Having been somewhat in awe of your wonderful rendering of Maple Leaf Rag, and thinking I could never aspire to play it, this brilliant video brings it to within the, albeit distant, realms of possibility. Thank you Dan!
This is so exciting!! I have just started really playing piano after many years of other instruments. My early memories are of listening to ragtime . I'm so grateful for your clear lessons!! Thank you!!
Thanks for breaking it down, baby steps, to learn the basic ragtime! This is a challenging exercise but finally getting in the groove brought a huge grin on my face. Great workout for the hands. Thank you!
Thank you Dan for the Part 1 of “Ragtime basic pattern and rhythm” video lesson. For whatever reasons I have difficulties to learn playing “syncopation”. I followed your method and engraved the pattern in my brain. I divide 4 crotchets (quarter notes) into 8 quavers (eighth notes) at bass clef and see where each note at treble clef lands at which quaver note. I finally get it. Much appreciated, Dan, as always. Will view the Part 2 soon. 👍👍🙏
Great. Glad it’s sinking in. Part two begins with a quick refresher and slowwwwwwly takes you through the right hand and left hand coordination. It will come as you do it chromatically through the keys in triads. Looking forward to your updates! Best, Dan
Greeting Dan ☀️ thank you for guiding us to become better musicians and expressing our inner music by feeling it. Every task is amazing . Hands on the keys right now . Blessings 🙏

im pretty sure the literal explanation to what you couldnt put into words (the swing part) is that each beat is divided into three parts, on which you play, instead of even division
Hi Dan! Thanks for the video! Can you please give a little more detail about the succession of chords to play for the technical exercise? Is it C, followed by D flat, B flat and E flat?
Is ther anything wrong with playing it (Maple Rag) swing style? I’m finding it much easier to do it. Don’t have to think so much about the rhytms. Thanks.❗️
Nope. You would do better to internalise them mentally than be distracted by reading. I’ve never (or extremely rarely) written anything down that I’ve taught on the channel or on my own journey. You’ll find it helps to be free from papers and trust your mind more 🙋♂️

My thought exactly. Might take a while but I *might just* actually do this some day. Lots to work on meanwhile...

Brilliant! Should encourage others too! 🤩🎶 Part two will be much easier as you master this. Thanks for watching!

Coming over from having learned boogie woogie piano first (kevanaugh and such) I found it difficult to not syncopate ragtime at first!!

No way! In fact, Scott Joplin played it swing!
basically swing is iambic
Do U have the
