better than I ever could. ruclips.net/video/i2T8pDvtIf8/видео.html Thanks for commenting!
this is wonderful ty

You are welcome. It's a beautiful piece.
Who are you and do you teach music theory fundamentals so I can actually follow what you were talking about when analyzing this masterpiece?

This tutorial underscores several point. 1) This song appears simple. 2) I certainly is NOT. 3) Tori Amos is a witch.
So so true ...
👌
Reading a song in Eb minor for piano makes this so much more difficult to follow.

@@adamfstewart81 lol. Actually I rather prefer playing in 6 or 7 flats than 3-4 flats .. sits under the hands so much better.
Anyone else just want to learn the song? OMG. Let's theory it to death for 2 hours.
