It amazes me that so few reaction channels actually cover any of Tori's music. She is one of the most talented artists I have EVER heard, an incredible song writer, very gifted piano player, brilliant lyricist, a total one of a kind.
Oh PLEASE go down the Tori Amos rabbit hole! Child prodigy. Youngest individual to be accepted into the Peabody Conservatory of Music …. at the age of five. Lyrics filled with incredible imagery, vivid metaphors, and mystical realms. Many, many albums and each one completely different. I’ve seen her live three times; she’s incomparable, and special. Rare talent. I urge you to listen to more, you will gradually become more and more impressed and addicted. Very important artist. Thank you for the reaction. :)
My favorite Tori Amos song. It moves me to tears - so beautiful, so poetic, really gets to me. "When you gonna love you as much as I do?" Oh, my heart. So relatable.
I like the note you read about the symbolism of the "white horses" and how it's about a disconnection from imagination, childhood and magical worlds. I definitely hear that in the lyrics and the magical notes of the piano. In addition, when I first heard this song, I also heard it as meaning that as girls we're often taught (like "Sleeping Beauty" or Disney princesses) that the knight on the white horse will come save us or fall in love with us or take us somewhere special... but in the song, she's saying the white horses have already gone ahead, they're not here, they're still in bed; in other words, they aren't going to save you -- you have to stand up for yourself. You have to believe in yourself. Don't look to fairy tales to complete you; you can love and appreciate yourself. You just have to make up your mind to realize your own wonderfulness and love yourself (as much as the father loves her in this song).
She's a treasure. So many a rock and metal fan was also a fan of her unique voice back in the 90s Don't be in a hurry to move to her later albums, this first one is wonderful all the way through. Silent All These Years & Precious Things are well worth the listen.
I echo that, I am predominantly a metal head and i love Tori Amos. And "Little Earthquakes" is a perfect album. I think the cross over from the rock crowd isn't only the brilliant music and lyrics but the feeling she is genuine and truthful. We don't like fakers If you get what I mean.
Tori is my absolute favorite artist of all time. I just saw her on 7/14 and she was amazing as always! Winter is my favorite song and never fails to bring me to tears. She is a prodigy, genius, and a once in a lifetime type of artist.
On the album version of this a full string orchestral arrangement comes in about halfway through that takes you out of your body and leaves you adrift until that final little hum by her at the end when you're simply left stunned. As moving a song as you'll ever hear.
Ah Daniel - please do more from Little Earthquakes! You won't be disappointed. Tori is exquisite as an artist - one woman and a piano holding her audience spellbound. I was lucky enough to her see her play live around '94. It was unforgettable. Those early albums still hit with the same magic as that first time ❤👍
Saw her live in the late 90's (?) Lowell, MA. My seat was right behind a post! My wife went to complain, and came back with two tickets in a section up front that Tori reserved for anyone who complained about their seats! OMG. Then after her first song, she apologized to the people way in the back, as she knew the sound didn't carry well there. Who does that? Tori.
Tori can still make me cry with this song....and many others. 🤣 I recommend listening to her albums in chronological order, and check out the b-sides. They're all so goddamn good. The first five albums & singles were an embarrassment of riches. I think her most recent, Ocean to Ocean, also approaches perfection. Oh, and Night of Hunters is great if you're into classical music and song cycles.
For live Tori performances, I would recommend: “Precious Things” or “Caught a Lite Sneeze” from Sessions at West 54th Street (really, any performances from that show. With the band so a little different) “Father Lucifer” from Letterman 1996 “Icicle” from either Jay Leno 1994 or from her 2001 Webcast “Sugar” from Hard Rock Live 1999 “Smells Like Teen Spirit” from either Live at Montreux or the one with the most views (also from 1992)
The gut-wrenching extra note in ‘mind’ and ‘fast’ starting at 7:10 - voice breaking at ‘fast’ - up the ante towards the end - Maria McKee did the same in her song Wheels a handful of years previous - tears you apart.
Tori Amos "little earthquakes" came out just before my 30th birthday .It gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes then and 30 years later it still does every time .she is a musical and lyrical genius . So very glad to see another generation appreciating her music !
This is one of the very best live performances I have ever seen, all the way up there with Eddie Vedder singing Black at the MTV unplugged and a few others. Her voice and emotions are so contagious in this. It's eerie and powerful and magic all together. Just like her.
This song always made me weepy before my father passed away. Now, I just downright cry, but in loving memory. It felt like this was written specifically for he and I. I imagine a lot of people feel the same way. A very magical song.
really enjoyed your reaction and how taken you were with tori's performance. reminds me of when i first got into her so many, many years ago lol - it's always great to see a fan in the making! i highly recommend you check out/react to this live performance of her song pretty good year: ruclips.net/video/dJkzi6kCy0E/видео.html
My favorites are "Baker Baker", "Past The Mission", "Cornflake Girl", and "A Sorta Fairytale", she is an extremely talented singer-songwriter. Check out her cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" it is amazing too! By the way she made a full album of covers, called "Strange Little Girls".
Obviously classicly trained she uses those gifts to paint this beautiful picture. It personally resonated with me. My father passed away when I was 12, he encouraged me to ride horses whenever I could. This song however brings memories of when we would barbecue on a campfire in the backyard and no one wanted to stay outside when the temperature dropped and dinner was done. We did, my father and I would just sit by the fire and he would tell me stories about the stars in the night's sky. One of my most vivid memories, both of us sitting there with our feet by the fire watching the sky through our frosty breath. Think I'll just let this song mean what it means to me. Thank you Daniel
The muse and inspiration of my late teens and twenties. Was blessed to see her in concert twice. She is mesmerizing. I think you would like her song 'Not the Red Baron'
Great reaction. I’m surprised that no-one else in the comments has mentioned ‘Yes, Anastasia’, which is a wonderful song that really deserves more love from the prog crowd.
I saw Tori Amos years ago In San Jose for what was to become the second disc on To Venus and Back. The show ended with a raw version of Sugar, Little Earthquakes, and Waitress. Absolutely unbelievable, primal.
I was fortunate enough to see Tori twice in concert in the 90's, and I wasn't a huge fan, but I bought "Boys for Pele" and something told me I had to see her live. I've been to easily over 100 shows (mostly metal and hard rock) and you could hear a pin drop while she played except when it was appropriate to clap/cheer. I have never seen that before or since.....she completely mesmerized the audience.
Great reaction! It would be cool to see your response to Blood Roses, from her third album. She introduces the harpsichord into her repertoire and create an awesome new atmosphoere. If you want to stick with the debut album, Precious Things and Little Earthquakes are both fantastic and show more aggressive and brooding apsects of Tori that aren't really present in Winter or Crucify.
i really enjoyed seeing u enjoying this :) tori is just a gift, ive been a fan for almost 30 years now and sometimes it still hit me how brilliant she is. an ur video reminded me once again. so thank you
I worked with a guy that knew her and her Father back in the early 90's when she was just getting big. Her Father was a minister. My friend told me he would take her to her gigs at clubs when she was under age and stay with her. He seemed to support her career dreams.
just the "sleeping beauty" line where she then emphasizes the piano... that is just 1% of how amazing she is. her breathing, the impact of the words, the impact of the lyrics, her body motions... all of it... a unicorn if there were was and I am thankful to be a fan
This performance of Winter is mesmerizing. Tori's music has such emotion and passion. I suggest listening to Silent All these Years as well as her iconic cover of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. ruclips.net/video/vB2c7_vyBSM/видео.html You won't be disappointed.
I saw her in King Tut's wah wah hut in 1992 and she was fantastic. Not long afterwards she had become more well known and played the larger Candlerigs hall with just as much magic. A super solo performer.
You really have to check out “Mohammad my Friend” which Tori performed with Maynard from TOOL at her benefit concert for RAINN in 1997. Two legends sharing the piano bench- it is amazing. I got to see it performed and Maynard was an unannounced guest, doesn’t get much better than that!
This song is so beautiful, I've never even been close to my father but it still makes me cry every time. Thank you for choosing the live performance of the song, you can see the raw talent and emotion. Your reaction really touched me.
You seem to be one of the first really genuine "reaction" RUclipsrs I've come across. Are you as genuine as you seem? I sure hope so! lol. All the other reaction videos seem like they are just people watching something to get clicks, but never giving their honest opinion. Too many phony, exaggerated reactions. Or just looking bored while they tell you it was "interesting". I hope you are still making videos.
Tori has a long and varied career and has produced some consistently amazing work. I discovered her back in the mid90s and have seen her at least 8 times in concert. “From the Choirgirl Hotel” is probably my favorite album of the bunch and is sooooooo worth your time.
Tori is the only artist who can use poetry but yet provide the energy of what the song is regarding and even then we all can take that energy & make the song be about whatever we want. Tori can change whatever mood I am in and transform it to pure happiness. She helps me process, address & transcend my mood while learning the lesson I needed 💎
Daniel, in my interpretation, you got the flip at the end SPOT ON, the white horses going ahead represent the sacrifices that most parents make for their children to feed their dreams. You should make a point to listen to the studio version, it's such a beautiful song. This performance is also made even more special when you realize her parents were in the audience, so during key moments in the song, you can see her make eye contact with her father. Perhaps your next Tori song should be a fun one, check out Happy Phantom. It's best with Tori Amos to follow her progression, go in order of album release to help keep her evolution in context.
I'm so glad you enjoyed that, Daniel. I thought you would appreciate her artistry and her talent. She is quite an amazing performer. I tear up every single time I listen to that song, especially the live version. Honestly, you should listen to her debut album, Little Earthquakes in its entirety, because it is really quite spectacular. Otherwise, check out Silent All these Years, Precious Things, Tear in My Hand (one of my favorite break-up songs), China, Little Earthquakes. Thanks for listening to it!
Tori Amos’ music has always seemed timeless to me. Like it could’ve come out at any point in the last 30 years and still hit hard. I love your reactions and how you break down these songs. You’re very insightful and intelligent -- a combination not normally found in one person. Keep up the great work! 💛xo
Enjoy your Tori journey including the later albums which are patchy but still have absolutely stellar moments. "Gold Dust" is a song from her middle period which packs a similar emotional punch to this one and although the themes aren't identical there's an overlap to do with change and how life's peak moments are fleeting and ephemeral
You really need to check out "Silent All These Years." If you thought her first two songs were amazing, you'll be blown away by "Silent All These Years"
You can pick pretty much any song from the 1st 4 solo album + the B-Sides , band, no band, live or studio.... Winter is the 1st Video I ever saw of Tori, it was on MTV back in 92-93 and I followed her up to to The beekeeper, after that, I kinda stopped, but then again, I never listen to her last 3 albums, so I will have to give them a try. Song suggestion, especially to change album: Raspberry Swirl, Caught a Lite Sneeze, Space Dog. B-Sides: Upside Down and honey.
Daniel, you mentioned how she needed no other instruments, just her voice and the piano. Listen to “Me and a Gun” - it’s an accapella song, from the same album as “Winter”. I think you will be moved. Just listen to the entire album, lol - “Little Earthquakes”.
Music fan. I heard “Me and a Gun” the subject matter is controversial. Tori goes into detail. Daniel likes dark songs but this about a violation of a woman. Daniel’s a Christian and I think this song could be uncomfortable for him to react to and possibly the Legion. This song is inappropriate for this channel. My opinion.
@@jaemyrick5277 interesting. I do respect your opinion, I just disagree. Murder, racism, misogyny, abuse, etc…, are also “controversial” subject matter yet Daniel, “as a Christian” dissects those lyrics with a level of maturity that belies his youth. So, I, as a Christian, will agree to disagree with you. I don’t believe if we bury our heads, things disappear. Life happens, the good, the bad, the ugly. It’s ok to listen to something that might make one uncomfortable. We can grow, become more empathetic, and learn from in the process. Peace be with you, Jae.
Tori is excellent. I like all of her albums, but I must say that her debut is one of the genius albums of the early 90’s. I just got tickets to see her in May, it will be my third time seeing her. Check out her new album, and listen to the whole of “Little Earthquakes.” 🙂
She is one of the greatest musical artists and she has always been overshadowed in the press and within the music industry by pop stars who only sing variations of the same songs about making love and breaking love. Tori Amos's music covers the entire experience of human life-that may sound like an exaggeration but it isn't.
Whatever you do next I would stay with live stuff -- her capacity to connect to an audience is really something. You could go for a very different mood with 'Precious Things' circa 98 or 99 when she has a good band with her, or a live Letterman performance like 'Father Lucifer' or something later from her Sunny Florida concert ('Cooling' would be a good choice). Really there are loads of good choices and she has really good covers as well like 'Thank You' from Led Zepplin.
This made my heart so happy! If you would please do us the honor and please react to Silent All These Years ruclips.net/video/ohiRxoakhog/видео.html and Me & A Gun ruclips.net/video/wWxZW2zj7PQ/видео.html BIG Giant Hugs!
➡️ PLEASE ⬅️ CHECK OUT THE GROUP: *PORTISHEAD* - Only You - All Mine -.Glory Box 💜💫✌🏼🎵 Tori is a beautiful artist. ✨ (She was in a romantic relationship with Trent Rezner from Nine Inch Nails.)
I love metal.
Tori is completely metal.
It amazes me that so few reaction channels actually cover any of Tori's music. She is one of the most talented artists I have EVER heard, an incredible song writer, very gifted piano player, brilliant lyricist, a total one of a kind.
She’s like an actual artist 🧑🎨
And with a voice like no other.

She is phenomenal in every aspect, songwriting, delivery, and that beautiful voice,it's transcending
You hit on why Tori's fans are her fans: the emotion in her music and vocals. It's very raw and hits something inside that is just indescribable.
This song overwhelmed me. I had tears for I think of the father who is gone. Perfect live. Her performance was touching.
Same with me, came out of nowhere.
Her father is still alive. Her mother passed a couple years ago.
@@staceymccullough3671 I was referring to my dad:(
@@cherylreichardt I am so sorry. My father passed a few years ago and I used this song and "Carry" to play at his visitation.

Maynard from Tool LOVES Tori Amos. You should check out their live performance together of "Mohammad My Friend".
For what its worth, she performed with Trent too

her CD, Little Earthquakes, which this song is from, is her best CD!!

That first album is magical. Silent All These Years and China are other standout songs for me.
I think this is the most "perfect" performance I've ever seen.
Don't forget about "SPARK" by Tori Amos. Daniel, I told you she's dramatic.
She is a survivor of a trauma. 😢
Daniel listen to Professional Widow by Tori, It’s dance tune. Huge in the 90s
How she can simultaneously show such vulnerability to her audience yet have absolute f’ing command of the room is pretty unique
Yes, she flipped it. The last verse is her dad's perspective.
Watch China; Hey Jupiter; Putting the Damage On; that's a start, haha.
Dude, you need to listen to, what critics agree, is her best album -"Under the Pink". It's brilliant!!!
Really there are loads of good choices and she has really good covers as well like 'Thank You' from Led Zepplin.
listen to any song from Little Earthquakes!!!
If you like metaphor, I think you will adore her song Icicle.
Please do more from Little Earthquakes
