The more I watch your videos the faster I want to get out there. You are very informative. Thanks bro.👍🏿
Panama A507ting am going this weekend so am watching. You live here in Panama?
Thanks for sharing! I'm headed to Medellin this summer!
Come on over. I don't see may sisters here.
@Will Buy It because the feminism in America has robbed them of their femininity. They have no virtue.
How did you like it...?
Let's go together kia.we could share a place.
I dont know any Spanish tho.
I like your vids man! Planning a 2 months stay in Colombia with my wife. Your information is very useful and you have such a positive energy! Muchas gracias
Hey Sly! Love the videos. I'll be in Medellin in August, thanks for all your info about the city. Very excited.
Your very articulate funny and speak from the heart awesome job!
You are 100% on the point I am from Cali. You nailed!
i appreciate your videos so much man you keep it real and give us a real feel for what colombia is like,,,, im gonna keep your tips in mind when i get down there one day
Great info as usual, bro. I was just in DR last week and met an American who lives in MDE. We chopped it up for a few hours talking about how much he loved it. I will definitely be there in April.
Good, educated advice. Thank you.
Thank you Sly! I'm an ESL teacher thinking of teaching English in Colombia. I enjoy watching your videos.
Been here a couple days and I already regret not bringing nice clothes lol
You're on point about walking at night, the fast path isn't always the best.
Keep up with the vids, they're very helpful.
Good tips! 👍🏽 I will definitely keep them in mind when I visit next month.
I just came across your videos about Medellin and I find them all very accurate. I was born there and move to the US 20 years ago. When someone asks me about my home Town I have problems trying not to sound to BIOS. Thanks for putting this experience together. I have not watched your videos about Hikes, Birds diversity or street food. My wife is a foodie and she has a blast every time we go to visit. Also something that you need to mention is the different climates you'll find all year round and within an hour drive from Downtown Medellin so either you are looking for some cool or hot climates, you'll be able to do it only for 365 days a year.
Sly thanks for all the great material man! I'm hoping to make it out to Medellin this summer.
Great job, super Video, On my way, alot of great points, keep up the good work, Marco
It is true race does play a role in Medellin on which areas you can go. I just recently got back from Medellin. El Centro was my favorite area I walked around a lot there everyday, caught the train there from El poblado. My next trip I will stay in El Centro. I'm black American and I blended in perfectly everyone thought I was Colombian if I didn't say anything. Never had a problem and I was there 3 weeks. matter fact if you've been to the bad part of downtown in most American cities you won't have too much of a problem with El Centro.
Damn, how about us white and young fellas, we should probably just stick to the more wealthy parts of town right?
@@karl4813 yes
@@karl4813 here's the thing about Medellin. You can be robbed anywhere, anytime. The crooks know that lots of tourists stay in Poblado, so they have been targeting there, and you can see on the news reports of robberies in Poblado, one of the most upscale in Medellin. Try is to not attract criminals by flashing cash, wearing ANY jewelry, or talking on an expensive cell phone. Leave the flashy shit at home, nobody to impress there.
Just because you didn't get robbed on a 3 week trip doesn't make it safe. You didn't come across any real bad guys. You probably used good common sense, so you minimized your chances of getting jacked. Good job. (Not like the 2 idiots who got robbed in front of their hotel as they exited the taxi from airport with $6,000 worth of jewelry on them. They deserved it.)
@@karl4813 you would blend in too. the minute he opens his mouth it's game, esp when they are looking for tricks.
Thanks for the tips bro. very helpful
On point with the safety tips. I also have agree on the race part. When I visit the country with my wife I am treated like a local. Makes it easier when going places to lay low.
Let me give you a complement bro....your content is great. I'm in the US Navy and the way you explain things is how we do also!!!! Keep up the good work brother
You are smart to combine learning Spanish language and Colombian culture at the same time . That was how I did it while a soldier in Panama .Language and Culture are best learned in immersion and through social relationships
You were 100% on point. I spend more time in Cali Colombia but the same is true for all the countries and right here at home in the good old USA. Never carry everything on you and like you said. I do keep my bills separated in different pockets just so I do not have to show lots of cash and become a target.
In Colombia there are ATM's the green one, I can not think of the logo for it. This ATM is good for Debt or CC and check with your bank to find a travel card that you do not have to pay fees on for cash withdraws. Brother you gave some very important info for people to follow.
Be safe Brother.
This was really straightforward and helpful. Applies to a lot of cities.
Another great video. A word of caution about taxis at Medellin airport, If your flight arrives late in the evening in Medellin and the local buses are not running do NOT accept rides from 3rd party taxi services. People will come soliciting taxi rides and are parked in the Airport parking lot away from the taxi area, I would highly advise not using these services. Colombian people are great and the great majority of Colombian people are honest and trustworthy, in any county there are people who want to prey on tourists. In NYC at Kennedy airport American 3rd party taxi drivers try the same scam of overcharging unsuspecting tourists. In my stay in Medellin at no point did I feel threatened or unsafe, I traveled the entire length of Medellin and it was beautiful and the Colombian people were amazing. I am returning to Medellin this summer and am looking forward to it.
Great videos lots of information..... I appreciate you sharing all this.....THANK YOU I WILL BE THERE IN AUGUST
Very true, common sense and being street smart will go a long way with your basic survival. I have been to Columbia 3 times so far, my next trip will be to Medellin or Bogotá. Good video.
Use plastic instead of cash when you can, as far as the phone, I purchased a sim card when I got here, after about 40 days I had no service, what happen is that you need to register your phone or they will disconnected it, it's a new measure to stop people from steeling your phone, if they do they can not use it. In order to register the phone you have to use an ID the serial # of the phone, where you purchased etc. if you don't have the information you can't use it.
@@slyslife i think thats a record. For someone that goes with a phone to without a phone.
Great advice, I'll be in Medellin next week!
although these tips are common sense, it really helps demonstrate how amazing Colombia is and despite that you still need to look out for yourself
Helpful .You are wise and fortunate to discover Medellin and have adventure in your life .Suerte Sly . I
A refreshing video bro, thanks for sharing some clever tips 👌Deffo want to come down here. I been almost living in Thailand (and around Asia) for the last 10 years, so definitely want to try something new now ☺️
Thanks for the information. I’m coming there on the 21st
Good info. I play the same kind of defense... Subscribed!
Thanks for sharing and that's simple common sense advice.
@@slyslife I enjoy your videos and the fact that you speak Spanish is a huge plus in a country with all those sexy Latinos. Those girls over there look way more sexy and exotic than they do over here in the states. Hate to seem insulting but it's the truth.
Real Talk Big Brother Plan. To Visit Colombia This Year Thanks for Tips
Great video Sly..
Thanks for the tips.. I'll be there in 2 weeks!
Very well put.. good job.. kudos
Thanks! Im going there soon!
The way colombians drive is CRAZY.
I almost got killed 4 times in the last few months I began living here in Medellin. They will run you over in a second. No respect for pedestrians. Now I am super careful.
Yep it is true, if u are on a one side road just look the 2 sides before u cross the road there are too much morons , by the way if u have an accident the law protects u at least...
The lack of driving skills is not confined to Medellin or Colombia. If you're in Cuenca, EC, you better have your head on a swivel when you're crossing a street.
People everywhere drive crazy
Love your videos, Sly! Very informative! I'm planning a visit to Medellin, and possible other parts of Colombia in July, and I want to do some photography. Any advice for using a camera in public? Other than using common sense, are there any tips you can offer? Thanks!
Thanks bro I’m headed there soon!! Gems 💎 famz!!
Thank you for the VIDEO very informative Life 🇨🇴.... Keep the VIDEOS COMING RUclips CHAMP....... I'm in Bogotá Colombia right now enjoying myself Champ..... I will use your tips......
Just returned from Bogota on Monday. Love Bogota just not the weather.
I will be in Bogotá Colombia for about 3 weeks... Then I will start traveling throughout whole COUNTRY........ Let's keep in touch..... My whatsapp number is +526646408880.......
I understand Champ....
Great video, thanks so much for sharing all these tips!
I love walking too
I walk solo a lot, but not usually at night. Do you think I'd have to worry a lot about getting around in other cities alone in the daytime😬?
I'm learning Spanish☆
Great video. All these tips are spot on. The watching your unattended drink is important. Also, i know its rare, but if you do get robbed, just quickly hand everything over, cuz they do have guns and anytime i read about an American trying to be captain badass and fighting back.. they always get capped
But its not a big thing. Its rare, but It happens. Just quickly hand your stuff over and walk away and you will be alive and probably forget it ever happened a week later.
Nice! Very helpful.
Hey man! Great video. I'll be there this week. Would love to grab a drink 🍻
Love your vlogs brother allot allot of good info , ill be down there soon . It would be cool to link up and if possible you can show me around some shops , sport complex & local food the be looking super good .
real talk ! let em know . good vid bro
I love your videos. I tell my friends and family to watch your videos. Your adventurous spirit really inspires me and I hope it will inspire my nephew too. You're definitely one youtuber to follow. Are you going to Tanzania or Gabon any time soon? Godspeed!
Another good vlog.👍
Thanks! Good video.
My Peruvian GF taught me that if your carrying a Wallet or must, don’t carry it in your back pocket. Nothing ever happened. It may not be the same in Colombia, but safety tips are safety tips. But the first time I was in Peru and in the good areas of Lima evenly one the first thing she did was recommend to not carry my wallet in back pocket and as well while on any public transportation. If you got a good GF in South America or wherever she should be looking out for you in the local culture. She knows it better than you a tourist.
When I was in Medellín I noticed that most of the men did not carry a wallet at all, so I adapted and did as they did.
Good video bruh, keep it up
Hey man, I love your videos, keep putting out content,
I have a question, how did you managed to stay there for a year? did you had to get like a working Visa?
Hey man, do you do tours in Medellin? Planning on going in january. I got family there because I'm colombian but i've never been to medellin
Sly rocks! How is it that some people didn't like his videos?
THIS IS GREAT !!!!
Great video. Cheers
You are right on that I definitely feel safer over there than in the states 😎
Great video!
Nice video very informative
Wow! Way better vlog than Aceis live. You are lot easier to understand and without the fake drama. It is alot more intelligible. No disgrace to Ace. He is trying to do his job for his subscribers.
Great commentary 👌 👏
Hey man! Great vids brother! Ok so the video you need to do next is a video on banking in Columbia. Like how you would get to Columbia and get started with access to your American bank account, what the paper currency is worth and the conversions, etc.
Sly, yes, please talk about how to get a visa, etc.... Also, do you work aside from making videos? Thanks
hey i find your content to be helpful since im going for the first time in a few days...i have a question i live in the states i have the uber app does it work the same way down there and charge my card the same way?
mEDELLIN is a cool city not really my favorite city yo live but super cool to visit for a week or two. bEEEN Living in Colombia since AUGUST 2019.
I speak some Spanish and yes being darker is a advantage on the security tip in Dr too
that is the case in the US, and probably in Europe too. Unfortunately, it is a privledge that black men have no one wants to admit.
@@slyslife in Argentina too my friend told robbers would afraid of me
Great video. When I was In India the pick pocketer are so good I had to hide the money in my shoes.
Yo thanks for the video bro. I hope one day to make it to Columbia. So depressing in the US.
Hey man just curious what kind of Visa youre getting to stay there so long or are you just crossing a border and coming back in to get a new walk in visa??? Thanks for the great content!
All good info Sly. Avoid yellow taxis after dark if at all possible. Use EZ taxi or have someone call you one. There will be a record made of the call. Ubers, as you said are best (and will turn on the AC if you ask). Moto bandits are no joke. I know 2 who have been robbed.
Your videos are so dope! funny and very informative. thx for sharing
Good video!
Lots of useful information thanks man you have said some important things especially about being black and not saying much so as not to give away your identity
Heyy thanks for the video, it's very helpful. One question tho what about jewelry for women? It's the same like with men?
Greetings from Poland
Just another tip. I bought a discrete Fanny pack on amazon and I wear it underneath my shirt and pants. I kept big bills there. When I needed to get more cash. Went to the restroom or somewhere discreet and pulled out what I needed and quickly refilled my pockets.
Dope video bro
What about using credit card's in cafe's and stores ?
Good job bro,may almighty God bless and protect you throughout your staying there, I love your descriptions but please next time talk little bit about the women, are they friendly or work with the gangs? Thanks
Nice for sharing. What do u do over there?
Thanks bro 🙏
Thailand is safer. Medellin is cheaper
I've been to both places this year. Loved both places
Thailand is a country that mostly depends on the millions of tourist that arrive yearly. The country is basically one big tourist trap. Which is good and bad. Medellin doesn't have the global tourism component yet. Yes there are cheap hotels and apartments in Thailand and yes you can buy clothing (replicas) very cheap. But in terms of minimum wage and service based spending. Colombia is 2 to 3 times less. Cloudninevodka@gmail.com
@@California_reports Thanks for your thoughts, I went to Thailand last summer and want to head to Colombia this summer for 21 days. I don't have a lot of money bc I'm saving up for something. Thanks for saying its cheaper. How is the food compared to Thailand?
Thailand is amazing, been robbed in columbia
@@sgill4833 thailand is amaizng
@@California_reports thanks for sharing
Tokyo chill. I kinda got the vibe in Medellín like when out drinking you got to watch whats going on around you. Not sure how safe it is drinking a lot and staying out late. Gotta move quick when its time to go. Think I hadnt noticed that before in Latin America as much or I just accepted it. Think a lot of people stay in at night? Could be Ive been in Japan too long but thats how I felt. A guy that my friend befriended sort of latched on to me as I left to go home when I was drunk. He said lets go to the atm. Kind of set off an alarm bell in my mind. I got out of there. Didnt seem like a good thing to be doing. Maybe he had no bad intentions but I dont go to the atm with anyone. I only had minimal cash on me and no cards anyways.
what's it like for whitey in colombia? my spanish is like highschool level 1
What about sports jackets? Suits etc? I wouldn't wear a full suit but a Sports Jacket, I would want to bring. Would that be cool?
Muchas gracias amigo!!
right, also don't take expensive purses to bars or discos or like leaving them at the back of the chair
What do you think about wearing an Apple Watch around in the streets? Or any kind of step counter watch. Bad idea?
Good info bruh
Thanks! I’m moving. What about purchasing a home? Can I get one for under $100,000?
Let me scoot over...Epic line!
is it too dangerous walkin in el centro?? i have seen very good looking streets
Thanks for another helpful video Sly. Do people use personal checks in Latin America? I personally only use cash for most of my purchases because it helps to keep me on a budget and I hate paying interest.
Personal checks are definitely not common here. Just keep a small amount of cash on you, as Sly said, and maybe a credit card.
Thanks Luis and Sly for answering my question.
I coming over in December from the UK. See you there dude.
@@slyslifehave you now left Colombia bruv
I'm a Caribbean brother from London, UK. Medellin looks amazing.
SLY did you use to go to Paul Custom Cuts in Seattle Wa....you look familar.
What is the name of airport that is on top of the hill
Does the atm charge u a lot there
Can you do a video on safety tips when traveling in Cali Columbia? If so thanks.
First tip is to never call it “Columbia” again
Slys Life How Long did u study Spanish, to be on the level that you are today ?
Yes, I been traveling for years, DR, PR and All the Centro American Countries - I fit in as well - I'm lighter than you are, but Brown has is advantages. :-) I always get mistaken for a Local - I speak great Spanish to though, I have studied Spanish over 25 years. Except I will not have their accent. - they'd think I'm Colombian that grew up in America, coming home to visit.
Did you speak spanish before you moved there? How did you learn
